Pastor Rick Warren. (VINCENT YU - AP)Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren’s plans to convene Barack Obama and Mitt Romney for a “civil forum” this week at his church in southern California have fallen through.
Apart from Warren’s conceit that the 2012 presidential campaign is too uncivil, neither the Obama campaign nor the Romney campaign committed to the forum.
The high-profile megachurch minister told the Orange County Register in an article published Wednesday: “It would be hypocritical to pretend civility for one evening only to have the name-calling return the next day.”
Warren’s Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., sponsored a forum in 2008 between then-Senator Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
