Trump announces novel plan to send weapons to Ukraine and gives Russia new deadline to make peace

President Donald Trump on Monday laid out a pair of steps intended to pressure Russia to end its war in Ukraine, including funneling new weapons to Kyiv and threatening economic punishment on Moscow if peace isn’t reached in 50 days, as he grows increasingly disenchanted with his Russian counterpart.
Taken together, the moves amount to a markedly new approach to the conflict, which Trump has worked to distance himself from since taking office in January. Even as he delivered the announcement from the Oval Office, the president argued he wasn’t to blame for the prolonged war.
Still, he appeared entirely fed up with Russian President Vladimir Putin. And he acknowledged American weaponry – however it is delivered – would be necessary if Kyiv is to stave off a full-bore invasion.
“I felt we had a deal about four times,” Trump said, referring to a prospective peace agreement with Russia. “But it just kept going on and on.”
The plan the president unveiled Monday – which would see European nations purchase American weapons, then transfer them to Ukraine – has been under discussion for months, ever since Trump won last year’s election and European officials quickly began deliberating on ways to sustain US weapons shipments to Ukraine under a leader who had vowed to pull back American support.

Franklin Graham: ‘May God’s Hand Be Upon President Trump’ During Calls with Putin and Zelensky to Bring Peace

Reverend Franklin Graham is asking people to pray for President Donald Trump as he prepares for important conversations with the goal of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Graham said Trump is scheduled to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday.
“Pray for President Donald J. Trump today as he is scheduled to talk with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about a lasting peace agreement between their two countries,” he wrote.
“It is reported that some 5,000 people are dying every week in that bloody conflict. May God’s hand be upon President Trump and give him wisdom, and may God touch the hearts of these leaders and bring peace,” Graham added:
The Kremlin in Moscow on Monday confirmed the three leaders would speak via telephone at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, Breitbart News reported. Trump is scheduled to speak with Putin first, then Zelensky.
Trump announced the plans in a Truth Social post on Saturday, saying the subjects of the call would be stopping the “bloodbath” that is killing over 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers per week, and trade.
“I WILL THEN BE SPEAKING TO PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY OF UKRAINE AND THEN, WITH PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY, VARIOUS MEMBERS OF NATO. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A PRODUCTIVE DAY, A CEASEFIRE WILL TAKE PLACE, AND THIS VERY VIOLENT WAR, A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, WILL END. GOD BLESS US ALL!!!” he added.
Zelensky recently said he is willing to “personally” meet with Putin for peace talks in Istanbul, but continued demanding a ceasefire be established prior to negotiations, Breitbart News reported on May 11.
In a social media post on Monday, Zelensky said he hosted a meeting on diplomatic efforts to end the war.
“Minister of Defense of Ukraine, @rustem_umerov, reported on the work of our delegation and the negotiation process in Türkiye. The meetings on May 15–16 showed the world both our commitment to advancing peace and, at the same time, the necessity of pressuring Russia in order to stop the war,” he said:

Meanwhile, people commenting on Graham’s post said they were joining him in prayer for Trump and other world leaders.
“Praying for all three of them to trust in God a make the right decisions to end this war , and to put God first in their life and become peaceful Nations. In Jesus name amen,” one person commented, while another said, “Praying for God to intervene. For their heart to be turned to what is right. God give them compassion for their fellow man. In Jesus Name may You Be Glorified. Amen!”

A Trump-Putin Accord?

Why is it that American liberal Democrats and Europeans are so disturbed that Trump is moving the United States toward normal relations with Russia instead of maintaining a hostile approach to Russia based on proxy wars, sanctions, and endless propaganda? We know why the think tanks and university faculties supported by the military/security complex are upset–their incomes are at stake. But why the Democrats and Europeans? The answer will have to wait until another occasion. This column addresses readers’ questions about the many varied conflicting reports about a Trump-Putin deal.
What are my expectations, readers ask, for the Trump-Putin meeting about the conflict in Ukraine? I am pleased that readers think I have been sufficiently correct over the years for my analysis to be of interest.
The outlook for the resolution of the conflict and for a final end of the Cold War is good, but never forget the adage that “there’s many a slip between cup and lip.”
First of all, neither leader wants the war. Putin did everything he could to avoid war. He devised the Minsk Agreement which kept the breakaway Donbas republics in Ukraine. He begged for a mutual security agreement and was cold-shouldered. He was forced to intervene in Donbas by Washington, a conflict for which Russia was unprepared. Putin has fought the conflict in the least effective way possible in order to counter the Western propaganda that he had “invaded Ukraine” and Europe would be next.
Trump regards the orchestrated conflict the American Zionist neoconservatives created with Russia as a stupidity that is in the way of profitable business between the US and Russia and as a stupidity that is leading to the rise of BRICS and the denial of American business relationships with a large part of the world.
A war leader is the last thing Putin is, a job for which he has no talent. Trump favors business uber alles. So a deal is the most likely outcome.
Moreover, statements from Trump, Putin, Lavrov and other officials have created such expectations of an end to the conflict that it is now almost impossible not to deliver a mutually acceptable outcome.
