Ho-hum Obama is at Georgetown Catholic U again today

It seems President Obama has a continuous green light to use Georgetown University (a Jesuit university) for his political purposes. The last time he appeared there in 2009, there was controversy as the University agreed to a White House request to cover up an ancient symbol of Jesus’ name. .

After the infamous 2009 granting of an honorary doctorate to Obama that took place at Notre Dame U despite the objections of more than 80 U.S. bishops, today’s appearance at Georgetown hardly merited a headline.

Perhaps Georgetown is just so open-minded and generous that any and all comers may make use of their elaborate facilities. Perhaps that explains why:

  • - In 2006 the University honored the originator of the “personally opposed but” stance on abortion – Fr. Robert Drinan

  • - Pro-abortion Catholic Vice President Joe Biden was honored at Georgetown in 2009. -

  • - Earlier this year they gave a platform to the nation’s leading gay activist group Human Rights Campaign

. Oh, but wait, at times they are not so permissive. Remember in 2006 it was Georgetown again who booted various Christian groups off campus. But not all Christian groups were affected by the ban, only . conservative ones. .

And what happens when some unforeseeable error occurs and a conservative takes the stage at Georgetown? Why one of the professors of theology will march off stage in a huff, and 70 faculty members will sign a letter of protest against the speech. And that’s just what happened to Vatican Cardinal Francis Arinze when he spoke at Georgetown in 2003. .
