TALLAHASSEE (Bay News 9) -- People from across the state, including the Tampa Bay area, descended on Tallahassee Tuesday to protest the handling of Martin Lee Anderson's death after he was hit and kicked at a state boot camp last year.

The NAACP said it's just seeking justice in the case. The boot camp guards and the nurse involved were found not guilty earlier this month.

"We're not marching because Martin Lee Anderson was a little African American boy who was killed by the police while in their custody, we're marching because Martin Lee Anderson was a little American boy," said Benjamin Crump, the attorney representing Anderson's family.

The protesters are calling on the U.S. Attorney to file civil charges against the guards and nurse. The U.S. Justice Department is reviewing the case.
