Al Qaeda kingpin Abu Anas al-Libi belongs at Guantanamo, not in New York

U.S. Commandos scored a tactical victory against Al Qaeda by swooping into Libya and capturing Abu Anas al-Libi earlier this month, a former Bin Laden confidant and terror kingpin. Now President Obama must follow through with a strategic win.

That means extracting valuable intelligence from al-Libi, whose name literally means “the Libyan,” about his two decades of terror insider experience as an Al Qaeda computer expert and co-conspirator of plots against U.S. interests. Al-Libi is believed to have been involved in plots across Africa and the Middle East, including against our Kenya and Tanzania Embassies in 1998 which killed 224 people.

But getting that treasure trove of information depends on our strategy to pry it from a hardened warrior.

And so far, the Obama administration is failing us.

Here’s why:

Instead of whisking al-Libi to Guantanamo where he could be interrogated by the military and CIA for as long as it takes to get actionable intelligence – and then try him by military commission as an enemy combatant, Mr. Obama first decided to hold him aboard the amphibious transport ship USS San Antonio, and later try him in a New York federal courtroom.

Mr. Obama’s resistance is entirely based on politics, which he is putting above national security. Again.

First, let's look at the move to put him on the Navy ship.

While holding key terror suspects captured overseas on a Navy ship makes sense temporarily, therein lies the long term problem -- everybody knows it’s just a temporary landing place, including the detainee. Al-Libi has likely been inclined to bide his time and wait till he arrived in the United States to speak with a civilian lawyer.

Second, about justice.

Obama’s counter-terrorism strategy often resembles a hybrid of police work and war. Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame, a leader of Somalia’s Al Qaeda ally, Al Shabaab was captured in 2011 and held aboard a Navy ship for two months. But then Obama ordered his transfer to federal court in New York where he would be afforded a full range of Constitutional Rights.

Ironically, Obama champions a concept that gives foreign enemy combatants trying to kill Americans, with generous legal protections designed by our Founding Fathers to protect Americans.

What would George Washington would say?

Third, on the interrogations.

Let’s face it, al-Libi’s time on a ship likely didn't require much toughness. Mr. Obama banned coercive interrogation techniques within 48 hours of his January 2009 inauguration. -- Al-Libi could face rougher treatment from police departments across the country for robbing a liquor store.

Sure, he may decide to cooperate with investigators over a hamburger and fries. Some FBI agents have the knack of getting guys to reveal meaningful information via polite conversations, but that strategy can take considerable time as the interrogator-detainee form a tight bond. While that’s great to help prosecutors secure convictions in court, it could take years, and won't stop imminent attacks.

So what’s wrong with sending al-Libi to Guantanamo?

Actually, nothing.

Mr. Obama’s resistance is entirely based on politics, which he is putting above national security.

Again.

Let’s understand that although Gitmo had a rocky start in 2002, it remains in the crosshairs of history’s largest propaganda campaign.

Left-leaning defense lawyers, so-called human rights activists, key media and politicians, both in the U.S. and overseas, worked tirelessly to convince the world that Al Qaeda and Taliban terrorists at Gitmo were actually the victims.

They conveniently ignore the fact that detainees collectively killed countless thousands of civilians worldwide, including on Sept. 11, 2001, in the mass-casualty bombings at our East African Embassies, at a Bali nightclub, and the Jakarta Marriott, and during Afghanistan’s civil war.

And with the exception of isolated incidents impacting a grand total of 1% of the total detainee population, the rest have been treated with kid gloves.

Gitmo and military commissions have played a vital role in defending America as we remain at war.

Just as we held Nazis as enemy combatants in 1943, we should continue holding Al Qaeda terrorists and affiliates in the same status.

Al-Libi should join them at Gitmo -- starting today.

Christian Businesses in Trouble Over Christian Policies

Monday, 14 October 2013 16:10
Written by Raven Clabough

A Mennonite couple in Iowa may be forced to choose between financial penalties or disregarding their own principles after the Iowa Civil Rights Commission filed suit against them for refusing to host a same-sex wedding. Dick and Betty Odgaard, who operate The Gortz Haus Gallery in Grimes, Iowa, has filed a counter-lawsuit against the state’s Civil Rights Commission in the hopes that they may be able to maintain their own convictions without penalty.

The Odgaards’ Gallery served as the location of a Lutheran church for over 60 years, but is now a bistro, floral and arts shop, as well as a wedding facility. They declined a request from Lee Stafford and his partner Jared to host a same-sex wedding in August. According to their countersuit, they did so “because their religion forbids them from personally planning, facilitating or hosting wedding ceremonies not between one man and one woman.”

His wife Betty explained to local television station KCCI that the company policy reflects their Christian faith. “That decision is based on our religious beliefs,” she stated. “And we want to honor that. We want people to know that is our stand, [which] comes from our faith and convictions, and I think we should stand by those [convictions] no matter what.”

The Odgaards did offer to provide the flowers or cake for the ceremony, but indicated that they were not comfortable allowing an exchanging of vows between the two men on their premises. “I would serve them in every other way; we simply don’t want to take part.… It just comes down to that final line of taking their vows in our facility,” she told reporter Billy Hallowell. “I do not hate these people and they have the right to do what they want to do under the law and in humanity.”

Their offer was not well-received by Stafford, who filed a complaint with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and accused the Odgaards of violating state law, as same-sex "marriage" was legalized in Iowa in 2009 after a state Supreme Court ruling. “They discriminated against us based on our sexual orientation. Iowa code says if you have a public accommodation, you can’t discriminate based on sexual orientation,” said Stafford.

On October 7, the Odgaards responded by filing a counter-lawsuit through the Beckett Fund for Religious Liberty.

“The Iowa Civil Rights Commission is now seeking to force the Odgaards to plan, facilitate and host same-sex wedding ceremonies at the Gallery,” the suit reads. “Publicly associating with a wedding ceremony that violates their beliefs would send a message to others who share their beliefs, including some of their employees, that those beliefs are untrue or unworthy of devotion, and thereby cause others to sin.”

Meanwhile, Stafford found another facility at which to host the ceremony for him and his partner.

But that has not stopped angry critics from hurling angry expletives at the Odgaards. After the incident at the Gortz Haus Gallery became public knowledge, the couple indicates that they began receiving harsh and angry e-mails. “You are mean, rude, selfish, [expletive] racist sons of [expletive] from Hell,” one message stated. “[Expletive] your God. [Expletive] your religion.”

“Betty, you’re very old and almost dead,” another e-mail read. “How do you both feel knowing that America and the world will be a better place without you?”

Likewise, the incident has been harmful to their business. Christian News reported, “Two clients also canceled their reservations, and several others have asked for their money back.”

Others within the community, however, have reportedly been largely supportive of the Christian couple.

And Betty Odgaard does not believe that she should feel anymore guilty for maintaining her own views on the subject as those who have grown angry over the incident. “Can’t I have my beliefs without being ostracized for that?” she opined. “I think that I have my right, too, to stand firm on my convictions and beliefs.”

But the Odgaards do fear that they may be forced to shutdown if they continue to refuse to host same-sex weddings.

And the Odgaards are not the only ones who have found themselves in legal troubles because of their strict adherence to their beliefs.

A Christian couple in Oregon was forced to close their bakery business because of the harassment they had received from homosexual advocates after they refused to make a cake for a lesbian wedding.

“It’s a sad day for Christian business owners and it’s a sad day for the First Amendment,” Aaron Klein, co-owner of Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Gresham, Oregon, told commentator Todd Starnes. “The LGBT attacks are the reason we are shutting down the shop. They have killed our business through mob tactics.”

“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman,” he stated. “I don’t want to help somebody celebrate a commitment to a lifetime of sin.”

Across the ocean, in Cornwall, England, another Christian couple experienced a similar dispute that resulted in the couple selling their business.

Peter and Hazelmary Bull, Christian owners of the Chymorvah Hotel, were forced to sell their bed and breakfast, which also served as their home, after legal costs and harassment from opponents drove them out of business.

In 2008, Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy reserved a double room but were turned away by the Bulls because of their homosexuality, and the Chymorvah Hotel does not permit unmarried couples — homosexual or heterosexual — to share a room.

“Please note that as Christians we have a deep regard for marriage (being the union of one man to one woman for life to the exclusion of all others),” the business website states. “Therefore, although we extend to all a warm welcome to our home, our double bedded accommodation is not available to unmarried couples.”

The Bulls were forced to pay restitution to the Hall and Preddy of nearly $3,000 each. The couple also accumulated a considerable amount in legal fees.

Furthermore, they have been targeted by vandals who have also been issuing death threats. Christian News reported, “They told reporters that a dead rabbit was once nailed to their fence, the bolts were removed out of the wheels of their car, and they were infected with pornography on their computer."

The Bulls attempted to remain strong in the face of such intolerance but were ultimately forced to close their doors and sell their business when the financial impact of the dispute began to take its toll.

It is becoming increasingly clear that some of the loudest proponents of “tolerance” are intolerant of beliefs that are not their own.

Top Nuke Commanders Terminated Following Missing Nuclear Warheads Report

Top nuke commanders Navy Vice Adm. Tim Giardina and Maj. Gen. Michael Carey terminated following exclusive high level military intelligence over secret nuclear warheads transfer

By Anthony Gucciardi
Global Research, October 13, 2013
Infowars.com

Region: USA
Theme: Militarization and WMD
In-depth Report: Nuclear War

Two of the top nuclear commanders within the United States have now been terminated following the exclusive high level military leak report by Alex Jones and myself regarding the secret and unsigned nuclear weapons transfer from Dyess Air Force base to South Carolina. Disturbingly, the high level suspensions from top generals within the military establishment are not the only red flags to follow the leaked report.

Even before it was announced that the second highest nuke commander in the United States was suspended on the same day of the secret nuke transfer just weeks later, it was Senator Lindsey Graham who went on record hours after our report in saying that a ‘nuclear attack’ could come to South Carolina in the event that we did not move militarily against Syria and Iran — pushing even harder to action against both Iran and Syria. This alone generated hundreds of thousands to view our video reports and millions to examine our reports, which had immediately gone from concerning high level military intelligence to an international topic.

But now, even after we had Lindsey Graham warn against a nuclear strike in the exact region we told you the nuclear warheads were being transferred without a paper trail, we have the absolute highest level military nuke commanders being removed. But what’s more, the terminations were not meant to be leaked — especially not the fact that the suspension of the #2 in command was issued on the exact day of the nuke transfer.

From a report in the Daily Mail over the suspension of the second highest nuke commander in the country, we read how the commander was suspended on the exact same day as the transfer:

“Kunze said Strategic Command did not announce the Sept. 3 suspension because Giardina remains under investigation and action on Kehler’s recommendation that Giardina be reassigned is pending. The suspension was first reported by the Omaha World-Herald.”

It is also revealed in the mainstream media reports that the government did not want these suspensions and firings to go on record, and that it was an anonymous government insider who provided leaked emails to the Associated Press:

“An internal email obtained by the AP on Friday said the allegations against Carey stem from an inspector general probe of his behavior while on an unspecified ‘temporary duty assignment.’ The email said the allegations are not related to the operational readiness of the ICBM force or recent failed inspections of ICBM units.”

What this means is that the nuke commanders were terminated behind the scenes in a move that was not meant to hit the public eye — especially not the fact that the second in command was fired on the same day of the leaked nuclear transfer. More importantly, shedding light on the secret transfer of nuclear weapons and the numerous red flags that prove its validity is key in stopping the psychopathic control freaks in government from going through with Graham’s ‘warnings’ of a nuclear explosion that would lead to a war with Syria.

The highest level generals have now installed a new commander, Pentagon Air Force Commander Jack Weinstein, who may be willing to do the bidding of higher ups that the previous two nuke commanders would not.

Government Shuts down Catholic Services on Navy Base; Church locked; Priest threatened with arrest; Thomas More Law Center Files Federal Lawsuit

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the wake of the government shutdown, despite provisions in the Pay Our Military Act, Catholics at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Georgia are being denied religious services, according to the complaint filed by the Thomas Moore Law Center. The Catholic priest who serves this community has been prohibited from even volunteering to celebrate Holy Mass without pay, and was told that if he violated that order, he could be subject to arrest. Protestant services continue to take place. Only Catholic services have been shutdown.

This is an astonishing attack on religious freedom by the federal government, and the latest affront towards the military since the beginning of the shutdown.

As a result, the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, MI, today, filed a federal lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Father Ray Leonard, a Catholic priest contracted to serve as base chaplain and Fred Naylor, one of Father Leonard's parishioners and a retired veteran with over 22 years of service. Fr. Leonard is a civilian Catholic Pastor contracted by the Department of Defense (DoD) to serve as a military chaplain at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Georgia.

Fr. Leonard who served Tibetan populations in China for 10 years, informed the court in an affidavit; "In China, I was disallowed from performing public religious services due to the lack of religious freedom in China. I never imagined that when I returned home to the United States, that I would be forbidden from practicing my religious beliefs as I am called to do, and would be forbidden from helping and serving my faith community."

On October 4, 2013, Fr. Leonard was ordered to stop performing all of his duties as the base's Catholic Chaplain, even on a voluntary basis. He was also told that he could be arrested if he violated that order. The approximately 300 Catholic families, including Fred Naylor's, served by Fr. Leonard at Kings Bay have been unable to attend Mass on base since the beginning of the shutdown.

Additionally, Fr. Leonard was locked out of his on-base office and the chapel. Fr. Leonard was also denied access to the Holy Eucharist and other articles of his Catholic faith. The order has caused the cancellation of daily and weekend mass, confession, marriage preparation classes and baptisms as well as prevented Fr. Leonard from providing the spiritual guidance he was called by his faith to provide.

The submarine base is remotely located. It consists of roughly 16,000 acres, with 4,000 acres comprised of protected wetlands. There are approximately 10,000 total people on the base.

A Catholic Church is located off base in the town of St. Mary's. However, many of the parishioners both live and work on base and do not own a car and cannot otherwise access transportation. Therefore a sixteen (16) mile journey to and from the off-base church is simply not possible. Moreover, many of the sailors have an extremely limited amount of time off. With their time highly regimented, they are not given a long enough break time for this exceptionally long walk and the Mass service.

Defendants in the lawsuit are the Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, the Department of the Navy, and the Secretary of the Department of the Navy, Ray Mabus.

Currently, about 25% of the US Armed Forces is Catholic and due to a shortage of active duty Catholic Priests, the DoD contracts Catholic Priests to provide religious services, sacraments and support for other religious practices for military base communities. Catholic Priests serve the Military Archdiocese.

For active duty service members, on base religious services are extremely important given issues associated with off base transportation, extremely limited time off and the highly scheduled lifestyle of active military duty. Additionally, as service members tend to have high rates of divorce, depression and suicide, the need for readily available spiritual encouragement and guidance is critical.

The Pay Our Military Act, which was enacted before the beginning of the government shutdown, provides provisions for the funding of employees whose responsibilities contribute to the morale and well-being of the military. The government has previously been criticized for interpreting the Act to not include military death benefits. Now, in yet another bizarre interpretation of the Act, some chaplains are not considered covered by these provisions, leaving Catholic members of some military facilities without spiritual guidance.

The Thomas More Law Center defends and promotes America's Judeo-Christian heritage and moral values, including the religious freedom of Christians, time-honored family values, and the sanctity of human life. Rally at World War II Memorial Ends at White House

Protestors took down many of the barricades around the monuments on the National Mall, leaving the Mall's landmarks open for tourists tonight. News4's Darcy Spencer reports.

A rally with appearances from conservative stars Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz escalated into a tense situation Sunday, as veterans protesting the government shutdown clashed with police, taking down barricades blocking the closed World War II Memorial and dumping them outside the White House.

The group, upset with the closure of memorials in Washington due to the shutdown stalemate, was organized by the Million Vet March, but it soon took on a more political tone.

According to NBC News, the president was in the White House at the time the protesters arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Video from cameras on the White House lawn showed people carrying barricades, presumably from the WWII memorial, to the fence. The DC Police Department said via Twitter that they were on the scene with the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Park Police.

NBC News desk assistant Brittany Marshall reported a sizable police presence moved protestors away from the White House fence. News 4's Derrick Ward said the crowd dissipated shortly thereafter with some people getting on buses to leave the area.

Members of the Million Vet March planned on gathering at the World War II Memorial on Sunday despite the memorial being closed due to the government shutdown.

According to a statement on the group’s website, they feel military personnel and veterans are “being used a political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis.” Organizers say they are not a political leaning group, but call the shutting down of memorials “a despicable act of cowardice.”

However, conservative political commentator Sarah Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee and former Alaska governor, and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) arrived and spoke to the people gathered at the memorial.

"This is the people's memorial," Palin said. "Our veterans should be above politics."

Ward reported some truckers who have attempted to slow beltway traffic this weekend as a protest measure made their way down to the Tidal Basin area. Police blocked off roads in an attempt to keep streets clear.

Dulles Brothers/ Kokesh Case

Date: 10-13-13
Host: John B. Wells
Guests: Stephen Kinzer, Jeffrey Phillips, Anthony Antonello

In the first half, John B. Wells was joined by Stephen Kizner, award-winning foreign correspondent, for a discussion on the extraordinary lives of John Foster Dulles and Allen Dulles, two immensely powerful brothers who led the US into a series of foreign adventures which are still shaking the world today. He explained that the brothers commanded tremendous power because John Foster Dulles, as Secretary of State, would use his position to depict various foreign regimes as hostile to America while Allen Dulles, directing the CIA, would simultaneous work on covertly engineering the downfall of these 'rogue' states. According to Kizner, this methodology proved successful in causing regime changes in Guatemala and Iran as well as spawning the United States' entrance into the Vietnam War.

Kizner suggested that the brothers' proclivity for pushing America to intervene in global affairs was influenced by two aspects of their early life. Being sons of a preacher, he said, the boys were taught that "good people have to go out into the world and crush evil." Additionally, Kizner noted their decades of employment with the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, which represented the foreign interests of American multinational corporations. As such, he surmised that "they came to think the interests of the American corporations were the interests of the United States." Ultimately, however, Kizner observed that this intervention on behalf of short term economic goals led to a "terrible long term effect" on America's relationships with various nations around the world in the modern era.

------------------------------------------

In the latter half, Jeffrey Phillips and Anthony Antonello talked about the case of Adam Kokesh, an Iraq War veteran who was arrested for posting a video of himself loading a shotgun at the Freedom Plaza in Washington D.C. Phillips detailed how Kokesh had previously been arrested several times at political protests, culminating in his July 4th demonstration of civil disobedience. For the crime of openly carrying a firearm in Washington D.C., Kokesh was arrested, denied bail, and has been held for the last 97 days, including over 80 days in solitary confinement. "It's become apparent that it's something personal," Phillips observed, "they don't like his methods and they're definitely trying to suppress him."

Reflecting on the current state of affairs in the United States, Antonello lamented that "tyranny has come to America." He lauded Kokesh for sacrificing his own freedom in order to alert his fellow citizens that "this government has been hijacked by people who do not have the best interests of Americans or humanity in mind." He noted that Kokesh has declared that he will not accept a plea bargain for the charges against him and plans to "put it in the hands of jury nullification" in the hopes that his peers will disagree with the nature of the laws he is accused of breaking. Should Kokesh be found guilty, however, he faces five to ten years in prison for his protest. Website(s):

Quotes of the Times: “And this is good old Boston. The home of bean and cod. Where the Lowells talk only to Cabots, And the Cabots talk only to God.” The Boston Toast’ by John Collins Bossidy“When we sold the Heathen nations rum and opium in roll, And the Missionaries went along to save their souls”. ‘The Old Clipper Days’  by Julian S. Cutler.

“A New England ancestry than which one more distinguished could hardly be named.”  Rev. E.S. Lines (bishop of diocese of Newark, and president of the Newark Historical Society), referring to the ancestry of William Huntingdon Russell.
In the attempt to take over and destroy America, the Jesuits have, for a long time, had powerful allies within America.  In order to understand who these allies are and why they would work together with the Jesuits, we need to go back to the establishment of the American colonies, which were originally part of the British Empire.
When Princess Diana gave birth to two sons, for the British royal family, it was said partially in jest, that she had done her duty and produced “an heir and a spare.”  All aristocratic families were/are obsessed with the necessity of creating a male heir to carry on the family name and preserving the family fortune.  [Do you remember Henry VIII and his six wives – all for the sake of producing that vital male heir].  Since infant mortality was high in former times, as many ‘spares’ as possible were also welcome in case of the death of the first-born.
However, it was always a problem to know what to do with all the ‘spares’ – the usual custom was for the younger sons to become officers in the army or navy or alternatively to join the church as priests.  However, as the British Empire expanded several other attractive alternatives became possible.  For example, there was a growing demand for colonial administrators - but the greatest opportunities were in the area of trade and commerce.  The ‘spares’ were provided with capital and sent off into the world to seek their fortunes (and the fortunes of their families) - the most popular destinations were India and America.  Great fortunes were made by these people, and the creation of great family dynasties were nurtured and preserved by the accumulation of wealth.
[Red Coats Vs Americans at Stoney Creek 1812]
When the American colonies revolted against the Empire, the loyalty of the ‘spares’ and their descendants, were firmly on the side of the Empire - when the Empire lost the struggle, it is assumed that most of these people all fled to Canada - but many also remained.  One of the areas that became a bastion for these pro-British Americans, was that part of New England that constitutes the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts in general, and in particular the city of Boston.  Even today Boston is well-known for its dynastical families such as the Lowells and the Cabots (and many more).  Locally, they are known as the ‘Boston Brahmins’ (after the highest class in the Hindu caste system – they even have their own distinctive accent).  Nationally, they are known as the ‘Eastern Establishment’ and the ‘Untitled Aristocracy.’  Internationally, they are known as the ruling class in America.  What is not known (or rather what has been forgotten), is that these people have never been republicans (i.e. they have never been supporters of the American constitution or the American political system).  Their first loyalty is not to the Republic of the United States of America.  Their first loyalty is to their own families (including their aristocratic connections in England).  And their instincts are aristocratic, not democratic – they despise everything to do with democratic forms of government.  Like all those who are aristocratically inclined they believe they are ‘born to rule.’  These people make natural allies for the Jesuits – they share the same philosophical outlook, they share the same goals, and they share the same hatred for the Republic of the United States of America.  [Their treasonous inclinations were on evidence during the war of 1812 (against Britain) when the ‘Essex Junto’ (named after a county in Massachusetts) advocated the succession of New England from the Union, in favour of Britain.  The ‘Essex Junto’ was made up of the ‘untitled New England aristocracy’ – they were never prosecuted for their treason].
If we examine just one of these ‘untitled New England’ families, we will be able to understand the profound influence these pro-British (and anti-American) families have had, and continue to have, over the entire spectrum of American society.  The family we will choose to study is the Russell family.  The family with, “a New England ancestry than which one more distinguished could hardly be named.”
The Russells were originally ‘de Roussel’ from Normandy, in France.  They won their aristocratic spurs when they crossed the English Channel with William the Conquer in 1066.  After the Norman Conquest, Hugue (Hugh) de Roussel was appointed Marshall of England, (the office of Marshall was to manage the horses and to protect the Monarch).  This is the beginning of the Russell aristocratic line – and if their New England ancestry was distinguished, their close connection to the English crown was even more distinguished.
In order to come down to modern times, we must jump several centuries to 1842, when we find Samuel Russell in possession of what Wikipedia calls “the largest and most important American trading house in China…” called Russell and Company.  Samuel Russell was a drug smuggler.  He made his fortune by trading goods in Turkey for opium, and then trading the opium into China for the much sort after China tea, silk and porcelain.  Samuel would have made even more money if he could have bought his opium in India and then went to China.  But unfortunately for Samuel (and all the other American traders and drug smugglers) India was a part of the British Empire and the British had a monopoly on Indian opium and they were the main players, in the opium for Chinese tea, silk and porcelain trade.
[European factories at Canton]
It is worth digressing here to examine the China trade in more detail.  The wealth of the British Empire rested on its ability to transport the trade of the world in British ships – legislation was passed in Britain and around the Empire to insure a near monopoly on international trade.  [The wealth of the present American Empire is dependent on the same arrangement – the only difference being that international trade is ‘carried’ by the American dollar].
The British system had several key hubs.  The first hub was the cotton producing southern states of America.  Cotton was a key ingredient in the industrial revolution.  The cotton was shipped to England, where it was made into textiles.  The textiles were shipped all over the world, but especially to India, which had a huge population and was hence a huge market. [Before India became a part of the British Empire it had a vibrant textile industry of its own, but the British destroyed it by imposing high taxes and tariffs on the industry.  The British then encouraged the production of opium in India for smuggling/trading into China].
The reason the British (and Americans) became drug dealers is because there was a huge demand (worldwide) for Chinese products, but the Chinese (having a long tradition of insularity and disdain for foreigners), did not want anything to do with the ‘barbarian’ Europeans, and they were not interested in importing British or American industrial or manufactured goods.  The Chinese were willing to trade for gold and silver (and sometimes the Americans were willing to use gold and silver), but the British were not willing to pay for Chinese products with gold and silver and they forced the Chinese to take opium.
[Chinese Opium Den]
When the Chinese became aware of the nefarious effects of opium addiction they made the opium trade illegal.  The British responded by using their navy to bombard the coastal Chinese cities until the Chinese relented.  The Chinese tried a second time to ban opium and to free themselves from the dominance of the drug dealers, but again the British responded by destroying Chinese cities.  Historically, these opium fueled confrontations between China and Britain are called ‘The Opium Wars’ (The First Opium War 1839-1842 – the Second 1856-1860).  The British Empire was, in large part, being funded by drug dealing.  At this point in history, opium was the single most traded commodity in international trade – it occupied the position then, what oil occupies now – just as we have oil wars now – they had opium wars then.
This imposed imperial ‘trading’ arrangement which was so lucrative, naturally attracted competitors.  The most successful competitors were American ships sailing out of the cities of Boston and Salem, in the state of Massachusetts.  [These port cities have had a long history of trading with China and it is known locally as ‘The Old China Trade’].
The first American trading ship arrived in China in 1784 (one year after American independence).  Samuel Russell arrived in Canton, China in 1819.  Initially, he started trading on behalf of another company called Edward Carrington & Company and again according to Wikipedia Samuel traded in “various goods and products including opium, an extremely profitable activity despite being outlawed-yet protected by foreign forces.”  Samuel Russell was a drug dealer – but so was everyone else – and the armies and navies of various European nations (but especially Britain) were there to ensure the trade in opium continued uninterrupted.
[The Nemisis destroying chinese war junks during the Second Battle of Chuenpee, 7 January 1841 ]
But Samuel did not do it all on his own, there were other ‘Boston Brahmins’ in China as well (including the Cabots and the Lowells).  John Perkins Cushing was in China even before Samuel Russell, arriving there in 1803.  John Cushing’s mother was a Perkins (another Boston Brahmin family), and John Cushing went to China to manage the Perkins Company (which was already established there).  This company (Perkins and Company) later merged with the Samuel Russell run company, of Russell and Company, making Russell and Company the dominant American Company in China.  [Thus we see that the Boston Brahmins are very much inter-related both through business links and family ties – and because of these intimate links, all of their fabulously fabled fortunes originated with the opium drug trade].
Drug smuggling Samuel Russell had a cousin called William Huntington Russell.  William was an academic.  He spent two years studying in Germany (1831,32), attending various German universities (the home of the Jesuit inspired Illuminati).  Upon his return to America in 1832, he immediately founded the secret society of ‘The Order of Skull and Bones’ at Yale University.  [Yale has been intimately entwined with the Russell Family - Noadiah Russell being one of the founding trustees of the university].   [The name of the University comes from one of its greatest benefactors, Elihu Yale.  Elihu worked for the East Indian Company rising to the position of Governor of Madras.  His fortune, some of which he gave to Yale University, came from the opium drug trade].  [The legal entity that administers Skull and Bones and owns the society’s assets is called The Russell Trust Association].  [Harvard University, being that other elite school for ‘the untitled aristocracy’, was also endowed with money from the opium drug trade].
[Skull & Bones Secret Society]
The influence of Skull and Bones over American affairs can be demonstrated by pointing out what was foisted on the American people during the 2004 Presidential Elections – both candidates were from ‘the untitled New England aristocracy’ and both of them were members of Skull and Bones.  [George W. Bush wrote in his autobiography: “In my senior year I joined Skull and Bones, a secret society; so secret, I can’t say anything more.”  When both John Kerry and George Bush were asked by a TV show host what it meant for the American people, that both presidential candidates were members of Skull and Bones Kerry replied: “Not much because it’s a secret”].  Meet the Press, August 31, 2003.
It surely is a ‘Sign of the Times’ that presidential candidates (and other political candidates) can stand for elections in a republican/democratic society (where everything is supposed to be transparent and open), and yet they openly confess membership in a secret shadowy world, that the voting public is not allowed to know anything about.  It should be obvious that membership in such an exclusive and elitist secret society such as Skull and Bones does not fall under the category of “not much” – when it comes to consequences for the American people and the world at large.  Republican and democratic principles are meant to be about legitimate choice – in the 2004 election there was no genuine choice – if you voted for tweedledum or tweedledee – you ended up with the same thing – Skull and Bones.
To be continued…
God bless, Bruce Telfer.

Extra Note:  The Russell penchant (and expertise) for creating secret societies is evident in the creation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Charles Taze Russell founded the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Watchtower (the proprietary organisation than owns and administers the JW sect) in 1881.  From the beginning of the movement there has been much speculation about the origins of the JWs and especially whether C. T. Russell was a freemason or not.  The fact that C.T. Russell was buried in the Rosemont United Cemetery (just outside Pittsburgh), with a pyramid adjacent his headstone, and on the pyramid Masonic symbols – perhaps this should be enough evidence to conclude, that he was involved with occult secret societies.   [The Watchtower publications often feature occult symbolism – the purpose of which is to alert the ‘adepts’ or the ‘initiates’ (those high ranking secret society members) of the true nature of the organisation].
Extra Note:  It would be naïve to believe that the ‘powers that be’ should abandon something as lucrative as the drug trade.  After all, it is not only lucrative from a purely monetary point of view – but it can also be used as a form of warfare by another means, as is demonstrated by what happened to China.  [The whole social fabric of China was weakened by the opium drug trade – and deliberately so, because it enabled the ‘powers that be’ to control China].  That the ‘powers that be’ have not relinquished control over the drug trade is evident with what has recently happened with ‘The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) - the largest of all the European Banks.
First some more history:  the British involvement in India was originally in the hands of a private company called the ‘East India Company’ – this company was in India purely for profit.  It was this company that was behind the opium drug trade into China (it as this company that was so powerful that they could call upon the British Imperial war machine to back their plans and goals – such as the two Opium Wars against China).  It was during the first Opium War that Britain annexed the island of Hong Kong and used it as a trading post into China (still its role today).  The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) was established in 1865 to facilitate trade between China and England – which was of course largely trade in opium.  Did the HSBC ever cease to be involved in the drug trade – NO!  [The same tactics (the use of drugs) that were used to destabilize China are now being used to destabilise America.  The only difference is that the drug of choice is no longer opium, but its more powerful derivative heroin, along with cocaine and its derivatives.  (Other countries are also severely hurt in the process, such as Colombia and Mexico – but they are just ‘collateral damage’ – the real target is America)].
The HSBC has recently been found guilty of ‘laundering’ the profits of the illegal drug industry.  After an extensive investigation by the American Government, the bank has been fined $1.2 billion - but nobody is going to jail.  The latest development is that the bank and the government have done a deal.  The deal is called a ‘deferred prosecution agreement’ (DPA).  What this ‘agreement’ means is that not one of the guilty executives at the bank will be prosecuted – no one will be held accountable.   The New York Times informs us, that state and federal officials “decided against indicting HSBC in a money-laundering case over concerns that criminal charges could jeopardize one of the world’s largest banks and ultimately destabilize the global financial system.”  NYT Dec. 10, 2012.  Which means that, the ‘too big to fail banks’ are also ‘too big to prosecute.’
But wait, the executives did get one punishment – they are going to have their bonuses delayed! – not denied – just delayed].  [The shareholders will be paying the fine – but they probably won’t mind, after all the bank’s profits for the previous year were $22 billion].  However, other commentators are not so generous with their assessment of the ‘slap on the hand’ as The New York Times.   Matt Taibbi, financial journalist at Rolling Stone wrote a representative piece expressing the outrage many feel (please excuse the colourful language, some of it is deleted):
“Wow. So the executives who spent a decade laundering billions of dollars will have to partially defer their bonuses during the five-year deferred prosecution agreement?  Are you ******* kidding me? That’s the punishment? The government’s negotiators couldn’t hold firm on forcing HSBC officials to completely wait to receive their ill-gotten bonuses?  They had to settle on making them ‘partially’ wait?  Every honest prosecutor in America has to be puking his guts out at such bargaining tactics.  What was the Justice Department’s opening offer–asking executives to restrict their Caribbean vacation time to nine weeks a year?... What’s the appropriate penalty for a bank in HSBC’s position?  Exactly how much money should one extract from a firm that has been shamelessly profiting from business with criminals for years and years?  Remember, we’re talking about a company that has admitted to a smorgasbord of serious banking crimes.  If you’re the prosecutor, you’ve got this bank by the *****.  So how much money should you take?  How about all of it?  How about every last dollar the bank has made since it started its illegal activity?  How about you dive into every bank account of every single executive involved in this mess and take every last bonus dollar they’ve ever earned?  Then take their houses, their cars, the paintings they bought at Sotheby’s auctions, the clothes in their closets, the loose change in the jars on their kitchen counters, every last freaking thing. Take it all and don’t think twice.  And then throw them in jail.”  Rolling Stone, Dec. 13, 2012.

White House faces an insurrection over metaphors

By Scott Wilson

October 10 at 2:40 pm

White House press secretary Jay Carney (Kevin Lamarque/Reuters)

It was bound to come.

After weeks of technical discussion over the budget and the debt ceiling, a debate both congressional Republicans and the White House have engaged in with no small measure of obfuscation, the media rebelled Thursday with a message: No more metaphors.

The shouts came in the White House briefing room as Press Secretary Jay Carney responded to questions about whether President Obama would sign a Republican proposal to extend the debt ceiling six weeks — but keep the government shut down.

Speaking a couple hours before congressional Republican leaders were due at the White House for a meeting on the matter, Carney said it remained to be seen whether the opposition would "put the matches and gasoline aside when it comes to threatening default."

He also said the proposed short-term extension of the debt ceiling, which would the government would hit next week without congressional action, was a way for Republicans to keep the "nuclear weapon" of undermining the economy in their "back pocket."

But it was "ransom" — a word Obama has used repeatedly to describe Republican negotiating tactics — that struck the last press corps nerve. The usual briefing room decorum, such as it is, broke down entirely when Carney said finally that Obama would sign a debt-ceiling extension but not if it meant "paying a ransom" to Republicans.

"The president will not pay ransom for ... " Carney began.

"You see it as a ransom, but it's a metaphor that doesn't serve our purposes ... " NPR correspondent Ari Shapiro shouted back with broad support from other confused reporters.

"You guys are just too literal then, right? Carney said.

"We just want to accurately report," Shapiro began before Carney interjected. "We're trying to be accurate in our description of what's going on."

The hot rhetoric from a consciously cool administration has not been the domain only of senior advisers. An exasperated Obama helped set the tone during his news conference last week when he used a torrent of metaphors and angry characterizations to describe the budget standoff and debt ceiling threat.

As Chris Cillizza pointed out last week, Obama used “ransom,” “extortion,” “deadbeat,” “hostage-taking," "blow the whole thing up” and “insane” in his hour-long news conference. Republicans have made clear they don't appreciate the metaphors, either.

But polls show Obama coming out better than House Republicans in this latest fiscal crisis, and White House allies have joined in with metaphors and labels of their own.

In a tweet Thursday sent after House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced the debt-extension proposal, David Plouffe, who managed Obama's first presidential campaign and advised him inside the White House during his first term, wrote:

"Maybe throw in a Special Counsel to investigate the President's birthplace and the House GOP will stop committing economic treason."

It's getting rough out there — metaphorically speaking.

Two US generals forced to retire over attack on US base in Afghanistan

The US Marine Corps has forced two two-star generals to retire for what the top general called their failure to secure a base in Afghanistan attacked by the Taliban last year, killing two Marines and destroying several aircraft.

The commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James Amos, said he took the action after reviewing the findings of a four-month investigation by the US Central Command.

Fifteen Taliban fighters penetrated Camp Bastion in southwestern Afghanistan and destroyed almost an entire squadron of Marine AV-8B Harrier jets in a September 2012 attack that was one of the most brazen of the war.

Gen Amos said he asked Maj. Gen. Charles M. Gurganus and Maj. Gen. Gregg A. Sturdevant to retire. They agreed to do so.

He also recommended that Maj Gen Gurganus' nomination to the rank of lieutenant general be rescinded and that Maj Gen Sturdevant receive a letter of censure from the secretary of the Navy.

Maj Gen Gurganus was commander of all coalition forces in southwestern Afghanistan. Maj Gen Sturdevant was commander of Marine aviation in the area.

It is the first time since the Vietnam War that any general has been forced to retire for negligence after a successful enemy attack.

Gen Amos said the two generals did not deploy enough troops to guard the base and "failed to exercise the level of judgment expected of commanders of their rank."

"It was unrealistic to think that a determined enemy would not be able to penetrate the perimeter fence," Gen Amos said.

"In their duty to protect their forces these two generals did not meet [the] standard."

The attack occurred at Camp Bastion, the British-run Nato air base in Helmand province that adjoins Camp Leatherneck, a US facility that also serves as the Nato headquarters for southwestern Afghanistan.

Marines use Camp Bastion's runway and dozens of US helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft are parked there.

On the night of the attack, Tongan troops, who had been assigned as lookouts by the British commanders of Camp Bastion, left one watchtower unmanned.

The investigation found that aspects of the US-British security plan were "sub-optimal," with no single officer in charge of security for both camps.

Troop reductions also affected security measures, it found.

Two US marines were killed in the attack and eight were wounded. The cost of damage to aircraft was estimated at $200m.

When told of the decision to relieve him of his duties, Maj Gen Gurganus told Gen Amos "As the most senior commander on the ground, I am accountable."

Gen Amos said it was the "hardest decision I have had to make as commandant of the Marine Corps" and that he had served with both men in combat, calling them "extraordinary Marine officers."

Time is Running Out!

CONTAINMENT! II

(Time is Running Out!)

In the book Omega by Lewis R.Walton is presented the mystery of the Alpha and Omega symbols which have enraptured many Adventists. They wanted to figure out what was the mystery behind the Omega symbol which represents what will happen to the world and church at the end of time. That book delved into the issues that took place at the turn of the century in the Adventist Church and in the world at large with the object to show how that basic history is mysteriously being repeated today as the end draws near.

The author first points out that the turn of the century was one of the most prosperous times our nation has ever had. He demonstrated how people were able to travel almost anywhere with scarcely the need of a passport. Both Russia and China were open to the Gospel with the special messages of Adventism. The author then quoted important and influential people who were remarking about the great peace and prosperity that existed during that time, but then had to center upon a shocker:

"One of the few dissenting voices came from a little 72-year-old lady who happened, this January 1, to be in New South Wales, Australia. For several years Ellen White had been speaking more and more pointedly about some great catastrophe soon to befall the world, and though her remarks seemed generally out of fashion with her times, she held to them with a persistence that demanded notice.

"Soon there will be death and destruction, increasing crime, and cruel evil working against the rich who have exalted themselves against the poor. Those who are without God's protection will find no safety in any place or position. Human agents are being trained and are using their inventive power to put in operation the most powerful machinery to wound and to kill. . . . Let the means and the workers be scattered." -- 8T p. 50.

"No one could possibly have known it that New Year's morning (1900), but Mrs. White's predictions were on the threshold of fulfillment. That very month Lenin would be released from Siberian detention and would race across Russia toward the safety of Western Europe. England, France, and Russia, concerned about the emerging German alliance, were bolstering something called the Triple entente. And in Zurich, a young college student named Albert Einstein was already writing strange formulas and wondering about the possibility of turning matter into energy. - Omega, p. 9, 10.

The whole essence of what was being brought out was that while they were enjoying the peace and prosperity, things were happening behind closed doors that they did not realize. He was portraying that there was a race to spread their message before things would close up. In the meantime people were planning war and amassing to themselves power with weapons of destruction. The stakes were the lives of human beings. Here is a portion of what was stated:
"Fourteen years had passed since that bright January morning at the dawn of a new century, when the world stood ready and the Advent message had a chance to go in the sunlight. Now the day was over, its last shadows about to be drawn tight by a 19-year-old Serbian nationalist with a pistol. In the Bosnian town of Sarajevo, a confused chauffeur made a wrong turn and drove his open limousine down a crowded street. Behind him, sheltered by a parasol from the intense summer sun, sat a royal couple whose life had been a classic love story and for whom this day was their fourteenth anniversary. For a moment the chauffeur hesitated, then tried to turn the car around, and as he did so, two shots rang out. Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife slumped in the seat; and the long day of opportunity was over. The first shots of World War I had been fired. From now on the church would have to work in a world descending into darkness." - Omega, p. 88.

The omega: a mysterious danger that waits for the church at the end of time. Ellen White saw it and "trembled for our people." And she left behind for us a legacy of hope to carry into that great challenge. - Omega, p. 86.

In all of this, the implications went beyond the church into governments and the military. The ending was great destruction to seal off those who did not receive the message or heed the warnings: those who lived in countries that then became Communist. The author continues:

"Nineteen fourteen. God's people have lived for fourteen years in the sunlight of earth's last summer day. Now the sky darkens with the first of autumn's storms. Across the vulnerable plains of Belgium comes the rumble of heavy artillery being moved, a sweeping cloud of dust, an endless line of gray uniforms that identifies General Karl von Bulow's Second Army. In Berlin exuberant troops parade for the last time down the brick streets; and young woman in a frilly white blouse breaks into their ranks, locks arms with a soldier, and marches with them. A few steps behind, a well-dressed businessman does the same, carrying a soldier's gun-smiling faces headed sightlessly into the terrible midnight of the Marne and Verdun, into a nightmare never seen before except by a little lady who, years before, had pleaded with her church for action." - Omega p. 92, 93. Then read her warning again above from 8T p. 50.

The church did not get the message out it in time, and soon a great portion of the world became closed to the Gospel by becoming Communist nations. The eternal lives of millions of people living in these countries were sacrificed in consequence. The church delayed until their very messages were closed down and could not reach anyone in those vital areas. During those times of peace, weapons of destruction were being prepared. We are being told that the same thing will be repeated, but with far more frightening consequences that will effect THE ENTIRE GLOBE!

Are you observing events related to Communist China? Are you understanding the great cooperation she is receiving from even our national leaders with the military secrets she is receiving, the vital land and property she is acquiring and all? Are you watching the course of events being covered over by the supposed economic prosperity we are presently enjoying? They have our nuclear secrets now! Just what was the meaning then of that crucial statement by Ellen White which said:

"Last Friday morning, just before I awoke, a very impressive scene was presented before me. I seemed to awake from sleep, but was not in my home. From the windows I could behold a terrible conflagration. Great balls of fire were falling upon houses, and from these balls fiery arrows were flying in every direction. It was impossible to check the fires that were kindled, and many places were being destroyed. The terror of the people was indescribable." -- Evangelism, p. 29 (1906)

The first chapter of The Great Controversy is mind boggling! That chapter deals specifically with what Jesus said about the destruction that was to befall Jerusalem in Matthew 24, AND THEN SHOWS ITS FULFILLMENT IN A MUCH MORE HORRIFYING MANNER UPON US AND OUR MAJOR CITIES IN OUR DAY! Ellen White goes graphically into what took place in A.D. 70. She showed the horror, the famine, the violence, the sorrow and carnage that destroyed Jerusalem. In that chapter is given us symbols and more than whispered suggestions dealing with the flight we MUST make, and how the early Christians were already prepared to flee to a place specially prepared before hand where they would find safety. That is what we are supposed to be doing. Although this place of safety we must prepare will ultimately be temporary, it will still do its work and many will be blessed because of our example.

The Doom of Sodom a Warning for the Last Days

October 16, 1893

By Mrs. E. G. White

How hard it was for Lot to leave Sodom! Part of his family had to be left behind, and all the wealth he had accumulated had to be sacrificed. He must go out from Sodom a poor man. The labor of years has to be counted in vain. He does not feel the terrible necessity for God’s judgment to fall upon the wicked city, and he still lingers. The angels urge his immediate departure; but Lot, stupefied with sorrow for the loss of his children and property, still hesitates. The angels lay hold of his hands, and the hands of his wife and children, and with merciful violence hasten them out of the city. When they reach the city limits, a word of command is given with startling vehemence: “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest ye be consumed.” A few moments’ delay now, a few moments of hesitancy, a few moments’ disregard of the warning, will cost the fugitives their lives. They are not even to turn their eyes back to see if their beautiful home has survived the general ruin, or the storm will burst upon them. God has delayed his retributive judgment only that they may escape. What care, what tenderness, to these four who flee from the doomed city!

Lot is confused, terrified, and distracted. He begs to be allowed to rest at a little settlement on this side the mountains. Unbelief sprang up in his heart, and he said: “Oh, not so, my Lord; behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast showed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die; behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one; oh, let me escape thither (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.”

But why should Lot not have trusted the mercy of the angels in directing him to escape to the mountains, since he ascribed to them the saving of his life? Lot’s stay in Sodom had not tended to increase his faith in God, nor had his intercourse with those who knew not God tended to convert them from the error of their way. He had pleaded that the angels permit him to take up his abode in the city of Zoar, saying, “Is it not a little one? and my soul shall live,” as though the God who had directed his escape from Sodom did not understand how to preserve the life he had saved. But what mercy and condescension are manifested by the God of heaven! His request is heard, and his plea granted; yet how much better would it have been to heed the angel’s voice, and go to the mountains, as far as possible from the wicked city. The angel bids him to hasten, because the fiery storm would be widespread and terrible.

One of the four fugitives ventures to cast a lingering look behind, to see the coming storm, and the number is less by one; for she stands as a memento of God’s wrath, turned into a pillar of salt. Had Lot earnestly and firmly fled to the mountains, as the angels had directed, without pleading for a new plan, his wife would not have transgressed the commandment of the angels, and would have been at his side.

When the first beams of the morning dawn, the inhabitants of Sodom are not aware of the departure of Lot and the angels. They were determined to abuse the strangers, but as they come to the house of Lot, it is found vacant, and the hour of doom comes upon them. And the Lord rains fire and brimstone upon the city, and the beautiful plain that looked like Paradise when the angels passed over it, now looks like a parched and blackened desert. The smoke of the burning goes up like the smoke of a great furnace, and the whole heaven is illuminated with the flames of the great conflagration. Sodom has become a place of desolation and ruin.

The sin of the people rose up to heaven, and because of the iniquity of the people, the Lord poured out the vials of his wrath. The fearful doom of Sodom stands forth as a warning for all time, and especially for those who live in the last days. The destruction of Sodom was a symbol of the destruction that will come upon the finally impenitent, when tempests of fire come from above, and fountains of flame break forth from the crust of the earth. The fate of this ancient city should be a warning to all who live for self, and who corrupt their ways before God. The sin of Sodom is the sin of many cities now in existence, that have not been destroyed as was Sodom. Ezekiel says, “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me; therefore I took them away as I saw good.”

The warning that was given to Lot comes down to us who live in this degenerate age,—“Escape for thy life.” The voice of the tempter is crying peace and safety. The evil one would have you feel that you have nothing to fear, and bids you eat, drink, and be merry. Which voice will you heed, the voice of heaven, or the voice that lures you to destruction? The Redeemer of the world, the compassionate Friend of man, discloses to our eyes the fact that there is a sin greater than the sin of Sodom. It is that of sinning against greater light. To those who have heard and have not heeded the gospel invitation to repent and have faith in Christ, the sin is greater than was the sin of Sodom. To those who have professed the name of Jesus, who have professed to know God, and to keep his commandments, and yet who have misrepresented Christ in their daily life and character, who have been warned and entreated, and still dishonor their Redeemer by their unconsecrated lives, the sin is greater than that of Sodom.

Jesus said: “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shall be brought down to hell; for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained unto this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.”

The warning of Christ sounds down along the lines to our day. He would arouse the people for whom he gave his life, and attract their attention to himself, the source of all wisdom, righteousness, strength, and hope, and peace. He would have his people let their light shine forth to the world in good works. The sins of Sodom are repeated in our day, and the earth is destroyed and corrupted under the inhabitants thereof; but the worst feature of the iniquity of this day is a form of godliness without the power thereof. Those who profess to have great light are found among the careless and indifferent, and the cause of Christ is wounded in the house of its professed friends. Let those who would be saved, arouse from their lethargy, and give the trumpet a certain sound; for the end of all things is at hand.
