Sex, lies and spies: Vatileaks plot thickens

AFP

Angus MacKinnon 4 hours ago

Vatican City (AFP) - The Vatican's controversial trial of journalists and whistleblowers was put on hold Monday as new claims about sex, lies and spies gave the scandal an intriguing twist.

The trial, in which three Vatican insiders and two Italian reporters face potential prison terms of up to eight years, was adjourned until next week after one of the accused asked for more time to prepare her defence.

Francesca Chaouqui, a PR expert accused of leaking classified documents to journalists, asked for five days to study the prosecution case against her and possibly introduce new evidence after replacing her court-appointed lawyer with her own defence counsel.

The prosecution did not object and the presiding judge said proceedings would resume on December 7, dashing the hopes of Vatican officials that the high-profile case might be wrapped up before the official start of a Catholic Jubilee year the following day.

Pope Francis, who has been away on a visit to Africa, told journalists on his return flight to the Vatican on Monday that the leaks scandal "has not kept me awake at night".

"This isn't the Lucrezia Borgia era," he quipped in a reference to the daughter of Pope Alexander VI in the 15th century, who was accused of incest, poisoning and murder.

It emerged Monday that Chaouqui's co-accused, Spanish Monsignor Lucio Vallejo Balda, 54, wrote a statement six days after his arrest in which he admitted to having been sorely tempted to have an affair with Chaouqui, 33, and that he believed she was working for Italy's secret services.

According to Italian daily La Repubblica, the statement was made on November 8 to a lawyer no longer working for Vallejo Balda.

Several Italian media have reported that the priest's new counsel plans to ask the court for his client to undergo psychiatric evaluation -- implying he may seek to put forward mental issues as a mitigating factor in his defence.

- 'No proof against me' -

There was no time for that on Monday as a result of Chaouqui's delay request, which she said was necessary because she still had no idea of what she was supposed to have done wrong.

"I don't understand anything," she told reporters after the brief hearing. "There is no proof against me. I need this extra time to understand why I am here."

The Vatican has been widely criticised for pursuing the prosecution of two investigative journalists, Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi, over leaks they used as the basis for books depicting irregularities and extravagance in the Holy See's spending.

Chaouqui had access to potentially embarrassing material after being asked to join a commission on economic reform set up by Pope Francis shortly after his election in 2013.

The appointment raised eyebrows at the time after it was revealed Chaouqui had published critical tweets about the Vatican and posted racy pictures of herself on social media.

Vallejo Balda was secretary to the commission. His assistant Nicola Maio is the fifth person charged under legislation the Vatican introduced in reaction to the first Vatileaks scandal.

That erupted in 2012 and involved former pope Benedict XVI's butler revealing the extraordinary scale of bitter infighting in the upper echelons of the Church's bureaucracy, the curia.

- 'I couldn't succumb' -

All five accused in Vatileaks II have been charged with obtaining and disclosing confidential papers "concerning the fundamental interests of the Vatican State".

Vallejo Balda, who has been in detention since his November 2 arrest, Chaouqui and Maio are additionally charged with organised criminal association.

In the statement published by La Repubblica, the priest suggests his relationship with Chaouqui was of a romantic, flirtatious nature and came close to being consummated.

"I could not succumb, in my mind's eye I always had the pope talking about the sanctity of married women and marriage," the priest reportedly wrote.

He goes to claim that Chaouqui had assured him her marriage was a cover for her real role as a spy.

"She sent me photos of (him) with another woman whom she said was his real wife," the statement reads.

Chaouqui said in a post on her Facebook page last week that she is pregnant and very happy with her partner.

Pope Francis Says World Nearing Climate Change ‘Suicide’

Nolan Feeney @NolanFeeney

3:32 PM ET

Andrew Medichini—AP Pope Francis talks to journalists during a press conference he held aboard the flight on the way back to Italy, Monday, Nov. 30, 2015.

Its "now or never," the Pontiff says

Pope Francis said the United Nations’ conference on climate change that began in Paris on Monday may be one of the last opportunities for countries to take steps toward avoiding an environmental catastrophe.

“I am not sure, but I can say to you ‘now or never’,” he said when asked if he thought the Paris summit would be a turning point aboard the papal plane on Monday, Reuters reports. “Every year the problems are getting worse. We are at the limits. If I may use a strong word I would say that we are at the limits of suicide.”

Pope Francis, who pushed for Catholics to pay attention to climate change last year, pointed to rising sea levels and Greenland’s melting glaciers as evidence of a need for nations to act during a conference with reporters on a flight back to Rome after his six-day visit to Africa.

“I am sure that the (Paris delegates) have goodwill to do something. I hope it turns out this way and I am praying that it will,” Francis said.

Live Updates: At United Nations COP21 Climate Change Summit In Paris, China Urges Europe, US To Lead In Fight Against Global Warming

UPDATE: 11:25 a.m. EST --U.S. President Barack Obama urged other world leaders to move forward on policies to slow the pace of climate change during a global conference in Paris Monday. "What greater rejection of those who would tear down our world than marshaling our best efforts to save it," Obama said in his speech, in a reference to Nov. 13 terror attacks across Paris carried out by Islamic State group supporters.

Many world leaders said the stakes were high. "A political moment like this may not come again," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told leaders gathered for the conference. "We have never faced such a test. But neither have we encountered such great opportunity."

UPDATE: 8:25 a.m. EST -- French President François Hollande Monday at the opening day of the United Nations climate change summit in Paris linked the fight against terrorism to climate change initiatives. His comments came as France continued to deal with the aftermath of a series of terror attacks Nov. 13 that rocked the capital, killing 130 and wounding hundreds more.

"I can't separate the fight with terrorism from the fight against global warming," said Hollande, as reported by Reuters. "These are two big global challenges we have to face up to, because we have to leave our children more than a world freed of terror, we also owe them a planet protected from catastrophes."

Original Story:

China urged the United States and Europe Sunday to take the lead when it comes to international climate initiatives, ahead of a United Nations climate change summit that began Monday in Paris. As a rapidly developing country, China is the world’s leader in production of carbon emissions, one of the greenhouse gases that contributes to global warming.

“[We] hope the outcome of the summit will underscore the principle of common and differentiated responsibilities,” Chinese President Xi Jinping told French President Francois Hollande Sunday, the South China Morning Post reported, citing a state news agency. He encouraged richer, developed countries to make higher sacrifices than developing countries when it came to limiting emissions.

The United Nations COP21 summit on climate change is expected to yield a legally-binding agreement concerning initiatives to stem the problems of climate change by Dec. 11. The conference was being held in Paris despite security concerns following a Nov. 13 terror attack that killed 130 people and wounded several hundred more.

Chinese industries developed at a breakneck speed in the past two decades, and much of the country's factories and machinery have been powered by coal, one of the dirtiest forms of energy, as it produces high amounts of carbon dioxide. Problems of pollution in China have become so great that a northern region of China including Beijing was covered in a cloud of smog larger than the area of Spain for three days.

As a result of these pollution problems, China finds itself at a unique crossroads as one of the world’s worst offenders when it comes to pollution as well as one of pollution's greatest victims.

China was not the only developing country to suggest that richer nations should carry a heavier burden when it comes to climate change initiatives. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said developed nations that built their wealth on cheap and dirty fuel should make the largest sacrifices concerning emission caps. “The principle of common but differentiated responsibilities should be the bedrock of our collective enterprise,” Modi wrote in an op-ed for the Financial Times Monday.

Columbus, Catholic Church & Courts: The Ongoing Destruction of Native Americans

Enter The Buzzsaw

Published on Nov 27, 2015

How Native Americans have been destroyed by Columbus, Catholic Church doctrine, and the courts of the United States is explained by Pagans in the Promised Land author, Steven Newcomb. We look at the religious framework for the European land grab and blood bath that devastated native peoples, and the court justification based on clear European and religious supremacy. How American Indians lost their land, and who really benefits from modern Indian Casinos and gaming, as well as how Genesis 1:28 has been used as a justification of mass extermination is revealed in this Buzzsaw interview, hosted by Sean Stone.

GUEST BIO:
Steven Newcomb’s book Pagans in the Promised Land: Decoding the Doctrine of Christian Discovery” was published by Fulcrum in 2008. Newcomb’s scholarship challenges the Vatican pattern of domination and dehumanization found in papal documents from the fifteenth century that has and continues to deeply influence U.S. federal Indian law and policy. Filmmaker Sheldon Wolfchild (Dakota) and Mr. Newcomb (Shawnee, Lenape) have completed a compelling documentary entitled “The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code,” based on Newcomb’s research and scholarship. The movie also expresses the Wisdom Teachings of Original Nations as expressed by traditional Elders such as Birgil Kills Straight (Oglala Lakota).

..."Flee into the mountains"

And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25 Behold, I have told you before.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Obama on Colorado Shooting: 'Enough Is Enough'

Obama on Colorado Shooting: 'Enough Is Enough'

Last Updated: November 28, 2015

VOA News

Colorado Springs Police spokesperson Lt. Catherine Buckley addresses the media Friday during an active shooter situation near a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, Colo., Nov. 27, 2015.

President Barack Obama spoke out Saturday against the shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado, saying "enough is enough" to this attack and other similar gun violence.

"This is not normal. We can’t let it become normal," said Obama in a statement released by the White House.

"If we truly care about this -- if we’re going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience -- then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough," the president said.

Friday attack

Around noon (local time) Friday, a gunman burst into the Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs and opened fire, launching into an hourslong gunbattle and standoff with police.

This booking photo released by the Colorado Springs Police Department shows Robert L. Dear, 57, the suspect in the Nov. 27, 2015, shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

By late afternoon Friday, a suspect, identified as Robert Lewis Dear, 57, of North Carolina, was in custody. Three people, including one police officer, were killed and nine others, including five officers, were wounded, authorities said.

The slain police officer was identified as 44-year-old Garrett Swasey, a member of the University of Colorado Springs campus police department, which said he responded to the shooting in support of the city police.

The names of the civilians had not been released early Saturday.

No other details about the suspect were immediately available, including whether he had any connection to Planned Parenthood.

Dear is being held in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, where jail records indicate he is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

"We don't have any information on this individual's mentality, or his ideas or ideology," Colorado Springs police Lt. Catherine Buckley told reporters.

Motives unknown

Buckley said initial reports described the shooter's weapon as "a long gun," such as a rifle. Buckley said the suspect also carried "items" into the clinic, although authorities didn't know whether they were explosive devices.

Obama added, "We don’t yet know what this particular gunman’s so-called motive was for shooting 12 people, or for terrorizing an entire community, when he opened fire with an assault weapon and took hostages at a Planned Parenthood center in Colorado.

"What we do know is that he killed a cop in the line of duty, along with two of the citizens that police officer was trying to protect. We know that law enforcement saved lives, as so many of them do every day, all across America. And we know that more Americans and their families had fear forced upon them," he added.

Planned Parenthood said Saturday all of its staff at the clinic was safe. The organization said it did not know the circumstances or motives behind the attack or whether the organization was the target.

During the standoff, terrified patients and staff hid wherever they could find cover and inside locked rooms.

Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said the police showed "untold valor."

Planned Parenthood clinic shooting survivor Ozy Licano describes his encounter with the shooter Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, in Colorado Springs Colo.

Agents of the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives were working with Colorado Springs police.

Two vigils were planned in Colorado Springs Saturday for the shooting victims.

Controvery

Planned Parenthood is controversial because some of its branches perform abortions, although the bulk of its work involves providing family planning services, screenings for HIV and sexually transmitted diseases, and general health consultations.

"We share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country. We will never back away from providing care in a safe, supportive environment that millions of people rely on and trust," wrote Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.

In August, about 300 Colorado Springs residents opposed to abortion protested at the Centennial Boulevard clinic as part of a nationwide demonstration over a video that purportedly showed organization employees discussing the sale of fetal tissue. The video has since been discredited.

Some abortion opponents have resorted to violence against U.S. clinics and medical practitioners that provide abortion services; several have been hit by arsonists and bombers. At least two doctors have been murdered by anti-abortion activists, the most recent in 2009, when a doctor in Kansas was slain because he performed abortions.

White House correspondent Aru Pande contributed to this report.

Daniel's 70 Weeks Prophecy and the Jesuit Lie of Futurism (Full)

Keith Kampschaefer

Published on Aug 20, 2015

"DID GOD REALLY SAY THAT?" - Satan • The AGENTS of Satan have pulled off the greatest lie since the Garden of Eden. (Read more)

With the development of the printing press, the Word of God was now available to the commoner. Europe began to see not only the true doctrine of grace hidden from the world by the anti-Christ system, but also identified the Papacy as that very anti-Christ spoke of by Daniel's 'little horn,' Paul's 'lawless one,' and John's 'woman who rides the beast.'

The Jesuits were created to make war with the saints of the Reformation and began infiltrating and corrupting the interpretation of the Scriptures as they applied to the Papacy/RCC system.

For the courageous truth-seeker, the remnant, the wise virgin, know therefore and understand that the modern Evangelical church has followed the Jesuits and teaches that Daniel 9:27 is about the anti-Christ confirming a covenant with the modern Israeli Jews in a "7 year tribulation" WHEN IN FACT it is about Christ CONFIRMING THE COVENANT OF MERCY to all who believe in HIM.

They (the harlot daughters of Roman Catholicism) teach that the 70th week of Daniel is separated from the other 69 weeks which is where the "end-time, 7 year tribulation" comes from.

This is the full video of this great end-time deception.

Praise and glory to Jesus our Savior!

Obama Compares Syrian Refugees to Mayflower Pilgrims

By JOHN PARKINSON
BENJAMIN SIEGEL

Nov 26, 2015, 11:44 AM ET

President Obama used his weekly address to appeal to families counting their blessings on Thanksgiving, reminding Americans that the holiday isn’t only about turkey but a tribute to the deep immigration history that led to the nation’s founding.

“In 1620, a small band of pilgrims came to this continent, refugees who had fled persecution and violence in their native land,” Obama says. “Nearly 400 years later, we remember their part in the American story – and we honor the men and women who helped them in their time of need.”

The Obama administration said Wednesday that states can't legally block the resettlement of refugees, according to a letter from the HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement sent to state officials.

In the letter, the agency said states are bound by the Refugee Act of 1980 to provide "assistance and services" to refugees "without regard to race, religion, nationality, sex or political opinion," and cannot cut off ORR-funded services to Syrian refugees.

Additionally, the letter says refugees are protected by Title VI of the Civil RightsAct of 1964, which "prohibits discrimination on the bases of race and national origin" in all programs that receive federal financial assistance.

More than 30 state governors have indicated they will attempt to block any future refugees from settling in their states.

Obama said he’s been “touched by the generosity of the Americans” who have written letters and emails in recent weeks offering to open their homes to refugees fleeing the Islamic State, ISIL.

“Nearly four centuries after theMayflower set sail, the world is still full of pilgrims – men and women who want nothing more than the chance for a safer, better future for themselves and their families,” the president says. “What makes America America is that we offer that chance. We turn Lady Liberty’s light to the world, and widen our circle of concern to say that all God’s children are worthy of our compassion and care. That’s part of what makes this the greatest country on Earth.”

The House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill on Nov. 19 that would require the FBI director to certify a background investigation for each potential refugee from Syria or Iraq, and administration officials including the DHS secretary must attest that each potential refugee is not a security threat to the U.S. The White House and Senate Democrats oppose the measure, which passed through the lower chamber with a veto-proof majority.

House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Virginia, charged that the majority of U.S. governors have taken positions that reflect the views of their constituents.

"It’s hypocritical for Obama Administration officials to threaten enforcement action against these states when they refuse to enforce the vast majority of our immigration laws, such as cracking down on sanctuary cities that openly defy federal law and endanger the American people," he wrote. “The Administration’s latest threat shows why we need the American SAFE Act so that the American people have confidence in their government’s ability to fully screen refugees seeking to come here.”

After serving turkey to homeless veterans and pardoning a turkey on Wednesday, President Obama privately enjoys Thanksgiving at the White House.

Two senior Seventh-day Adventist leaders joined participants of a Russian government-organized conference on religious freedom in pledging to fight against a growing “perversion of religion” worldwide by those who use the language of faith to justify violence and terrorism.

Delegates attending the Third International Forum on Religion and Peace at Moscow’s President Hotel.

The Third International Forum on Religion and Peace, a rare gathering of leaders from across Russia’s religious and political spectrum, met Oct. 29 in the Great Hall of Moscow’s President Hotel and included scholars, public officials, and religious leaders representing the Orthodox, Protestant, Jewish, Catholic, and Islamic communities.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church was represented by Ganoune Diop, director of the public affairs and religious liberty department for the world church, and Oleg Goncharov, director of the public affairs and religious liberty department in the church’s Euro-Asia Division.

In his address to the assembly, Diop focused on the foundational place of religious freedom within the pantheon of human rights. He emphasized that it is a God-given right not subject to political agendas, and he urged all those present to work together to preserve and extend this “first freedom.”

On the day before the forum, Diop and Goncharov visited the State Duma, Russia’s national parliament, to meet various public officials responsible for church-state relations in the country. They also met with Alexander Kudryavtsev, who heads one of Russia’s most active public organizations focused on religious liberty, the Russian Association for the Protection of Religious Freedoms.

Diop, left, and Goncharov, second left, listening to a delegate speak at the forum.

At the conclusion of the forum, participants adopted a resolution expressing deep concern about rising religious extremism. They also urged greater action on the part of the international community in stemming the continued destruction of Christian communities in the Middle East and Africa, and they expressed solidarity with all those suffering persecution for their faith.

The event was jointly organized by Russia’s Presidential Council for Cooperation with Religious Organizations, and Moscow’s Department of National Policy, Inter-Regional Relations, and Tourism. It was supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill, along with other religious and public leaders.

Pastor Franklin Graham, son of well-known evangelist Billy Graham, attended the forum, along with Metropolitan Hilarion, director of the department for external church relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, and Allahshukur Pashazade, chair of the Religious Council of the Caucasus.

Pope in Africa says dialogue vital to avert violence in God's name

Thu Nov 26, 2015 | 5:37 AM EST

Pope Francis attends a meeting with inter-religi...

By Philip Pullella and George Obulutsa

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Pope Francis said on Thursday in Kenya, a country that has seen a spate of attacks by Islamist militants, that dialogue between religions in Africa was essential to teach young people that violence in God's name was unjustified.

Bridging divisions between Muslims and Christians is a main theme of his first tour of the continent that also takes him to Uganda, which like Kenya has seen a number of Islamist attacks, and the Central African Republic, riven by sectarian conflict.

Starting his first full day in the Kenyan capital, Francis met Muslim and other religious leaders before saying an open-air Mass for tens of thousands of rain-drenched people who sang, danced and ululated as he arrived in an open popemobile.

"All too often, young people are being radicalized in the name of religion to sow discord and fear, and to tear at the very fabric of our societies," he told about 25 religious leaders.

Inter-religious dialogue "is not a luxury. It is not something extra or optional, but essential," he told them, stressing that God's name "must never be used to justify hatred and violence."

He referred to Somalia's al Shabaab Islamists' 2013 attack on Nairobi's Westgate shopping mall and this year's assault on Garissa university. Hundreds of people have been killed in the past two years or so, with Christians sometimes singled out by gunmen.

The chairman of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims, Abdulghafur El-Busaidy, called for cooperation and tolerance. "As people of one God and of this world, we must stand up and in unison," he told the pope.

CONTRASTS

Francis's African tour is also addressing the continent's fast-growing Catholic population, which is expected to reach half a billion by 2050.

A third of Kenya's 45 million people are Catholics.
Tens of thousands of them gathered in pouring rain from before dawn to attend the pope's open-air Mass in central Nairobi.

Representatives of Kenya's tribes ascended the papal altar platform to read prayers, their native dress contrasting with that of bishops in Western liturgical vestments just feet away.

In his homily at the Mass, Francis urged the faithful "to resist practices which foster arrogance in men," speaking in a nation rattled by a series of corruption scandals.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, a Catholic who attended the Mass, reshuffled his cabinet this week after several ministers were embroiled in graft allegations.

When not in his popemobile, the pope, who has shunned many of the perks at the Vatican, was driven in a Honda car, starkly different to the Mercedes and other luxury vehicles used by top officials in Kenya where many people live in city slums or villages without electricity.

Giving his address at Mass in a sodden sports field at Nairobi University, the pope urged youths on a continent with a large young population to resist the "new deserts created by a culture of materialism and indifference" and build a more just society.

Are we all Desi now?

Today, I turned on the radio to listen to the latest commentary on current events.  I tuned to the local NPR (National Public Radio) station, since I figure there is a better chance there to listen to intelligent discussion, not Muzak or political gossip...
I heard the beginning of a program called Here and Now from WBUR; (WBUR-FM (90.9 FM) is a public radio station located in Boston, Massachusetts, owned by Boston University. );  As I heard the introduction of the program, I noticed that the names of the hosts are both Desi, Indira Lakshmanan and Megna Chakrabarti.
Wow, I wondered;  how do you get two Desis to host a program on Public Radio?  Did they score higher than everyone else on the job interview?
I understand that they might be replacement hosts for the regulars who might be on an early Thanksgiving vacation;  But, how do you justify two Desis on a radio program in America?  Is everyone out to lunch mentally?
Then, to add insult to injury, the 1:00 PM program was over, NPR News with Lackshmi Singh came on, yet, another Desi.

Don't get me wrong I love and respect all people.  In fact I have had great friends who are Desi.  But, this sudden burst of over-representation of people of  Indo-Pak Descent is ridiculous. If there were 30 million of them, perhaps then it would be understandable? But, with their current numbers, it's still not logical.

Now, that's what I call upward mobility. They must have good connections or know some people in high places?

Arsenio.

Desi [d̪eːsi] is a loose term for the people, cultures, and products of the Indian subcontinent or South Asia and their diaspora, derived from the Ancien tSanskrit देश (deśá or deshi), meaning country.[1] "Desi" countries includeBangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.[2]
Two more Desis for the road:

The Central Intelligence Agency has come under scrutiny multiple times in the past two decades, over the use of enhanced interrogation techniques and drones against people suspected of terrorism.

As a new Showtime documentary points out, those who have led the agency have struggled with the ethics of those tactics.

“The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs” features the 12 living CIA directors talking about the decisions they’ve had to make.

Chris Whipple, writer and co-executive producer of “The Spymasters,” speaks withHere & Now’s Indira Lakshmanan about the film, which premieres this coming Saturday.

US Issues Travel Warning in Wake of Terror Attacks

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON — Nov 24, 2015, 2:30 AM ET

The Associated Press

Americans should be alert to the possible travel risks, especially during the holidays, following increased terrorist threats around the world, the State Department warned on Monday.

A travel alert, which is to be in effect until Feb. 24, said current information suggests that militants with the Islamic State, al-Qaida, Boko Haram and other terrorist groups continue to plan attacks in multiple regions. U.S. authorities said the likelihood of terror attacks will continue as members of IS return fromSyria and Iraq, and other individuals not affiliated with terror groups engage in violence on their own.

Extremists have targeted sporting events, theaters, open markets and aviation targets. In the past year, there have been multiple attacks in France, Nigeria, Denmark, Lebanon, Turkey and Mali. IS has claimed responsibility for the Oct. 31 bombing of a Russian airliner in Egypt, killing 224 people.

"U.S. citizens should exercise vigilance when in public places or using transportation," the alert said. "Be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid large crowds or crowded places. Exercise particular caution during the holiday season and at holiday festivals or events."

The State Department said the U.S. is exchanging information with allies about threats of international terrorism.

The travel alert was issued the same day that Belgium's prime minister announced that Brussels would remain at the highest alert level for at least another week. The increased security measures following the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people have virtually shut down the Belgian capital.

ISTANBUL — Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian border after it violated Turkish airspace on Tuesday, officials said.

Turkey's presidential office confirmed the incident to NBC News.

Citing the Kremlin's Defense Ministry, Russian state-run RIA Novosti news agency also reported that a Su-24 had been downed in Turkey near the border with Syria, but said it had been shot down by ground fire. The plane was flying above Syrian territory and not Turkey, according to that report.

Russia's Defense Ministry was not immediately available for comment.

Footage from Turkish Haberturk TV showed a warplane going down in flames in a woodland area, a long plume of smoke trailing behind it.

Paris Concert Crowd Was Singing 'Kiss The Devil' The Moment Terror Attacks Began

As those people bled and died on the dance floor of the Death Metal concert, they went from singing about the Devil to meeting the Devil face to face.

by Geoffrey Grider

November 16, 2015

MERE MOMENTS AWAY FROM SLAUGHTER, PARIS FANS AT EAGLES OF DEATH METAL CONCERT SANG SONG GLORIFYING THE DEVIL

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

With their hands raised high in the air, as you see in this photo taken moments before the attacks began, Paris fans at the Eagles Of Death Metal concert made the Satanic “devil horns” salute without seemingly a care in the world. Amazingly, the song that was playing the moment the shooting started was called ‘Kiss The Devil‘, and here are some of the lyrics from that tune:

“KISS THE DEVIL” – BY EAGLES OF DEATH METAL

WHO’LL LOVE THE DEVIL?WHO’LL SONG HIS SONG?WHO WILL LOVE THE DEVIL AND HIS SONG?

I’LL LOVE THE DEVILI’LL SING HIS SONGI WILL LOVE THE DEVIL AND HIS SONG

WHO’LL LOVE THE DEVIL?WHO’LL KISS HIS TONGUE?WHO WILL KISS THE DEVIL ON HIS TONGUE?

I’LL LOVE THE DEVILI’LL KISS HIS TONGUEI WILL KISS THE DEVIL ON HIS TONGUE

As the French death metal fans were singing along with those lyrics, offering their love to Satan, the Devil responded as the Devil always does. With death and destruction. Now, you go ahead and spin that any way you like, any way that makes you feel comfortable. But as a Bible believer, I know exactlywhat happened Friday night at 9:40PM GMT in Paris, France. People asked for a manifestation of the Satan, and guess what? They got one.
CLICK HERE to view photogallery of shooting at the concert.

It is safe to say that there were just about no Christians at the concert that night, that the vast majority of those people were lost, unsaved people. I wonder how many of them were offered the life-saving gospel of Jesus Christ and turned their nose up at it? Probably more than a few of them. We see it all the time as we street preach in St. Augustine. To most lost people, the Devil is a joke and Hell will be a beer and sex infused party. Nothing could be further from the truth.

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” Hebrews 2:14 (KJV)

As those people bled and died on the dance floor of the Death Metal concert, they went from singing about the Devil to meeting the Devil face to face. Hell is no joke, it is absolutely not a party, and you do not have to end up there. Click here to read all about a place called Hell that you can avoid by trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Friday night they “kissed the Devil”, and the Devil kissed them right back. Don’t let it happen to you.

“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” Acts 16:30.31 (KJV)

Integration of Migrants: A Catholic Perspective

Evening debate Tuesday, 1 December 2015

18:30 - 20.00

People migrate for a variety of reasons. Leaving the land of one’s birth is never easy. Today an increasing number of people are driven out of their homeland by poverty or by despair concerning the economic or social prospects of themselves or their families. The European Union has witnessed lately an unprecedented influx of refugees and migrants, fleeing military conflicts or poverty in their native countries, seeking a better future among us.

The Catholic Church – together with other actors – plays an important role in welcoming migrants and in providing initial care for them and their families. With her long pastoral experience behind her, the Church realises we must look beyond the immediate horizon of a humanitarian crisis and consider how best to integrate migrants into the host societies.

Our evening debate here at COMECE brings together a variety of people from Catholic communities across Europe with a view to deepening our understanding of the complex challenges involved in integrating migrants into our host societies. Parishes are at the front-line of the integration challenge: their experience can enlighten all – politicians, civil servants, social workers, town planners, civic authorities – working on integrating migrants.

Ben Carson Exposes NWO, Destroys Liberal Media, 2016 Presidential (Campaign)

BEN CARSON EXPOSES NWO DESTROYS LIBERAL MEDIA 2016 PRESIDENTIAL

Ben carson exposes nwo destroys illuminati political correct mind games

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmdWo...

We are all witnessing an elaborate liberal media lynching of Dr. Ben Carson. The former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon turned leading black Republican presidential candidate is just the latest “uppity negro” (Justice Clarence Thomas, Herman Cain) to defy the expectations of his white liberal mainstream media masters by deciding to ditch the political hymnal from which most blacks read and think for himself.
On his September 10 Hardball program, cradle Catholic Chris Matthews voiced his disdain for political candidates discussing their religious faith and/or citing the Bible at a campaign event. The target of Mr. Matthews's wrath was Dr. Ben Carson, who recently quoted from the biblical book of Proverbs to answer a question related to Donald Trump.

For his part, guest Michael Steele, a former RNC chairman and a fellow who once studied for the priesthood, agreed that he'd rather neither Trump nor Carson talk about their religious faith:

MSNBC
Hardball
Sept. 10, 2015

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Michael Steele, I don't know what to say except, this is so high school. I'm sorry. It's not a great case for the Republican thinking here. I don't care what, it's summer, winter, fall, or spring. They're talking like high school kids yelling at each other at recess.

You know, first of all it's about, your girlfriend is not as good looking as mine and then it's you're not as good looking as mine and then it's my hair versus your hair and now I'm a better religious guy than you because I know more Bible citations than you. I don't think the doctor looked too good either. What's he talking about this stuff for? How about a big fat "no comment" when it comes to religion?

MICHAEL STEELE: Or just end that passage, that Bible passage on faith with himself. Put the period there and not go into, "well I don't know that that applies to him."

Again, I don't think that's first off, not very humble to refer back to the Scripture. But more importantly, I don't think that's the kind of discussion you want to have for the office of president. But do you understand the politics here, Chris? You have an opportunity here to galvanize evangelical Christians across the spectrum, behind the someone to solidify the numbers for Ben Carson. Trump knows that.

Trump says he's leading among evangelicals, that may or may not be true, but the gap could be closing and he wants to keep that distance. So that's the politics here and I don't think it's a smart way to play the politics, by using faith, one or the other

The way Matthews makes it sound, Dr. Carson is going about campaigning by constantly blathering on and on about the Bible, when in fact Carson's comment came in a short response to question posed to him Wednesday evening. As Dave Weigel of the Washington Post reported (emphasis mine):

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Ben Carson did not appear to be a man who set out to criticize Donald Trump Wednesday. He arrived at Anaheim's convention center for a rally, to which 8,000 people had RSVP'd, on the second day of a low-profile California swing. In a press conference before his speech, Carson talked about the faith of America's founders, the ease with which the Affordable Care Act could be dismantled, the Iran nuclear deal, and the difficulty of a Trump-style, deportation-first immigration reform.

It was only when he was asked to name a difference between himself and Trump that Carson seemed to lean in.

"The biggest thing is that I realize where my success has come from, and I don't any way deny my faith in God," said Carson. "And I think that probably is a big difference between us."

That was his entire answer. A reporter asked Carson to expand on that response, and on whether he didn't believe Trump's expressions of faith have been sincere.

"I haven’t heard it, I haven’t seen it," said Carson. "You know, one of my favorite, Proverbs 22:4, it says: 'By humility and the fear of the Lord, are riches and honor and life.' And that's a very big part of who I am. Humility, and fear of the Lord. I don’t get that impression with him. Maybe I'm wrong."

She is tolerant where she is helpless

A well-known writer speaks thus of the attitude of the papal hierarchy as regards freedom of conscience, and of the perils which especially threaten the United States from the success of her policy:

“There are many who are disposed to attribute any fear of Roman Catholicism in the United States to bigotry or childishness. Such see nothing in the character and attitude of Romanism that is hostile to our free institutions, or find nothing portentous in its growth. Let us, then, first compare some of the fundamental principles of our government with those of the Catholic Church.

“The Constitution of the United States guarantees liberty of conscience. Nothing is dearer or more fundamental. Pope Pius IX, in his Encyclical Letter of August 15, 1854, said: `The absurd and erroneous doctrines or ravings in defense of liberty of conscience are a most pestilential error—a pest, of all others, most to be dreaded in a state.’ The same pope, in his Encyclical Letter of December 8, 1864, anathematized `those who assert the liberty of conscience and of religious
worship,’ also ‘all such as maintain that the church may not employ force.’

“The pacific tone of Rome in the United States does not imply a change of heart. She is tolerant where she is helpless. Says Bishop O'Connor: ‘Religious liberty is merely endured until the opposite can be carried into effect without peril to the Catholic world.’... The archbishop of St. Louis once said: ‘Heresy and unbelief are crimes; and in Christian countries, as in Italy and Spain, for instance, where all the people are Catholics, and where the Catholic religion is an essential part of the law of the land, they are punished as other crimes.’...

“Every cardinal, archbishop, and bishop in the Catholic Church takes an oath of allegiance to the pope, in which occur the following words: ‘Heretics, schismatics, and rebels to our said lord (the pope), or his aforesaid successors, I will to my utmost persecute and oppose.’”—Josiah Strong, Our Country, ch. 5, pars. 2-4. [See Appendix for Corrected References.]

It is true that there are real Christians in the Roman Catholic communion. Thousands in that church are serving God according to the best light they have. They are not allowed access to His word, and therefore they do not discern the truth. [Published in 1888 and 1911. See Appendix.] They have never seen the contrast between a living heart service and a round of mere forms and ceremonies. God looks with pitying tenderness upon these souls, educated as they are in a faith that is delusive and unsatisfying. He will cause rays of light to penetrate the dense darkness that surrounds them. He will reveal to them the truth as it is in Jesus, and many will yet take their position with His people.

--The Great Controversy, pp. 564-565.
