"Does such a being really exist?"

None are in greater danger from the influence of evil spirits than those who, notwithstanding the direct and ample testimony of the Scriptures, deny the existence and agency of the devil and his angels. So long as we are ignorant of their wiles, they have almost inconceivable advantage; many give heed to their suggestions while they suppose themselves to be following the dictates of their own wisdom. This is why, as we approach the close of time, when Satan is to work with greatest power to deceive and destroy, he spreads everywhere the belief that he does not exist. It is his policy to conceal himself and his manner of working.

There is nothing that the great deceiver fears so much as that we shall become acquainted with his devices. The better to disguise his real character and purposes, he has caused himself to be so represented as to excite no stronger emotion than ridicule or contempt. He is well pleased to be painted as a ludicrous or loathsome object, misshapen, half animal and half human. He is pleased to hear his name used in sport and mockery by those who think themselves intelligent and well informed.

It is because he has masked himself with consummate skill that the question is so widely asked: "Does such a being really exist?" It is an evidence of his success that theories giving the lie to the plainest testimony of the Scriptures are so generally received in the religious world. And it is because Satan can most readily control the minds of those who are unconscious of his influence, that the word of God gives us so many examples of his malignant work, unveiling before us his secret forces, and thus placing us on our guard against his assaults.

The power and malice of Satan and his host might justly alarm us were it not that we may find shelter and deliverance in the superior power of our Redeemer. We carefully secure our houses with bolts and locks to protect our property and our lives from evil men; but we seldom think of the evil angels who are constantly seeking access to us, and against whose attacks we have, in our own strength, no method of defense. If permitted, they can distract our minds, disorder and torment our bodies, destroy our possessions and our lives. Their only delight is in misery and destruction. Fearful is the condition of those who resist the divine claims and yield to Satan's temptations, until God gives them up to the control of evil spirits. But those who follow Christ are ever safe under His watchcare. Angels that excel in strength are sent from heaven to protect them. The wicked one cannot break through the guard which God has stationed about His people.

The Threefold Union of Religion

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Rev. 16:13, 14.

By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation [the United States] will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near.

Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience. ..

Papists, Protestants, and worldling will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium.

When our nation [the United States] shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism.

Three day metro-wide disaster drill will simulate bioterrorism attack

on May 20, 2013 at 11:52 AM, updated May 20, 2013 at 4:55 PM

The U. S. Department of Homeland Security conducted a full scale simulated terrorist attack conducted at Portland International Raceway in October 2007. The event called Top Officials Exercise or, TOPOFF 4, was based on a detonation of a dirty bomb in Portland. Here, officials document firefighters assisting injured persons. A similar drill will unfold over three days starting Tuesday.Brent Wojahn/The Oregonian 2007

As preparedness drills go, the 3-day PACE (Portland Area Capabilities Exercise) Setter bioterrorism exercise that starts Tuesday is big. The exercise--which simulates a terrorist attack involving a biological weapon--will unfold across 50 different venues and some 65 jurisdictions from Gresham to Tigard.

Officials say it’s the largest such exercise undertaken since 2007, when a drill known as TOPOFF tested a simulated response to a dirty bomb explosion in Portland.

“Exercises such as this are critical to identifying strengths and weaknesses in our response capabilities and to understanding the complexities of multi-state, multi-agency incident response operations,” said Scott Porter, director of Washington County Emergency Management and co-chair of the exercise process.

The exercise is designed to test the region’s plans, operations, policies and response to a widespread, complex public health emergency.

The TOPOFF drill in 2007 simulated a dirty bomb explosion in Portland.fbi.gov

The purpose of the exercise is to test the region’s ability to respond to a complex public health incident affecting multiple agencies across several political boundaries. The exercise will address policy, plans and operations related to bioterrorism incident mobilization and response.

The imagined scenarios will play out at seven main locations, organizers said, on Wednesday and Thursday; Tuesday is reserved for planning and set-up.

But please note: These events are not designed to be visible to the public, but will be open for media coverage.

--Camp Withycombe in Clackamas: First responders will triage, decontaminate and treat patients at a simulated mass casualty incident. In addition to ground ambulances, LifeFlight helicopters will land at the camp.

--Portland Basic Earthquake Emergency Communication Node or BEECN, where volunteers will set up a tent and radio equipment at one of Portland’s 48 BEECN sites.

http://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/article/423717

--Washington County Emergency Operations Center: A behind the scenes look at the how the county organizes the region’s response.

--Gresham Medical Care Point: More than 100 high school students will participate, presenting various symptoms to first responders. Thirty victims will be evacuated to hospitals for decontamination by medical personnel. Two students will make the trip via LifeFlight helicopter.

--Tigard POD, or Point of Dispensing: Volunteers will distribute mock medical countermeasures to participants.

--Fort Vancouver. Police and fire teams will remove simulated victims for triage
and treatment.

--Kellogg Middle School in Portland. Similar to plans for Fort Vancouver. ¶

“We want to make sure if and when this happens we are prepared as possible, said Kama Simonds, spokeswoman for the Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization. “It’s not an exam with a grade, it’s an opportunity to see where we can improve.”

At the same time, Southwest Washington emergency managers and first responders will also conduct a drill, this one known as WASABE (Washington State Annual Bioterrorism Exercise.)

This too will be a full-scale exercise involving local and state public health, emergency managers, hospitals, law enforcement and the Region IV Medical Reserve Corps. The Fort Vancouver event is not part of WASABE.

Massive Tornado Barrels Through Oklahoma City Suburb

Block after block of Moore, Okla., lay in ruins Monday afternoon

BY ASSOCIATED PRESS Updated May 20, 2013, 8:19 p.m. ET

MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- A monstrous tornado as much as a mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods with winds up to 200 mph, setting buildings on fire and landing a direct blow on an elementary school.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office says 37 people have been killed. Spokeswoman Amy Elliott says the death toll is expected to rise. Elliott didn't know how many of those killed were children.

The storm laid waste to scores of buildings in Moore, south of the city. Block after block of the community lay in ruins, with heaps of debris piled up where homes used to be. Cars and trucks were left crumpled on the roadside.

WATCH LIVE: Weather Channel Coverage of Tornado Devastation

The National Weather Service issued an initial finding that the tornado was an EF-4 on the enhanced Fujita scale, the second most-powerful type of twister.

In video of the storm, the dark funnel cloud could be seen marching slowly across the green landscape. As it churned through the community, the twister scattered shards of wood, pieces of insulation, awnings, shingles and glass all over the streets.

Volunteers and first responders raced to search the debris for survivors.

At Plaza Towers Elementary School, the storm tore off the roof, knocked down walls and turned the playground into a mass of twisted plastic and metal.

Several children were pulled alive from the rubble. Rescue workers passed the survivors down a human chain to a triage center in the parking lot.

James Rushing, who lives across the street from the school, heard reports of the approaching tornado and ran to the school, where his 5-year-old foster son, Aiden, attends classes. Rushing believed he would be safer there.

"About two minutes after I got there, the school started coming apart," he said.

The students were placed in the restroom.

"There's no safe room in the school. There will be," said Rushing, who said his home was virtually destroyed.

Oklahoma City Police Capt. Dexter Nelson said downed power lines and open gas lines posed a risk in the aftermath of the system.

The same suburb was hit hard by a tornado in 1999. That storm had the distinction of producing the highest winds ever recorded near the earth's surface - 302 mph.

Obama Advisor Dan Pfeiffer: Scandals are all trumped up by Republicans

nomorcocktails

Published on May 19, 2013

On Meet the Press Dan Pfeiffer said that there is not some big cloud of scandal over the WH and that this all the fault of the GOP - that they are dragging Washington through a swap of partisan fishing expeditions and trumped charges. And somehow Obama is above it all because he has to get back to the business of the American People.

Bob Schieffer Tears Into WH Adviser Over Response To Scandals: 'Is The President Out Of Touch?'

WeAreTheSavageNation

Published on May 19, 2013

5/19/13 - White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer must not have particularly enjoyed himself this weekend, given that his Sunday show appearances have been defensive at best and contentious at worst. CBS' Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer accounted for the latter as he grilled Pfeiffer on the White House response to the issues — and why the administration pleads ignorance when things go wrong. Cutting to the chase, Schieffer questioned whether the White House is approaching the issues in earnest ("Does that mean you don't take any of this seriously?"), which Pfeiffer quickly denied. The chief of staff, he explained, was arguing that: "This is the Republican playbook here which is try, when they don't have a positive agenda, try to drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped up hearings and false allegations."

"You know, I don't want to compare this in any way to Watergate," Schieffer responded. "I do not think this is Watergate by any stretch. But you weren't born then I would guess, but I have to tell you that is exactly the approach that the Nixon administration took. They said, 'These are all second-rate things. We don't have time for this. We have to devote our time to the people's business.' You're taking exactly the same line that they did."

Pfeiffer clarified that the IRS actions were "inexcusable" and demand action — citing to generic points about top-down reviews, et cetera. It's "very difficult," Schieffer argued, to understand how the White House would have been ignorant to the goings-on within the agency. Pfeiffer claimed it was so, as Schieffer continued to express skepticism.

"Is this president out of touch?" the CBS host asked, addressing the talk about Obama often appearing to be a bystander. The "actual, real scandal" would have been if the president had interfered with an investigation, Pfeiffer countered.

Schieffer pressed on though: Later in the interview, he denied any desire to be "argumentative," but pointed out that when the executive branch does something right (e.g. killing Osama bin Laden), the White House has no "hesitancy" in taking credit.

"But with all of these things, when these things happen, you seem to send out officials many times who don't even seem to know what has happened," he added, as contrast. "And I use as an example of that Susan Rice who had no connection whatsoever to the events that took place in Benghazi, and yet she was sent out, appeared on this broadcast, and other Sunday broadcasts, five days after it happens. And I'm not here to get in an argument with you about who changed which word in the talking points and all that. The bottom line is what she told the American people that day bore no resemblance to what had happened on the ground in an incident where four Americans were killed."

Not quite responding to the point Schieffer was making, Pfeiffer reverted to the much-repeated argument about how the administration put forth information as they received it.

Schieffer reiterated that he was speaking about the "PR plan."

"Why did you do that?" he asked. "Why didn't the secretary of state come and tell us what they knew and if you knew nothing say, 'We don't know yet'? Why didn't the White House chief of staff come out? I mean I would, and I mean this as no disrespect to you — why are you here today? Why isn't the White House chief of staff here to tell us what happened?"

Unsurprisingly, Pfeiffer didn't broach those questions, rhetorical or not.

Chris Wallace GRILLS White House Adviser Dan Pfeiffer Over Benghazi Emails, Talking Points

Published on May 19, 2013

dan pfeiffer chris wallace fox news sunday | Dan Pfeiffer made the Sunday show rounds this week, including a stop at Fox News Sunday, where Chris Wallace pressed him on the administration's handling of and response to the Benghazi attack. Wallace persisted on the topic of the emails about the talking points in particular — but the two couldn't manage to agree.

Wallace began by questioning Pfeiffer about what President Obama did the night of the attack and whether he was in the situation room — but Pfeiffer said Obama was kept updated, but didn't provide specifics, contending that which room Obama was in is "a largely irrelevant fact."

"Where is he while all this is going on?" Wallace asked. As Pfeiffer replied that "this has been testified to," Wallace argued, "No. No one knows where he was or how he was involved."

"The assertion from Republicans that somehow the president allowed this to happen or didn't take action is offensive," Pfeiffer stated. "There's no evidence to support it."

With that, Wallace moved on to the topic of talking points the emails the White House has released. Pointing to the White House adjustment that there was one stylistic adjustment to the talking points, Wallace remarked, "Any fair reading of the emails, just the two I read — that's totally misleading."

Pfeiffer's response pointed to emails "doctored" by Republicans in an effort to "smear the president." Wallace countered that his question was based on accurate emails, as Pfeiffer asserted that emails contradict GOP conspiracy theories. The pair clashed over the talking points' mention of the attack being sparked by protests — whether in Cairo or over a video. Pfeiffer remained defensive, as Wallace concluding by agreeing to disagree.

Alarm at Spain's economic woes

The General Secretary of the Commission of European Bishops' Conferences (Comece) this week said he "broadly agreed" with the Archbishop of Toledo, who called for a change of direction in the Spanish economy to avoid a collapse of the political system. "The situation in Europe has become deeply worrying," Fr Patrick Daly told The Tablet. "There are some huge tensions in the European Union family now."

Archbishop Braulio Rodriguez had told The Telegraph: "Unemployment has reached tremendous levels and austerity cuts don't seem to be producing results. There is deep unease across the whole society, and it is not just in Spain. We have to give people some hope or this is going to foment conflict and mutual hatred."

However, Fr Daly emphasised that Comece remains deeply committed to Europe and does not take a position on whether any particular country would be better off outside the euro.

The Billion Dollar Data Centers

By: Rich Miller
April 29th, 2013

Maiden. Council Bluffs. Boydton. Bluffdale. And now Lenoir and perhaps Altoona. These are the cities you’d never heard of that have become the homes of billion-dollar server farms.

Your iTunes downloads, Facebook posts and YouTube videos travel through these small rural communities en route to your desktop and mobile device. The growth of the digital economy is not just reshaping how we use the Internet, but creating a new data center geography in which armadas of servers now reside in suburbs or rural towns, often outnumbering the humans in these communities.

The economics of hyper-scale computing favor cheap land and cheap electricity, which are unavailable in many of the historic Internet hubs, which are located near major cities. This has created an unusual side effect – major data centers are transforming the economies of small towns around the U.S., placing them on the front line of the race to build out the infrastructure that runs the Internet.

A handful of these towns have received concentrated investment of more than $1 billion on a campus of server farms. Google, Apple, Microsoft have each deployed these billion-dollar data centers in little-known towns, and Facebook is not far behind.

Symbols of the New Economy

These projects have been hailed by governors and economic development officials, who see data centers operated by Internet titans as symbols of the new economy. Huge server farms are hailed as saviors of rural communities, which have often been abandoned by the factories that were once the lifeblood of the local economy.

Yet data centers don’t fit neatly into the traditional model of economic development engines. They have been reliable generators of hundreds of construction jobs, which are welcome but temporary. But the advanced level of automation at work in data centers translates into a limited number of permanent full-time jobs, and much of the investment arrives in the form of servers, generators and UPS equipment.

Here’s a look at the billion-dollar data centers:

Maiden, North Carolina – This town of 3,300 people in Catawba County is home to the iDataCenter, Apple’s first company-built data center facility. The campus began with a 500,000 square foot main building and a 30,000 square foot “tactical” data center next store. Apple has since added two massive solar arrays and a “fuel cell farm” featuring Bloom Energy Servers fueled by gas from a nearby landfill.
Council Bluffs, Iowa – Google kicked off the data center craze in Iowa in 2007 when it announced plans to invest $600 million in a new facility in this town of 60,000, located just across the Missouri River from Omaha. Google clearly loves the location, as three successive rounds of expansion have raised its investment in Council Bluffs to more than $1.5 billion.
Boydton, Virginia – With its latest expansion, Microsoft’s investment in its data center campus in southern Virginia has reached $997 million. Microsoft has built more than 316,000 square feet of data center space in Boydton, a town in Mecklenberg County with just 431 residents as of the 2010 census. The company plans two more phases at the data center, a hybrid facility that includes traditional raised-floor space as well as IT-PAC modules.
Bluffdale, Utah – The U.S. government is also in the mega-data center business with its $1 billion-plus facility for the National Security Agency (NSA). The secretive project includes a 30-megawatt first phase featuring 100,000 square feet of data center space and 900,00 square feet for technical support and administrative space. Bluffdale, a suburb of Salt Lake City, has about 7,500 residents.
Lenoir, North Carolina – This town in Caldwell County in western North Carolina is home to 18,000 residents and more than 50,000 servers. Google opened a $600 million data center in 2007, and this month expanded its investment to more than $1.2 billion.

There are two other examples of data center clusters that have transformed small rural communities:

Quincy, Washington: This town of 5,000 residents in central Washington state is home to data centers for Microsoft, Yahoo, Sabey, Dell, Intuit and Vantage, which likely total more than $1 billion in investment. The server farms are attracted by the extraordinarily cheap hydro-electric power from dams on the Columbia River, and a climate ideal for using fresh air to cool servers.
Prineville, Oregon – Facebook put this central Oregon town of 10,000 residents on the map when it picked Prineville as the location for its first company-built data center. Apple has also decided to build a major server farm in Prineville. Between the two companies, Prineville may eventually one McDonald’s and six buildings filled with servers housing the world’s music, photos and status updates.

These locations all offer abundant land for massive facilities that can house of tens of thousand of servers, and the electricity to power these armadas of servers. They offer tax incentives that make it cheaper for data center operators to buy their land and servers. In many cases, they also offer the opportunity to cool servers using outside air instead of power-hungry chillers, slashing the cost of operating the data center.
The Economic Impact of a Data Center

What have these data center developments meant for these communities? Some of the best data comes from Quincy, Washington, where construction of Yahoo and Microsoft data centers boosted property tax values in the city of Quincy from $260 million in 2006 to $764 million in 2009. As a result, property tax collections grew by more than $1.4 million over the period, while school taxes in Quincy grew by $1.6 million.

An aerial view of the Apple data center in Maiden, North Carolina. The company has invested more than $1 billion in the data center in Maiden, a town of 3,300. (Photo: Apple)

Quincy used its higher tax revenues to improve city services, including improvements to its library, senior center, museum and playground equipment. Tax revenues were also been earmarked for new equipment for the police and fire departments and emergency medical services.

Facebook has invested $210 million to build the first phase of its new data center in Prineville, according to a study commissioned by the social network. About $75.7 million of that capital spending went to Oregon companies and workers. Facebook employs 55 full-time or contract employees, with a total annual payroll of about $3.3 million. The average annual salary of Facebook’s data center employees is $47,200, compared to a regional average of about $35,071 in 2010.

The report from ECONorthwest found that Facebook’s capital spending created $24.4 million in economic activity, including $9.2 million in personal income and 234 jobs. These impacts include about 80 direct jobs for local construction and other workers employed on-site, and about $1.2 million in sales for local lodging, eating and drinking, and retail sectors as a result of per diem spending by non-local workers.

Investing in Local Communities

The economic cost-benefit analysis has been tougher in North Carolina, where state and local governments have been criticized for the tax breaks offered to attract Google, which are estimated to total up to $260 million over the life of the project. There have been mixed results in the effort to retrain local workers from the furniture industry to seek jobs at Google, as noted in a 2009 series by NPR.

But with Google’s investment now at $1.2 billion, local officials say it has been worth it.

“Google pushes Caldwell County into a hub for the knowledge economy of the future,” said Caldwell County Chairman Jeff Branch. “Their continued investment in the Lenoir data center is a sign of their commitment to the area. It shows in other tangible ways with community activities they do to support small business owners and students learning the science and engineering skills necessary to succeed in the future.”

Google has awarded more than $1 million in grants to Lenoir-area local schools and nonprofits since 2008, and Google employees are engaged in a variety of volunteer projects in the community, including efforts to boost education in the STEM fields (science, technology and math). The search giant has made a similar effort in the Council Bluffs community, awarding $600,000 in local grants.

Altoona Awaits Facebook

So what’s ahead for Altoona, Iowa? Facebook said last week that it would build a new data center in Altoona, a suburb of Des Moines. The company will spend $300 million in the first phase of the project, but local officials have said the project’s long-term investment could exceed $1 billion.

Facebook has been pro-active in engaging the local business community in Oregon and North Carolina. While some are quick to point out that the biggest impact of new data centers is construction jobs, the breakneck pace of Facebook’s building program has made these more like permanent jobs in these communities, according to Tom Furlong, Vice President of Site Operations at Facebook.

“We’ve basically been under construction continuously on those sites since we began in Oregon,” said Furlong.

The trend is likely to continue. As we noted last year, “as states continue to offer tax incentives for data center projects, don’t be surprised to see massive server farms pop up in towns you’ve never heard of before.”

Income and wealth in the United States today are less evenly distributed than at any time since the 1920s. One result is the emergence of a new class of plutocrats. The phenomenon is not limited to the United States: China, India, Mexico, Russia, the United Kingdom, and other states have witnessed similar changes. Freeland, a journalist and editor at Thomson Reuters, examines how this fairly diverse new class came to be and explores some of the consequences and potential implications of its rise. In a world of mass consumption, successful innovations can result in great wealth, as can any rapid social and political change, at least for those well placed or lucky enough to take advantage of new opportunities. More ominous, individuals can become fabulously wealthy at the expense of other citizens, by securing privileges from powerful government officials -- sometimes through influencing the decision-making process, sometimes through outright bribes or offers of lucrative future employment. Freeland worries about the increasing political influence of the superrich and the growing social distance between them and ordinary people. But she has surprisingly little to say about the most traditional route to plutocratic status: inherited wealth.

Tunisian police clash with Salafists over banning of annual congress

Security forces and hardline Islamists fought street battles in Tunis on Sunday, with one protester killed and 15 policemen wounded, after the authorities banned the Salafists from staging their annual congress.

The confrontations infuriated moderate Islamist Prime Minister Ali Larayedh, who for the first time linked the Salafist Ansar al-Sharia group which is considered close to al-Qaeda to "terrorism".

"Ansar al-Sharia is an illegal organisation which defies and provokes state authority," Larayedh told Tunisian state television during a visit to Qatar.

"It has ties to and is involved in terrorism," he said.

Sunday's fighting erupted when Ansar al-Sharia (Partisans of Islamic Law) urged its followers to mass in the capital's suburb of Ettadhamen in defiance of a ban on their gathering in the central city of Kairouan.

Salafists advocate an ultra-conservative brand of Sunni Islam, and Ansar al-Sharia, whose fugitive leader fought with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, does not recognise the authority of the Tunisian state.

Suppressed under president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, radical Islamists have grown increasingly assertive since the popular uprising that ousted the secular strongman in January 2011.

Islamists have been blamed for a wave of violence that has rocked the North African country, including an attack on the US embassy last September that left four assailants dead and bombings targeting shrines venerated by Sufis who follow a mystical form of Islam.

Hundreds of Salafists erected barricades in the streets of Ettadhamen, a poor neighbourhood 15 kilometres west of Tunis, and hurled rocks at police who responded with tear gas.

The security forces used armoured cars and bulldozers to destroy the barricades and gain access to Ettadhamen, a stronghold of the Salafist group.

Police closed in on the Islamists, forcing them to retreat to the neighbouring district of Intilaka where sporadic clashes continued into the early evening.

A hospital official said one protester died of gunshot wounds and the interior ministry late Sunday confirmed the death and updated the toll of wounded.

"Fifteen policemen have been wounded, three seriously including one in intensive care. Three protesters were wounded and one is dead," said interior ministry spokesman Mohamed Ali Aroui.

Mounira Ben Ghazi, a senior supervisor at Mongi Slim hospital, named the dead man as Moez Dahmani, in comments made to Express-FM radio station.

Police detained several Salafists including Ansar al-Sharia spokesman Seifeddine Rais, a police source and the movement said.

Rais said last week that the group did not need "permission from the government to preach the word of God" and warned that the authorities would be held responsible for any bloodshed.

Ansar al-Sharia had planned to hold its congress in Kairouan, the country's religious capital, but the government banned the meeting, saying it posed "a threat to public order".

The group nevertheless tried to muster support for the meeting in Kairouan, where its followers shouted insults at the police deployed in the city and clashed briefly with security forces who fired tear gas at them.

Tunisia's ruling Islamist party Ennahda, a moderate group criticised for being too lenient towards the Salafists, has hardened its stance towards the extremists in recent months.

In early May, the government said its forces were pursuing two groups in the western region bordering Algeria who are linked to al-Qaeda.

One resident of Ettadhamen said hundreds of Ansar al-Sharia supporters poured into the district after the group was prevented from meeting in Kairouan.

Some were armed with sticks and knives and waving the black flag of the movement.

A top al-Qaeda chief urged Tunisia's Salafists to ignore government provocation in order not to lose public support, the US-based SITE monitoring service said on Sunday.

"Don't you ever be provoked by the regime and its barbarism to do rash acts that might spoil your blessed popular embrace," Abu Yahya al-Shanqiti, a member of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb's sharia committee, was quoted as saying.

"Be wise and patient," he added in a message of support for Ansar al-Sharia.

Ansar al-Sharia's fugitive leader, Saif Allah Bin Hussein, a former al-Qaeda fighter in Afghanistan, warned earlier this month that he would wage war against the government, accusing it of policies in breach of Islam.

Police Chief Asks Citizens for Ammo, Gets 1,500 Round Loan Amid Strong Response

As the "Great Ammunition Shortage" continues, police departments across the country are struggling to supply their arsenals. One police chief turned to the community for help, and citizens stepped up.

In Proctor, Minnesota, police chief Walter Wobig says that his suppliers have told him he'll have to wait "months" for the 1,000 rounds he's requested.

When Wobig turned to the residents of Proctor by putting out a call for help meeting his department's ammo needs, citizens contacted his office, eager to help.

"The citizens were like, 'If you need something, we got plenty here,'" said Wobig.

One resident and a Proctor police officer loaned 1,500 rounds from their personal stockpile to the department.

The Chief says others offered to help too. "I had several other calls from other citizens that said, 'Hey, if you need more ammunition we have plenty,'" said Wobig.

The Chief says that when his ammunition order is filled, he will be repaying the citizens for their contributions.

Pope Francis urges global leaders to end 'tyranny' of money

Pope Francis has attacked the “dictatorship” of the global financial system and warned that the “cult of money” was making life a misery for millions.

He said free-market capitalism had created a “tyranny” and that human beings were being judged purely by their ability to consume goods.

Money should be made to “serve” people, not to “rule” them, he said, calling for a more ethical financial system and curbs on financial speculation.

Countries should impose more control over their economies and not allow “absolute autonomy”, in order to provide “for the common good”.

The gap between rich and poor was growing and the “joy of life” was diminishing in many developed countries, the Argentinian Pope said, two months after he was elected as the successor to Benedict XVI.

“While the income of a minority is increasing exponentially, that of the majority is crumbling,” said Francis, who as archbishop of Buenos Aires visited slums, opted to live in a modest flat rather than an opulent Church residence and went to work by bus.

In poorer countries, people’s lives were becoming “undignified” and marked by violence and desperation, he said.

Francis made the strongly-worded remarks in his first major speech on finance and the economy, during an address to foreign ambassadors in the Vatican.

It underlined a reputation he has established in the last two months for showing deep concern for the plight of the poor and vulnerable.

“The worship of the golden calf of old has found a new and heartless image in the cult of money and the dictatorship of an economy which is faceless and lacking any truly human goal,” Francis told the ambassadors.

As the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in Argentina, he often spoke out about the plight of the poor during the country’s economic crisis.

Unchecked capitalism had created “a new, invisible, and at times virtual, tyranny”, said the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio.

“The Pope loves everyone, rich and poor alike, but the Pope has the duty, in Christ’s name, to remind the rich to help the poor, to respect them, to promote them,” he said.

Francis will make the first foreign trip of his papacy to Brazil in July, during which he will visit a slum in Rio de Janeiro and meet young prison inmates.

He will attend World Youth Day, a week-long event which is expected to attract more than two million people.

Jesuits Behind Politics (in America)

America

Many writers warned of a great conspiracy of the Jesuits in America. Samuel Morse, the father of Morse Code, was one of them. The preface of Foreign Conspiracy Against the Liberties of the United States, written in 1835, reads as follows:

Samuel Morse in 1840.
Public Domain.

The author undertakes to show – that a conspiracy against the liberties of this Republic is now in full action, under the direction of the wily Prince Metternich of Austria, who knowing the impossibility of obliterating this troublesome example of a great and free nation by force of arms, is attempting to accomplish his object through the agency of an army of Jesuits. The array of facts and arguments going to prove the existence of such a conspiracy, will astonish any man who opens the book with the same incredulity as we did.xxxiv

In 1816 John Adams wrote this to President Jefferson:

Shall we not have regular swarms of them here, in as many disguises as only a king of the gypsies can assume, dressed as painters, publishers, writers and schoolmasters? If ever there was a body of men who merited eternal damnation on earth and in hell it is this Society of Loyola’s.xxxv

President Abraham Lincoln said this:

The Protestants of both the North and South would surely unite to exterminate the priests and the Jesuits, if they could learn how the priests, the nuns, and the monks, which daily land on our shores, under the pretext of preaching their religion...are nothing else but the emissaries of the Pope, of Napoleon III, and the other despots of Europe, to undermine our institutions, alienate the hearts of our people from our constitution, and our laws, destroy our schools, and prepare a reign of anarchy here as they have done in Ireland, in Mexico, in Spain, and wherever there are any people who want to be free.xxxvi

The great French General Marquis de Lafayette once said this:

It is my opinion that if the liberties of this country the United States of America are destroyed, it will be by the subtlety of the Roman Catholic Jesuit priests, for they are the most crafty, dangerous enemies to civil and religious liberty. They have instigated most of the wars of Europe.xxxvii

These men of the past knew the truth. As we can see by the list below, many American universities are run by Jesuits.

Frighteningly, American presidents are being trained at these institutions, along with many other high government officials. Read about the current infiltration of Jesuits into American politics

There is no safety on Earth anymore. The deep-rooted government behind the scenes has already been established, and no human power can overthrow it. The only way to win is with Jesus. He is our only hope. Don't cling to your physical possessions, your social status, or even your family. All of this can be taken away. The only thing that can't is God's love. Are you ready to meet Him when He comes?

Don't be deceived by the different faces we see in power today. They all belong to the same source, but each has a different role to play in the creation of a new world order and the final endgame predicted in Bible prophecy. Bush, Obama, and all the presidents to come have a specific role to play—the next step in the huge plan.

"And that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition"

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

White House Aide Calls Criticism of Obama ‘Offensive’

May 19, 2013, 1:51 pm

By BRIAN KNOWLTON

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying that the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”

The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps. He pointedly rejected Republican criticisms of the president’s actions and leadership style as “offensive” and “absurd,” and he said the administration would not be distracted from doing the nation’s business.

In his appearances, Mr. Pfeiffer faced often tough questioning over the Internal Revenue Service’s targeted reviews of conservative groups; the lethal attack on an American diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, last September; and the Justice Department’s seizure of journalists’ records.

He repeatedly pointed the finger at Republicans for exploiting the three issues for political purposes, even as he urged them to work with the administration on legislation to revamp the immigration system and trim the budget deficit.

His warning against “fishing expeditions” came when he was asked on the CBS program “Face the Nation” about a remark by the White House chief of staff, Denis R. McDonough, who had told The New York Times that he had instructed staff not to spend more than 10 percent of their time on the three controversies.

The program’s host, Bob Schieffer, asked whether that meant that the White House did not take the issues seriously.

“Oh, no. Absolutely not,” Mr. Pfeiffer said. “There are some very serious issues here, particularly the I.R.S., where there was inexcusable conduct that needs to be fixed. And that’s going to happen.” But he said that the president and his staff needed to keep “actually doing the people’s work and fighting for the middle class.”

Republicans appearing on the Sunday shows insisted that they would be aggressive in pushing for fuller investigations, particularly of the I.R.S. and Benghazi matters. The administration has promised to cooperate, but is also fighting to keep the problems from overshadowing its agenda.

Representative Paul D. Ryan, Republican of Wisconsin, said on “Fox News Sunday” that investigators examining the I.R.S. scandal needed to answer key questions: “Who knew? When did they know? Why did they do this? How high up in government did it go?”

Mr. Ryan, a member of the Ways and Means Committee, which held an often testy hearing into the I.R.S. matter on Friday, said Americans had lost confidence in their government, adding, “This is arrogance of power, abuse of power, to the nth degree.”

Representative Tom Price, a Georgia Republican who is also on the committee, said that an inspector general’s review of the I.R.S. matter that was released last week – it largely blamed ineffective I.R.S. management for the undue scrutiny of Tea Party groups – was “just the beginning of this process.”

Mr. Pfeiffer tried to clarify a key point – Mr. Ryan’s “when did they know” – about exactly when Mr. Obama learned that an I.R.S. unit had given extra scrutiny to conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. The president’s response to a reporter’s question on Thursday had seemed open to interpretation.

But Mr. Pfeiffer said repeatedly on Sunday that the president had learned about the matter only weeks ago. That was appropriate, Mr. Pfeiffer said, given the importance of insulating the I.R.S. from White House pressures.

Mr. Pfeiffer made the administration’s Republican critics the prime target of his anger. “There is no question Republicans are trying to make political hay here,” he said of the I.R.S. scandal. And regarding Benghazi, he said on Fox, “There’s a series of conspiracy theories the Republicans have been spinning about this since the night it happened.”

When Chris Wallace, the Fox host, pressed Mr. Pfeiffer to explain exactly what Mr. Obama was doing last Sept. 11, as reports emerged of the attack on the United States mission in Benghazi – specifically whether the president had gone to the Situation Room to monitor events – Mr. Pfeiffer dismissed the question as irrelevant and rejected what he said was an implication of presidential inattention. Four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, were killed in the attack.

“The assertions from Republicans here that somehow the president allowed this to happen and didn’t take action is offensive,” Mr. Pfeiffer said, adding, “There’s no evidence to support it.”

But the minority leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, picking up on a recent Republican theme, cast the various scandals as symptoms of a deeper problem. “There is a culture of intimidation through the administration,” he said on the NBC News program “Meet the Press.” “The I.R.S. is just the most recent example.”

The president has insisted that it would have been wrong to be involved earlier in the I.R.S. matter or to interfere with the Justice Department’s investigation into leaks that led to the seizure of the journalists’ records. That has provoked criticism that his management style leans too far in the other direction – so detached as to be ineffectual.

Mr. Pfeiffer brusquely dismissed those suggestions.

“I think that’s an absurd proposition,” he said on Fox, adding, “What would be a real problem is if he was involved in those cases.”

He said that a cardinal rule of the presidency is “you don’t get involved with independent investigations, and you don’t give the appearance of doing so.”

Some Republicans have sought to link the I.R.S. scandal to their concerns about the president’s health care law, calling for Sarah Hall Ingram, who had headed the I.R.S. section involved in the tax-exempt determinations, to be relieved of her current role in carrying out that law.

Mr. Pfeiffer said no such step should be taken before a monthlong investigation ordered by the new acting I.R.S. commissioner is completed. “No one has suggested that she did anything wrong yet,” he said.

But Senator Rob Portman, Republican of Ohio, said that he did not think the I.R.S. review would suffice. “I think a special counsel is going to wind up being necessary,” he said on the ABC News program “This Week.”

Product Description

“Tares Among the Wheat” will likely challenge what most scholars believe about Bible history, and the origins of the current wave of new translations that have flooded churches around the world.

In the 19th century, a revolution in biblical scholarship was prompted by the publication of a never-before-seen manuscript called Codex Sinaiticus. The work was allegedly “discovered” by a German scholar named Constantine von Tischendorf, who declared this to be the oldest Bible ever found. Tischendorf said

he found the work in a rubbish basket at a Greek Orthodox monastery in Egypt. While many in the academic world did not fully believe his story, they were willing to accept his claims about the antiquity of the codex. But shortly after his discovery was published, a renowned Greek paleographer named Constantine Simonides came forward and declared that the manuscript was no ancient text at all, but had been created by him in 1840. The controversy surrounding these events is, perhaps, the most incredible untold chapter in Bible history. It involves Jesuits, the Pope, a high-minded German, a committee of Anglo Romanists, and a

mysterious Greek patriot. It is a story that (while quite true and well documented) a vast majority of modern academics know nothing about. Yet the subject matter dramatically impacts the world of biblical scholarship, even to this present hour. Most of what today’s scholars believe about MS. evidence is based on the events of this era, and the footnotes in your Bible are the proof of it.

THE WORK OF THE JESUITS IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM

as revealed by their own sources
...

Infiltration and Global Networking

There is in particular two aspects that we notice the Jesuits will emphasize to achieve "greater cooperation and effectiveness."

1) Infiltration [Twining] (D21, 448)

2) Global Networking (D21, 446)

The Jesuits emphasize that they need close cooperation among themselves to reach their goals. By creating networks between individuals and institutions, they can gather information which they can then forward to other levels of society. They also emphasize this point in regard to their work to promote inter-religious dialogues. In this area they will divide the work into two groups of responsibility: the ones who participate in the dialogues, and those who forward the outcome of the dialogues to those in the Jesuit Order that are involved in other parts of the work. (D5, 148)

But the networking is also taking place on other levels. Especially mentioned is "Networkings in university departments, research centers, school papers, and in regional defense groups. The potential is also present to achieve cooperation by and through international troops, organizations that are not under government rule, and other newer organizations of men and women that are favorably inclined. The initiative and support for these different forms of networkings should come from all parts of society..." (D5, 446)
