Pope Francis Calls on Christians, Muslims to Unite after Quebec Attack

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis called on both Christians and Muslims to remain united following Sunday’s attack on a mosque in the Canada city of Quebec, which left six dead and several wounded.

The Holy See said in a statement on Monday that the pontiff spoke during a meeting with Canadian Cardinal Gerald Cyprien LaCroix, Archbishop of Quebec city, who was on a visit to Rome and immediately returned to his country.

At the meeting, the pope conveyed his condolences to the cardinal and assured him of his prayers for the victims of the attack.

The Vatican secretary of state Cardinal Pietro Parolin sent a telegram to LaCroix on behalf of the Pope, stressing that the pontiff “strongly condemns the violence that engenders such suffering.”
