You can’t miss the mammoth white tent if you drive anywhere in the vicinity of Eight Mile and Pontiac Trail and that’s just what members of The New Beginnings 7th-Day Adventist church are hoping as they host a tent revival meeting, a form of evangelizing that harkens back to the early 19th century.

Tent revivals are part of “Americana,” according to Lou Alfalah, church elder and site coordinator.

Speaker Jim Howard will tackle subjects like, signs of the end of the world, identifying the anti-Christ and discerning whether there is significance of 2012 and the end of the mysterious Mayan calendar. Other topics include understanding the 10 Commandments and other important Bible teachings.

“Our purpose is to make disciples of Jesus Christ to faithfully represent His Word to let His truth be known and proclaim His soon return,” Alfalah said. “Our goal is not membership. Our goal is make disciples of the Lord Jesus — those who have a relationship with the Lord.”

The Seventh-day Adventist host one or two Bible seminars annually. The group rents space from Family Life Community Church, 62345 W. Eight Mile Road in South Lyon, and meets at 9:30 a.m. Saturday mornings followed by Bible study at 11:10 a.m.

Howard will make presentations during the tent revival at 7 p.m. Monday, July 16, Tuesday, July 17, Thursday, July 19, Friday, July 20, Monday, July 23, Tuesday July 24, Thursday, July 26, Friday, July 27, Monday, July 30, Tuesday, July 31, Thursday, Aug. 2 and Friday, Aug. 3. The events are free.
