Israel and the Forbidden Prophecy

Cosmic Collision Course

Israel and the Forbidden Prophecy

Ancient Rabbis and Daniel's Seventy Weeks
In the 12th Century A.D., Rabbi Moses Ben Maimon (Maimonides), one of the most respected rabbis in history, and a man who rejected the messianic claims of Jesus of Nazareth, said regarding Daniel's seventy weeks prophecy:
"Daniel has elucidated to us the knowledge of the end times. However, since they are secret, the wise (rabbis) have barred the calculation of the days of Messiah's coming so that the untutored populace will not be led astray when they see that the End Times have already come but there is no sign of the Messiah" (Emphasis added). Igeret Teiman, Chapter 3 p.24.
Finally, Rabbi Moses Abraham Levi said regarding the time of Messiah's coming:
"I have examined and searched all the Holy Scriptures and have not found the time for the coming of Messiah clearly fixed, except in the words of Gabriel to the prophet Daniel, which are written in the 9th chapter of the prophecy of Daniel"
The Messiah of the Targums, Talmuds and Rabbinical Writers, 1971.

THE SEVENTY WEEKS PROPHECY OF DANIEL 9:24-27

Dan 9:24
"SEVENTY WEEKS ARE DETERMINED UPON YOUR PEOPLE" King James Bible.
"Seventy weeks of years are fixed for your people..." Moffat Bible Translation.
"Seven times seventy years..." Good News Bible.
"Seventy weeks of years are decreed concerning your people..." Revised Standard Version.

A PERIOD OF 490 YEARS IS HERE APPORTIONED TO THE JEWISH PEOPLE.

A Day in Symbolic Prophecy Represents a Year: Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6 The Day-for-a-Year principle in symbolic prophecy has been understood by Bible scholars from the earliest centuries, and is testified to by the above translations.
It is confirmed to be accurate by the dramatic fulfilment of the 70-week prophecy.

"To Finish Transgression, to Make an End of Sins, to Make Reconciliation for Iniquity" The Messiah would bring an end to the reign of sin (Rom 8:3). Here is predicted that sometime before the end of the seventy weeks, a full atonement, a putting away of sin, would be made. This was accomplished by Christ.

Hebrews 9:26
Christ "put away" sin, or put an end to sin's power, by his sacrifice.
Romans 5. 10,11
Reconciled to God by the sacrifice of Jesus the Messiah.
(See also 2 Cor 5:18, Heb 2:17)

"Bring in Everlasting Righteousness''
Righteousness means being in right relationship with the true God. The Hebrew writers of the New Testament declared that this was only achieved by faith in Jesus Christ the Messiah. (See Rom 3:22, Phil 3:9, etc..)

"To Seal Up the Vision and Prophecy" "To ratify the prophetic vision" Moffat.
The accuracy of the prophecy would be confirmed at the end of the time period when all the details of the vision were to be fulfilled.

"To anoint the Most Holy"
The words used here describe the Hebrew sanctuary. Exodus 30:22-30 describe the work of anointing, or consecrating the sanctuary before its use. In Daniel, the anointing of the sanctuary does not refer to the Hebrew sanctuary, which was an "example and shadow of heavenly things" (Heb 8:5), a "figure for the time then present" (Heb 9:9), and was simply the "patterns of things in the heavens" (Heb 9-23). This anointing of a sanctuary refers to the great original, the heavenly sanctuary of which the earthly was just a type (Heb 8:2).

Christ entered the heavenly sanctuary at his ascension (Heb 8:2), and became our High Priest who intercedes in our behalf (Heb 4: 14- 16). The anointing of the Most Holy therefore refers to the beginning of Christ’s priestly intercession.

Dan 9:25
THE STARTING DATE.
From the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah would be a period of three weeks of years plus sixty two weeks of years. A total of 483 years until the Messiah.

Ezra 7:7-28
The decree is recorded in full in verses 12-26. "The seventh year of Artaxerxes the king."

Any history book records that this Persian king (Artaxerxes Longimanus) began his reign in 464 BC. The seventh year is therefore 457 BC. From 457 BC we count 483 years until the Messiah appears – the year 27 AD. In 27 AD the Messiah is to appear in history.

Luke 11. 21-22
Jesus Christ was baptised in the river Jordan by John the Baptist. He was at this time "anointed" as the Messiah, and began his 3 1/2 year ministry. The year was AD 27. The 15th year of Tiberius was AD 27 according to Jewish reckoning.

Luke 4:16-18; Acts 10:37,38
Christ was "anointed" by the Holy Spirit at his baptism.

Mark 1: 15
After Christ was baptised he proclaimed "The time is fulfilled.'' Daniel’s prophecy predicting the year of the Messiah had been fulfilled.

Dan 9:26
Messiah was to be cut off during the last week of years. Between 27 AD and 34 AD.

Dan 9:2
In the midst of the week, or in 31 AD, the Messiah would die, bringing to end the ceremonial sacrifices that pointed to him as the true Lamb of God (John 1:29).

Matthew 27-50,51
When Christ died on the cross the veil in the temple was ripped in two revealing that the Jewish sacrificial system was now obsolete. Christ the true Sacrifice had died bringing an end to the significance of the ceremonial system.

Romans 5:6; John 7:28-30; 13:1
CHRIST DIED EXACTLY ON TIME.

Acts 7:51 ; 8:4
At the end of the 490 years, in 34 AD the gospel was taken to the Gentiles. Paul became the Apostle to the Gentile (non-Jewish) world. The Jews probationary period of 490 years was over. No longer were they God's chosen nation.

Galatians 3:29; Romans 2:28,29
Christians are today "spiritual" Jews, chosen by God to take the gospel to the world. The purpose of God for the Jewish nation came to an end in AD 34.
