Despite US President Donald Trumps bravado, World War 3 is on the verge of happening – and the United States has a lot of possible targets. With enemies mounting, from Russia to Iran to China and maybe North Korea, the possibility of a full-scale war breaking out is rising.

And while Trump has claimed to have brokered ceasefires, peace deals and more across several battles, not many of them have stuck – and tensions are rising.

So the Daily Star has put together a handy guide of where Americans should avoid going if war were to break out, and we used Google's artificial intelligence-powered large language model called Gemini to do so.

The main targets

These cities are targeted due to their economic, political, and cultural significance. They represent centres of power, finance, and population, making them high-value targets for an adversary aiming to cripple the nation.

New York City, NY: The financial capital of the world, a major port, and highly populated. A strike here would have immense global implications. This includes impacts on nearby Jersey City and Newark in New Jersey.

Washington D.C.: The political capital, home to the White House, Pentagon, Capitol, and numerous government agencies. It would undoubtedly be a primary target.

Los Angeles, CA: A massive economic hub, major port, and population center on the West Coast. This encompasses the broader Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metropolitan area.

Chicago, IL: A critical transportation hub, financial center, and densely populated city in the Midwest.

Houston, TX: A major energy industry hub and one of the largest cities in the U.S.

San Francisco, CA: A major tech hub, financial center, and port city. The entire San Francisco Bay Area would be at extreme risk.

Seattle, WA: A significant tech industry center, major port, and home to large corporations. Its proximity to naval bases also increases risk.

Miami, FL: A major international port, financial center, and large population hub in the Southeast.

Boston, MA: A historical and economic center, with major universities and industries.

Philadelphia, PA: A large East Coast city with historical significance and a substantial population.

Atlanta, GA: A major transportation hub (Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport), economic center, and populous city in the Southeast.

Honolulu, HI: Due to its strategic military importance in the Pacific (Pearl Harbor, various military commands), it would be a very high-priority target.
What about missile sites?

These are the most concentrated military targets and would be hit directly to neutralize US nuclear retaliation capabilities. The areas surrounding these fields would experience multiple detonations.

Central and Northern Montana: This region hosts a significant portion of the Minuteman III ICBMs, primarily around Malmstrom Air Force Base (Great Falls, MT).

Southeastern Wyoming: Another major ICBM field, centered around F.E. Warren Air Force Base (Cheyenne, WY).

Western North Dakota: Home to more ICBMs and strategic bombers, especially around Minot Air Force Base (Minot, ND) and Grand Forks Air Force Base (Grand Forks, ND).

Western Nebraska: While less dense than the above, it also contains ICBM silos, notably near Offutt Air Force Base (Bellevue, NE), which is also home to U.S. Strategic Command.

Northeastern Colorado: Portions of Colorado also contain ICBM silos, making areas within range of these targets highly dangerous.

Gemini did, however, issue a warning: “In essence, if a full-scale nuclear exchange were to occur, anywhere near a major population centre, strategic military asset (especially ICBMs or SSBN bases), or a nuclear power plant would be among the most dangerous places to be. The immediate and residual effects would be catastrophic.”
