Turning British (programme)


First they started using it in the news; Calling airplane runways Tarmac.

This term seems to have been popularised when it became part of the news lexicon following live coverage of the Entebbe hijacking in 1976, where "Tarmac" was frequently used by the on-scene BBC reporter in describing the hijack scene. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarmac

Then, they began to call stretchers, gurneys.

gurney - a metal stretcher with wheels
stretcher - a litter for transporting people who are ill or wounded or dead; usually consists of a sheet of canvas stretched between two poles


Now, were off to see the Queen in The United Kingdom; Not Britain (GREAT) or England? No, it's the United Kingdom or UK.

United Kingdom? What England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are a united kingdom? What a politically in-correct title for an anachronistic form of government in the 21 st. Century!
