About the ICFR
The Israel Council on Foreign Relations is a strictly apolitical forum for the study and debate of foreign policy, with special emphasis on Israeli and Jewish concerns. Established in 1989 by a group of prominent practitioners and scholars of international affairs, as well as other influential members of Israeli society, the Council is a favored platform for distinguished foreign visitors who wish to present their views in a nongovernmental setting. The Council functions under the auspices of the World Jewish Congress Research Institute, and has, since its inception, hosted numerous heads of state, prime ministers, foreign ministers and other outstanding guests from abroad, as well as prominent local experts. The Council publishes The Israel Journal of Foreign Affairs, which appears three times per annum.
The Council is an independent, non-partisan and multidisciplinary institution, established on the model of the New York Council on Foreign Relations and the British Chatham House. The Council aspires to stimulate public awareness of world events and insightful discussion of foreign policy issues, particularly regarding Israel and the Middle East. Based in Jerusalem, it is administered by the World Jewish Congress Research Institute. The Council's membership is drawn from a wide cross section of the most influential spheres of Israeli society, including government officials, diplomats, university professors, leading business people, journalists and promising students.
