CBSDFW.COM – Freshman senator Ted Cruz from Texas is considering a presidential run in 2016, according to the National Review.

The article cites friends and confidants of Cruz, saying that though Cruz won’t address it publicly, he has undeniable interest in making a run.

Last November, Cruz defeated Democratic challenger Paul Sadler to become the first Latino U.S. Senator from Texas. He succeeded retiring Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who had held the position since 1993.

Cruz secured an upset victory over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst to win the Republican senatorial nomination. Cruz credited the victory to the support he received from Tea Party members and grassroots conservatives. In the campaign, Cruz painted the mainstream GOP choice Dewhurst as being too moderate.

In his first three months in office, Cruz has been viewed by some as a troublemaker in the Senate, often voting contrary to the GOP mainstays. While the approach has been questioned nationally, Cruz is making good on promises to be absolute in his adherence to conservative principles.

P.S.

Cruz was born in CalgaryAlbertaCanada, where his parents, Eleanor Darragh and Rafael Cruz, were working in the oil business.[9][10] His father was a Cuban immigrant to the United States during the Cuban Revolution.[11] His mother was born and reared in Delaware, in a family of Irish and Italian descent.[10][12] Cruz's family returned to the U.S. when he was four years old.[11]
