Once again the S.A.C.S. organization will be offering Thanksgiving baskets and turkeys to the needy.
Stoneham — In November 2009 the Stoneham Adventist Community Services (S.A.C.S.) organization gave food to 614 households (2,554 people, 1,253 children) with 5,167 grocery bags of food. The organization received approximately $75,000 of groceries donated last November by the community, schools, clubs, community churches, grocery stores and the Greater Boston Food Bank.
The Thanksgiving baskets and turkeys will be offered again to families in need. Those who qualify to receive such a basket include: persons already receiving public assistance; persons on unemployment; and households where the main provider is earning minimum wage.
S.A.C.S. will be in need of equal or greater assistance this year, and expects that November 2010 will have more people needing assistance.
To volunteer, drop off food or give monetary donations, visit 11 Gerry St. Register will also be accepted at the First Congregational Church during regular hours.
Volunteers will be working three-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, Nov. 15-18.
No basket requests will be taken over the phone, as S.A.C.S. is required to see documentation.
