Christians in Florida are protesting a billboard put up by the Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists group.

The Fort Lauderdale billboard reads, "Being a good person doesn't require God," and, "Don't believe in God? You're not alone."

Several residents want the billboard taken down because they say it doesn't fit with the beliefs of most people in the community.

"Every day it's something going on. Kids out here are killing each other. Kids out here are using drugs Who else are they going to believe in?" community activist Essie Reed charged.

Atheist Ken Loukinen believes the billboard does no harm.

"We didn't want to incense anybody or put a derogatory statement in there," he said. "[The first statement] is to the public to let them know that atheists can be good, moral people and the second part of the message is to other free-thinkers in Broward County or in the area that may see this, that there is an organization that supports them."

The billboard is expected to be up for the next month.
