H. S. CALLS STUDENTS SATURDAY DETENTION

High school calls all 2,550 students to detention

Updated

PALM BAY — An accidental push of a button Friday had students at Palm Bay High questioning what they'd done wrong and parents plotting punishments.

Parents of all 2,550 students in the school received an automated call Friday reminding them that their student had to report for Saturday morning detention. Problem was, the message only should have gone to 16 homes.

"One of my friends texted me to ask if I had Saturday detention," said Robert Lenoci, 15, of Valkaria. The sophomore is going to the state science fair finals and hasn't been in trouble before.

"I looked and I had a message from mom. She was asking, 'What did you do?' It was pretty bad," he said.

Robert's mother calmed down after talking with other parents and learning something was amiss.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: Saturday Amy Stewart

Amy Stewart said after the call that she confronted her son, Jimmy, and he pleaded innocent.

"He said he didn't do anything, but I took him Saturday morning anyway," she said. About 40 students showed up.

That's when Stewart and dozens of other parents learned of the glitch.

"I had yelled at him. I felt so bad, I took him out for breakfast," Stewart said.

Steve Muzzy, assistant superintendent for information technology, said the parent notification system purchased about six years ago from Synrevoice Technology of Canada averages 20,000 calls a week.

He said half are for student absences and the rest for things such as overdue library materials, school calendar events or for emergency communications.

"Very, very rarely do we run across any problems. This was an unfortunate human mistake," he said. School officials said an employee apparently selected the wrong field, sending the message to all students.

Principal John Thomas said by the time the error was discovered, it was 9:30 p.m. and too late to call everyone. But he did send an apology via the system during the weekend.

The 7 to 9 a.m. detention on Saturdays has been in place for some time, for such infractions as repeatedly being late for class. But the automated system has been used for notification for only about two months.

Stewart just wants to make sure there is no suspension on her son's school record.

"I would hope there wouldn't be," she said.

THOUGHTS ON SCALIA'S LECTURE

Thoughts on Scalia's Lecture

I am just back from a lecture given by Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia at LSE. Strange to think that the only lecture I have attended so far at LSE is one by an American. Much of the audience was American and simply showed up to see what Scalia would talk about. His speech, although I forget the title now, discussed Scalia's well-known criticism of the Constitution as a living document as well as his disapproval of the role of the Supreme Court as moral arbiters.

He made the audience laugh with some good quotes:

-In response to a question on limiting the power of the state with some reference to the Nuremberg Trials, he said, "Hitler made a fine automobile."

-In reference to the overturning of sodomy laws (I forget where he was referring to specifically), he said he is willing to "accept that homosexual orgies eliminate social tension and ought to be encouraged." Irony, of course.

-I forget the specific quote exactly, but it's referenced in wikipedia. In reference to his criticism of the "Living Constitution, he says he's "skeptical that societies always 'mature,' as opposed to rot." That the Constitution was written and defined so that future societies couldn't do whatever they want.

-He also criticizes the politicizing of the process of nominating new Justices. Every nomination "is like a mini-constitutional convention." "It's crazy," he said.

-Oh, and on the topic of the profile of the next judge to be nominated, he said "Probably a woman. A Hispanic woman... that's Protestant." Haha.

As his speech progressed, I became increasingly uneasy about the future of law in the U.S. I don't know why exactly. Scalia is undoubtedly intelligent, witty, and sharp-tongued. I would not want to be on the receiving end, as some students were during the Q&A, of his criticism. The U.S. is in, if not safe hands (for some minorities), capable hands. But knowing his opinions on hot topics like abortion and same-sex marriage, although he didn't explicitly express them, is worrisome to me. To Scalia, that society (or at least parts) wants these to be legal is a sign of "rotting" than "maturing." True, Scalia is not final say on these issues, but it just struck a chord with me.

I think I need to be more politically active. I'm not apathetic by any means, but I feel like more is at stake than I first thought. How in jeopardy is Roe v. Wade right now? With aging Supreme Court Justices and the possibility of a conservative present appointing conservatively minded judges, it's certainly not in the clear. I don't know. I don't think about these things often enough, I suppose, and thinking of them now, I'm just a little worried. Lots of laws seem to be very abstract for people. They can get worked up about them but at the end of the day, they are unaffected by the ultimate consequences. It's easy to be that way, but fortunately or unfortunately, the issue of abortion is relevant to all women.

Anyways, some more uplifting stories to come at some time in the future when uplifting things occur.

SCALIA ON 'SO-CALLED TORTURE'

U.S. judge Scalia on 'so-called torture'

RAPHAEL G. SATTER
Associated Press Writer

One of the United States' top judges said in an interview broadcast in Britain on Tuesday that interrogators can inflict pain to obtain critical information about an imminent terrorist threat.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said that aggressive interrogation could be appropriate to learn where a bomb was hidden shortly before it was set to explode or to discover the plans or whereabouts of a terrorist group.

"It seems to me you have to say, as unlikely as that is, it would be absurd to say you couldn't, I don't know, stick something under the fingernail, smack him in the face. It would be absurd to say you couldn't do that," Scalia told British Broadcasting Radio Corp.

Scalia said that determining when physical coercion could come into play was a difficult question. "How close does the threat have to be? And how severe can the infliction of pain be? I don't think these are easy questions at all, in either direction," he told the BBC's "Law in Action" program.

U.S. interrogation techniques, including waterboarding, have been the subject of growing debate in the United States, and could play a role in the military trials of six men charged in connection with the Sept. 11, attacks. The issue also could find its way to the Supreme Court.

Scalia, visiting London during a break in the court's calendar, referred generally to those methods as "so-called torture," and said practices prohibited by the Constitution in the context of the criminal justice system - including indefinite detention - are readily allowed in other situations, such as when a witness refuses to answer a question in court.

"I suppose it's the same thing about so-called torture," he said in the interview. "Is it really so easy to determine that smacking someone in the face to find out where he has hidden the bomb that is about to blow up Los Angeles is prohibited by the Constitution?

"Is it obvious, that what can't be done for punishment can't be done to exact information that is crucial to the society? I think it's not at all an easy question, to tell you the truth."

Scalia, a judicial icon among American conservatives, an acerbic wit and often abrasive personality, said Europeans had no business "smugly" decrying those techniques as torture. Earlier in the interview he also faced down criticism of the U.S. death penalty.

"Europeans get really quite self-righteous, you know, (saying) 'no civilized society uses it.' They used it themselves - 30 years ago," he said, adding that a majority of Europeans probably supported capital punishment anyway.

Scalia said that neither he nor any of the eight other Supreme Court justices who collectively make up the United States' highest court should be seen as setting the moral tone for the international community.

"I don't look to their law, why do they look to mine?" he said.

"We don't pretend to be Western mullahs who decide what is right and wrong for the whole world," he said in the broadcast.

Scalia also took issue with his "tough guy" reputation, saying he would have had trouble navigating the Supreme Court nomination process as it exists today with his feelings intact.

"I'm very tender," he said.

WHY WERE THE REFORMERS BURNED?

WHY WERE OUR REFORMERS BURNED?

From the Book - Five English Reformers

Tyndale at the Stake: Lord, open the King of England's eyes!

by J.C. Ryle - 1890

There are certain facts in history which the world tries hard to forget and ignore. These facts get in the way of some of the world's favourite theories, and are highly inconvenient. The consequence is that the world shuts its eyes against them. They are either cut dead as vulgar intruders, or passed by as tiresome bores. Little by little they sink out of sight of the students of history, like ships in a distant horizon, or are left behind like a luggage train in a siding. Of such facts the subject of this paper is a vivid example:-" The Burning of our English Reformers; and the Reason why they were Burned."

JESUITS VS THE REFORMATION

Ignacio Loyola founder of the Jesuits

Throughout Christendom, Protestantism was menaced by formidable foes. The first triumphs of the Reformation past, Rome summoned new forces, hoping to accomplish its destruction. At this time the order of the Jesuits was created, the most cruel, unscrupulous, and powerful of all the champions of popery. Cut off from earthly ties and human interests, dead to the claims of natural affection, reason and conscience wholly silenced, they knew no rule, no tie, but that of their order, and no duty but to extend its power. (See Appendix.) The gospel of Christ had enabled its adherents to meet danger and endure suffering, undismayed by cold, hunger, toil, and poverty, to uphold the banner of truth in face of the rack, the dungeon, and the stake. To combat these forces, Jesuitism inspired its followers with a fanaticism that enabled them to endure like dangers, and to oppose to the power of truth all the weapons of deception. There was no crime too great for them to commit, no deception too base for them to practice, no disguise too difficult for them to assume. Vowed to perpetual poverty and humility, it was their studied aim to secure wealth and power, to be devoted to the overthrow of Protestantism, and the re-establishment of the papal supremacy.

When appearing as members of their order, they wore a garb of sanctity, visiting prisons and hospitals, ministering to the sick and the poor, professing to have renounced the world, and bearing the sacred name of Jesus, who went about doing good. But under this blameless exterior the most criminal and deadly purposes were often concealed. It was a fundamental principle of the order that the end justifies the means. By this code, lying, theft, perjury, assassination, were not only pardonable but commendable, when they served the interests of the church. Under various disguises the Jesuits worked their way into offices of state, climbing up to be the counselors of kings, and shaping the policy of nations. They became servants to act as spies upon their masters. They established colleges for the sons of princes and nobles, and schools for the common people; and the children of Protestant parents were drawn into an observance of popish rites. All the outward pomp and display of the Romish worship was brought to bear to confuse the mind and dazzle and captivate the imagination, and thus the liberty for which the fathers had toiled and bled was betrayed by the sons. The Jesuits rapidly spread themselves over Europe, and wherever they went, there followed a revival of popery.

To give them greater power, a bull was issued re-establishing the inquisition. (See Appendix.) Notwithstanding the general abhorrence with which it was regarded, even in Catholic countries, this terrible tribunal was again set up by popish rulers, and atrocities too terrible to bear the light of day were repeated in its secret dungeons. In many countries, thousands upon thousands of the very flower of the nation, the purest and noblest, the most intellectual and highly educated, pious and devoted pastors, industrious and patriotic citizens, brilliant scholars, talented artists, skillful artisans, were slain or forced to flee to other lands.

Such were the means which Rome had invoked to quench the light of the Reformation, to withdraw from men the Bible, and to restore the ignorance and superstition of the Dark Ages. But under God's blessing and the labors of those noble men whom He had raised up to succeed Luther, Protestantism was not overthrown. Not to the favor or arms of princes was it to owe its strength. The smallest countries, the humblest and least powerful nations, became its strongholds. It was little Geneva in the midst of mighty foes plotting her destruction; it was Holland on her sandbanks by the northern sea, wrestling against the tyranny of Spain, then the greatest and most opulent of kingdoms; it was bleak, sterile Sweden, that gained victories for the Reformation.

NOAH'S FAITH

NOAH'S FAITH

Hebrews 11:7

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of righteousness which is by faith.

If we make a simple outline of this verse, we get something like this:

By faith ...prepared ...saving

Condemned the World

By faith ...become heir ...righteous

Faith is something that is active. If it is not active, then it is dead. It is no longer faith. Faith is a process. It is believing God and acting upon that belief. This means that one must first of all know what God has said. You cannot make this first step with a closed Bible. Just imagine, for a moment, what would have happened if Noah had not believed God! Then imagine what would happen if you did not believe God.

Because of his faith, Noah was occupied. Real faith brings forth works. The thing he was occupied with saved his house. But there is something remarkable about this; the occupation by which he saved his house condemned the world!

In this modern day, that is still true. The man who is occupied in the saving of his house is going to condemn the world. Think that over.

Why will it condemn the world? In the first place it will be contrary to the wisdom of the world. The best wisdom the world can produce is only foolishness in the sight of God. Spiritual things are foolishness to the natural man, the man of the world. The man of the world does not like to be rebuked by any wisdom that is from above. Could the men of Noah's time see any sense in building a huge boat far from water and in a country where it had never rained? But God had told Noah things that were not seen as yet. God, by His Word, still tells man of things not seen as yet. These things are foolishness to those of the world. And finally these very things condemn the world. Provision for the future is not the style.

No doubt Noah's sanity was questioned by his neighbors. Our walk today will condemn the world because we have made provision to escape the wrath to come. They are not prepared.

Our walk will condemn the world because we lay up in store the invisible things which abide. They lay up treasures which are subject to corruption and which cannot be taken from this world.

Finally our walk will condemn the world because we lean upon and put our trust in a mighty power, a power that was able to raise our Lord from the dead and seat Him at the right hand of the Father in the glory as Head of the church which is His body. They trust in their own strength.

It is not necessary for us to do the things which the world will approve. We are to show ourselves approved unto God. We are to walk in the good works which were before ordained that we should walk in them. That will keep us occupied. By faith we also can inherit righteousness, condemn the world, and gain a crown. Let us be faithful.

FEAR-BASED RELIGION?

FEAR-BASED RELIGION?!!

About Sealed Discussions:

WARNING! The rest of this page below contains information that is sealed off from the Truth of Adventism Defended Forum. This means that no discussion is to be brought against the points proven in most of the links below. Those with this designation will be clearly marked. Any subscriber who brings up the points which have been disproven in the following list of discussions will be likely regarded as an offender and can be unsubscribed. We had to do this for we discovered that we were dialoguing with unscrupulous members of the papal army. Even after conclusive points were presented to the point where they dared not answer them, they continued to present their redundant points and merely mocked our questions away or laughed at them. We therefore have to institute this principle so as not the waste the time of the people.

The only way discussion upon these points can be brought up again is if the argument(s) are wholly unique in character. All challenges must be issued by applying directly to the owner of the forum, Mr. Ted McMillan:

tmac1238@seventh-dayadventism.com.

How many times have we heard it! What is even the purpose of this website! The issue at hand is the special preparation the saints must make for the end in light of the danger they are in. This preparation deals with what comes beside the spiritual. No one argues that spiritual preparation is necessary. People are telling us that if we make physical preparation also, that is cold and hard factual evidence that we are not spiritually prepared. They are telling us that we must make no physical preparation for what is coming. My assumption is that if a person is spiritually ready, he would automatically understand the necessity for the physical preparation and the preaching of the end-time messages.

What answer should we therefore give the many around us who approach us and tell us that we have a "fear-based religion." Maybe the first thing we should tell them is that they are not to judge: a frequent saying coming from their mouths. Maybe we should tell them to stick with their own views and stop trying to be uppity enough to lord their opinions over on us. How about if we told them where they can preach their messages to? What do I mean by that?

Why not just envision Noah in his day when he was preaching about the Flood that was to come, and the special preparation necessary in the construction of the ark. The first logical question is what are human being saved by? Are they saved by a boat? or are they saved by Jesus Christ? Is Jesus Christ all the sinner needs for salvation? If that was so, what was the purpose of the ark? Was it possible that some could have remained off the boat and just trusted in the Lord for their salvation?

I know this reasoning may sound silly, but these are the issues that approach us every day. Some very strange people among us are taking advantage of our illiteracy, so to speak, in this matter. We would not even address this topic if we knew that people were intelligent enough to not be deceived upon these issues. The fact is that in Adventism, most believers are deceived when it comes to these very issues.

The scriptures tell us that Noah was a preacher of righteousness. If we were to take the literal writing of the scriptures, what topic therefore must we conclude that Noah gave the most emphasis? Jesus?

Taking the word of God alone, we would have to conclude that Noah preached mostly about a flood that was to come, a boat that was to be constructed to withstand the flood, and the necessity of every individual getting on that boat. No one was to board that boat without confessing and forsaking his sins.

If those who approached us and told us that we have a "fear-based religion" were therefore in Noah's day, what would happen? Do you understand that we were witnesses and participants on an internet discussion forum? That forum was filled with jesuits who were posting. Those jesuits were telling us that we have to give up Ellen White and the doctrines of our church while telling us that they are calling for freedom of thought and opinion. They were telling us that we have to join with all the other churches in ecumenical union. Of course, they did not tell us they were jesuits. Some of them claimed to be Adventists and naturally put up quite a storm about being identified as jesuits, but we know better and know that they are jesuits because we know them by what they do and not what they claim to be. Everytime we suggested physical preparation for what was coming they became quite concerned and began quoting scripture to us telling us that we must not be concerned about the evil of tomorrow, but we must just trust in the Lord. They were telling us that we were not to have concerns, but we dwelling upon that particular issue of physical preparation for the storm to come always made them concerned enough to know that they don't dare remain silent. We know that the great inquisition is coming, and they know that too. It would really bother them if people were prepared for it.

Throughout most of the time spent on that internet forum, those strange people were posting against Ellen White and the danger she is to the truth. When we posted about what Rome was doing (also through their efforts) they posted in questions asking us whether or not we believed that God can conquer all enemies, including Rome. We replied to them if it was ever possible that the Lord can conquer the old, "false profit", "Jezebel" who was struck on the head with a rock. We were referring to Ellen White when we made that statement because most of the posts of these strange people were to attack, condemn, slander and destroy Ellen White's influence. They were the ones who made up those names for Ellen White while pushing a new and strange "gospel" they were telling us we should accept containing Christ's righteousness, while showing us that we must accept it. They always posted their grave concerns that Adventists will continue to listen to her. If they decide to listen to her, they will not think about uniting with all the churches under their pope. They can never hide the fact that this bothers them a great deal.

Essentially, what was proven was that everyone has concerns. The deceived have concerns just as much as the deceivers. They were telling us that it was wrong and a lack of faith to have concerns over a deceptive and deadly behemoth power now encasing the globe in a horrible hold of eternal death, while they were yet showing grave concerns about the fact that Adventists still believe in Ellen White--a person they even told us is not worth any concern.

Yet as people make comments to us stating that we have a fear-based religion, I instantly remembered a time I witnessed Mark Finley on a satellite system on 3ABN expostulating on the seige against the Children of Israel by the Assyrian king Sennacherib (1 Kings 19). He remarked about Hezekiah taking the threatening letter sent to him by Sennacherib where Sennacherib commanded them all to surrender themselves and their possessions to him. Hezekiah was found laying the letter before the Lord and afflicting himself in light of what was about to happen. Alot of other people in the city did the same thing. Hezekiah did not think of celebrating at that time. Hezekiah somehow couldn't understand that the Lord does not give His children the spirit of fear, but of love and power.

Mark Finley told how they rallied able and strong men together to dig a tunnel quickly so that they can have water to drink while the possible seige would take place. Why all this FEAR? Would not those ancient people have appreciated the seeming words of confidence commonly exhibited by our people today who are facing a worse and a much more gross danger?

What about when Haman was able to secure the edict against the Jews in Esther's day? What did the Jews do in light of what was about to happen to them? What dance did they learn in their celebration? They fasted and prayed earnestly for three days before Queen Esther walked into the chambers of King Ahaseurus to make her desperate request.

My argument is that there are enemies infiltrated among us. With danger all around us, these people have been partly planted among us to make sure that we are not prepared neither physically nor spiritually for what is coming. If we get concerned about the danger we are in, they will become concerned about us being concerned, to the point where they must get us to celebrate and do the boogie-woogie in church.

Can someone therefore expound for me on this doctrine of celebration? What is fear? What is wrong with fear? We can see that often fear was a necessity in the bible, and that it had different meanings. Other than that, who is here to tell me that all we are supposed to do is to celebrate, and the Lord will levitate us in the air when all the trouble hits since we were trained by our enemies to do nothing? Is it true that the Lord is too loving to leave us in the midst of deadly trouble, but will levitate us in the air even though we refuse to do what He has told us to do?

Haven't any of you noticed that Ellen White was continually described by her enemies as being a very "excitable" person? How it is that Satan's servants are always telling people that they should not be excited? That does have its time and place, but what when God's people, and yea the whole world is in danger and no one is doing a thing about it? We face a worse danger today, for persecution and issues unexpected are about to hit us. If we give in to the forced mandates, we will have to live in the flames of hell at least a day and a night according to the Third Angels Message. Why would God be so cruel? The deadly future under the reign of the Antichrist unrestrained will reveal the answer to that question.

How does Ellen White compare with us? Remember the Alpha apostasy that took place at the turn of the 20th century in her day? She was very concerned about all that was happening, and she was predicting a great calamity to take place at that time. Her prediction was fulfilled in the first world war, which closed down whole vast countries to the Gospel. Ellen White then stated that the Omega was coming in the future just before Christ comes, and that it will be worse than what she experienced in the Alpha. Why wouldn't it be worse? During the Alpha, there was liberty and no persecution here in the United States. Things will be different in the near future, but to be concerned about the lack of interest and preparation is termed paranoia, "fear-based religion" and the like.

Do everything God says. Follow everything prescribed for spiritual and physical preparation!

THEN. . .

HAVE NO FEAR!!

THE JESUS SOCIETY

THE JESUS SOCIETY

This is the elite of the RCC Initiated...the Jesuits. The following decrees have been excerpted from the Society of Jesus' own public documents as given to the lower level initiates of Jesuitism.

Jesuit GC 34:Decree 5:130 3. Vatican II has exhorted all Catholics to a dialogue which will "acknowledge, preserve, and promote the spiritual and moral goods found in other religions, and the values in their society and culture" in order to "join hands with them to work towards a world of peace, liberty, social justice, and moral values."2 The Holy Father has repeatedly asked Jesuits to make interreligious dialogue an apostolic priority for the third millennium.3 In a world where Christians comprise less than 20 percent of the population, it is imperative that we collaborate with others to achieve common goals. In the context of the divisive, exploitative, and conflictual roles that religions, including Christianity, have played in history, dialogue seeks to develop the unifying and liberating potential of all religions, thus showing the relevance of religion for human well being, justice, and world peace. Above all we need to relate positively to believers of other religions because they are our neighbors; the common elements of our religious heritages and our human concerns force us to establish ever closer ties based on universally accepted ethical value

Ecumenism- Jesuit GC 34: Decree 12:(Ecumenism)326 1. The signs of the times give stark proof of the fact that a faith doing justice must necessarily lead to ecumenical and interreligious dialogue and cooperation. In many parts of the world, it is precisely religious divisions that are a force contributing to injustice, violence, and even warfare. In situations of conflict, often fueled by historic confessional hostilities, ecumenism calls us to pardon and to love as essential components of a Gospel-inspired struggle for justice and reconciliation. As peoples move towards ever closer political, economic, social, and cultural unity, and as nations once divided by centuries of hatred and conflict form new supranational economic and political structures, the historic divisions of Christianity represent a flagrant counterwitness to the Gospel message "ut omnes unum sint" (John 17:21).

What a wonderful bunch of guys those Jesuit fellas are...wanting to promote interactive dialogue, prevent violence and conflicts and such! (sarcasm intended). The above public statements fully contradict these words excerpted from The Jesuit Oath (as relayed by Carlos Didier in his book Subterranean Rome, pp349-351) which is taken by high level Jesuits.

"I do further declare that the doctrine of the churches of England and Scotland, of the Calvinists, Huguenots and others of the name Protestants or Liberals to be damnable and they themselves damned who will not forsake the same. I do further declare, that I will help, assist, and advise all or any of his Holiness' agents in any place wherever I shall be, in Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, England, Ireland or America, or in any other Kingdom or territory I shall come to, and do my uttermost to extirpate the heretical Protestants of Liberals' doctrines and to destroy all their pretended powers, regal or otherwise."

"I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition; and that I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics, rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the walls, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisoned cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poniard or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity, or authority of the person or persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus."

The Jesuits are the most dangerous of the ecumenists as they are a leading force of the movement because their members infiltrate all other organizations and churches. They are wolves who have crept into the sheepfold and even into the ministry of ALL churches. They lead or influence church members by using "brainwashing" techniques, which are very subtle to the untrained, to cause them to accept Catholic doctrines ever so gradually.

Per Carlos Didier's Subterranean Rome, pp349-351, the new Jesuit leader is instructed: "you have been taught to act the dissembler: among Roman Catholics to be a Roman Catholic, and to be a spy even among your own brethren; to believe no man, to trust no man. Among the Reformers, to be a reformer; among the Huguenots, to be a Huguenot; among the Calvinists, to be a Calvinist; among other Protestants, generally to be a Protestant, and obtaining their confidence, to seek even to preach from their pulpits, and to denounce with all the vehemence in your nature our Holy Religion and the Pope; and even to descend so low as to become a Jew among Jews, that you might be enabled to gather together all information for the benefit of your Order as a faithful soldier of the Pope....To take sides with the combatants and to act secretly with your brother Jesuit, who might be engaged on the other side, but openly opposed to that with which you might be connected, only that the Church might be the gainer in the end, in the conditions fixed in the treaties for peace and that the end justifies the means."

Watch for messages from your church's pulpit that have subtle twists in them...you may have been supporting a Jesuit in ministers clothing! The fiery darts of Satan have no conscience...the Jesuits only care about the end results. The end justifies the means is a term directly from Communism...but this group does not promulgate communism...more like socialism....and it oozes utterly with Satanism. The term has been used by the Roman Catholic Church throughout the centuries to justify its murder of thousands who would not bend the knee to their rule and also to build its enormous size, wealth and power. It would be a tragedy of the greatest possible proportions if the bible-believing followers of Christ in these last days were to be deceived by the same satanic philosophy, only this time when it is applied to ecumenical evangelism. Will you trust these individuals of this secretive society?

Mt 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

TOLEDO OHIO: MAYOR KICKS MARINES OUT

Mayor kicks Marines out of Toledo

1-24th Marines were scheduled for weekend urban warfare training in downtown Toledo, when Carty gave them the boot

Carty 180

TOLEDO, OH -- Mayor Carty Finkbeiner on Friday ordered some 200 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines from Grand Rapids, Michigan, out of Toledo just before the unit was supposed to start a weekend of urban warfare training downtown.

The mayor’s spokesperson, Brian Schwartz said, “The mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people. He did not want them practicing and drilling in a highly visible area."

Toledo police said they knew about the training and had approved the unit’s use of the Madison Building and the Promenade Park area. The training was scheduled to start Friday afternoon and last until Sunday. Police said the unit’s presence would have a minimal impact on the city. Police issued a press release earlier in the week saying the Marines would be wearing green camouflage uniforms, operate military vehicles, carry rifles, perform foot patrols, and fire blank ammunition during the exercise.

Schwartz said there was a breakdown in communication between police and the Finkbeiner administration that led to the mayor’s action.

“The Marines drilled here three times during the Ford administration and once under the Finkbeiner administration. After the last visit, the mayor told then police Chief Jack Smith, that he did not want the marines back. Smith failed to inform the current police administration of the mayor’s feelings,” Schwartz said.

NBC24 spoke to Jack Smith who recalled that after the Marines last visit, he and the mayor had a heated exchange about the training.

“He told me he did not want them, as he put it, 'playing war in Toledo,'" Smith recalled. "I told him, as a former Marine, that if one young Marine’s life is saved because of training he or she received in Toledo, Ohio, then it was worth the inconvenience.”

Smith said if the mayor objected, then he should have been the one to convey those feelings to police. Smith took his run-in with the mayor as an objection to that last visit and not future training in Toledo. As a result, the Toledo police went ahead, granting approval to the 1-24th Marines to conduct the routine exercise. The police notified members of the Finkbeiner administration who were not aware that the mayor objected to units training in Toledo.

When the mayor found out, he sent a member of his staff to tell Marines they could not conduct urban operations in Toledo. The unit was notified about 3:30 p.m. after an advance team arrived in Toledo. Five buses carrying some 200 Marines traveled four hours from Grand Rapids, only to find out the training had been shot down.

The unit briefly stopped at a 1-24th Marine base in Perrysburg Township, then returned to Grand Rapids where training was expected to be held this weekend. A spokesperson for the Marines said they were disappointed by the mayor’s decision especially after the city had been so helpful in the past.

Finkbeiner held a news conference Saturday night to address the growing controversy. Finkbeiner says bad planning and communication breakdowns led to his decision to bar a Marine Corps unit from training in downtown Toledo. Finkbeiner spent much of the twenty minute news conference explaining what he didn't know, and when he didn't know it.

“I don't know when we were first asked,” he says, “were we asked Tuesday or Wednesday of this week?”

FINGER-SCANNING FOR SCHENGEN VISA

Finger-scanning mandatory for Schengen visa
By Preeti Kannan (Staff Reporter)

11 February 2008

DUBAI - Expatriates and UAE nationals applying for Schengen visas through the French consulate in Dubai will soon have to undergo finger-scanning.

In an attempt to tighten security and eliminate fraud, the French consulate in Dubai - the first diplomatic mission of a Schengen member-nation in the UAE - will ensure that visa applicants get all their fingers scanned if they have to visit France first.

The consulate is one of the “pioneer posts” where the biometrics equipment will be tested today and tomorrow as part of a global pilot project. In this connection, the French consulate would remain closed on the two days.

French Consul-General in Dubai Nada Yafi, told Khaleej Times, “The French government has made it mandatory to use biometric data for visa applicants and the consulate in Dubai is the first place where it is being tested out. All applicants, be they tourist, business or students, have to get their fingers scanned. The decision was taken last year to make it easier for people to get visas and also eliminate any element of fraud.”

She added that this was only the testing process and if all goes well, the biometric data system would be implemented from Thursday.

Apart from Dubai, a few French missions across the world are being equipped with the biometrics equipment and all of them, including the French mission in Abu Dhabi, are expected to have them in place by 2009.

According to Schengen visa rules, the applicant must first identify which Schengen country is the main destination, which determines the embassy or the consulate where the traveller should apply. If the main destination cannot be determined, the traveller should file the visa application at the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country of first entry.

“People will simply have to apply for a French visa if France is their main destination and submit their biometric data at the consulate. If they are visiting other Schengen member-countries first, they can go to France after that and do not need to get their fingers scanned,” said Yafi.

She remarked that as per European Union proposals, all member-countries are also expected to follow suit in the next few months where all non-Europeans would need to submit biometric data before crossing.

THREATS OF POWER SHORTAGE...URGENCY

Threat of Power Shortages Generating New Urgency

Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, February 3, 2008; Page A01

One in an occasional series

This Story

Electric power has already become painfully expensive in Washington and its suburbs. Now, local utilities say, it could become something even worse: scarce.

With its humming data centers and air-conditioned mansions, the region is using 18 percent more electricity than in 2001. And as demand has gone up, so have prices. Some homeowners have seen their rates jump by half or more.

Utility and government officials say the region has to face the idea that its demand for electricity could overtake the supply. In a little more than three years, they say, lights could flicker off in rolling blackouts.

To avert such shortages, electric companies have proposed a transmission line through the Loudoun countryside, a third nuclear reactor in Calvert County and other controversial projects. Even if the projects are built, they won't come online for years. Environmentalists say the region could solve many of its problems simply by conserving energy.

This year, leaders in Maryland, Virginia and the District will all face crucial decisions affecting the power supply. The main question: Given that Washington loves electric power as much as other types of power, could the region make do with less of it?

"We cannot do nothing," said Jone-Lin Wang, a Washington-based senior director at the analysis firm Cambridge Energy Research Associates. "If you do nothing, and the demand for power continues to grow, then we don't have enough supply."

This year, local governments have been wrestling with questions about how to get electricity, how to save it and how much it should cost. The D.C. Council is considering an investment in solar and wind power. In Maryland, Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) and the General Assembly are seeking ways to keep rates down.

And in Virginia, power giant Dominion has battled environmental groups over plans for a line connecting the region with power from the Midwest. The project's opponents say it will cut an ugly swath through Appalachian vistas. They also say the power company is exaggerating the need for the project and ignoring ways to save energy and money.

"They have absolutely no interest in anything that will reduce demand," said Christopher Miller, president of the Piedmont Environmental Council, a group opposed to the line. Because the power companies are pushing ahead with the proposal anyway, he said, "something that a lot of people value for its open space and beauty is being put at risk."

For many residents, the best clue that the region is having power problems comes in a little envelope every month. The region's major electric utilities have raised their rates an average of 52 percent since 2001, with the largest increases coming in Maryland. Baltimore Gas and Electric rates rose 74 percent in that time; Pepco's Maryland rates, 78 percent; and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative rates, 157 percent

In the District, Pepco rates went up 49 percent. "You spend less on other things and you save less," said Ann Loikow, a retiree in the District, whose December electricity bill was $58 more last year than the year before. She added, "I find myself rarely going into stores except for groceries and hardware."

Correction to This Article
This article includes an incorrect figure for the increase in the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative's rates between 2001 and 2008. The rates increased about 72 percent during that period, not 157 percent. The figure given for the region's average rate increase was also wrong. The number is about 47 percent, not 52 percent.

AUSTRALIA TO APOLOGIZE TO ABORIGINES

Australia to apologize for mistreatment of Aborigines

Feb 11, 2008, 18:12 GMT

Sydney - Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will stand up in Parliament this week and say sorry to the nation's 500,000 Aborigines for a now discredited assimilation programme that saw black children separated from their parents and brought up in white institutions.

The programme ran until the 1970s and, according to a 1996 government report 'not one indigenous family has escaped the effects of forcible removal.'

The children were taken mostly when they were teenagers, the boys trained up to be farm workers and the girls fitted for domestic service. Their training done, many were employed on low wages and with poor conditions.

But it was the break-up of families that caused the most grief.

'I remember being taken up to the convent, there were six of us taken and we ranged in age from 4 years old to about 9 years old,' Zita Wallace recalled. 'We were bathed by the older girls and put into clean clothes and we were put in the back of a truck and we were told that we were going to Alice Springs to do shopping. That was the last that we saw of our families.'

For some, the official apology for what the Bringing Them Home report declared were the 'stolen generations' will close the page on a sorry chapter in Australia's history.

'Whatever happens, a sorry is OK for me because this is what I waited for and I knew it was going to happen one day and this is my moment,' indigenous activist Lorna Cubillo said. 'People disagree, but that's OK. I'm not asking for anything more, just sorry is good enough.'

Cubillo will be among 1,000 indigenous Australians invited by Rudd to hear an apology for what he said was a 'blight on the nation's soul.'

Thousands more are expected to ring Parliament House for an apology not only 10 years in the making but also the very first act of Rudd's new Labor government. Big screens are going up in cities around the country and Australians are being encouraged to join in a collective act of reconciliation.

But others see the mea culpa as the start of atonement by white Australia that will have run its course only when billions of dollars have been paid in compensation to the stolen generations and their descendants.

National Aboriginal Alliance spokesman Les Malezer said the apology must be backed by 'reparations, which is part of forgiveness, as part of admitting that the wrong thing was done.'

Rudd, who has yet to release the wording of the apology that previous prime minister John Howard refused to give during his 11 years in office, has insisted there will be no pay-out. For him, as for many, the apology should stand alone as a touchstone in relations between the settlers and the indigenous people of the continent.

'This is a unique and necessary moment in our history,' Cynthia Breusch wrote to The Australian newspaper. 'Such symbolism carries with it the oxygen of respect.'

There are some Australians who can't easily come to say sorry. Howard's mantra was that it was unreasonable for one generation to be asked to apologies for the deeds of another.

Opposition indigenous affairs spokesman Tony Abbott said he would support the apology.

'But we'll be getting behind it in a way which acknowledges our true history, that's to say the good things that happened as well as unfortunate things that happened,' Abbott said. 'Yes, some kids were stolen, and this is shameful, but many were helped and some were rescued, and I think we need to be honest about that.'

Some are even more reluctant to bow the head. University of the Sunshine Coast politics lecturer Ivan Molloy said that 'the notion of inherited guilt which such an apology would support has no place in a civilized world.'

TWO CHURCH MEMBERS SHOT IN JAMAICA

Jamaica: Two church members shot leaving church meeting

Both men stable after surgery; Two persons held in police custody

Two members of the Bethel Town Seventh-day Adventist Church in Westmoreland, Jamaica were shot on February 7 while leaving a meeting at the church.

"Junior McKenzie was helping to direct Corporal Peter Salkey as he backed out on to the road when a man came up to the window and shot Salkey," Pastor Glen O. Samuels, president of the Adventist Church in Western Jamaica, told Adventist News Network.

"While Mckenzie was approaching the first gunman, another came up and shot him in the back," Samuels continued.

Salkey was shot twice, once in the chest and a second time in which the bullet entered his side and exited the other.

"He wasn't in any police uniform, so we are assuming it might have been the car that they wanted to steal," Samuels said. Samuels visited both men in the hospital over the weekend. He said McKenzie came through surgery well. However, Salkey, while alert, remains in the intensive care unit.

The men had just finished a planning meeting on how to reach out to men in the community. Just three weeks ago Salkey was ordained an elder of the church.

Samuels said the police are holding two persons in custody but wouldn't release any names.

-BIBLE MANUSCRIPTS AND TRANSLATIONS

A Brief History of Bible Manuscripts and Translations

The twenty-seven books of the New Testament were written in the second half of the first century after Christ. Not one of the original writings is preserved. However, early Christians carefully preserved copies of these sacred writings, taking the greatest care to eliminate copyist errors. Syria became the center of such copying endeavors.

Nevertheless, within a century of the writing of the New Testament canon, serious alterations were made, especially by scribes in the city of Alexandria in Egypt. These men were motivated by a desire to support their Gnostic errors, which included the view that Christ was not a member of the Godhead. Once scribes tampered with Scripture they became increasingly careless in their copying techniques, introducing numerous mistakes. However, the scribes of Syria did not deviate from their meticulous copying methods.

From these two copyist perspectives, two quite different streams of Greek manuscripts emerged. The Eastern stream, which became centered on Syria and Constantinople, remained true to the original writings of the apostles, while the Western stream, centered on Alexandria and Rome, was markedly flawed by both deliberate and careless alterations.

Early in the fourth century, Emperor Constantine commissioned Eusebius, bishop of Caesarea, to prepare fifty copies of the New Testament. Eusebius chose to copy the flawed Western manuscripts. His decision was influenced by his admiration of Origen, who himself was a corrupter of Holy Writ.

It is thought that two of Eusebius’ copies survive in the Codex Sinaiticus and the Codex Vaticanus. These copies contain many errors, and during the sixth and the seventh centuries at least ten different scribes attempted to make corrections to bring them somewhat closer to the valid Eastern manuscripts. Despite this effort, deliberate and careless errors remained in great numbers.

Knowledge of the errors did not prevent Jerome from using these faulty manuscripts as a basis for his Latin version of the Bible. His translation became the official Scripture of the Roman Catholic Church and is known as the Latin Vulgate. Disregarding all evidence to the contrary, the Council of Trent in the sixteenth century proclaimed the Latin Vulgate to be free from error.

But despite the great influence of the Papacy, true Christians were not deceived. Believers such as the Waldenses and the Gallic church of France and the Celtic church of Britain refused such perversion of God’s Word and used only those translations arising from the Eastern stream. This practice was also true of God’s churches in Ethiopia, Persia, India, and China.

When the Turks conquered Constantinople and destroyed the Byzantine Empire in 1453, men escaped to the West bringing priceless biblical and secular manuscripts with them. These manuscripts enlightened the dense darkness of the Middle Ages, a darkness directly attributable to Roman Catholic domination. The revelations of these manuscripts opened minds to learning and also to the pure, precious Word of God. The Renaissance spread throughout Europe like a wildfire, and shortly the Reformation arose.

God’s servants perceived that it was the Word of God in the language of the common people which opened minds to truth and dispelled the errors of the Papacy. As nation after nation threw off the shackles of Catholicism and embraced a pure faith based upon the inerrant Word of God, great fear gripped the leadership in Rome. The Council of Trent was called in 1545 to find a means to stem the advance of Protestantism.

Perceptively, the bishops gathered at the Council acknowledged that the free distribution of the Bible to all men would prove the death knell of the Roman Catholic Church. Wherever men and women read this precious Book, the errors of Catholicism were forsaken.

Gladly would these wily bishops have cast every Bible into a sea of flames as they had done in previous generations, but their coercive power had disappeared from much of Europe. Thus more subtle means were required to reverse the great advance of scriptural truth. Some less farsighted bishops even suggested that the Roman Catholic Church, too, endorse the Bible as the sole source of faith. They reasoned that they might be able to wean men and women from Protestantism if they proclaimed such a view. But the Jesuits saw that such a stand, rather than serving to rescue the Catholic faith, would seal its doom. With the Archbishop of Reggio as their spokesman, the Jesuits totally overthrew this faulted tactic by pointing out that there was no scriptural basis for Sundaykeeping, and unless the church was prepared to return to Sabbathkeeping, they must uphold the authority of the tradition of the church above that of the Scriptures.

The Archbishop of Reggio’s successful argument won a continued place for church tradition as the major source of Catholic doctrine, but it did not provide a solution to the advance of Protestantism and the supremacy of Scripture in the hearts of Protestants. The Jesuits thus devised a new strategy. While having little regard for the Bible, they nevertheless went to Douay and Rheims in France and translated the Bible into the English language using the Latin Vulgate as its basis, although resorting to the original languages in some areas.

The Jesuits were not bothered by the faultiness of their new translation; it furthered their aims. Their faith depended not upon God’s Word, but rather upon church tradition. Accuracy was not vital to their undertaking, and inaccuracies would assist them in their aim to weaken Protestant faith in God’s Word. It is the corruption of God’s Word which turns men and women to the authority of men and the church in place of the Bible.

For three centuries the design of the Jesuits met with scant success. Protestants were acutely aware of the perversions of the Western manuscripts and eschewed them. Men such as William Tyndale died at the stake rather than submit to a perverted Scripture. The Reformers of Europe united to bring before God’s flock the precious truths of the pure Word of God. It was in this commitment of fidelity to God’s Word that the King James Version of the Bible was undertaken by godly men.

But in the nineteenth century the Jesuits penetrated the Anglican Church in force. This infiltration led to the formation of what became known as the Oxford movement early in that century. This movement among young Anglican clerics upheld the re-introduction of Catholic practices such as the confession, the adoration of Mary, and the celebration of the Mass, into the Anglican Church.

When in the 1870s the archbishopric of Canterbury undertook a revision of the King James Version of the Bible, the revision committee’s two most influential figures, Doctors Westcott and Hort, were greatly under the influence of the Oxford movement. They encouraged the translators to discard the pure Eastern manuscripts upon which the Protestant Reformation and its Bible were based and to revert to the perverted Western manuscripts, ever the ally of Catholicism.

Thus the Revised Version of 1881 transformed the nature of the English-language Scripture. This version, and the American Revised Version which followed twenty years later and which was equally faulted, did not initially have a profound influence in Protestantism, for the King James Version remained the standard Bible of these churches.

But the appearance of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible in the second half of the twentieth century, followed by a plethora of new translations, saw the scheme of the Jesuits finally implemented. Today most Protestants have discarded the trusted King James Version and now cheerfully use Bibles which are based upon Catholic manuscripts. All the best-known modern translations with the exception of the New King James Version (also known as the new Authorized Version) distort Scripture. These translations include the New International Version, the New English Bible, Today’s English Version, Phillips’ translation, and a host of others.

Is it any wonder that the Catholics openly rejoiced at the appearance of the Revised Version, proclaiming that its use would be the death knell of Protestantism? The use of these translations has seriously weakened the Protestant perception of the errors of Rome. Already the effects of the use of these translations, initially sponsored by theologians, are plain to see.

WHEN CATHOLIC APOLOGISTS DIFFER

When Catholic Apologists Differ

Patrick Madrid, a well-known lay Catholic apologist, has an article in the Boston Pilot claiming that Sunday can be proven from the Scriptures. He cites a number of Scriptures that are often used by Fundamentalists to assert the apostolic origin of Sunday observance. He says it wasn’t “changed” by the Catholic Church, but he says the apostles “transferred” the observance of Sabbath to Sunday.

He’s wrong in saying that Seventh-day Adventists claim the Catholic Church changed the day–Adventists merely cite notable Catholic writers who make the claim, and are proud of it.

Here’s what a very eminent Catholic apologist said on the subject–James Cardinal Gibbons was the Archbishop of Baltimore from 1877 to 1921, and is known best by later generations for his classic work of apologetics, The Faith of Our Fathers (still published today by TAN Books). Gibbons wasn’t a lay apologist like Madrid; he was an archbishop for 44 years–surely he knew Catholic history, theology, and Scriptural interpretation.

He said,

“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.”

Other equally knowledgeable prelates put the imprimatur on generations of catechisms which taught young Catholics that indeed it was the church that changed it.

For example, Fr. Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, with the imprimatur of John Cardinal McCloskey (1864-1885), said that if Protestants were really believers in “Scripture alone,” they would change many of their practices.

They should, if the Scripture were their only rule, wash the feet of one another, according to the command of Christ, in the 13th chap. of St. John;—they should keep, not the Sunday, but the Saturday, according to the commandment, “Remember thou keep holy the SABBATH-day;” for this commandment has not, in Scripture, been changed or abrogated;…—they should not baptize infants, as there is no example in Scripture to justify such a practice.

There’s also The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, by Rev. Peter Geiermann, C.SS.R., an edition of which is also still published by TAN Books, which says not only that the Catholic Church changed it without Scriptural warrant, but also specifies the Council of Laodicea as the time (336 AD) and place of the change. This historical reference is omitted in later editions, but not the claim of the change by the authority of the Catholic Church.

Yet Madrid does make a valid point that can be substantiated further down. He gives as a reason for the “transfer”–”The early Christians sought to differentiate themselves from the Judaism [sic].”

That is very true. That was the thesis of an historical study on the subject done at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Samuele Bacchiocchi, From Sabbath to Sunday: A Historical Investigation of the Rise of Sunday Observance in Early Christianity, especially the fifth chapter, which has also been published separately as Anti-Judaism and the Origin of Sunday (Rome: Pontifical Gregorian University Press, 1975). Here’s an important historical book, published by a pontifical press with the imprimatur, that agrees with Madrid’s point that anti-Judaism was a major factor, while at the same time agreeing with these other Catholic authors that the change is not in Scripture, but can be dated to the 2nd century.

POOR HAITIANS RESORT TO EATING DIRT

Poor Haitians Resort to Eating Dirt

Jonathan M. Katz in Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Associated Press
January 30, 2008

It was lunchtime in one of Haiti's worst slums, and Charlene Dumas was eating mud.

With food prices rising, Haiti's poorest can't afford even a daily plate of rice, and some must take desperate measures to fill their bellies.

haiti picture

Charlene, 16 with a month-old son, has come to rely on a traditional Haitian remedy for hunger pangs: cookies made of dried yellow dirt from the country's central plateau.

The mud has long been prized by pregnant women and children here as an antacid and source of calcium. But in places such as Cité Soleil, the oceanside slum where Charlene shares a two-room house with her baby, five siblings, and two unemployed parents, cookies made of dirt, salt, and vegetable shortening have become a regular meal.

"When my mother does not cook anything, I have to eat them three times a day," Charlene said. Her baby, named Woodson, lay still across her lap, looking even thinner than the slim 6 pounds, 3 ounces (2.7 kilograms, 85 grams) he weighed at birth.

Though she likes their buttery, salty taste, Charlene said the cookies also give her stomach pains. "When I nurse, the baby sometimes seems colicky too," she said.

Food Prices Up

Food prices around the world have spiked because of higher oil prices, needed for fertilizer, irrigation, and transportation. Prices for basic ingredients such as corn and wheat are also up sharply, and the increasing global demand for biofuels is pressuring food markets as well.

The problem is particularly dire in the Caribbean, where island nations depend on imports and food prices are up 40 percent in places.

The global price hikes, together with floods and crop damage from the 2007 hurricane season, prompted the UN Food and Agriculture Agency to declare states of emergency in Haiti and several other Caribbean countries.

Caribbean leaders held an emergency summit in December to discuss cutting food taxes and creating large regional farms to reduce dependence on imports.
