SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic: Authorities in the Dominican Republic say that the bodies of seven foreigners have been found in the country's southern region.

Police say that the dead include citizens from Venezuela, Colombia and Nicaragua, and they suspect the Tuesday morning killings are tied to drug trafficking. Police spokesman Nelson Rosario says at least four of the seven victims were kidnapped the night before from one of their homes.

Authorities say they were shot and their hands tied. Rosario says an eighth victim from Nicaragua was found alive and is hospitalized.

Prosecutor Miguel Cuevas said Tuesday that police are still investigating. The bodies were found in a sugarcane field in the province of Bani, south of the capital.
