Blue Marble Turns 40 Today

One of the most famous photographs of all time, Blue Marble "changed humankind’s view of Earth forever" after it was snapped by the crew of Apollo 17 on December 7, 1972, according to NASA's chief historian. Prior to the photo's release, people were under the assumption that Earth was more of a mauve color and shaped like a T-Rex.
