Hellfire II Missile System
Hellfire is currently produced in three configurations – Anti-Tank, Blast-Fragmentation and Thermobaric. A choice of semi-active laser and milimeter wave active seekers are also available. The 45kg Hellfire II missile (48kg in AGM-114M version) offers operational range of 0.5 to 8 km, and utilizes a semi-active laser seeker which has improved targeting capability, including advanced processing to solve laser obscurant/backscatter problems identified during combat engagements in 1991.
Hellfire II locks on before or after launch and can engage multiple targets simultaneously. The missile uses Trajectory Shaping to enable optimal performance in degraded weather. Operation under degraded weather conditions are also improved with automatic target reacquisition after loss of track in low clouds. The digital autopilot can be reprogrammed in flight, to home in on new targets in when employed in a Lock-On After Launch mode. Hellfire II is also uses equipped with electro-optical countermeasures hardening. The missile is capable of operating with pulsed radar frequency or A-Code laser codes for those aircraft equipped with dual code capability. When employed with the AH-64D Longbow mm radar targeting system, the missile can also be equipped with a millimeter-radar seeker, which enables "fire and forget" operation in adverse weather, dust and smoke. The Longbow missiles are fully compatible with the launchers carried on the Longbow Apache which also carry the AGM-114K/M laser guided missiles. Beside autonomous homing on targets designated by the Longbow Fire Control system, the missile can also use advanced modes, currently being upgraded to the system, which provide home-in on active jammers that try to degrade or disable the missile. The missile will also receive advanced countermeasures to defeat and cancel jammers.
Hellfire II is provided with a choice of three warheads - a tandem warhead (to defeat advanced / reactive armor), blast-fragmentation warhead with delay fuse is used against soft, light armored targets, small boats, brick and concrete structures and bunkers. Modified HEAT WarheadThe Hellfire AGM-114K anti-tank version has been modified to improve its fragmentation capability, when engaging soft targets. The Mod-K modification, pursued by Dynetics for the Aviation & Missiles R&D and Evaluation Center, included the installation of a fragmentation sleeve placed around the shaped charge, optimizing fragment lethality against a broad target set, while minimizing degradation of shaped charge performance. Thermobaric version of the HellfireHellfire thermobaric warhead using a metal augmented explosive charge is used primarily in urban warfare, against bunkers, buildings caves and other concealed targets. This warhead is designed to inflict greater damage in multi-room structures, compared to the Hellfire's standard or blast-fragmentation warheads. The Metal Augmented Charge or MAC (Thermobaric) Hellfire, designated AGM-114N, has completed rapid development cycle in 2002 and was deployed during OIF by US Marines Helicopters in Iraq. The new warhead contains a fluorinated aluminum powder that is layered between the warhead casing and the PBXN-112 explosive fill. When the explosive detonates, the aluminum mixture is dispersed and rapidly burns. The resultant sustained high pressure is extremely effective against enemy personnel and structures. The AGM-114N is designed for deployment from helicopters such as the AH-1W or UAVs such as the Predator drones. Hellfire LongbowThe combination of Hellfire II's precision guidance and Longbow fire control and Hellfire's fire-and-forget millimeter-wave seeker capability provide the battlefield commander flexibility across a wide range of mission scenarios, permitting fast battlefield response and high mobility not afforded by other anti-armor weapons. The Longbow variant of the Hellfire missile is designated AGM-114L. Greece is seeking to add 657 AGM-114 Helfire II missiles to equip its ground forces. The Greek armed forces are requesting the US for 633 AGM-114K1 anti-tank missiles fitted with a tandem HEAT warhead and 24 AGM-114M1 missiles equipped with Blast Fragmentation warheads. The deal worth US$66 million also include Hellfire II Training and drill missiles and technical support.

Wednesday, 3 November, 1999, 11:35 GMT Echelon spy network revealed
Listening in to your phone calls and reading your emails
By Andrew Bomford of BBC Radio 4's PM programme Imagine a global spying network that can eavesdrop on every single phone call, fax or e-mail, anywhere on the planet. It sounds like science fiction, but it's true. Two of the chief protagonists - Britain and America - officially deny its existence. But the BBC has confirmation from the Australian Government that such a network really does exist and politicians on both sides of the Atlantic are calling for an inquiry. On the North Yorkshire moors above Harrogate they can be seen for miles, but still they are shrouded in secrecy. Around 30 giant golf balls, known as radomes, rise from the US military base at Menwith Hill. Linked to the NSA Inside is the world's most sophisticated eavesdropping technology, capable of listening-in to satellites high above the earth. Facility is said to be capable of 2m intercepts per hour
| The base is linked directly to the headquarters of the US National Security Agency (NSA) at Fort Mead in Maryland, and it is also linked to a series of other listening posts scattered across the world, like Britain's own GCHQ. The power of the network, codenamed Echelon, is astounding. Every international telephone call, fax, e-mail, or radio transmission can be listened to by powerful computers capable of voice recognition. They home in on a long list of key words, or patterns of messages. They are looking for evidence of international crime, like terrorism. Open Oz The network is so secret that the British and American Governments refuse to admit that Echelon even exists. But another ally, Australia, has decided not to be so coy. The man who oversees Australia's security services, Inspector General of Intelligence and Security Bill Blick, has confirmed to the BBC that their Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) does form part of the network. "As you would expect there are a large amount of radio communications floating around in the atmosphere, and agencies such as DSD collect those communications in the interests of their national security", he said. Asked if they are then passed on to countries like Britain and America, he said: "They might be in certain circumstances." But the system is so widespread all sorts of private communications, often of a sensitive commercial nature, are hoovered up and analysed. Journalist Duncan Campbell has spent much of his life investigating Echelon. In a report commissioned by the European Parliament he produced evidence that the NSA snooped on phone calls from a French firm bidding for a contract in Brazil. They passed the information on to an American competitor, which won the contract. "There's no safeguards, no remedies, " he said, "There's nowhere you can go to say that they've been snooping on your international communications. Its a totally lawless world." Breaking the silence Both Britain and America deny allegations like this, though they refuse to comment further. But one former US army intelligence officer has broken the code of silence. Colonel Dan Smith told the BBC that while this is feasible, it is not official policy: "Technically they can scoop all this information up, sort through it, and find what it is that might be asked for," he said. "But there is no policy to do this specifically in response to a particular company's interests." Legislators on both sides of the Atlantic are beginning to sit up and take notice. Republican Congressman Bob Barr has persuaded congress to open hearings into these and other allegations. In December he is coming to Britain to raise awareness of the issue. In an interview with the BBC he accused the NSA of conducting a broad "dragnet" of communications, and "invading the privacy of American citizens." He is joined in his concerns by a small number of politicians In Britain. Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker has tabled a series of questions about Menwith Hill, but has been met with a wall of silence. "There's no doubt it's being used as a listening centre," he said, "There's no doubt it's being used for US interests, and I'm not convinced that Britain's interests are being best served by this." theosophy Pronunciation: [thEos´ufE] (key) [Gr.,=divine wisdom], philosophical system having affinities with mysticism and claiming insight into the nature of God and the world through direct knowledge, philosophical speculation, or some physical process. This system of thought differs from many other philosophical positions in that it begins with an assumption of the absolute reality of the essence of God, from which it deduces the essentially spiritual nature of the universe. Other assumptions frequently found in theosophical doctrine are that God is the transcendent source of all being and all good; that evil exists in the world because of human desire for finite goods and may be overcome by complete absorption in the infinite; and that sacred writings and doctrines are interpreted through allegory. This is the position of much speculative mysticism. However, mysticism generally confines itself to the soul's relation to God, while the theosophist uses these theories to formulate a complete philosophy of humanity and nature. History The Neoplatonists, the Gnostics, and the kabbalists are generally considered types of theosophists. Jakob Boehme, regarded as the father of modern theosophy, developed a complete theosophical system attempting to reconcile the existence of an all-powerful and all-good God with the presence of evil in the world. The philosophy and theology of Asia, especially of India, contain a vast body of theosophical doctrine. Modern theosophy draws much of its vocabulary from Indian sources. The Theosophical Society, with which theosophy is now generally identified, was founded in 1875 by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky; associated with her were H. S. Olcott and W. Q. Judge. Blavatsky wrote The Secret Doctrine (1888, repr. 1964) and Key to Theosophy (1931, rev. ed. 1969). An active exponent of theosophy in Europe, America, and the East was Annie Besant, who added many works to the literature on the subject. Saint Augustine and the Western Christian World-ViewBy Lewis Loflin A very influential and great philosopher and theologian of Late Antiquity, Saint Augustine of Hippo is the most important of the Latin Church Fathers. His works, especially his Confessions (a self-biography) and City of God, helped distinguish the Church in Western Europe from the Church as it developed elsewhere. Protestant reformers Calvin and Luther, would draw their theology from this man. It would be very wise to find out what this man really taught. Augustine would also justify the "Just War" doctrine to give the church the theological grounds for murder and terror in Christ' name. Augustine did have one opponent and his name is Pelagius, a British monk. The church went along with Augustine and declared Pelagius a heretic in the West, but he was cleared in the East. In Confessions that I read in college we have a profile of a disturbed and unhappy man. As a child he complained of wanting to play like other children yet goes on to talk about harsh beatings for neglecting his studies and how his parents "enjoyed" his torment. He never married, but bore a son with a concubine that he fell in love with. He grieved when she was sent away and he couldn't marry her because of some social custom he never went into. His father died before he went to Italy. He would grieve later for his mother and the sacking of Rome. He was born to Latin speaking parents of mixed religious beliefs on November 13, AD 354 at Thagaste, in the north African province of Numidia. Augustine's father, Patricius, was a pagan and his mother (Saint Monica) while a Christian still held some pagan ideas. Their mixed beliefs caused confusion for Augustine and led him to question religion in general. It made sense that Augustine searched for truth, as well as deciding at a later date to convert to Christianity. It should be noted that his religious confusion, search for truth, and deep emotional pain in his personal life twisted his vision of Christianity once he did convert. Financed by a family friend at the age of sixteen, Augustine moved to Carthage to study rhetoric. At seventeen he read Cicero's "Hortensius" which further inspired him to know the truth. Soon Augustine joined the Manichees. The Manichees were a religious group that stressed purity of life and the need to place emphasis on the importance of Christ. The Manichees seemed so valuable to Augustine because they promised to provide him with the "truth" he was seeking. With the Manichees, Augustine was able to write his first work which dealt with aesthetics and was entitled, "On the Beautiful and the Fitting." One point not brought out in Confessions is, "Who are the Manichees?" When he wrote his biography the Manichees were a well known and altering type of Christianity. Drawing from Christianity, Gnosticism, Zoroastrianism/Mithraism and Greek paganism, their main theme was all creation (flesh) was evil. They believed all sex, even in marriage including the birth of children was evil and sinful. Thus celibacy is best and in my opinion the Catholic church drew its celibacy nonsense from this introducing another pagan concept into the faith. Augustine, because of his love of sex, would be torn between sex and sin. Lastly, Manichees were dualist and apocalyptic believing in good versus evil, Satan versus God, etc. (Zoroastrianism) The Book of John and Book of Revelation are heavy on Gnostic symbolism and perhaps proto-Gnostic. The Manichees were declared heretics and wiped-out by the Church. Even more important is the Gnostic and Manichean influence was very strong in Alexandria, Egypt and in my opinion that along with Neo-Platonism would influence the Trinity. The Christianity of the 4th century was not the Christianity of most early Christians or anything Jesus ever taught. See Gnosticism, an Overview. By 384 Augustine was unsatisfied with the Manichees and he broke away to open the New Academy, a school of rhetoric, in which he became the official orator of Milan. Much of his time seem to be spent trying to get his pupals to pay him. Augustine was finally converted to Christianity in 386 and was baptized the next year. The damage was already done. In 391 he returned to North Africa to live a somewhat monastic (celebrate) life before being ordained as a priest in order to assist the archbishop of Hippo. Four years later Augustine became the Bishop of Hippo, from which point he devoted all his work to the service of the church. It was in 397 that Augustine began his autobiographical Confessions. His intention for this work was to give an account of his conversion to Christianity. Augustine also expressed his ultimate desire for truth and happiness therein. Just page after page of happy self-loathing. He finished his Confessions in 401. Shortly thereafter he began work on another book during that period which was titled City of God. In it, Augustine traced the story of the human race from the time of Adam and Eve in the Tigris-Euphrates river region to his own time. Augustine remained Bishop of Hippo until his death in 430 AD. Also see the following:
Augustine invented the concept of Original Sin as we have it today. From the Encarta Multimedia Encyclopedia on Original Sin, Original Sin, in Christian theology, the universal sinfulness of the human race, traditionally ascribed to the first sin committed by Adam. Theologians advocating original sin argue that the concept is strongly implied by the apostle Paul, the apostle John, and even by Jesus himself. Late Jewish apocalyptic writings attribute the world's corruption to a prehistoric fall of Satan, the temptation of Adam and Eve, and the resulting disorder, disobedience, and pain of human history. Saint Augustine appealed to the Pauline-apocalyptic understanding of the forgiveness of sin, but he also included the notion that sin is transmitted from generation to generation by the act of procreation. He took this idea from 2nd-century theologian Tertullian, who actually coined the phrase original sin. Medieval theologians retained the idea of original sin, and it was asserted by 16th-century Protestant reformers, primarily Martin Luther and John Calvin. Liberal Protestant theologians later developed an optimistic view of human nature incompatible with the idea of original sin. Tertullian of Carthage: (150-225) advised that: "Divine revelation, not reason, is the source of all truth." The struggle between reason and revelation has been the hallmark of the church. See Deism. The ancient Greeks knew the world was round and the earth circled the sun, but "revelation" said the opposite so scripture was right, reason was wrong. Augustine would further expand on this. Augustine's idea that we are responsible for Adam's "Fall" is a direct contradiction of Ezekiel 18 where God clearly says only the sinner will die and their children are innocent. The Bible never mentioned Original Sin as such, and Jesus never implied it in this manner. In 410, when Augustine was in his fifties, Visigoths sacked Rome, a disaster for which the classical consciousness was unprepared. Pagans and Christians blamed each other for the disaster. Even Christians expressed anxiety, "Why were the righteous also suffering?" Where was the kingdom of God on earth that had been prophesied? Augustine was further shattered emotionally. Augustine's The City of God was a response to the crisis of the Roman Empire in the same manner that Plato's Republic was a reaction to the crisis of the Athenian polis. But whereas Plato expressed hope that a state founded on rational principles could remedy the abuses of Athenian society, Augustine maintained that the worldly city could never be the central concern of a Christian. He said that the ideal state could not be realized on earth, that it belonged only to heaven. The misfortunes of Rome, therefore, should not distress a Christian unduly, for Christianity belonged to the realm of the spirit and could not be identified with any state. The collapse of Rome did not diminish the greatness of Christianity, for the true Christian was a citizen of a heavenly city that could not possibly be pillaged by ungodly barbarians, but would endure forever. Compared to God's heavenly city, the decline of Rome was unimportant. The welfare of Christianity was not to be identified with Rome's material progress or even its existence. Thus like the Manichees he saw nothing worthy in world at all, but that doesn't mean he would ignore it. He stipulated that although the earthly city was the very opposite of the heavenly city, it was a reality that people must face. Christians could not reject their city entirely, but must bend it to fit a Christian pattern. The city that someday would rise from the ruins of Rome must be based upon Christian principles. Warfare, economic activity, education, and the rearing of children should all be conducted in a Christian spirit. Although the City of Man was ever evil, imperfect, and of no consequence in comparison to the City of God, it was not about to disappear and be replaced by the Kingdom of God on earth. The church could not neglect the state, but must guide it to protect human beings from their own sinful natures. The state must employ repression and punishment to restrain people, who were inherently sinful, from destroying each other and the few good men and women that God had elected to save from hell. It was in "warfare" and terror this perversion of Jesus' Church would excel. See Good Wars by Darrel Cole. Finally, like Tertullian, Augustine repudiated the distinguishing feature of classical humanism—the autonomy of reason. (This wasn't the atheistic secular humanism of today.) For him, ultimate wisdom could not be achieved through rational thought alone; reason had to be guided by faith. Without faith there could be no true knowledge, no understanding. Philosophy had no validity if it did not first accept as absolutely true the existence of God and the authority of his revelation. Valid ethical standards could not be formulated by reason alone, but were revealed to people by the living God. Christian truth did not rest on theoretical excellence or logical consistency; it was true because its source was God. Yet Augustine continued to insist "revelations" were true even if in direct contradiction of both Jesus or the Old Testament. Without reason all we have is blind superstition and a cult. See Humanism Rejected In conclusion Augustine's influence on Western Christianity is second only to Paul and Jesus. His great influence on Luther and Calvin would distort Protestant outlooks as well. His outlook on the City of God and City of Man is still the vision of repressive Puritanism and modern Protestant fundamentalism. Marvin Perry, Western Civilization, Ideas, Politics, and Society, 2nd edition. Pages 167-70 Additional materialIt would be unfair to judge "The City of God" by the standard of modern exegetical and historical scholarship. Augustin's interpretations of Scripture, although usually ingenious and often profound, are as often fanciful, and lack the sure foundation of a knowledge of the original languages; for he knew very little Greek and no Hebrew, and had to depend on the Latin version; he was even prejudiced at first against Jerome's revision of the very defective Itala, fearing, in his solicitude for the weak and timid brethren, that more harm than good might be the result of this great and necessary improvement. His learning was confined to biblical and Roman literature and the systems of Greek philosophy. He often wastes arguments on absurd opinions, and some of his own opinions strike us as childish and obsolete. He confines the Kingdom of God to the narrow limits of the Jewish theocracy and the visible Catholic Church. He could, indeed, not deny the truths in Greek philosophy; but he derived them from the Jewish Scriptures, and adopted the impossible hypothesis of Ambrose that Plato became acquainted with the prophet Jeremiah in Egypt (comp. De Doctr. Christ. II. 28), though afterwards he corrected it (Retract. II. 4). He does not sufficiently appreciate the natural virtues, the ways of Divine providence and the working of His Spirit outside of the chosen race; and under the influence of the ascetic spirit which then prevailed in the Church, in justifiable opposition to the surrounding moral corruption of heathenism, he even degrades secular history and secular life, in the state and the family, which are likewise ordained of God. In some respects he forms the opposite extreme to Origen, the greatest genius among the Greek fathers. Both assume a universal fall from original holiness. But Augustin dates it from one act of disobedience,--the historic fall of Adam, in whom the whole race was germinally included; From: The Philosophy of History, 1874, pp. 17 sqq. The Forum: Cardinal Egan's rebuke to Giuliani: important subtleties
by Phil Lawler special to CWNews.com May. 1, 2008 (CWNews.com) - In his public rebuke to Rudy Giuliani for improperly receiving Communion during Pope Benedict's visit to New York, Cardinal Edward Egan raised two subtle but very interesting points. First, the cardinal says that Giuliani should not receive the Eucharist because of his support for legal abortion; he does not base his argument on Giuliani's irregular marital status. Second, the cardinal reveals that he had reached a quiet agreement with Giuliani. The former New York mayor violated that agreement-- apparently for his own political purposes. But before discussing those rather subtle aspects of Cardinal Egan's message, let's begin with the obvious. Cardinal Egan deserves praise and thanks for his public statement, in which he shows himself to be a leader, a teacher, and a pastor of souls. By emphasizing the gravity of support for the legalized killing of the unborn, the cardinal takes a strong stand in defense of human life. Since Giuliani is not currently a candidate for political office, the cardinal's statement cannot be misinterpreted as a partisan gesture. Rather, he is using an opportunity to instruct the faithful. At the same time, the cardinal is protecting the Church from further scandal. And as a pastor he is showing his concern for Giuliani, who is endangering his own soul by receiving the Eucharist improperly. The cardinal's message should not be lost on countless other Catholics who are receiving Communion while in a state of serious sin; in that respect, too, his is a valuable pastoral statement. In all these respects, Cardinal Egan's statement stands in stark contrast to the official silence from Washington's Archbishop Donald Wuerl after several prominent pro-abortion Catholics-- most notably Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy-- received Communion during the papal Mass in that city. Although these prominent politicians had indicated beforehand that they planned to receive the Eucharist, the archbishop made no statement to discourage them or to indicate to the public that they would be receiving Communion in violation of Church law. A spokesman for the US bishops' conference issued only a lame statement: "People go to church and people go to Communion if they feel in their heart they are prepared to receive Communion.” After the fact, Archbishop Wuerl had another opportunity to clarify Church teaching. He remained silent, and his silence appeared to give consent. Perceptive reporters like John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter and Bob Novak of the Washington Post concluded that the net effect of the papal visit had been to encourage the notion that "pro-choice" Catholics are eligible to receive Communion-- a notion that the future Pope Benedict himself very clearly rejected during his exchange with American bishops in 2004. The public statement from Cardinal Egan, then, corrects the record and prevents the further dissemination of a very misleading and damaging perception about Catholic Church teaching and pastoral practice. For that reason, too, the cardinal deserves our thanks. But the value of Cardinal Egan's statement goes beyond that, for the two reasons mentioned above. Notice, in the text of the statement, the passage which I have highlighted here: The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God. Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind. Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion. I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York, and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding. While there is some debate among American bishops as to whether a pro-abortion politician should receive the Eucharist, there is no debate about Catholics who have divorced and remarried outside the Church. They are not eligible to receive Communion. Rudy Giuliani is divorced and remarried. Therefore he should not receive Communion. That logical and canonical argument is airtight. So it is noteworthy that Cardinal Egan does not invoke that argument. Instead he says that Giuliani should not receive Communion "because of his well-known support for abortion." Thus the cardinal's statement underlines the point that support for legal abortion is a grievous offense. More than that: By basing his argument on Giuliani's advocacy for abortion, Cardinal Egan has sharpened the contrast between his stand and the stand (or non-stand) taken by Archbishop Wuerl. If the cardinal had cited Giuliani's marital status as the factor that disqualified him, the argument would not have applied to Pelosi, Kerry, and Kennedy, all of whom are properly married (with annulments in place where appropriate) in the eyes of the Church. Notice, too, that Cardinal Egan mentions he "had an understanding" with Giuliani. Some American bishops have said that they think it would be improper to take the very public action of barring a prominent Catholic from the Eucharist. But the first step-- a private meeting with the erring individual-- need not be public. Cardinal Egan had taken that step. Evidently the cardinal had spoken quietly with Giuliani, hoping to avoid both a public confrontation and a public scandal. He had done his pastoral duty by warning Giuliani against receiving Communion; there was no urgent need, then for a public statement as long as the former mayor abided by their "understanding." When he was apprised of the cardinal's rebuke, Giuliani responded through a spokesman with a statement claiming that his Catholic faith "is a deeply personal matter and should remain confidential." But if he had really wanted to keep the matter confidential, he would have abided by his agreement from Cardinal Egan. Instead he received Communion at the very time when his action would receive the most widespread publicity. He richly deserved the cardinal's rebuke. New Exposé to Shed Light on Seventh-day Adventist Church Controversy Contact: Mary Champion, Remnant Publications, 517-279-1304 COLDWATER, Mich., May 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dwight Hall, president of Remnant Publications, a non-profit Christian publisher, announces the release of Dr. Herbert E. Douglass' A Fork in the Road, a powerful new exposé that chronicles a significant and controversial chapter in the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. A key eye-witness to the drama surrounding the publication of Seventh-day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine in 1957, Dr. Douglass shares his personal experience, and often provocative insights, with the backlash of the book and its continuing repercussions on church theology today. Says Dwight Hall, "Let there be no mistake: this isn't just a passive documentation of the events that followed Questions on Doctrine; it offers an important historical context from an insider's own experience in the crisis. It's a riveting read that asks and answers a lot of questions today's Adventist believers and thinkers are sure to have." Asked why he chose to tackle the topic after 50 years, Dr. Douglass responded, "Most, if not all, of the so-called 'dissident' groups of the last 45 years are direct results of the positions espoused by Questions on Doctrine on the atonement and the incarnation. Our church needs insight now into this complex history as it seeks not only healing but also growth in the years to come." Both informative and riveting, A Fork in the Road also shares evidence brought to light by Julius Nam and George Knight, who show the depth of criticism by those who were alarmed by the book's reformulation of Adventist theology—even as private letters and other evidences show how an important defender of Adventist theology was left to stand alone in the outcry. During his distinguished career, Dr. Herbert Douglass has served as a pastor, ministry president, college professor, and administrator. He is also the author of more than 13 books and numerous articles focusing on Christ, the great controversy, and the church. "And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand." Daniel 8:23-25"And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the god of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain." Daniel 11:36-39"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves. And said unto them, it is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:12-13In this issue of the Last Trumpet Newsletter, we will look with amazement at our rapidly changing nation and world. It is a world that is moving down the timeline toward eternity at what seems like breakneck speed as Bible prophecy is being fulfilled continually before our very eyes. There is a driving force behind the changes that are taking place, and the events of our time are not happening by mere chance. There are people in high places that want these things to happen and have the power to make them happen. We remember the words of the late President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who said regarding all events, "…If it happened, you can bet we planned it that way." The dark forces of the elite Luciferians, known as the Illuminati, have one primary objective in mind: they want to bring every human being under the power and control of their god, whom they call Lucifer, who is really Satan with his many guises. The evil one knows full well that to control people you must control their money and wealth. Satan also knows, as do his stooges in the high political and religious realms, that people are ultimately controlled by lies, because the truth makes them free. The Lord Jesus told us this in John 8:32 as follows: "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The people of the United States are being fed constant lies, and this has been happening for so long that the truth is unrecognizable to them. What better way to control people than to control their money, wealth, and even negative wealth, which is called debt, and to control them with an economy based on lies, deceit, and dishonesty by those in charge of that system. It is the perfect laboratory and working environment for Satan to create a monster whom he can inhabit, and who will control all people through controlled buying and selling with his mark. Once people believe a lie, they are under the control of that lie. We are warned of this in II Thessalonians 2:11-12 as follows: "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." The reason the economy of the United States is crumbling is because it is based on lies. We know that according to the Constitution of the United States, only gold and silver is lawful money. Paper currency has almost no intrinsic value. It costs the same amount to produce a one hundred dollar bill as it does to produce a one dollar bill. It is just paper and ink. The paper money is backed by nothing of real value and is by definition not money at all but legal tender. The first definition of tender is to offer in satisfaction of a debt. Thus, tender is an offer of something to excuse a debt rather than pay it. When paper "money" is passed around, nothing is ever legally paid, but it is a continual excusing of debt. Americans do not know what it is like to use real money. When we work, our employer gives us paper, and we excuse his debt for our time we gave him. We buy food and give paper currency to the grocer, and he excuses the debt for what we carry out of his store, and so on. The problems with this system are many. Governments can print more and more of this paper, and as they do, all existing paper currency becomes worth less and less, and prices go up. Paper currency or tender breeds inflation, recession, depression, and so on. It is what economists call the cyclical function. To make matters worse, it is not so much just the paper problem anymore. In this electronic age, money has been reduced to nothing more than electronic impulses in computers. All reference points to true value have been lost in the maze of the craftiness of illuministic banksters. The American people are all under the mass-hypnotic effect of thinking they have real money when they hold paper or a debit card. When values are suppositions and fictitious, they can constantly change, and they do. This would be impossible with the strict use of gold and silver. How bad is the situation? We now live in a time when one of the greatest commodities both bought and sold is massive debt. Credit card companies are completely destroying the lives of undisciplined people, and the banks are in collusion with them. It is a satanic complicity that is paving the way for the appearance of the antichrist himself. We know that our Lord Jesus went into the temple and tipped over the tables of the money changers and rebuked them sharply. Our Lord called the money changers thieves, because they forced the people to trade in their Roman coins for temple coins before they could give their tithes. The excuse is that Roman money had a graven image on it and was thus an idol and could not be used in the temple. The money changers, however, were glad to accept the Roman money at a low buy rate, and sell the people temple money at a high sell rate. This arbitrage produced a profit which angered the Almighty. We are now in a time of transition, and very soon the beast system will come into full view. The American people have already been corralled by this economic system, and they will soon find themselves branded as human cattle with the mark of the beast. I urge every reader of this newsletter to completely submit your life to the Lord Jesus and pray to Him. He will save your soul and watch over you to the very end. Do it now, while there is still a little time. It is later than you think! Assisted Suicide of the U.S. Economy! On January 30th, 2008, newspapers around the world featured a large picture of President Bush and Vice President Cheney with the headline "Bush sees no recession." In the picture, President Bush was squinting and smirking, and Cheney had his hands together in a Masonic signal and had a knowing smirk on his face. The event was the State of the Union Address. (1) Since that infamous speech, it has been one disaster after another in our economy. In January and February 2008, 152,000 jobs were lost, and in March 2008, an additional 80,000 jobs were lost. This is nearly a quarter-million jobs lost in the first quarter of the year of 2008. (2) With many banks facing serious meltdown, the Federal Reserve turned on the money pumps and auctioned $260 billion in short term loans to the banks. (3) Our national debt is now nearly nine and one-half trillion dollars and can now be measured with numbers so large that such numbers had heretofore been used only in astronomy calculations. The amount of debt is increasing almost exponentially. It is so bad that the Concord Coalition, a fiscal watchdog group, recently issued a report which stated, "The present rate of debt increase will leave a total shortfall of 72.3 trillion dollars in Social Security and Medicare alone by the year 2080." (4) This deficit for only these two departments would be eight times our current national debt! Even our current debt is unsustainable. On April 1st, 2008, a British newspaper carried the following serious headline, and it was no April fool: "USA 2008: The Great Depression." It seems like the other countries of the world know what we are facing, but our own government just has not told us yet. A subheadline in that newspaper said, "Food stamps are the symbol of poverty in the U.S. In the era of the credit crunch, a record 28 million Americans are now relying on them to survive - a sure sign the world's richest country faces economic crisis." (5) The signs of real trouble are everywhere. On April 3rd, 2008, the price of corn hit a record $6.00 per bushel. The price of corn has shot up 30 percent, and stockpiles have dwindled as the rest of the world bids high for our own corn. Ethanol companies also make higher demands to turn corn into alcohol for fuel. (6) Here let it be noted that it takes one and one-half gallons of other fuel to produce one gallon of ethanol. According to United Nations' reports, food prices worldwide have increased 35 percent just last year. Dairy prices increased 80 percent and grain increased 42 percent worldwide in 2007. (7) In many parts of the world, food riots are already taking place. (8) The price of common wheat has increased 50 percent since last August and is now listed as a precious commodity. A South Dakota trader, Vince Boddicker, said, "Anyone who tells you they've seen something like this before is a liar." (9) In addition to the food crisis, the housing problem is completely out of control. Homeowner equity is now at its lowest point since 1945 as houses and properties are devalued and countless millions default on their mortgages. Currently, nearly nine million homeowners in the United States have zero equity. (10) The rate of foreclosures on home mortgages in the United States increased to 79 percent in 2007. Two and two-tenths million homeowners lost their homes last year! (11) Homes that were once beautiful are now stripped bare, either by the people as they left them or by vandals and thieves who came later. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently featured the headline "Cities drowning in sea of stripped homes." Even the aluminum siding has been torn off from homes by thieves and sold for scrap metal. (12) Financial institutions in America are now facing the writedown and loss of one trillion dollars. This vast amount is equal to the entire economy of Russia. It is also more than double the market value of Exxon Mobil Corporation and about nine times the combined wealth of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. (13) What is happening to our erstwhile great nation? Why are ninety-three major corporations at risk of defaulting on $53 billion in debt? (14) Why are gasoline prices as high as $5.40 per gallon in some areas of our country? (15) Even $3.00 per gallon is an obscene price when you consider that only seven years ago it was 99 cents per gallon. In recent days we have seen major disruption in scheduled flights by major airlines such as American Airlines. Over 2,000 American Airlines flights stranded nearly one-quarter million people due to the airline's non-compliance with FAA inspection rules. (16) Why did such a situation of noncompliance suddenly arise? We know that all major airlines are in deep financial trouble, and high fuel prices are making things continually worse. We also know that experiments are being conducted on segments of unwitting human guinea pigs to see how they behave in crowded and inconvenient situations where they are herded together and shuffled around. As the powers of antichrist rise, we will see more of this sort of thing. On February 24th, 2008, a story appeared in the mainstream news media with the headline "U.S. must adjust to the arrival of Asian century." The story commented on statements that were made at the most recent G-8 Summit. Here are some of the statements made at that summit: "We are entering a new era of world history; the end of Western domination and the arrival of the Asian century…..Let us focus on the new sunrise organizations in Asia…..the changes will be dramatic and happen quickly……As new Asian powers emerge, the architecture of the world order will have to be re-engineered…….Asia is now home to the world's fastest-growing economies which have accumulated more than three trillion dollars in foreign reserves." Lawrence Summers, an economist who was once the U.S. Treasury Secretary, had this to say at the summit meeting, "During the industrial revolution, the standard of living rose at a rate of maybe 50% during a person's lifespan. Asia's current growth rate represents an unprecedented 100-fold, or 10,000%, rise in the standards of living during one lifetime." (17) An increase of ten thousand percent in the Asian standard of living? If you have ever wondered where the wealth of America has gone, you have your answer! Indeed, the kings of the East have risen up! On the 13th day of March 2008, a rare "closed door" session was held by the United States House of Representatives. It was only the fourth time in the history of the United States that the House of Representatives closed the doors and met in absolute secrecy. Thus, those who were elected to represent the people of the United States would not allow the people to know what they were meeting about. Furthermore, House Rule XVII, clause 9, forbids the Representatives from revealing what was discussed. The penalty for leaking such information includes loss of seniority, fine, reprimand, censure, or expulsion! What went on behind those closed doors where every member was sworn to absolute secrecy, to always conceal and never reveal? We know that the only reason for secrecy is to hide evil. The news media said almost nothing about the secret conclave, but it was mentioned only that one of the items being discussed was the new surveillance techniques that are going to used by the U.S. Government to watch every American. (19) After diligently searching for more information, I finally found what I was looking for in an Australian newspaper. The story appeared in Australia.TO from Brisbane, Australia. The article stated that ABC News via WCPO confirmed that Congress members were forbidden to talk about what went on in their secret meeting. Several of the Representatives, however, were so furious and concerned about the future of the country that they began leaking info. Here are some of the things that were reportedly leaked out regarding the secret meeting: Discussion regarding the imminent collapse of the U.S. economy to occur by September 2008 - The imminent collapse of the U.S. Government finances by February 2009 - The possibility of Civil War inside the United States as a result of the collapse - The advance round-ups of "insurgent U.S. citizens" likely to move against the government - The detention of those rounded up at REX 84 camps constructed throughout the United States - The possibility of public retaliation against members of Congress for the collapses - The location of safe facilities for members of Congress and their families to reside during massive civil unrest - the necessary and unavoidable merger of the United States with Canada and Mexico - The issuance of a new currency called the AMERO for all three nations as an economic solution. (20) Obviously, there is no documentary proof for the above as the meetings were secret. The information, however, does fit the profile of what is going on around us. Our Almighty Saviour is ultimately in charge. Time will tell if these things are so, and time is running out! The Curses of War! As the United States of America moves ever deeper into poverty, the foreign wars continue on. The war in Iraq is now costing $5,000 per second! (21) Our military is becoming ever-more strained by this protracted war, and security within the United States is being seriously compromised. At the end of last year, the Associated Press reported that hundreds of our F-15 fighter jets had to be grounded because of dangerous structural defects. Our nation had to rely on Canada to stand ready to defend our country as 450 of our fighters were unusable. (22) On February 1st, 2008, Arnold Punaro, the Chairman of the Commission on the National Guard and Reserves, stated the following: "There is an appalling gap in readiness for homeland defense." He flatly stated that the military is not ready for an attack within the United States. (23) Late last year, our U.S. Army proudly displayed its new European-designed helicopters, for which they spent 2.6 billion dollars. These helicopters have now proven to be nearly worthless, because they cannot fly when temperatures are above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. When the air outside is over 80 degrees, the cockpit temperatures in the UH-72A Lakota exceed 104 degrees, causing the communications and navigations systems to shut down. (24) It seems that so many mistakes are being made, and they are never in our favor. On March 25th, the Associated Press also reported that the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., made a serious error regarding an arms shipment. Taiwan ordered helicopter batteries but were mistakenly sent electrical fuses designed for intercontinental ballistic missiles. (25) There is a continual and general deterioration in almost every endeavor of the United States. On two occasions in 2007, American astronauts were allowed to blast off into space after turning up drunk for the launches. NASA admitted that there was heavy use of alcohol within hours of the countdown. This was originally reported in the magazine Aviation Week and Space Technology. (26) We know that the present wars and rumors of war are all leading to a devastating World War III in the Middle East. On March 27th, 2008, Egypt signed a Nuclear Pact with Russia. The Russians have agreed to build nuclear reactors in Egypt. (27) The tension in that region of the world is constant and ever-increasing. Other strange things are happening in the Middle East. The vast wealth and prosperity of the Arab and Moslem world is displayed in amazing ways. Near Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a massive new indoor ski resort has been built in the desert area where temperatures reach 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The self-contained resort makes its own snow and covers an area of nearly one-quarter million square feet. It is twenty-five stories high and features five lighted ski runs of one-quarter mile each. It also features a ski lift and accommodates 1,500 people. This massive structure also has two large restaurants and a snow park with a snow cavern. It is one of the modern wonders of the world. (28) This is just one example explaining why gas prices are so high at the pump. In another amazing story, featured in the London Daily Mail, we are told of a new ten billion dollar desert tower that is being built along with a new city near the Red Sea port of Jeddah. The tower will be twice as high as anything man has ever built, and it will reach nearly one mile into the sky: 5,250 feet to be exact. The city and tower is being built by a Saudi Arabian company called Kingdom Holdings. The news media is calling it the Tower of Babel; and from its top, visitors will be able to see the Middle East, North Africa, and the Indian Ocean. (29) When I saw this article regarding the new city and tower, I immediately thought of Genesis 11:4, which reads as follows: "And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." The original Tower of Babel that we read about in the Bible was a symbol of one-world government. Almighty God revealed His disapproval by confounding the languages, and He stopped the building of that tower. It is no coincidence that in these last of the last days another city and tower is being built in the Middle East, and it is happening during a time when the world is in the process of uniting into one collective unit to be governed by an antichrist! Pope Benedict XVI - The Pilgrim of Peace? On April 15th, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI will arrive in New York City for a six-day stay. America's largest city is now a center of activity as preparation is being made to greet the one who allows himself to be called "The Holy Father." How can any discerning person call this man "Holy Father" when Jesus clearly commanded in Matthew 23:9, "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your father, which is in heaven." The fact remains, however, that most people have been trained and conditioned to ignore truth. New York City has now become a market place for Benedict XVI relics, including sacred coffee mugs, medallions, key chains, bumper stickers, and rosaries. One Catholic bookstore owner stated that this is the "coming of the Holy Father", and he has on display a life-size cardboard image of the Pope. Lines of people come by to kiss the ring on the image. (30) On the 18th day of April, which is thirteen days before the occult witches' high cross-quarter sabat of Beltaine, the Pope will address the United Nations, and he is being presented as the Pilgrim of Peace. (31) Benedict XVI, who was known among his Nazi friends in earlier times as Herr Ratsinger, was invited to the United Nations by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. The Pope will be calling for unity among all religions. It is also noteworthy to mention that the Pope's real name, Ratsinger, adds up to 666 on the English alpha-numeric scale. I must also mention that this former Nazi and member of the Hitler Youth forces will be offering a prayer ritual at Ground Zero, the site of the erstwhile twin towers of the World Trade Center. This will take place on April 20th, which is the birthday of the Pope's childhood hero, Adolph Hitler. (32) I remember years ago when a previous Pope went to Chicago and said a mass on a platform overlooking Lake Michigan. The news media gushed forth praise for this man and pointed out the fact that while "his Holiness" was in the crime-ridden city of Chicago, the crime rate dropped to practically nothing. They attributed the amazing statistics to the Pope's presence in the city. In reality, the facts reveal that the reason for the sudden drop in crime was that nearly all of organized crime, the mobs, gangs, and thugs, Mafia, and so on consisted of devout Roman Catholics; and they took time off from their work to see the Pope. Perilous Times are Upon Us! Everywhere we look, we see the signs of the times as foretold by the Lord Jesus and His Apostles. Never have such large segments of society been in such a depraved condition. Recently, the Hollywood Reporter featured a story with the headline "Fans shed blood for 'Moonlight'." The story tells how 3,000 fans of the vampire television drama "Moonlight" are so determined to keep the program on the air that they are willing to give their blood for it. The 3,000 fans have teamed up with the Red Cross to give one pint of blood to keep the program going, even though the CBS network announced that the program is in no danger of being discontinued. The fans are so fanatical that they want to give the blood anyway as a celebration ritual to welcome the program's return on April 25th, 2008. (33) In a recent story that appeared in the London Daily Mail, abortions are on the increase in England with over 200,000 babies being killed each year. As bad as that is, we were in for another sad shock to find out that 1,300 women admitted they had five abortions each. (34) It is terrible beyond description to think that entire families were murdered by human sacrifice as 1,300 mothers became serial killers of their five children. Never has there been a time such as this! Another story from England revealed that children as young as six years old have been treated for alcoholism. One infirmary alone treated 175 such cases of these very young potential alcoholics. (35) Truly, our Lord is coming soon! Warning Cries in the Creation! The very creation of God is sounding the alarm of the last days before the return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Earthquakes continue to increase everywhere around the world with both frequency and intensity. During the first ten days of April 2008, scientists recorded a swarm of over 600 earthquakes off the coast of central Oregon. Some of the quakes registered over 5.0 on the Richter scale. The scientists admitted they are puzzled. Dr. Robert Dziak, a geophysicist at Oregon State University, stated that such swarms of quakes only occur in the vicinity of a volcano, and there is no volcano in the area. It is believed that there is a major shifting of the Pacific and North American plates of the earth's crust. (36) On March 26th, 2008, another large piece of the continent of Antarctica broke off. The piece was seven times larger than Manhattan. (37) Major shifting, such as has not been seen before, is going on under the earth. Tornadoes have also been tearing through many areas of the United States in record-breaking numbers and doing vast amounts of damage. Here let it be noted that the three-year average for tornadoes in the United States for the month of January is 34. In January 2008, there were 136 powerful tornadoes. The February average for three years was 25, but this February 2008, there were 232. (38) Is the Almighty God warning this nation to repent? Most assuredly, He is! Strange and amazing things continue to happen in space. Galaxies continue to be gobbled up by black holes, stars are exploding in record numbers, and now, to the shock of astronomers everywhere, the NASA Mars rover named "Spirit" sent back pictures from the surface of Mars with the perfect image of a woman sitting on a rock with both arms outstretched. Headlines refer to her as the "Lady in Red." The experts have no explanation for this clear image. (39) Red is the color of harlotry, and is this another sign in the heavens? In closing, I want to remind everyone to pray without ceasing and to dedicate and consecrate your life to the Lord. The time is at hand. I also continue to welcome your prayer requests as our teams of intercessors are waiting to give them personal attention. I also offer my sincerest thanks to all of you who support this endtime prophetic ministry. I pray you will be blessed for your faithfulness. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. David J. Meyer Acknowledgements 01. Melbourne Herald Sun, Jan. 30, 2008, by Stefanie Balogh, Melbourne, Australia. 02.
