The Seventh Day is The Sabbath?

It occurred to me today that the past two Sabbaths have been rather strange. You might ask why I would say this. Well, during the last two Saturdays, Governor Rick Perry of Texas has made the headlines in a peculiar way.

  1. Saturday - August 6, 2011: Governor Rick Perry hosted a Day of Prayer and Fasting in Houston at Reliant Stadium.
  2. Saturday - August 13, 2011: Governor Rick Perry officially announced his decision to run for President of the United States in Charleston, South Carolina. (@33rd Parallel)

Why do I find these events weird?
I just happened to notice the coincidence that they occurred on a Sabbath. There must be a specific reason why? The timing is what baffles me. Two Saturdays picked for making national news, and 7 days apart?

I am well aware that Gov. Rick Perry is a Methodist, and Methodists normally have their weekly worship services on Sundays. So, perhaps Gov. Perry picked Saturdays for his plans because he regularly goes to church on Sundays. Still, I find the timing (of organizing a major event one week exactly before he announces that he will run for President), rather odd. Maybe, in the future we will learn why these two days were chosen. For now I will just wait and watch...

ON another note, the General Conference of Seventh day Adventists also conducted a notable event during this past Sabbath.

Saturday - August 13, 2011 - a live streaming (12 hour) program was broadcast over the internet and on satellite to 42 countries:

Sabbath Celebration
Sabbathcelebration.com
At Bear Ridge Mall Andrews, North Carolina
The event's speakers were - Pastors Ted Wilson, Ed Reid, Kenneth Cox, David Gates, and Dr. Michael Hasel.

Sabbaths, or Saturdays are really becoming popular. Don't you think?

Well, it seems that it's a day when some people want to pray, fast, and announce their political plans.

While others are 'celebrating' the Sabbath in a impromptu grand manner...
