The Fort Hood shooting anniversary is being marked at the Texas army base today. An awards presentation and Remembrance Ceremony are being held on the base where 13 people were killed last Nov. 5.

An editorial in the base newsletter honored the soldiers without mentioning their killer, a fellow soldier.

"This tragic event brought the surrounding communities and the Great Place together as one,"
Command Sgt. Maj. Archie L. Davis Jr. wrote.

"There was an outpouring of support from everywhere and everyone, and this is why we want to honor and remember our fallen heroes and celebrate their service and sacrifice Friday and Saturday as we observe the one-year anniversary of the tragic shootings at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center.”

Davis ended his editorial with a quote from doctor and author Rachel Naomi Remen: “Only other wounded people can understand what is needed, for the healing of suffering is compassion, not expertise.”

On Saturday, the remembrance will turn festive with “Rock the Hood,” races, children’s events as well as music for soldiers, veterans, and families.

Religious freedom and liturgy-- not abuse crisis-- top agenda for cardinals' meeting

Photo (Courtesy) http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/college-of-cardinals-to-discuss-anglican-converts-clerical-abuse/

November 09, 2010

The primary topics for the special meeting of the world’s cardinals on November 19 will be religious freedom and the sacred liturgy.

Secular news accounts of the special meeting have focused almost exclusively on the announcement that the College of Cardinals will discuss the sex-abuse crisis. But in fact that topic is only one of three secondary matters that will be taken up later in the day.

Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the dean of the College, has written to all the world’s cardinals, confirming the invitation of Pope Benedict XVI for the prelates to join in a day of “reflection and prayer.” The following day, November 20, will see the elevation of 24 new members to the College of Cardinals.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, will introduce the first main topic, speaking about the threats to religious freedom around the world. Next Cardinal Antonio Canizares Llovera, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, will open the discussion of liturgy.

In the afternoon, three topics will on the agenda. Archbishop Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, will speak on ecumenical prospects, 10 years after the release of Dominus Iesus. Then Cardinal William Levada, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, will brief the cardinals on the latest developments in the sex-abuse scandal. Finally Cardinal Levada will speak on a topic that could provoke a lively conversation: the implementation of the apostolic constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus and the establishment of ordinariates for Anglicans entering the Catholic Church.

What is the "W" for?

I believe it stands for: Why now?

Recently, ex-President Bush has made the headlines, out of the blue.
Where has he been for the last 22 months?
Well, Mr. Bush is making the rounds while President Obama is busy visiting Asia and his hometown (his other, other, other hometown) Indonesia .

What a time to release his memoirs?
What peculiar timing?
Is this the time to have the neo-cons heading for Borders? Following the rip roaring midterm elections?
While Obama's on tour, the Bishop of Rome - Ratzinger is in Barcelona dedicating la Santa Familia Cathedral, and the Black Pope Adolfo Nicolas Pachon SJ, is busy working rallying the troops behind the scenes in the home of liberation theology - neo-socialist (fascist) Latin America? Is this the time for such a feat or what?

Could this be considered an Attention Coup?

During his resurrection from anonymity G. W. Bush reveals among many other salty secrets, that he had an alcohol problem. Nah, really? I wasn't surprised about his affinity for alcohol. I noticed that in every step he took as president he acted as if he were drunk with the wine of Babylon. You know, the wine that flows from the Church of Rome.
Bush claims to be a Methodist or whatever he calls himself. Yet, he swore allegiance to carry out the example of JP II early during his presidency; In March 2001 Bush stated:
The best way to honor Pope John Paul II, truly one of the great men, is to take his teachings seriously, to listen to his words and put his words and his teachings into action here in America! http://www.ncregister.com/info/email-a-friend/bush_hails_pope_for_culture_of_life

In April 2005 at John Paul II's funeral George W.Bush said:
"Pope John Paul II was, himself, an inspiration to millions of Americans, and to so many more throughout the world. We will always remember the humble, wise and fearless priest who became one of history's great moral leaders. We're grateful to God for sending such a man, a son of Poland, who became the Bishop of Rome, and a hero for the ages."
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art32964.asp

In contrast to America's only acknowledged Catholic president ever:
"In 1960, John Kennedy went from Washington to Texas to assure Protestant preachers he would not obey the pope. In 2001, George Bush came from Texas up to Washington to assure a group of Catholic Bishops he would obey the pope." Washington Times, April 16, 2001.
http://www.rense.com/general66/midfin.htm

Yes, our Methodist ex-president is making the rounds again, this time peddling his-story, like Michael Jackson once did (speaking of MJ. his children are making a debut, again), a.k.a. re-writing history; But, you can't fool all of the people all of the times, as a popular Protestant (who was assassinated by the Jesuits) used to say.

Keep your eyes open for the news behind the noose, the fine print between the lines.

Arsenio,

Maranatha.

P.S. President George W. Bush will join Matt Lauer for a live sit-down interview on TODAY on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

EU atheist-freemason summit 'very odd', says Europe's chief unbeliever

Atheists would rather there were no summits with them or the churches (Photo: Valentina Pop)

LEIGH PHILLIPS

21.10.2010 @ 07:35 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The first ever summit between representatives of secularist, atheist and masonic organisations and the leaders of the European Union's three main institutions was "very odd," Europe's top unbeliever has said.

On Friday (15 October), leaders from what the European Commission describes as "philosophical non-confessional organisations" met with the presidents of the European Commission, Parliament and Council to discuss their views on poverty and social exclusion. The first meeting of its kind, it is the secular counterpart to the summits the three institutions are now obliged by the Lisbon Treaty to regularly have with religious leaders.

David Pollock, the president of the European Humanist Federation, told EUobserver that his organisation is against the idea of the meetings but went along to balance out a previous EU meeting with religious figures.

"There is no reason why we as atheists or freemasons, any more than religious leaders, have any particular expertise on poverty reduction strategies. There were a series of fairly predictable expressions of outrage that citizens remain in poverty and demands for greater solidarity but nothing especially specific in the way of any strategy. There was lots of good will and not a great deal else," he said.

"It was all a bit odd."

The representatives gave short three-minute statements on the topic of poverty in the union and then lunched with the three presidents.

Mr Pollock said the EU should go beyond charity payments and its focus on poverty reduction and look instead to specific legislative efforts to reduce income inequality, such as raising minimum pay rates and setting and subsequently reducing maximum pay rates.

The group has opposed the Lisbon Treaty's institutionalisation of religious consultation, but: "As the treaty has passed, this can't be undone, and the churches have this ready access at the most senior level, so it is important that we take part in order to make the counterargument."

Atheist Ireland, the UK-based National Secular Society, the European Association for Free Thought and Belgium's Secular Action Centre also took part in the two-hour meeting, as well as the masonic Grand Lodges or Grand Orients of eight EU member states: Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and Romania.

"In total, of the 18 representatives there, atheist or secularist organisations were outnumbered two to one, with five from the humanist groups and 12 from the freemasons," Mr Pollock explained.

He believes it is inappropriate that atheist groups have been lumped in with the secretive freemasons.

"I suppose they were there insofar as they are in favour of a separation between church and state, although some did make a few friendly references about Christian values. But I don't have any particular quarrel with what they had to say about poverty," he said.

Emerging in the late 16th century in England and subsequently spreading throughout the world, the Freemasons split in 1877 between the English-speaking lodges and their continental counterparts over the question of god. Anglophone Freemasons require that their members believe in a deity, while continental freemasons do not.

The atheists are more concerned about what they describe as the "privileged access" offered to religious groups. The last EU religious summit, in July, also focussed on the question of poverty. Previous meetings with religious leaders have considered climate change, immigration and "flexicurity" - a Danish model for the welfare state.

"It is not just the meetings. The process involves a lot more. What we are worried about is that churches - and in particular the Catholic Church as it is in the best position to exploit this process - to insert themselves at the earliest stage of policy formation. They explicitly want pre-legislative consultations," Mr Pollock said.

Other international fora where churches have been offered institutional access, he added, give an idea of what the Vatican hopes to achieve in the EU.

"When it comes to family planning, women's rights, gay rights, they are very active at the UN. The Church is positively crowing about how recently they have been able to eliminate language on access to abortion, safe pregnancies and sex education in a recent report on the Millennium Development Goals," he noted.

"One should be very worried about similar moves that might go on as a result of this process in the EU."

For its part, the Catholic Church denies it has any ulterior motives in engaging in the consultations.

"Abortion, these other topics are of course a concern to the Catholic Church, but we know very well that these are not competences of the European Union," Johanna Touzel, spokeswoman for the Commission of Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (Comece), the Church's European lobby outfit.

"Even if we would want such influence, we cannot do this because the EU has no responsibility here. They are instead raised at the national level," she continued.

"The diologue is open, very transparent, a democratic procedure," she continued. "It's not done behind closed doors. You can see the list of all participants and all proposals and contributions are published."

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, a devout Catholic, said after the meeting: "We acknowledged the experience of humanist and philosophical leaders when dealing with this challenge [poverty]. I look forward to further strengthening this dialogue."

One in three Europeans have no religion, according to the European Humanist Federation.

CIA in Paraguay, or How to Get Rid of a President

Nil Nikandrov - http://www.strategic-culture.org/

Paraguay's current president Fernando Lugo used to be known as "the bishop of the poor". He made a fairly quick career in the Roman Catholic church's hierarchy, became a bishop, and later was overwhelmingly voted in as the country's president. Inaugurated on August 15, 2008, he planned to bring profound changes to Paraguay including a departure from his predecessor's markedly ruinous neoliberal course and an alliance with the populist leaders seeking to build the XXI century socialism. From the outset, however, Lugo's plans ran into serious roadblocks. For example, his agrarian reformhad to be put on hold for years because the pro-presidential fraction in the parliament was unable to break the resistance mounted by the legislature's majority which upheld the interests of land proprietors. Moreover, the political agenda in Paraguay was overshadowed by the fact that the country was permanently confronted with a threat of a military coup.

Tensions in Paraguay intensified when Lugo said he would not renew the military cooperation agreement with the US. The announcement left the US embassy in Asunción, which did not expect to face defiance of such magnitude, in a state of shock.Lugo's decision rendered fruitless years of Washington's efforts aimed at implementing the Pentagon's New Horizons program. Some 500 US servicemen were to be deployed in Paraguay in its framework, ostensibly to let US marines get used to the local climate and to carry out joint exercises with the country's own army. The actual objective that loomed behind the program was to enable the Pentagon to occupy for at least a decade the Mariscal Estigarribia base sited at a distance of just 200 km from the populist Bolivia. Paraguayused to host US southern command's forces in the past, the operations being disguised as humanitarian missions meant to provide healthcare to the population or to build schools in rural areas. In practice, the Pentagon used Paraguay's territory to carry out reconnaissance in the border zone of the three countries – Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina – and to create the infrastructures the US could rely on to dispatch troops en masse in the case of a regional crisis.

Washingtoncited the presence of Al Qaeda and Hezbollah cells in the region as the reason for its activities, but obviously hoped to gain positions from which it could hold at gunpoint the populist regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Bolivia rather than sought to counter the mythical terrorist groups. Besides, Washington tends to be concerned over the attempts made by the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) to establish a regional defense system to which the US is not invited.

Lugo rejected the New Horizons upon getting familiarized with the materials supplied by his Unasur colleagues – he learned that the US had launched an attack against a FARC camp in Ecuador's border zone from a base in Columbia. Allowing Washington to use the territory of Paraguay for military escapes did not sound like a good idea.

Regretting Lugo's decision, US ambassador to Paraguay Liliana Ayalde expressed the hope that other cooperation programs – both military and civilian – would not be affected. Tentatively, she was worried about Paraguay's program of officer corps training and weapons acquisitions. The country's potential turn to populist regimes or to Brazil and Argentina in military affairs would no doubt be perceived by Washington as a foreign-politics fiasco.

The US embassy and its intelligence staff were from the start angered by Lugo's gravitating to the populist regimes. For Washington, the prospects of a strategic alliance between the Paraguayan president and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) look frightening considering that already back in the 1970ies Henry Kissinger warned about the importance of the continent to the US plans for global dominance.

Lugohad to face a real war as a reaction to his independent course. A propaganda campaign targeting him swept across the continent: the media portrayed the former priest's lifestyle as reckless debauchery, alleged he had a number of children born out of wedlock, and charged him with tolerance to corruption in his inner circle. Papers wrote that Lugo enjoyed the living standards of an oligarch while posing as the champion of the cause of the disadvantaged and that he called for class struggle from a jacuzzi. CIA agents in the Paraguayan media floated the myth that Lugo had for a long time been on the agency's payroll and claimed that CIA defector Philipp Agee exposed Lugo's uncle as a CIA agent. Some media went so far as to say that practically all of Lugo's relatives had ties with US agencies, the US Department of State, or USAID. The smear campaign did prompt a part of Paraguay's population to revoke their support for the president.

For no legible reason, Marxist-Bolivarian guerrilla groups suddenly surfaced in Paraguay. The Paraguayan People's Army - Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo – occasionally attacked the police or robbed grocery stores while the media elaborately linked it to Columbia's FARC and ELN. The group's invisible leaders churned out demagogic statements, showered Lugo with threats, and even promised a reward for killing him. The ado reeked of Hollywood but the group was subjected to a no-nonsense hunt assisted by the CIA and Columbia's Presidential Intelligence Service (DAS). Influencers worked hard to convince Lugo that the problem could not be handled without Washington's help and that the US military presence had a stabilizing impact on the country. Lugo eventually gave in and consented to a state of emergency in the north of Paraguay.

Information was leaked to the media in August – September, 2010 that Lugo – normally a healthy and energetic macho immune to any kind of nervousness - had cancer. The forms of cancer mentioned were lymphoma, lymphosarcoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, etc. Lugo's doctors released reassuring statements that the president's life was not in danger and that chemotherapy would help as Lugo went to Brazil several times for treatment. Officials maintain that the president is sure to recover, that his grip on the presidential power remains firm, and that he will pass the presidency to his successor in August, 2013 in accord with the country's constitution. Only US ambassador Liliana Ayalde did come up with a dissonant statement which seemed to indicate that Lugo had been written off.

At the moment Lugo looks embattled by the decease. He lost hair after chemotherapy, his speech shed its former assertive tone, and he looks much older than he did recently. There is an impression that the president has difficulty concealing his emotions and realizes what the origin of his health problems could be. In contrast, his perpetual opponent Federico Franco is on the rise. He has quite a few friends at the US embassy and, needless to say, regards the New Horizons as an excellent project. For him, it is just a matter of time.

'Satanic' art in Catholic Church exposed

Documentary links clergy sex abuse with occult imagery

Could the Roman Catholic Church's sex abuse crisis be tied to embedded Satanic and occultic imagery in its artwork – some of it hundreds of years old?

That is the seemingly incredible thesis of a new documentary, "Rape of the Soul," made not by anti-Catholic bigots, but by devout followers of the Church.

"Rape of the Soul" is in theatrical release in major cities, including New York and Los Angeles.

The documentary explores the prevalent use of satanic, sexual, occult and anti-Catholic images in historical and contemporary religious artwork. The film also discusses the mysterious acceptance of the artwork at the highest and most trusted levels of the Catholic Church.

"Rape of the Soul" is rated R because of the disturbing content involving demonic, violent and sexual imagery.

The film, which is being released by Silver Sword International, contends a major cause of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church could be due to prolonged exposure to sexual and satanic images being incorporated into the religious art.

Experts are featured in the film to offer detailed accounts of the subconscious programming effects of the sex and occult images on the human brain and how it promotes sex, Satanism and the occult. Religious education materials, songbooks, children's story books, devotionals and the Sunday Missals all have been found to contain embedded imagery.

The 140-minute film shows a compilation of the events, investigations, discovery and exposure of implanted imagery in religious art. Then it shows the devastating affects of the artwork that is primarily aimed at children and the clergy.

Five experts speak on the different aspects of the artwork, including Michael A. Calace, an Italian director, actor, writer and producer who is also a devout Roman Catholic.

Calace embarked on a mission of "Merging Media with Morality" to create family-oriented films of true life drama for Silver Sword International, his production company. While doing so, he uncovered a series of religious scandals. Calace puts to use his experiences of more than 20 years of expertise to discover a huge amount of offensive images of carefully embedded sexual and occult horror. He explains the techniques used to embed the images, and he presents discoveries from his investigations.

"The deeper I dug, the more I discovered, not just in regard to contemporary art, but works dating back more than 500 years, from some well-known and respected artists. Sex and horror is the fuel that promotes the scandalous behavior in the Church. This is the answer why, and Church leaders don't have to look very far, because the problem is coming from within the Church itself," said Calace of his research.

Other experts include Wilson Bryan Key, an American recognized internationally for over 30 years of embedded-imagery expertise. He also was a professor at the University of Western Ontario.

Stanley Monteith, another expert in the film, is an author and radio talk show host who has spent more than 30 years researching the causes of America's moral decline. Monteith also has extensively studied the Vatican's history and politics and has interviewed Malachi Martin, the former Jesuit priest on many different occasions.

Marc Oster contributes his expertise in psychology and hypnosis. Judith Reisman, the final expert featured in "Rape of the Soul," is a world-renowned author, who specializes in child psychology and the harmful effects of pornography. She is also president of The Institute for Media Education and author of a U.S. Department of Justice study on juveniles.

"These images, unrecognized by the untrained eye, can be a ticking time-bomb to an individual who is unaware of their presence, especially someone who is already predisposed to deviant sexual behavior," said Reisman.

"Artists from DaVinci to Botticelli have embedded subliminal images into their art for centuries," said Calace. "In this case we found penises on crucifixes, anarchy symbols, swastikas, demonic faces and in modern works even the word 'sex' encrypted into the images. The works in question include modern artists' work currently on the covers of missalettes and hymnals that at this very moment sit in the pews of churches throughout the U.S. and on children's religious teaching aids."

Calace said, "'Rape of the Soul' was created to heal the many that have suffered from these uninvited violations."

Five Religious Groups in Ethiopia Vow to Promote Peace

BY NEW BUSINESS ETHIOPIA REPORTER

Representatives of five religious groups in Ethiopia indicated their mutual readiness to promote peace and stability in the country amidst the doctrine difference among the organizations.

Source: the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life April 2010

This is indicated during a peace talk organized by Religious Organizations’ Peace Assembly of Ethiopia, which is held at Ghion Hotel in Addis Ababa yesterday (October 4, 2010).

Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Ethiopian Catholic Church, Evangelical Church and the Seventh Day Adventist Church are the five religious organizations assembled to peacefully handle their differences.

Despite their difference in doctrine, leaders of the religious organizations participating in the conference agreed to work together as one to realize peace and stability in the east African nation.

Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Abune Paulos stated in his speech that the peace talk is the first of its kind to be held. He also noted that the establishment of the Religious Organizations Peace Assembly in Ethiopia will assist in instituting peace and create cooperation among different religions.

“Let’s all be one and work together, as our poverty is the result of our failure to cooperate,” the Patriarch said.

Sheik Ahmedin Sheik Abdulahi, President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, on his part indicated that the council will do everything in its power to achieve the goals of the assembly.

Ministry of Federal Affairs, Dr Shferaw Teklemariam, also stated that the establishment of the assembly will help the country in overcoming poverty and bring peace and development to its people, and guarantee the rights of citizens, which are stated in the Ethiopian constitution.

The assembly has its own director under the Ministry of Federal Affairs. It is set to discuss different religious related issues raised by the organizations and will meet twice a month and make decisions on the issues raised.

The Assembly began its function last year and has 25 active members from the five religious organizations with common goal of creating peace and cooperation among different religions.

Compared to other countries, Ethiopia is often mentioned as one of the nations where both Christians and Muslims live in harmony respecting each other while practicing their religions.

“Sub Saharan Africa, which is home of 820 million people, is prone to conflicts resulting from religion,” states ‘Tolerance and Tension: Islam and Christianity in Sub-Saharan Africa’, a report released in April this year by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life.

The report shows that Sub-Saharan Africa now is home to about one-in-five of all the Christians in the world (21%) and more than one-in-seven of the world's Muslims (15%).

The number of Muslims living between the Sahara Desert and the Cape of Good Hope has increased more than 20-fold, rising from an estimated 11 million in 1900 to approximately 234 million in 2010. While the number of Christians has grown even faster, soaring almost 70-fold from about 7 million to 470 million, according to the report.

World Church Leader Calls for Relevant Evangelism

November 1, 2010, Ilsan City, South Korea

Gary Krause reiterates the importance of showing God's love in practical ways

Former PMM to Taiwan, Chung HaeSub, relates some of his struggles and victories in the field.

Connecting with people in their community, showing God’s love in practical ways, and building a sense of belonging should be the focus of outreach in urban areas, a Seventh-day Adventist official from the denomination’s world headquarters said yesterday.

Gary Krause, an associate secretary of the Adventist world church and director of the church’s Office of Adventist Mission, urged leaders from the church’s Northern Asia-Pacific Division to continue following Christ’s model of mingling with people and reaching them with examples from their own culture.

“Church itself is not a destination, but it’s a place to get people to where they need to be spiritually,” Krause said. “Often, though, our focus is how to attract people to church instead of getting out into the community where people are.”

Krause delivered his remarks as the key presenter for the division’s Council on Evangelism and Witness, held a day before the church region’s annual business meetings at the administration’s headquarters in Ilsan, Goyang, South Korea. The meeting included some 40 church leaders from China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and Taiwan.

Krause also used the occasion to mark 20 years since the denomination released a global strategy for offering outreach in many un-entered areas, including India, the Middle East, Russia, China and growing urban areas. Many of his themes touched on the church’s 2005 outreach initiative Hope for Big Cities.

He revisited church co-founder Ellen White’s call for members to offer outreach in urban areas. The worldwide denomination has historically spent much of its resources on rural areas, Krause said. In 1950, he said, about 30 percent of the world’s population lived in urban areas. He said that figure is expected to increase to 60 percent by the year 2030. Already, about 75 percent of people in developed countries live in urban areas.

Krause showed a model for outreach that emphasizes creating a sense of belonging for potential new members. The method, he said, has been demonstrated in many world regions as more effective than soon pushing potential new members for Bible studies and an immediate change in behavior in order to become a church member.

The day highlighted several of the mission movements in the division, including the Pioneer Mission Movement (PMM), a church planting initiative. Already in the past eight years, about 60 pastors have served in the program in other countries.

One of several guest presenters yesterday was Pastor Chung Hae Sub, who served in the PMM program in Taiwan. He said he struggled for the first seven months of his ministry there, with few people showing interest. Eventually, though, he helped establish a community center, teaching Korean culture and language, as well as exercise and health programs. The center led to several people joining Chung’s small congregation. He said he later became well known, with people stopping him on the street to offer greetings.

Chung, who now serves as a chaplain at Sahmyook University, said he originally entered the PMM because he had little experience approaching people. “Many times pastors push their members or deacons to reach out to people. I wanted to have that experience myself,” he said of his six-year commitment to the program.

Several leaders at yesterday’s meeting highlighted the need for contributions of lay members to drive church mission. Still, several challenges remain.

“Members are very busy,” said James Wu, director of the church’s outreach to Chinese people of the world. He said members come to church once a week, but they have little time to contribute to mission activities during the week.

Ken Osborn, NSD treasurer, said the denomination doesn’t need to ignore successful outreach methods of other Christian churches. “We need to be careful that we don’t become so insular that we adopt the attitude that we can’t learn anything from other Christian groups,” Osborn said.

Krause agreed, saying the Adventist Church wouldn’t just accept what other groups are doing, but would carefully examine what outreach methods could be adopted.

CEW is part of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division’s Annual Council, which meets through Monday, November 1.

Incredible Apostasy: Will it Ever Stop?

By Elder Lawrence Nelson

In recent weeks I find myself with a heart-rending perplexity. For my soul sighs and cries daily as I see abominations developing within God’s church. No one of high authority seems to have the spiritual courage to stem the rising tide. I ask, “Is everyone at our world headquarters asleep, or are they so afraid because of Jesuit pressure they dare not say a word? Is there not at least one godly leader who knows what is taking place? In the light of inspiration can’t someone visualize what the end results will be in promoting that which God condemns?”

Throughout the world a number of ministries are arising and exposing these apostasies. Surely there must be at least one of high authority who sees and knows what is taking place – one who will arise with power from on high and call for a return to the counsel of God as found in the Spirit of Prophecy, and start a reformation. But we hear nary a word of such. Why? In searching for an answer I was led to the following quotation that describes to a “t” what is taking place in our church today, and it also answers the question: Will there soon be a change for the better? Will this incredible apostasy stop?

Listen, the answer is found in Selected Messages , Book 1, p. 204, 205. “The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A new organization would be established. Books of a new order would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities and do a wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the new movement. The leaders would teach that virtue is better than vice, but God being removed, they would place their dependence on human power, which, without God, is worthless. Their foundation would be built on the sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure.”

Did you catch the answer? – Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of this new movement. How revealing! In other words, nothing will stop this apostasy until the vast majority of Seventh-day Adventists become so involved in apostasy that they finally depart from God’s remnant church and return to Babylon. Now I realize you are startled, and you ask, How and when did all this begin? We had better know the facts or else we may also be captured by this satanic movement.

But before we proceed, let us pray for guidance. Dear Loving Father, we plead that Thou wilt commission Thy Holy Spirit to be in charge of this presentation, giving divine guidance that we may discern truth from error. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

From the beginning of God’s end-time remnant church Satan has constantly attempted to destroy it by introducing false doctrines, knowing that if they were accepted, such would lead to apostasy. Permit me to give you a brief summary of such activity from past years starting with the very beginning in 1844. God’s small group of remnant were immediately faced with the fanatical teaching of magnetism which taught that once you were sanctified you would never sin again. Praise God, knowing that such false doctrines would enter His church He gave His people a prophet to guide and expose such error.

Listen to her words, “Let not God be dishonored by the declaration from human lips, ‘I am sinless; I am holy.’ Sanctified lips will never give utterance to such presumptuous words.” Acts of the Apostles p. 561, 562. And she further warned, “The experience of the past (speaking of fanaticism after 1844) will be repeated. … Most seducing influences will be exerted; minds will be hypnotized.” Testimonies for the Church , Volume 8, p. 293.

So long as the growing church followed the counsel of its prophet every false movement that arose quickly came to an end. For example, in 1851 Joseph Bates (of all people you would suspect) predicted that the second Advent would occur that year. This was but the beginning of many false predictions based on supposed prophetic prophesies. But the servant of the Lord instructed the following, found in Spiritual Gifts , Volume 1, p. 138 – 148; 158, that prophetic periods reached to 1844. “Prophetic time closed in 1844. I was shown prophetic periods ended in 1844.”

Then in 1887 D. M. Canright began to preach “new theology” which the Lord’s servant immediately exposed. And sorry to say, some of his same false doctrines can be found in Desmond Ford’s preaching today. Such was the devil’s continuous attempt to cause disbelief in the Testimonies.

This was followed in 1908 by W. W. Prescott who boldly attempted to change the words found in the Great Controversy book. But Ellen White would not permit this. She wrote, “Such was rejected.” That was taken from her letter “Elmshaven” p. 307.

Now this brings us to the year 1915 when L. R. Conrad tried to change Ellen White’s writings as published in the German language. But the church leadership, now without a prophet, began to fumble by not following her written counsel which caused the beginning of the Advent Reform Movement.

By 1929, without a living prophet, the Shepherd’s Rod Movement found little trouble, under the leadership of Victor Houteff, to secure a following with his false doctrines that the 144,000 were not found in heaven but would be located in Palestine.

Then came 1931, the year in which accreditation of our educational institutions took place. Again, leadership failed to exercise faith in the Spirit of Prophecy. This action opened the door to educating our college and university professors to obtain doctorate degrees in the schools of Babylon, where for the next twenty-five years many of our teachers succumbed to the false doctrines they were forced to study. Thus they gradually brought a change into our denomination as to our teachings.

Now with this short background the evangelical conference took place next in the mid-fifties. It was the decisions made during these meetings that started our church on the road to apostasy. A history of how such conferences developed are as follows:

On November 28, 1949 Pastor E. E. Unruh, president of the East Pennsylvania Conference, heard a sermon on the radio on Righteousness by Faith based on the book of Romans by a Dr. Barnhouse, radio preacher and minister of the Tenth Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; founder and editor of Eternity magazine . He wrote a letter to Dr. Barnhouse and commended him on his sermon. Dr. Barnhouse was astonished that an Adventist clergyman would commend him for preaching Righteousness by Faith since, in his opinion, it was a well-known fact that Seventh-day Adventists believed in Righteousness by Works.

This precipitated meetings beginning in 1954 between Dr. Barnhouse and Dr. Walter Martin, a consulting editor of the Eternity staff. Dr. Walter Martin was to search out thoroughly the human and historical resources of the Seventh-day Adventists. This developed into a fourteen-member committee and resulted in the book Questions on Doctrines being published in 1957 and it contained serious aberrations of Adventist truth. During these discussions the seeds were sown which are now producing the harvest of apostasy.

The General Conference leaders discovered that the Evangelicals were planning to publish a book containing the names of religious bodies which they declared to be non-Christian or a cult and this list contained the name of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Evangelical reasoning was as follows:

Since our church taught that Christ was now in heaven’s sanctuary making a final atonement, therefore we didn’t believe in the atonement made by Christ at the cross. So they considered Seventh-day Adventists to be nothing more than a cult.

These Babylonian Evangelicals held that Jesus made the final atonement on the cross and nothing more was needed, and if we did not agree with their belief and change our beliefs then they would print the book proclaiming that we were not Christians. And would you believe it, instead of holding to the divine inspiration that states, “Christ is now making an atonement,” these General Conference men compromised and determined to change our sanctuary doctrine so we could be considered by Babylon as “Christians.”

Soon new books were printed stating that we believe salvation was completed at the cross, denying that there was an atonement now taking place in heaven’s sanctuary. This is why you seldom, if ever, hear anything about a heavenly sanctuary from our pulpits today. Some even now preach there is no heavenly sanctuary, but God foreknew that this would take place and what would be the results. Inspiration proclaimed, “The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A new organization would be established. Books of a new order would be written. … The Sabbath of course would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of this new movement.” Selected Messages , Book 1, p. 204.

So much for the details. Let us now examine what the General Conference leadership actually changed. But first of all, we must secure a foundation in God’s Holy Word so let us read Romans 4:25. “[Christ] was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” This amazing scripture of one text reveals that the atonement provided by Christ was of a dual nature which made possible how God could destroy our sins and yet save the sinner. This verse reveals that the atonement at the cross provided the ransom price for sins, for scripture also states, “Christ was delivered (that is He died) for our offenses (that’s our sins) and was raised again for our justification.” This is exactly what the Old Testament sanctuary taught –

1. That the lamb was sacrificed on the alte(a)r for an atonement and

2. Its blood provided for the atonement which took place within the sanctuary for cleansing and justification of the sinner.

Thus the Bible doctrine of a dual atonement became a pillar of our faith established by God’s Holy Word and verified by the Spirit of Prophecy. This Bible doctrine is never to be altered and it stands today untouched by all the intellectualism of Babylon. Yet, our church leadership dared to disregard God’s truth. Consider once more Romans 4:25, “[Christ] was delivered for our offences (that is, He died for our sins) and was raised again for our justification.” Nothing could be stated more clearly. This is why God’s end-time prophet declares that Jesus must perform a work of atonement for the repentant sinner in addition to the atonement made at the cross in order to obtain full salvation. We read in Great Controversy p. 489, “The intercession of Christ in man’s behalf in the sanctuary above is as essential to the plan of salvation as was His death upon the cross. By His death, He began that work which after His resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven.”

Never forget, both the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy were co-authored by the Holy Spirit. They are always in complete agreement. When we talk of Christ’s death on the cross, and what He is now doing for us as our High Priest in heaven’s sanctuary, we acknowledge that both of these events have to do with Christ’s atoning work for us. In the Spirit of Prophecy the word “atonement” is used in five different expressions as follows:

1. “He made an atonement”

2. “A full atonement”

3. “A perfect atonement”

4. “A complete atonement”

5. “He is making an atonement”

Now let us examine these expressions so you will have a clear understanding of these two atonements. The first, “He made an atonement.” We find this in Signs of the Times , December 17, 1902. “On the cross of Christ the Savior made an atonement for the fallen race.” Now this statement is given in the past tense meaning that the sacrifice was completed. The price agreed upon was honored. The debt was paid in full for the sins of the whole world and it never needed to be repeated. For we read in Hebrews 9:28, “Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many.” This expression, “made an atonement” has to do strictly with that which was done on the cross.

Now let’s consider #2 – “a full atonement.” This statement is found in the book Lift Him Up p. 345, “Christ made a full atonement. He gave His life a ransom.” In a similar quotation she writes of Christ when He arose from the grave. “Christ made a full atonement.” Youth Instructor May 2, 1901. You can see from these two quotations that Christ paid the debt we owed. It was a full atonement – a full payment. He died in our place, making a full atonement on the cross.

Now the third statement – “a perfect atonement” – is found in the book Lift Him Up p. 319. “When He offered Himself on the cross, a perfect atonement was made for the sins of the people.” Now compare this with the following in Manuscript Releases, Volume 5, p. 114 in 1899. “In the council of heaven the cross was ordained as the means of atonement.” So when Ellen White uses the term “a perfect atonement” we may include a perfect sacrifice. Now we should praise God for Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and with Paul glory in the cross! What an atonement, what a price for our ransom!

The fourth statement – “a complete atonement” – is found in the book The Faith I Live By p. 91. “God has accepted the offering of His Son as a complete atonement for the sins of the world.” The same expression is used in Review and Herald September 24, 1901, “[Christ] planted the cross between heaven and earth, and when the Father beheld the sacrifice of His Son, He bowed before it in recognition of its perfection. ‘It is enough,’ He said. ‘The atonement is completed.’” These words refer specifically to Christ’s atonement on the cross for she wrote in Signs of the Times July 31, 1901, “As [Christ] hung on the cross, He could say, ‘It is finished.’ The demands of justice were satisfied. The way to the throne of grace was opened to every sinner.”

All these quotes refer to Christ’s atonement on the cross. But those words, “open the way to the throne of God for every sinner,” reveals that the atonement of the cross was the beginning of His atoning work for sinners and that He went to heaven to complete the work He had begun at the cross. In heaven’s sanctuary He now pleads His blood before the Father providing forgiveness and cleansing and a blotting out of sin from the sinner’s records.

Now this brings us to the fifth expression – “making an atonement.” Immediately you notice that this is written in the present tense. It could not mean the sacrifice of the cross which took place nearly two thousand years ago. Making an atonement means that an atonement is now in the process – at the present time. This quotation is found in Great Controversy p. 623, “Now, while our great High Priest is making the atonement for us, we should seek to become perfect in Christ.”

Now, from these five quotations you can clearly see that the Spirit of Prophecy teaches a dual atonement. The one taking place at the cross, a payment for the sins of the world, and the other, an atonement now taking place in the heavenly sanctuary for the repentant in cleansing and blotting out of sin. This is emphasized in another quotation found in Review and Herald May 6, 1884. “Christ has been manifest in the flesh; his blood has been poured out, the perfect sacrifice that is our atonement for the sins of the world; and now as our Mediator stands before the mercy-seat making an atonement for his people.”

All these quotations are in agreement with one another and summarized in the Great Controversy p. 489. “The intercession of Christ in man’s behalf in the sanctuary above is as essential to the plan of salvation as was His death upon the cross. By His death He began that work which after His resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven.” The atonement now taking place in heaven has to do with the results of the investigative judgment which began in 1844 for all those who professed to believe in the atonement made at the cross. If found worthy of the atonement of the cross they were provided with forgiveness and cleansing that is involved with the blotting out of their sins from the books of heaven. Thus justified, they are clothed with Christ’s righteousness.

How important that God’s remnant understand the sanctuary message. “The correct understanding of the ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our faith.” Evangelism p. 221. We should daily keep in mind that “we are in the great day of atonement and the sacred work of Christ for the people of God that is going on at the present time in the heavenly sanctuary should be our constant study.” Testimonies for the Church, Volume 5, p. 520. It is now, in this investigative judgment, that our characters are involved.

In Testimonies to Ministers p. 439 it reveals, “God’s claim is placed in one scale and man’s character in the other and by the balance of the heavenly sanctuary every man’s doom is fixed for eternity.” What a solemn thought. We are involved with the scales of heaven – not man’s good deeds vs. bad deeds but it is the ten commandments vs. our character.

Consider this: “Each one in the day of investigative judgment will stand in character as he really is; he will render an individual account to God. Every word uttered, every departure from integrity, every action that sullies the soul, will be weighed in the balances of the sanctuary. Memory will be true and vivid in condemnation of the guilty one, who in that day is found wanting. The mind will recall all the thoughts and acts of the past; the whole life will come in review like the scenes in a panorama. Thus every one will be condemned or acquitted out of his own mouth, and the righteousness of God will be vindicated.” Review and Herald November 4, 1884.

In Bible Commentary, Volume 7A, p. 464 we are further enlightened. “The atonement of Christ (that’s in heaven) is not a mere skillful way of having our sins pardoned; it is the divine remedy for the cure of transgression and the restoration of spiritual health. It is the heaven-ordained means by which the righteousness of Christ may be not only upon us, but in our hearts and characters.” Surely we are living in the time spoken of in Revelation 19:7, “The marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.” This is no time for celebration; this is a time for a call to prepare for the final atonement in which Christ our High Priest will impute His righteousness to us and impart sanctification, in placing His robe of righteousness upon us.

I beg you, ponder the following found in Messages to Young People, p. 35: “The righteousness by which we are justified is imputed; the righteousness by which we are sanctified is imparted. The first is our title to heaven, the second is our fitness for heaven.” But today, instead of our desperate need for a call from leadership for a revival of holy living in preparation for heaven’s final atonement, we are daily faced with an ever-increasing incredible apostasy – the result of General Conference leaders who dared to tamper with the sanctuary truth, removing the pillar of God’s truth in order to please the Philistine’s of Babylon; that we might become buddies and teach their half-truth doctrines. It is accepting the cross but negating the sanctuary doctrine.

The results are tragic. Today we hear mostly of love as revealed in Christ’s atonement at the cross, that salvation was completed on Calvary, that nothing more is needed to be saved. Thus the sanctuary message is well-nigh forgotten. The liberals among us continue to teach a complete, unconditional salvation at the cross, which reveals their unbelief in the Testimonies and does away with the sanctuary doctrine. Such apostasy is clearly revealed in their writings. “When, therefore, one hears an Adventist say or read in Adventist literature – even in the writings of Ellen G. White – that Christ is making an atonement now, it should be understood that we mean simply that Christ is now making application of the benefits of the sacrificial atonement He made on the cross.” Questions on Doctrine p. 354, 355.How clever these explanations of those trained in the theology of Babylon’s institutions.

I continue to quote the New Theology, “Jesus appeared in the presence of God for us but it was not with the hope of obtaining something for us at that time or some future time. No, He had already obtained it for us on the cross.” Question on Doctrines p. 381.

And our Ministerial Department of the General Conference teaches this false doctrine. “The sacrificial act on the cross is a complete and final atonement for man’s sin.” Ministry Magazine February, 1957.
In the light of what the Spirit of Prophecy stated, these three quotations sound unbelievable but they are the present-day teachings of a church in apostasy, contrary to divine inspiration.

“There is to be no change in the general features of our work. It is to stand as clear and distinct as prophecy has made it. We are to enter into no confederacy with the world supposing by so doing we could accomplish more. … No line of truth that has made the Seventh-day Adventist people what they are is to be weakened. We have the old landmarks of truth, experience, and duty, and we are to stand firmly in defense of our principles, in full view of the world.” Testimonies for the Church, Volume 6, p. 17.

Again, “Spurious scientific theories are coming in as a thief in the night stealing away the landmarks and undermining the pillars of our faith. … You know that Satan will come in to deceive if possible the very elect.” Medical Ministry p. 87. And boldly she declares, “The professed people of God have compromised with the power of darkness.” Testimonies for the Church, Volume 5, p. 222.

I continue, “I am charged to tell our people that some do not realize that the devil has device after device that he carries out in ways that make sinners out of saints. I tell you now, that when I am laid to rest great changes will take place.” Elmshaven February 24, 1915.

And then she wrote just before she died, “One thing it is certain is soon to be realized, — the great apostasy, which is developing and increasing and waxing stronger, will continue to do so until the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout.” Series 7B, p. 56, 57. And then listen to this, “Are we hoping to see the whole church revived? That time will never come.” Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 122. What a sad picture of the results of a church in rebellion.

May I suggest that you read the first chapter of Isaiah to see how God reacts to such incredible apostasy. This chapter gives a comparison between Israel of old and God’s Israel of today. Time will not permit me to read this whole chapter but I shall close by reading verses nine, ten, and twenty-one to twenty-seven. “Except the Lord of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah. Here the word of the Lord, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

“How is the faithful city become an harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water: Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. Therefore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies: And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy sin: And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city. Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.” Praise the Lord.

God will soon arise, when the Sunday law is made mandatory world-wide, and separate the tares from the wheat, presenting to His universe a church without blemish; a very small remnant who have held fast to the pillars of faith, obedient to His commandments and the faith of Jesus. And by His grace, I intend to be one of them. What about you?

Let us pray, Thank Thee, dear Father, for making it possible through the two atonements of Thy son, Jesus, that we may soon live with Thee in the earth made new. In His name we pray, Amen.

The servant of the Lord must not strive

15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Pope Attempts History Revision

Pope Attempts History Revision

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A recent article challenges the Pope’s account of the historical relationship between the Roman Catholic church and the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler.

The pope is at it again. In a speech before the Queen of England last week, Pope Benedict XVI carefully revised the history of what led up to the scourge of Nazism during World War II. He said, “Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live” (emphasis mine throughout).

But was it really a godless society in Germany that led to the Nazi atrocities? Benedict, who was a registered member of Hitler Youth at 14 and served in the Germany Army at 16, said he recalled the regime’s attitude toward religion and Christian pastors “who spoke the truth in love, opposed the Nazis and paid for that opposition with their lives.” ...

Benedict concluded, “As we reflect on the sobering lessons of the atheist extremism of the 20th century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society. …”

Of course, it was actually the inclusion of “God” and religious ideology that provided the Nazi regime its greatest source of inspiration. Adolf Hitler himself was a deeply religious man and wanted to be seen as a religious figure.

“We are not a movement—rather we are a religion,” Hitler said about his regime (Robert G.L. Waite, The Psychopathic God: Adolf Hitler).

“Christ was the greatest early fighter in the battle against the world enemy, the Jews,” Hitler said in 1926. “The work that Christ started but could not finish, I—Adolf Hitler—will conclude” (John Toland, Adolf Hitler). He even said he learned from the Jesuit order “above all.”

While other influences, like social Darwinism, might have contributed to Nazi doctrine, this fact remains: Most Nazis believed in God and claimed to be doing the work of God.

And to suggest that the Vatican stood against Hitler’s psychopathic religion is yet another blatant attempt to revise the historical record.

The Vatican was actually Nazism’s chief enabler (“Benedict Revises the Historical Record," www.thetrumpet.com, Sept. 24, 2010).

Inspired commentary
Inspiration has described the continuing nature of the papacy.

The papacy is just what prophecy declared that she would be, the apostasy of the latter times. 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4. It is a part of her policy to assume the character which will best accomplish her purpose; but beneath the variable appearance of the chameleon she conceals the invariable venom of the serpent. “Faith ought not to be kept with heretics, nor persons suspected of heresy” (Lenfant, volume 1, page 516), she declares. Shall this power, whose record for a thousand years is written in the blood of the saints, be now acknowledged as a part of the church of Christ? (The Great Controversy, p. 571)

Rest For The Weary

In the Christian’s home in glory
There remains a land of rest;
There my Savior’s gone before me,
To fulfill my soul’s request.

Refrain

There is rest for the weary,
There is rest for the weary,
There is rest for the weary,
There is rest for you.
On the other side of Jordan,
In the sweet fields of Eden,
Where the tree of life is blooming,
There is rest for you.

He is fitting up my mansion,
Which eternally shall stand,
For my stay shall not be transient,
In that holy, happy land.

Refrain

Pain and sickness ne’er shall enter,
Grief nor woe my lot shall share;
But, in that celestial center,
I a crown of life shall wear.

Refrain

Death itself shall then be vanquished,
And his sting shall be withdrawn;
Shout for gladness, O ye ransomed!
Hail with joy the rising morn.

Where is the "Thus saith the Lord"?

"God will have a people upon the earth to maintain the Bible, and the Bible only, as the standard of all doctrines, and the basis of all reforms. The opinions of learned men, the deductions of science, the creeds or decisions of ecclesiastical councils, as numerous and discordant as are the churches which they represent, the voice of the majority,-- not one or all of these should be regarded as evidence for or against any point of religious faith. Before accepting any doctrine or precept, we should demand a plain "Thus saith the Lord" in its support. Satan is constantly endeavoring to attract attention to man in the place of God. He leads the people to look to bishops, to pastors, to professors of theology, as their guides, instead of searching the Scriptures to learn their duty for themselves."
The Great Controvery, 1888, p.595.

Shabbat Shalom

Fire and Brimstone

What part of Fire and Brimstone don't you understand?

I've heard pastors referred to as Fire And Brimstone preachers; who prefer to call sin by its name, and prophesy judgement upon wickedness in contrast to the more popular world-pleasing go along to get along sermons. The Bible clearly foretells that humanity will not discern its sinfulness, but will rather substitute truth with a spirit of error.

The last days are upon us, and nothing is more indicative of this than to read the stories that are featured on the media as normal or desirable. A wicked and rebellious people will always ask its prophets and priests to preach unto them peace and prosperity when only destruction awaits such a civilization.“Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits .” (Isaiah 30:10)

"Speak unto us smooth things", is what the post-modern world loving people request. Yet, prophecy shows that only Fire and Brimstone await; Not a rainbow as was shown to Noah after he and his family were delivered from The Flood, but rather Fire and Brimstone as befitting a hypocritically myopic people.

In the face of all the corrupted lifestyles that people lead today, they still expect a blessing from Heaven. Instead the Bible states that the Lord will do the same thing to the sinful unrepentant sinners that he did to Sodom and Gomorrah:

23The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

24Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

25And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

Genesis 19:23-25.

9And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

10The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

11And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 14:9-12.

Obama loses, then goes on fabulous asian tour

Yesterday President Obama stated that he was 'Shellacked" by the losses on Tuesday; Today he offered the Republicans the opportunity for Bi-partisan support on 'his' agenda. He is open to suggestions on how to go forward with "his programs". What arrogance? He didn't get shellacked, I think he went out and got plastered after the dismal loss to the Republicans. Yet, his ego is still paramount.

Now he can go off on his Asean junket. Going Forward to India, Indonesia, North Korea, and Japan.

It's just as he said the recession is over. Can't we see that we are going forward? At $200 Million per day. I think Obama calls this a "Jobless Recovery".

"The Audacity of let them eat cake".

Those greedy people that make more than $250,000 a year can't have the Bush tax cuts.

Catholic Church -- Blasphemy as a Way of Life

I miss the Catholic Church. It's the not the archaic rules and the mantra of mortal unworthiness in weekly prayers but the community bonding and sweet rituals of the house of God. The experience floods my mind with memories of growing up in the Midwest with many of those happy childhood events encased in Catholicism. Unfortunately with a heavy heart, I have decided I cannot support the Catholic Church anymore. It seems hypocritical for me to use the buildings as a way to talk to God and bless my sins away with holy water, when the leaders of this religion continue to create a conveyor belt for serial pedophiles to administer to our children. This abuse is perpetrated under the guise of a saintly umbrella and spreads further damage amongst us mere mortals. Sadly, in the Catholic Church's initial quest to serve a higher being the institution has evolved into a group that deems itself above the law, almost God-like-perhaps even blasphemous.

Bay area resident Joey Piscitelli knows firsthand the damage the Catholic Church and its priests have caused to him and his family. Joey was a student at Salesian High School in Richmond, California, when he was repeatedly abused in his freshman and sophomore years (1969-1971) by the vice principal Rev. Stephan Whelan. "I think he picked me out because I was a runt. I looked like I was 8 or 9. "

At the time of the incidents when Joey spoke out, the school counselors and the principal pressured Joey and his mother, a school employee, into silence. They even threatened to kick Joey out of school. The archbishop of San Francisco, Cardinal William Levada, also helped with the cover up and continued to deny knowledge of the abuses 35 years later when Joey faced them in a courtroom. The jury found Reverend Whelan guilty of abuse. Levada kept Whelan in his position in ministry at St. Peter and Paul's in San Francisco clear up to the court jury verdict of guilty against Whelan. Cardinal Levada and Bishop Wester of San Francisco claimed the Independent Review Board did an extensive investigation into Joey's abuse in 2003 and in 2004, but the head of the IRB, Dr. James Jenkins, stated to the San Francisco Weekly that "the IRB never did an investigation into Piscitellis claim at all.

That same year that Mr. Piscitelli went to trial there were approximately two thousand cases lodged against the Catholic Church for sexual abuse. These cases were consolidated under "Clergy 1," Clergy 2" and "Clergy 3." Northern and Southern California lead attorneys were Ray Boucher (Southern Cal) and Larry Drivon and Rick Simons (North Cal) Joey was represented by Rick Simons of Hayward.

Most of those cases were settled; only five actually made it inside a San Francisco Bay courtroom. Two of those cases were hung juries; in another two cases the priests had already died. (All of the cases had an admission by the church that the accused priest was an either admitted molester or there was tangible evidence that the priest had multiple accusers or was convicted.) The one remaining case from that year was Mr. Piscitelli's. His case was the only one that went to jury trial, with no evidence at all. He was awarded $600,000 dollars. $300,00 of that money is supposed to be paid by Father Whelan the priest that abused him. He has not seen a penny of that money. The lawyers and Joey split the other 50 percent. In addition, Joey also had to cover the hard costs from the trial leaving him less than 20 percent of the jury award. The church spent an estimated five million to defend their priest, Fr. Stephen Whelan in court. Reverend Whelan was found guilty of molestation by the jury in Case # MSC 03=02976-JCCP -4359 -- Contra Costa County. Still, Whelan has yet to pay compensation to his victim.

Joey was almost lucky. Since so many of these cases are settled before they reach a courtroom, lawsuits are dismissed, statute of limitations expire, many of these priests continue to operate without parishioners knowing anything about their record. The only way that Joey felt he could take on the establishment was by bringing the charges to a civil courtroom. Joey's commitment to take Whelan to court took a lot of courage. By doing this, he also put on record that Whelan was accused and found guilty by civil jury trial. This is critical as many of these cases never get to the point where the priest is "outed" and we can begin to protect our children.

There is a statute limitation in criminal trial. That limitation is seven years from the act or to the ripe old age of 26. For many of us survivors the idea that you can get to these suppressed memories or sort through enough of the trauma to speak out about it at this age is absurd. The law and its limitations prohibit many from naming and shaming their perpetrators, which can dramatically affect their healing. Worse, the average pedophile molests 35 kids before they get caught. The statute of limitations hurts those victimized AND create more victims.

Under our current system -- the church and its priests are well protected from the consequences of that "dirty little club" they have formed. "You have to remember," Joey says "when a child gets kidnapped or abused, under federal law-local and national law enforcement come in to solve the case. This is not the situation in the Catholic Church. The church's laws are administered under Canon law, not secular law. This means that a priest cannot be prosecuted in a traditional court of law after the criminal statute of limitations has expired.

According to Cardinal Levada, canon law supersedes secular law. For those of us non-lawyers, canon law was developed in Europe in the middle ages, according to the "canon's or teachings of the church. Secular law, on the other hand, is law of a political State -- a government -- and it isn't necessarily based on religion.

Why this is important to the overall discussion of priests abuse is that canon law is overseen by the church and not a neutral party without bias or vested interest secrecy. One has to look closely at the Canon lawyers representing the church to get an inkling of how deep pervasive the culture of abuse. Let's take Gregory Ingalls, it is clearly documented that he has a history of sexual abuse. This did not preclude Levada from appointing him as the church's canon lawyer. In fact, Levada has spent significant dollars defending Ingalls in such cases.

If the continued cases of abuse are not shocking enough, in 2005 Cardinal Levada was blessed with the position of Prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith -- the third most powerful position in the Catholic Church. This office handles any issue that threatens Church doctrine; an early version of this office targeted "heretics" in the Papal Inquisition, and recently this office condemned same sex marriage and abortion as "evils." Currently the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith is busy handling the sexual abuse cases, with none other than Cardinal Levada as their leader.

The number of cases and priests abuse allegations continues and yet, the focus of the Prefect is curious. Justine McCarthy of the Sunday Times said it best, he wrote, "On May 29, 2008 Levada issued a decree that any woman attempting to be ordained a priest, or any bishop who assists her, would be excommunicated. The gravity with which the powers-that-be in Rome regard the outrage of a woman's priestly vocation is reflected in the severity of the punishment. For priests who rape children, the worst possible punishment is defrocking, but a woman attempting to join the clerical club is denied the sacraments -- including the last rites -- and her eternal soul is damned. A Louisiana-born priest, Roy Bourgeois, was excommunicated in 2008 for participating in a "mock ordination" of a woman. "

Whose souls should be damned, those men who rape children or a woman who wants to join the clerical club; according the Catholic Church it's the woman. Perhaps their fear is that women would not tolerate the abuse of children.

How can any true Catholic feel that there is remorse and a deep commitment to the extermination of the culture of abuse in the church with the continued denial from those in command? How can church members trust church leaders to effectively rid the church of pedophiles when it is clear that they are putting people in positions who are at least sympathetic to the abusers, and arrogant in their presumption that we trust they will do the right thing. The answer is church members cannot trust that Catholic leaders are doing the right thing. In fact, the church is operating from business as usual, and the flock continues to follow.

Joey is one of those members who has left the church. When he and I met last year at a screening of a movie on abuse, we struck up a conversation about his volunteer work with Snap, the survivor network for those abused by priests.

This organization provides support and services to assist victims in the healing process. The other primary goal of this nonprofit is to protest and rid the church of pedophiles. A very daunting task particularly when so many victims keep their abuse a secret. Joey personally gets 10 calls a month, he has been involved in this work for 10 years - -do the math. That is 1,000 calls. Those 1,000 individuals that called Joey, only 1.5 percent had reported the abuse to the police.

Joey was recently one of the 200 male victims of sexual abuse that was invited to an Oprah! taping last week and the show airs tomorrow.

Her upcoming co-host for this event is Tyler Perry, the second richest man in Hollywood and a survivor as well. He found both Oprah and Tyler articulate and concerned about this issue, but he came away from that event disheartened. The message for him that came from that event was forgiveness to the priests who molested you. The question he has, and the one that continues to haunt him, is how can you forgive when these priests continue to perpetrate this horrendous acts on children. He came away disheartened.

It is hard to imagine that from the pope on down this issue will ever be truly dealt with unless the culture is changed, the priests are tried outside of Canon law and statutes of limitations are revised. It is hard to fathom that people around the world are not outraged at the continued raping of or our children by the very priests we offer out trust.

The church is one of the oldest and largest Christian organizations in the world. It is also one of the wealthiest. This religious order of men may hide their evil behind the religious robes and fancy sermons and to trusting humans who want to believe in their goodness, but this cannot be hidden from God. None of the pope's posturing or denial will protect their abominable behavior from God's wrath.

I borrow a few lines from the Apostle's Creed...

He ascended into heaven,
and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

To the pope and the church -- may's God mercy include putting you in a room with all of your victims.
