Company ends longstanding tradition of not offering fully staged works on its traditional day of rest

To date, the Metropolitan Opera has presented Puccini’s “Turandot” more than 300 times, going back to the work’s first New York staging in 1926. But when the company offers a performance this weekend, it will be a markedly different occasion.
The reason? This time “Turandot” is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, breaking the company’s longstanding tradition of not offering fully staged works on its traditional day of rest.
