Three Killed in Crash While Child Was Driving

Last Update: 3:03 pm

The California Highway Patrol says an 11-year-old boy is responsible for causing a deadly crash that killed three people and seriously injured another.

Investigators say the child was driving a 1993 Honda near Road 152 and Avenue 168 in Woodville, near Porterville.

The boy failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a truck traveling south on road 152.

11-year-old Jose Silva was killed, along with his 6-year old sister, Elizabeth and their mother, 30-year old Maria Covarrubias. All three were from Woodville.

34-year-old Froylon Gonzalez was also riding in the car and sustained major injuries and was airlifted Community Regional Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup, 44-year-old Charles Seguin of Porterville only received minor injuries and was treated and released.

The CHP is not sure why the 11-year-old was behind the wheel. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

P.S. This unfortunate loss brings to mind the Bible verse:
As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Isaiah 3:12
