The Adventist Pastor That Preaches On Sundays

The Adventist Pastor That Preaches On Sundays

Pastor George Shaver loves sharing Jesus with people. As a committed Seventh-day Adventist, he believes and preaches the Three Angels Message, but in a way that people see Jesus in him.

Shaver ministers to four Adventist churches in South Dakota Yankton, Mitchell, Hurley, and Platte. He drives over 200 hundred miles just to go around his district once. But he is never too busy to respond to an opportunity to share Jesus.

In the town of Parker, the local Methodist Church eventually found itself without a minister. Attendance had dwindle to just four members. Instead of searching for a minister of their own denomination, they had noticed Pastor Shaver’s Christlike love for others and his knowledge of Scripture, and thought he could help them grow.

They asked him: “Would you be willing to serve as our pastor?”

“Sure,” he said, “but I do have some limitations.”

“What are they?” they wondered.

“I believe the Bible teaches 28 major lessons. That is what I know, and that is what I can teach you,” he shared, thinking about our fundamental beliefs.

The Methodist members were happy to accept his “limitations,” and off to the church they go each week to learn the Bible from their new pastor, the Adventist minister. Attendance is now ten, and growing.

But it doesn’t end there. The United Church of Christ of Springfield heard about this wonderful Adventist minister, and they also approached him. They were in transition, waiting for their new pastor. They wondered if Pastor Shaver could come and preach to them on Sundays until the new pastor arrived. Of course, he was happy to oblige.

And what are the prospects for the Methodist Church? Shaver shared that he is hoping for the group to grow to 100, and then, they’ll become an Adventist Church!

Pastor Shaver lives by a simple rule of life: to serve Jesus with all his heart. “There is nothing more exciting,” he says, “than to minister to people, and to see them make decisions for Jesus.”

This can happen with you too. With Christ, all things are possible (Phil 4:13).

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Matthew 25:1-13.

1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

3They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

7Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
.

In the parable, all the ten virgins went out to meet the bridegroom. All had lamps and vessels for oil. For a time there was seen no difference between them. So with the church that lives just before Christ's second coming. All have a knowledge of the Scriptures. All have heard the message of Christ's near approach, and confidently expect His appearing. But as in the parable, so it is now. A time of waiting intervenes, faith is tried; and when the cry is heard, "Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him," many are unready. They have no oil in their vessels with their lamps. They are destitute of the Holy Spirit.

Without the Spirit of God a knowledge of His word is of no avail. The theory of truth, unaccompanied by the Holy Spirit, cannot quicken the soul or sanctify the heart. One may be familiar with the commands and promises of the Bible; but unless the Spirit of God sets the truth home, the character will not be transformed. Without the enlightenment of the Spirit, men will not be able to

Page 411
distinguish truth from error, and they will fall under the masterful temptations of Satan.
The class represented by the foolish virgins are not hypocrites. They have a regard for the truth, they have advocated the truth, they are attracted to those who believe the truth; but they have not yielded themselves to the Holy Spirit's working. They have not fallen upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and permitted their old nature to be broken up. This class are represented also by the stony-ground hearers. They receive the word with readiness, but they fail of assimilating its principles. Its influence is not abiding. The Spirit works upon man's heart, according to his desire and consent implanting in him a new nature; but the class represented the foolish virgins have been content with a superficial work. They do not know God. They have not studied His character; they have not held communion with Him; therefore they do not know how to trust, how to look and live. Their service to God degenerates into a form. "They come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as My people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness." Eze. 33:31. The apostle Paul points out that this will be the special characteristic of those who live just before Christ's second coming. He says, "In the last days perilous times shall come: for men shall be lovers of their own selves; . . . lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." 2 Tim. 3:1-5.

This is the class that in time of peril are found crying, Peace and safety. They lull their hearts into security, and dream not of danger. When startled from their lethargy, they discern their destitution, and entreat others to supply their lack; but in spiritual things no man can make up

Page 412
another's deficiency. The grace of God has been freely offered to every soul. The message of the gospel has been heralded, "Let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." Rev. 22:17. But character is not transferable. No man can believe for another. No man can receive the Spirit for another. No man can impart to another the character which is the fruit of the Spirit's working. "Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it [the land], as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness." Eze. 14:20.
It is in a crisis that character is revealed. When the earnest voice proclaimed at midnight, "Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him," and the sleeping virgins were roused from their slumbers, it was seen who had made preparation for the event. Both parties were taken unawares; but one was prepared for the emergency, and the other was found without preparation. So now, a sudden and unlooked-for calamity, something that brings the soul face to face with death, will show whether there is any real faith in the promises of God. It will show whether the soul is sustained by grace. The great final test comes at the close of human probation, when it will be too late for the soul's need to be supplied.

The ten virgins are watching in the evening of this earth's history. All claim to be Christians. All have a call, a name, a lamp, and all profess to be doing God's service. All apparently wait for Christ's appearing. But five are unready. Five will be found surprised, dismayed, outside the banquet hall.

At the final day, many will claim admission to Christ's kingdom, saying, "We have eaten and drunk in Thy presence, and Thou hast taught in our streets." "Lord, Lord,

Page 413
have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?" But the answer is, "I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from Me." Luke 13:26, 27; Matt. 7:22. In this life they have not entered into fellowship with Christ; therefore they know not the language of heaven, they are strangers to its joy. "What man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." 1 Cor. 2:11.
Saddest of all words that ever fell on mortal ear are those words of doom, "I know you not." The fellowship of the Spirit, which you have slighted, could alone make you one with the joyous throng at the marriage feast. In that scene you cannot participate. Its light would fall on blinded eyes, its melody upon deaf ears. Its love and joy could awake no chord of gladness in the world-benumbed heart. You are shut out from heaven by your own unfitness for its companionship.

We cannot be ready to meet the Lord by waking when

Page 414
the cry is heard, "Behold, the Bridegroom!" and then gathering up our empty lamps to have them replenished. We cannot keep Christ apart from our lives here, and yet be fitted for His companionship in heaven.
In the parable the wise virgins had oil in their vessels with their lamps. Their light burned with undimmed flame through the night of watching. It helped to swell the illumination for the bridegroom's honor. Shining out in the darkness, it helped to illuminate the way to the home of the bridegroom, to the marriage feast.

So the followers of Christ are to shed light into the darkness of the world. Through the Holy Spirit, God's word is a light as it becomes a transforming power in the life of the receiver. By implanting in their hearts the principles of His word, the Holy Spirit develops in men the attributes of God. The light of His glory--His character--is to shine forth in His followers. Thus they are to glorify God, to lighten the path to the Bridegroom's home, to the city of God, to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

The coming of the bridegroom was at midnight--the darkest hour. So the coming of Christ will take place in the darkest period of this earth's history. The days of Noah and Lot pictured the condition of the world just before the coming of the Son of man. The Scriptures pointing forward to this time declare that Satan will work with all power and "with all deceivableness of unrighteousness." 2 Thess. 2:9, 10. His working is plainly revealed by the rapidly increasing darkness, the multitudinous errors, heresies, and delusions of these last days. Not only is Satan leading the world captive, but his deceptions are leavening the professed churches of our Lord Jesus Christ. The great apostasy will develop into darkness deep as midnight, impenetrable as sackcloth of hair. To God's people it will

Page 415
be a night of trial, a night of weeping, a night of persecution for the truth's sake. But out of that night of darkness God's light will shine.

Ring the bells of Heaven

Ring the bells of Heaven! There is joy today,
For a soul, returning from the wild!
See, the Father meets him out upon the way,
Welcoming His weary, wandering child.

Refrain

Glory! Glory! How the angels sing:
Glory! Glory! How the loud harps ring!
’Tis the ransomed army, like a mighty sea,
Pealing forth the anthem of the free.

Ring the bells of Heaven! There is joy today,
For the wanderer now is reconciled;
Yes, a soul is rescued from his sinful way,
And is born anew a ransomed child.

Refrain

Ring the bells of Heaven! Spread the feast today!
Angels, swell the glad triumphant strain!
Tell the joyful tidings, bear it far away!
For a precious soul is born again.

Refrain

SUSPECT IS ARMY PSYCHIATRIST WHO WORKED AT WALTER REED

'Horrific outburst of violence'
An Army psychiatrist allegedly opened fire Thursday in a crowded medical building at Fort Hood, Tex., killing at least 13 people and wounding dozens more.

ashington Post Staff Writer Friday, November 6, 2009; 10:04 AM

The Arlington-born Army psychiatrist suspected of killing 13 people and wounding 30 0thers in a shooting rampage on a military base remains hospitalized and on a ventilator, officials said Friday morning.

Col. John Rossi declined at a news conference to speculate on possible motives for the attack inside a crowded medical building at Fort Hood, Tex., believed to be the largest mass shooting ever to occur on a U.S. military base.

As of 7:30 a.m. Friday, 28 people remain hospitalized, all in stable condition, Army officials said. About half had undergone surgery.

Nidal M. Hasan, 39, a major who had made a career in the military and was trained to treat soldiers under stress, allegedly fired a pair of pistols, one of them semiautomatic, in the soldier readiness facility, authorities said. All around him, soldiers who had been waiting to see doctors scattered or dropped to the floor. Hasan and a civilian policewoman exchanged fire, authorities said. Both were hit. Officials said they have not been able to interrogate Hasan -- a devout Muslim born to Palestinian immigrants and raised in the Arlington and Roanoke areas of Virginia -- because of his medical condition. They have not spoken to his relatives either, Rossi said.
Rossi said the rampage and response lasted about 30 minutes. The soldiers in the building were performing routine administrative tasks and were not armed, he said. Only police officers and the response team had weapons they could use to stop the shooter.

He said an investigation will determine how the shooter brought guns onto the base, where, like at all U.S. military installations, firearms are kept secured unless they are needed for training or security work. Soldiers, like civilians, are allowed to maintain privately owned weapons in accordance with local gun laws, Rossi said. But they must register those weapons on post. He said investigators are still clarifying the origin of the guns used in the shooting.

"Random checks" are performed on vehicles entering the Fort Hood, to check for weapons or other contraband, Rossi said. But, he acknowledged, it is possible that the shooter "could have just brought it onto the base."

Rossi said officials do not believe there were any additional people involved in planning or carrying out the rampage.

The attack erupted shortly after lunchtime on the sprawling complex northeast of Austin that has absorbed more than 500 fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan, more than any other base. When the gunfire stopped, soldiers schooled in battlefield medicine ripped their clothes to make tourniquets and bandages.

Someone hustled to seal off an auditorium in the same building where 138 troops were marking their graduation from college. Sirens typically used to warn of tornados sweeping across the plains alerted residents, schools locked down and the Fort Hood community struggled to comprehend what had just happened.

In the aftermath, a string of unanswered questions remained about the accused shooter's motives, his background and whether the military had evidence that might have shown he posed a risk to his colleagues.

Letter: Lies obscured in health care debate

Chico Enterprise-Record
Posted: 11/04/2009 12:00:00 AM PST

Modernize the following quote from Joseph Goebbels and replace "state" with "Democrats": "The lie can be maintained only for such time as the Democrats can shield the people from the political, economic and or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the Democrats to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the Democrats." That defines their approach to the health care debate and the party itself.

Those that have been critical of proposed plan have been demonized. Real reforms have been offered, allowing health insurance companies to compete across state lines, tort reform, tax credits and insurance collectives, all have been dismissed by the Democrats.

Instead, Democrats offered 1,990 pages of new government bureaucracy, obfuscating the costs and benefits with legalese. The truth, the Canadian and UK "government options" are failing. The Canadian Medical Association reports a cost of $14.8 billion in lost productivity due to rationed care and waiting lists. According to the CMA, Rationing as a method of allocating health care services is an abysmal failure, leading to irreversible damage, addiction to pain killers and depression. In the UK, 10 percent of the waiting list patients are on extended sick leave. Finland calculates the cost of waiting can exceed the cost of treatment.

Democrats have a solution for this too — provide end-of-life counseling, euthanasia and tax the evil rich.

Latest House Health Care Bill Still Contains Illegal Alien Loophole

Written by FAIRUS.org
Thursday, 05 November 2009 18:02

Help FAIR Ensure That Illegal Aliens Won't Be Able to Access Taxpayer-Funded Benefits!

After months of debate, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is finally ready to bring the health care reform bill to the House floor. As FAIR has reported, this bill contains a suspect verification mechanism that will almost certainly allow illegal aliens to game the system and access taxpayer-subsidized health care benefits created under the bill.

Fortunately, this problem can still be fixed. On Friday, November 6 at 2:00 P.M., the House Rules Committee will meet to decide what amendments will be considered when the health care bill is brought to the House floor for debate.

FAIR has learned that true immigration reformers in the House are working to strengthen the verification system in the bill and close the illegal alien loopholes that exist. Reps. Joe Wilson (R-SC), Dean Heller (R-NV), and Nathan Deal (R-GA) are planning to file an amendment with the Rules Committee that would help ensure that illegal aliens will not be able to access taxpayer-funded subsidies created by the bill.

But this isn't the only problem with the House health care bill. In addition to the weak verification provisions, this legislation:

Waives the five-year waiting period for accessing federal means-tested benefits for legal immigrants with respect to the taxpayer-funded affordability credits created by the bill. This means that legal immigrants can, rather than waiting five-years to apply for public benefits as they are required to do for other federal benefits, begin collecting subsidies under the bill immediately upon their arrival in the United States. This would violate the long-standing policy in the United States that immigrants should not become "public charges" and, as a result, burdens to American taxpayers. FAIR has determined that an identical provision in a previous version of the House health care bill would cost American taxpayers at least $33.8 billion.

Allows illegal aliens to access the "Exchange" created under the bill. At this exchange, individuals can either enroll in the so-called "public option," or choose to purchase a private health insurance plan. This means that the House health care bill would only encourage more illegal immigration and would allow illegal aliens to access a public health insurance plan backed by the federal government and American taxpayers.

Once again, however, there are true immigration reformers working to fix these provisions in the bill. In addition to the provisions that would strengthen verification, the Wilson-Heller-Deal amendment will also reinstate the five-year waiting period for legal immigrants with respect to the affordability credit. Furthermore, FAIR has learned from Capitol Hill sources that another amendment will likely be offered to prohibit illegal aliens from accessing the "Exchange."

But filing these amendments with the Rules Committee is only the first step. These true immigration reformers need our help to ensure that the Rules Committee approves these two critical amendments so that they will each get a vote on the floor of the House - a vote that they certainly deserve! Here's what you can do:

Call House leadership and the Members of the Rules Committee and tell them:

You support the Wilson-Heller-Deal amendment, which would: (1) prevent illegal aliens from accessing taxpayer-funded subsidies under the bill by strengthening the verification system; and (2) reinstate the five-year waiting period for legal immigrants with respect to the affordability credit.

You support any amendment that would prohibit illegal aliens from accessing the "Exchange" created under the bill.

You expect the Rules Committee to ensure that these important amendments get the vote that they deserve on the House floor, and you won't accept any underhanded efforts to block these amendments in the Rules Committee.

'Kill the bill,' protesters target health care

Demonstrators chant on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, during a Republican health Care reform rally. (AP Photo/Jose Luis Magana)

By LAURIE KELLMAN (AP) – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON — Chanting "Kill the bill," thousands of conservatives incensed over the Democrats' health care overhaul protested at the Capitol on Thursday, arguing that the legislation amounts to a government takeover of the nation's medical system.

The crowd, invited on national television by Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., was staunchly anti-government — "Politicians lie, people die," read one sign — but loudly cheered the House Republicans who hosted the event. The protest attracted many of the so-called Tea Party demonstrators angry with increased spending and an expanded government role under the Obama administration.

"This bill is the greatest threat to freedom that I have seen," House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio told the crowd.

"We're not going to leave this Hill until we kill this bill," declared Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

That's highly unlikely. House Democrats hope to pass the sweeping legislation on Saturday, buoyed by endorsements on Thursday from the American Medical Association and the AARP, the powerful seniors lobby. President Barack Obama makes a final appeal to Democrats during a rare visit to the Capitol Friday.

Republican leaders controlled their event, focusing on what they said were the flaws in the Democratic bill, as they distanced themselves from Bachmann's invitation.

On Oct. 30, she invited viewers of Fox News to Washington to roam House office buildings and confront lawmakers.

"I'd love to have every one of your viewers join me so that we can go up and down through the halls," Bachmann said. "Find members of Congress, look at the whites of their eyes and say, 'Don't take away my health care.'"

Republicans have offered a slimmed-down health care bill that focuses on reducing costs rather than increasing coverage for millions of uninsured Americans. At the rally on the West Front of the Capitol, they mocked the 1,990-page Democratic bill, bound in a gold cord, on the corner of the lectern. It was so heavy, at one point it thunked to the ground.

The crowd, including many older Americans, carried placards that ranged from pithy — "Free health care isn't free" — to harsh.

"Ken-ya Trust Obama?" said one, referencing the president's African roots and claims by some that he wasn't born in the United States.

One protester carried a sign reading, "Bury Obamacare with Kennedy," a reference to Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., who died of brain cancer this past summer.

The demonstrators came to Washington by plane, bus and other means to send a message to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., as they press ahead with health care legislation.

"It's upsetting because of where we've come from to where we are today, to see our freedom eroding," said Ben Fourman, 72, of Farmingdale, N.J. The retiree wore a T-shirt that said, "Liberty equals limited government."

Actors Jon Voight and John Radcliffe, who played Cliff on the comedy series "Cheers," attended but the real star was Bachmann.

"We want Michele! We want Michele," the crowd chanted as she took the microphone.

Bachmann, a favorite of conservatives for her colorful rhetoric, issued a reality check about the bill's outsized chances of passing. But she added a dash of optimism gleaned from Republican victories on Election Day.

"Kill the bill! Kill the bill!" the crowd chanted.

"Yes, that's exactly what you're going to tell them," said Bachmann.

Capitol Police arrested a dozen anti-abortion protesters in the hall outside Pelosi's office in the Cannon House Office Building.

Elsewhere, Siler City, N.C., resident Paul Kaufman and nine family members stopped by the offices of Reps. Mel Watt, D-N.C., and Walter Jones, R-N.C.

"I feel like I'm defending my freedom. I'm defending my rights," Kaufman said, adding that he identified with a sign he saw at the rally that said "I love my country, but I'm afraid of my government."

Associated Press writer Ann Sanner contributed to this report.

12 Dead in Fort Hood Shooting Spree

12 Dead in Fort Hood Shooting SpreeAOL News
posted: 3 MINUTES AGO

(Nov. 5) -- A soldier opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood in Texas in a rampage that left 12 people dead, including the gunman, and more than 30 others injured, military officials said.

The gunman was killed and two other suspects were in custody, Army Lt. Gen. Bob Cone said.

He said all three were soldiers.

"We've had a terrible tragedy here at Fort Hood today," Cone told reporters.

Military officials said they did not know the motive for shooting spree.

In Washington, President Barack Obama called the rampage "a horrific outburst of violence."

The shooting occurred at 1:30 p.m. local time at the Soldier Readiness Center, where deploying soldiers are processed.

"There were two weapons that the primary shooter had and both were handguns," Cone said.
Local police shot the suspect dead. A civilian Fort Hood police officer was among those who died.
Earlier reports said another shooting incident may have occurred at the Howze Theater on the base where a graduation ceremony was taking place. It was not immediately clear whether the other two suspects were believed to have taken part in shootings or to suspected of having some other kind of involvement in a conspiracy.

The number of wounded totaled 31. They were being taken to three area hospital, including Darnall Army Medical Center and Scott & White Memorial Hospital.

The base, located halfway between Austin and Waco, was placed on lockdown. That includes nine schools located there. Fort Hood is home to 33,000 people. It is the largest military base in the country.

SPECIAL DOCUMENT FROM THE VATICAN (1997-2002)

The Catholic Plan to Evangelize the Seventh-day Adventists:

PROJECT:

"The Most Desirable Sectarian Group"

MAIN POINT:

"To evangelize the Seventh-day Adventists with the true gospel,

constitutes the greatest gain of the Catholic Church to return the Protestants to Rome."

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To infiltrate among the Adventists. ideas, projects that could aid in bringing about a Catholic-Adventist closeness.

  2. Make concessions that would tend to bring together Catholic thinking among the Adventist.

  3. To look for, analyze, with the Seventh-day Adventists common objectives for .evangelization.

  4. To dismember mistaken paradigms that the Adventists have about the Roman Catholic Church.

  5. To demonstrate to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. that its origin as a church has no biblical basis.

  6. To demonstrate to the Seventh-day Adventists the falsehood of the writings of Ellen White.

  7. To demonstrate to the Seventh-day Adventists how prejudician (dangerous) to World peace, are there positions about the Pope, the Virgin Mary and Sunday as the day of rest.

  8. To point out to the Seventh-day Adventists that their church has the highest level of a Apostasy among the Protestants, due to the theological shakings that characterized it.

  9. To bare before the world the steps that the Adventist Church has taken. Through its legitimate leaders toward the Catholics and ecumenism.

  10. That the Seventh-day Adventist understand that not to unite with Catholics and Protestant, to search for world peace together, they would be blamed for all the evils and/or disasters that may befall the world.

New York City

New York City

God has not executed His wrath without mercy. His hand is stretched out still. His message must be given in Greater New York. The people must be shown how it is possible for God, by a touch of His hand, to destroy the property they have gathered together against the last great day.--3MR 310, 311 (1902). {LDE 112.3}

I have no light in particular in regard to what is coming on New York, only that I know that one day the great buildings there will be thrown down by the turning and overturning of God's power. . . . Death will come in all places. This is why I am so anxious for our cities to be warned.--RH July 5, 1906. {LDE 112.4}

On one occasion, when in New York City, I was in the night season called upon to behold buildings rising story after story toward heaven. These buildings were warranted to be fireproof, and they were erected to glorify their owners and builders. . . . {LDE 113.1}

The scene that next passed before me was an alarm of fire. Men looked at the lofty and supposedly fireproof buildings and said: "They are perfectly safe." But these buildings were consumed as if made of pitch. The fire engines could do nothing to stay the destruction. The firemen were unable to operate the engines.--9T 12, 13 (1909). {LDE 113.2}

Con man in Mont. jail deal says he's broke

By MATTHEW BROWN, AP

posted: 5 DAYS 4 HOURS

BILLINGS, Mont. -The California con man who failed in his bid to take over an empty Montana jail testified Friday that he is out of money, does not have the corporate backing he once claimed and even struggles to pay rent on his apartment.
Michael Hilton appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court for a hearing in a 2000 civil judgment against him now estimated at $700,000.

Previously, he insisted in multiple interviews that his bid to take over a 464-bed jail in rural Hardin had backing from deep-pocketed security industry investors who wanted to remain anonymous.

But Hilton testified Friday that he raised just $100,000 from four investors — and that money has since run dry.

With no other job, Hilton said he has dismissed his few employees and is now four months behind on his rent.

"I'm out of the game. I'm done," he said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press following his court appearance.

"All the expenses — the payroll, the rent, traveling — I paid all these," he added, explaining why he has no money to pay off the 2000 California judgment.

Rick Earnhart, the plaintiff in the civil suit that was the subject of Friday's hearing, said he lost $175,000 in two schemes perpetrated by Hilton in the 1990s.

"He's just playing poor me, poor me," Earnhart said Friday. "Don't buy into it. He's a total con man."

Hilton, a 55-year-old native of Montenegro, spent several years in prison in California on grand theft charges and has at least three civil judgments against him for fraudulent investment schemes.

Hardin economic development officials signed a contract with Hilton in early September calling for his company, American Police Force, to operate the city's never-used jail and fill it with inmates.

But the deal was never ratified by a bank overseeing the jail, and it collapsed after media revelations about Hilton's criminal background.

Board members for Hardin's economic development agency, the Two Rivers Authority, have said they never investigated Hilton's background and didn't know of his criminal history until after they signed a deal with him.

But Hilton said Friday that he confessed his past as early as July to the authority's executive director, Greg Smith, and was told it would not be a problem.

Smith, who has since resigned, could not be reached immediately for comment.

Before the end of the jail deal came, as the expenses mounted and Hilton's operating cash dwindled, he said he borrowed money at one point from his girlfriend, Becky Nguyen.

His own bank account is now empty, he said, while that of American Police Force is overdrawn by $2,000.

Hilton also acknowledged never having the corporate backing he claimed. Instead, he said he had only four investors — including Nguyen — who put money toward the jail project and a proposed law enforcement and military training center.

Thousands await Knock's new Virgin Mary vision

Pilgrims have travelled to a rain-soaked corner of western Ireland hoping to witness a miracle

Henry McDonald, Ireland editor
The Observer, Sunday 1 November 2009
Article history

They came from Wexford, Manchester and even India, driven on by the hope that in this rain-soaked corner of western Ireland the mother of God would appear to them this weekend.

All along Knock's main street the pilgrims slept in vans and motor homes, all hoping to book a space near the site where a Dublin-based spiritual healer predicted the Virgin Mary would materialise.

Joe Coleman's visions of a Marian apparition on the exact spot where villagers claimed they saw the Virgin Mary in 1879 have created a fervour across the Catholic world.

Coleman complained that the Catholic church had not made a priest available to recite the Rosary with him and the thousands gathered in waiting. Describing himself as "a visionary of our Blessed Mother", he said the visitation would only be visible "to people who come with an open heart".

With up to 10,000 pilgrims descending on the village, Coleman's promise that Christ's mother would appear through a "dancing sun" in the sky has at least given Knock's economy an unexpected boost. At The Shrine bed and breakfast across the road from the Marian Shrine, built to commemorate the 19th-century apparition, the manager Nicola said all of their rooms were booked up on Friday evening.

Across the road, the O'Brien and Berry families from Co Wexford were bedding down for the night inside their van. Surrounded by her daughter Anne and grandsons, Martin and Luke, Alice Berry said that while she wanted see the Virgin Mary appear she was afraid of the message she would be bringing from heaven. "Of course I'm here to see Our Lady but I am worried about what she is going to say. I'm afraid she's going to tell us something terrible," said Alice.

The Berrys, like the most of those gathered this weekend beside the Knock shrine, are travellers. Their presence has illuminated the social chasm between them and the Republic's settled majority.

Many of the travellers gathering inside the shrine's grounds late on Friday complained that the public toilets had been locked and car parks blocked to prevent them from parking their vans, motor homes and caravans. They also pointed out that all of the pubs in the village have been shut and none were prepared to sell them carry-outs.

The shrine has its origins in the visions of a Miss Mary McLoughlin, the 45-year-old housekeeper, who on 21 August 1879 claimed to have seen on the south gable of Knock parish church "a wonderful number of strange figures; one like the blessed Virgin Mary and one like St. Joseph". It wasn't until 1936 and two commissions of inquiry before the Catholic church officially agreed that the visions were genuine. Sceptics have always argued that they were caused by the use of magic lanterns owned by a local police officer at the time.

While the Irish hierarchy maintains the 19th-century Knock apparitions were real it does not support Coleman's claims. But despite urging caution, the Irish Catholic bishops have been unable to dissuade the thousands who came this weekend to wait for the Virgin Mary's second coming to Mayo.

During the first "sighting" on 11 October, Coleman urged pilgrims to stare at the sun. Many of them claimed they saw clouds parting to reveal a bright sunlit image of a woman in white. Others, however, were more sceptical.

Before leaving the shrine yesterday, Coleman said the Virgin Mary had appeared but he was not yet prepared to reveal the message she had sent him for the world.

Oil and Sovereignty - In Whose Interests?

The following is an excerpt from a paper by Craig B Hulet titled:

Oil and Sovereignty

In Whose Interests?

KC & Associates Investigations research Associates

P.O. Box 710, Amanda Park, WA 98526 360-288-2652

Americans are even less interested in the truth of these findings than they were over a decade ago regarding the findings of this author about similar meetings and policy formulations already decided upon long before the past President Bush Senior’s Administration sought to bomb Iraq into the stone age. In fact it was planned to do just that had Saddam Hussein not gone along with the deal offered him at the time. Boring as it might seem to draw this analogy here I shall reprint the policy formulations below. It all began with the Palestinian peace process. To quote the White House April, 1990 meeting:

The Trilateral countries could assist a possible peace process, as well as helping to reduce the dangers to their own interests deriving from a renewal of inter-State conflict in the Middle East, by pursuing issues of non-proliferation of chemical, biological and atomic weapons and of conventional disarmament in the region, as well as of limitation of arms sales to the areas. The extent to which peace in the region is currently endangered by past sales, both legal and illegal, of armaments and of technology cannot be exaggerated. (Task Force Report: the Israeli-Palestinian Issue, The Washington, D.C., Plenary Meeting of the Trilateral Commission, April 1990, p.74. See also the Triangle Paper report itself number 38, p. 32, issued May 1990)

This meeting of the infamous Trilateral Commission (much argued among conspiracy theorists still) did take place; it was hosted by then President George Bush Senior at the White House. Admitting that “The arms producing countries in the industrial world as well as the Soviet Union, some of its former satellites, and China share responsibility for this,” they hypocritically failed mentioning the presence for decades of American arms sales to many countries in the region by the United States itself, especially to Iraq; this is explainable, as Iraq is singled out in the same text.

In particular, the development both of nuclear weapons and chemical weapons in the region would scarcely have been possible without access to Western materials and technology, and there has been a notable failure to face up to the fact of, and the implications of, these leakages both the Israel and to Arab States such as Iraq. Peace and stability in the Middle East will be difficult to ensure without a major international initiative designed to undo this damage--an initiative which may now be more readily achieved by agreement between East and West as a result of greatly improved climate of international relations. (Ibid.)0

This was the argument to intervene in the region and set up a permanent military presence to ensure stability in the Persian Gulf in the State of Saudi Arabia; the Soviet Union has collapsed and its presence was no longer a threat to the region. It was no longer a threat to Western and particularly American hegemony in the region then either. America under Mr. Bush Senior decided American hegemony was the future for the Middle East. Of course, it is common knowledge now that it was precisely this permanent military presence in the two Holy Lands of Saudi Arabia that set Ussamah bin Laden into motion after America had trained him and his followers along with the Taliban to stop Soviet expansion in the Central region of Afghanistan. The report goes on to say this:

Accordingly, urgent action should be taken to initiate linked nuclear, chemical and biological disarmament, control and verification measures in the Middle East. This is a matter which might appropriately be considered by the U.N. security Council in view of the serious threat to peace now posed by the proliferation of these weapons. (Ibid.)

Urgent action by the U.N. Security Council and the seemingly (at the time that is) ability of then President George Bush Sr. to simply pick up the phone and form an instantaneous coalition of western powers to attack Iraq after August, 2nd, 1990, is now easily explained, as I did during the period in question. Bush already had all the respective western powers lined up after Senator Robert Dole’s April 1990 mission to Iraq failed to get resolution on the question of Iraqi disarmament. Saddam Hussein simply said no, he would not disarm unless Israel did so as well. Of course Israel was not asked to disarm. The western powers that made up Bush’s immediate coalition are specifically those European nation-states which make up the Trilateral Commission itself: i.e., all of Western Europe, North America and Japan (Which is what the word “Trilateral” means in the organization’ name)

It is only in the context of those meetings during April and after Robert Dole’s failed mission to Iraq, that Ambassador to Iraq, Ms April Glaspie, and her remarks to Saddam Hussein during June and July of 1990 make sense. Saddam Hussien asked Ms Glaspie what America’s position was on the border dispute between Iraq and Kuwait? It was a long-standing dispute over who owned the strip of land between the two States and the separate very real dispute that Kuwait was “slant drilling” into Iraqi territory using newly developed technology of the wholey-owned Al Sabah family’s Kuwaiti firm of Santa Fe International. Glaspie’s response to Hussein was “that America would not get involved in Middle Eastern border disputes.” Saddam assumed wrongly that this left him free to resolve the situation with his own means. Many analysts saw these developments as Saddam Hussein having been clearly hoodwinked (“The Green Light” to it was called) into invading Kuwait and was duly shocked when President George Bush Sr. declared Hussein a “Hitler.”

I would be failing to do my job by not pointing out, as an aside, that the company Sante Fe International, owned 100 percent by the Al Sabah family of Kuwait had on its Board of Directors former President Gerald Ford (the President that appointed George Bush Senior to Director of the CIA), General Brent Scowcroft (at the time Bush Senior’s National Security Advisor) and Roderich Hills (husband of Carla Hills, Bush Senior’s Trade Representative).

One does not need to see conspiracy where policy formulations stated earlier in the same year, even just weeks or months before-hand laid out the political objectives. That the political objectives laid out earlier are fulfilled using war or conflict as the means is simply a von Clausewitzian understanding of the way the real world works, i.e., war is politics by other means.

The Fresh Air Fund

About The Fresh Air Fund

THE FRESH AIR FUND, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Nearly 10,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs annually. In 2009, close to 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada. 3,000 children also attended five Fresh Air camps on a 2,300-acre site in Fishkill, New York. The Fund’s year-round camping program serves an additional 2,000 young people each year.

Fresh Air Fund History

In 1877, the Reverend Willard Parsons, minister of a small rural parish in Sherman, Pennsylvania, asked members of his congregation to provide country vacations as volunteer host families for children from New York City tenements. This was the beginning of The Fresh Air Fund tradition of caring for NYC’s neediest children.

The simplicity of our program is its strength. Looking back to 1877, we can reflect on how much has changed, and how much has stayed the same. In 2009, close to 5,000 New York City children experienced the joys of summertime in Friendly Towns and at five Fund camps in upstate New York.

Police: Man Confesses To Murder, Rape Of Girl

William Davis III

by Alan McBride

SANFORD, FLA. An Orange County man who was charged in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a woman from a Longwood-area used car lot confessed to the crime, according to law enforcement officers.

That means William Davis III now faces first-degree murder charges, along with the kidnapping charges on which he is currently jailed in Seminole County, officials said.

The incident, according to statements from the arrest affidavit for Davis, took place after he had purchased an SUV at the dealership, and had become frustrated that he was unable to get a title for the vehicle when he returned to the establishment.

Davis, 31, reportedly told investigators that he kidnapped Fabiana Malave, 19, at knifepoint, forced the woman to drive him to his car, then drove her to his home.

Davis said he then raped the woman and strangled her, according to an arrest affidavit.

Authorities said Davis wrapped Malave's body in a blanket, put it in the back of his car, and attempted to drive back to the parking area behind a tavern, where Malave's car had been parked.

Police said Davis was seen driving past the used car lot by employees, who were able to help a visiting deputy track down Davis' car and block it in the parking area until back-up arrived.

Authorities said they discovered Malave's body in Davis' SUV after he had been handcuffed.

Seminole County deputies said they were waiting on the results of forensic testing to verify Davis' claims that he had raped the woman.

Davis, according to Florida records, has a history that includes allegations of rape and physical violence.

The first case in Florida involved allegations that he raped an ex-girlfriend in 2003, according to records with the State Attorney's Office. Authorities said the woman, 22, did not want to prosecute. Records show he attacked the woman again, six months later.

Davis was eventually sentenced to five years in prison, Corrections records show, and had been released Sept. 30, 2008, after serving the minimum sentence required by state law.

Economic Exposé (with Craig B. Hulet)

Analyst of geopolitics and foreign policy, Craig B. Hulet discussed how the banking bailouts were put in place by a "thugocracy" that has set the stage for a global financial system that excludes the United States. The thugocracy is composed of a group of banks that have acted like extortionists on an unprecedented scale, he commented. The President doesn't have the power "to stop the global regime of economic interdependence," which is how this group refers to itself. "I call them a medieval corporate regime that's hi-tech. It's a monstrosity that the world's never seen and because of technology, it's going to make our lives an absolute hell" and we'll have no civil rights left, he exclaimed.

A whole new system of governance is in the works, and the US is not going to be part of it, he continued. Hulet outlined how credit card companies are reducing or removing Americans' credit lines-- this will be completed by July 2010, and people will be forced to save money instead. This money, he detailed, will be used for loans and investments in new markets like China. US companies are continuing to move offshore, and 40% of all trade is now between international corporations rather than nations, he added.

Hulet also talked about geopolitics including terrorism, conflicts in the Middle East, and the 9-11 attacks. There was covered-up intelligence evidence that "nation states" (possibly including Saudi Arabia) were involved in setting up the attacks, he noted.

And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD

Jeremiah 24

1The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

2One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.

3Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

4Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

5Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

6For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

7And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

8And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:

9And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.

10And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.
