New York, N.Y. -- As Pope Francis' first U.S. visit approaches, the scramble for tickets at his appearances is heating up.

"Hottest ticket in Washington? It's for the pope at Capitol," says the Fox television station in D.C. The station said Senators and House members are getting "extraordinary demand" from friends and family members for tickets to see the first-ever papal address to Congress next month.

Each member of Congress gets two tickets to the Sept. 24 address on Sept. 24. U.S. Rep. John Katko, of Camillus, will take his wife, Robin, with his guest ticket. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is holding an online lottery for his other ticket. It's open to New Yorkers only; you have until Wednesday to apply atSchumer's Senate website. The drawing for that ticket, and 100 seats to a papal audience on the West Lawn of the Capitol following Pope Francis' address, will be Thursday.

Also in demand are tickets to the papal mass at 19,000-seat Madison Square Garden on Sept. 25. Tickets are "extremely limited," according to the pope's official U.S. visit website. Most tickets are being distributed in the New York City diocese, although some will be sent to other dioceses in the state.

"There will be no tickets available publicly through any other means," the site says.

In his first U.S. visit, the pope will be shuttled around in an American car. The popemobile will be a modified Jeep Wrangler, like the one he rode in during a recent visit to Ecuador.

The pontiff will also visit Philadelphia, where a public appearance on Sept. 27 is expected to draw at least 1 million people. His visit has inspired a line of T-shirts and at least four new craft beers, including "Holy Wooder."

Here's the pope's official schedule.
