SANTO DOMINGO.- The United States Embassy donated 1.4 million pesos for the restoration of the Santo Domingo Cathedral’s altar, as part of a fund for cultural preservation.

Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez thanked the U.S. for the donation obtained through ambassador Robert Fannin, who said the temple’s colonial architecture impressed him when he arrived in the country.

With the money, the Archdiocese will restore the "altarpiece’s Holy Relic," located in a secondary altar, that contains a pieces and a statue considered scared. Its baroque style combines architecture, sculpture, with techniques and polychromic gold inlays, that reveal deterioration.
