Throughout 2020, leftists argued that shutting everything down was critical to stopping coronavirus and saving lives. Even as the unemployment rates skyrocketed, even as millions of Americans lost their jobs, regressed into poverty, etc., the Democrats’ support for lockdowns never waned.

Not only have leftists fiercely backed lockdowns, but they’ve also trashed anyone who even slightly objects. Democrats continue with the strawman argument asserting that any individual against lockdowns is selfish and inconsiderate of the elderly.

One year later, many Americans are still suffering the impact of lockdowns. Now, Washington Examiner reports that a new study completely throws cold water on arguments in favor of lockdowns.

The Truth About Lockdowns in the United States

A study carried out by Rice University’s Baker Institute contrasted heavy lockdown states with states that maintained much looser government restrictions. In the findings from this study, it’s determined that lockdowns engendered the demise of countless businesses and massive surges in unemployment.

Poorer and middle-income Americans are hardest hit by the lockdowns’ adverse impacts. Moreover, the economic harm from lockdowns thrust roughly 8 million Americans into poverty while worsening physical and mental health across the board.

Rice University’s Baker Institute’s study also informed that the harm from unemployment extends beyond financial problems. Due to the surge of joblessness, more Americans are at a greater risk of coming down with illnesses related to poor mental health.

On top of all this, there is not a “direct causal” connection between states’ restrictions and COVID-19 deaths. Ultimately, the reduction in most activities occurred due to personal decisions.

Will Lockdown Enthusiasts Admit They Were Wrong?

The more time passes, the more the ineffectiveness of lockdowns is proven. Nonetheless, supporters of lockdowns have not once retracted any of their previous claims. Thus far, lockdown enthusiasts have chosen to double down on their stances, rather than accept the presentation of evidence that goes against their narratives.

The study from Rice University’s Baker Institute speaks for itself. The writing is very clearly on the wall. Those who profess that lockdowns “save lives” are not accounting for the lives upended and disrupted by these measures.

In light of these details, it is unlikely that the aforementioned study will make lockdown enthusiasts admit the error of their ways.
