Self-described mutt Barack Obama: Don't 'talk about me like a dog'

By Toby Harnden World Last updated: September 7th, 2010

President Obama walks his dog, Bo, on the White House lawn (Photo: Win McNamee/Getty Images)

Just when it seemed that Barack Obama couldn’t dig himself any deeper into the political hole he’s in, he does something really stupid. “Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they’re not always happy with me,” he told a union crowd in Milwaukee. “They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.”

The comment makes him look ridiculous. First off, there are inevitable racial overtones to it. To be treated “like a dog” is to be treated as something less than human. In the Muslim world, to call someone a dog is a pretty serious insult (and no, I’m not suggesting Obama is a Muslim).

Who historically in the US has been treated as less than human? Blacks during the eras of slavery and segregation. During his campaign and since in office (the Henry Louis Gates fiasco was an exception) Obama has – to his credit – generally not sought to make racial comments or, to use that hackneyed term, “play the race card”. Now he’s going to be accused of doing so.

The other reason he looks stupid is that he himself has described both himself and black people in canine terms. Two days after he was elected, he referred to shelter dogs as “mutts like me”, a jocular reference to his mixed race. A month ago, he described African-Americans as “a mongrel people”. I don’t have a problem with either comment but if you’re going to rail about people talking about you like a dog then perhaps, er, you shouldn’t do so yourself.

The remark is also a bit odd because one of the most ridiculous bonanzas of media puffery surrounding the Obama administration (the organic vegetable patch was a close second) was the unveiling of Bo the First Dog. Obama milked it for months. It seems like the most pampered dog in the world. So, maybe not so bad to be talked about like a dog if you live in the White House .

And then there’s the basic conceit that it is “powerful interests” who oppose Obama. Come on! This man is President of the United States. He is the ultimate powerful interest. You may be able to portray yourself as a plucky outsider when you’re running for the White House but once you’re elected, it just doesn’t wash.

The sense from the Obama administration that they think that anyone who opposes their policies is stupid or racist or allied with “powerful interests” is plain wrong as well as politically disastrous.

Pretty soon, Obama is going to have to conclude that Harry Truman was right when he (supposedly) said that “if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog”. At this rate, Bo will be the only one still supporting him – if, that is, he isn’t miffed by his master’s derogatory comment about dogs.

Biden's expletive sums up big day

March 23 2010 at 11:22PM

Washington - Euphoric Democrats watching President Barack Obama sign historic health reform into law seemed to agree with the over-zealous reaction of gaffe-prone Joe Biden.

"This is a big f*cking deal," Vice-President Biden said in an aside to his boss, in a remark meant for Obama's ears only.

But he was clearly heard above a gale of applause on television microphones, just after paying a gushing tribute to Obama in a signing ceremony in the East Room of the White House, teeming with lawmakers, political aides and cameramen.

The expletive quickly became a big deal, as cable news channels went into overdrive, and one Internet entrepreneur immediately printed the quote on a T-shirt and hawked it online.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs played down the latest gaffe by America's infamously loose-lipped vice president.

"And yes, Mr Vice-President, you're right," he wrote on his Twitter feed.

But beneath the wild party mood, the ceremony for the legislation sent to Obama's desk by Congress on Sunday after a fierce political fight was bittersweet for some.

Like Vicki Kennedy, the widow of health care crusader Senator Edward Kennedy, who died of brain cancer last year.

And 11-year-old Marcelas Owens, whose mom died because she lacked medical care, and has become a poignant spokesperson for reform. He was by Obama's side as he signed the bill.

Campaigners have fought for generations for universal health care coverage, since the early 20th century days of president Theodore Roosevelt, who looked down on the ceremony from a huge portrait hung on the wall.

Emotions began spilling over as the invited audience waited for Obama to show up, seated by three crystal chandeliers in the ornate room. Top lawmakers, who fought to pass the bill, slapped backs and hugged.

Some were like children on a school trip, posing for photographs in front of the president's podium.

As Obama and Biden walked into the room, the crowd sang the president's campaign chants "Yes We Can" and "Fired Up, Ready to Go", and gave them a prolonged standing ovation.

Biden then offered Obama an intensely personal tribute.

"History is made when a leader's passion - passion - is matched with principle to set a new course. Well, ladies and gentlemen, Mr President, you are that leader," Biden said, as Obama looked on.

"Everybody knows the story, starting with Teddy Roosevelt. They've tried. They were real bold leaders. But, Mr President, they fell short."

In his own speech, Obama dwelt on his mother's fatal cancer fight at some times smiling, but at others looking wistful and almost distant, as if the magnitude of his achievement was just sinking in.

Obama said the bill was proof that America had not lost the ability to think big.

"We don't shrink from our responsibilities. We embrace it. We don't fear the future. We shape the future. That's what we do. That's who we are."

Signing the bill, Obama sat at a desk beside Representative John Dingell, who had hobbled in on crutches, waving one triumphantly in the air. Dingell arrived in Congress in 1955 and has fought ever since for universal health insurance.

To his right was Owens, with Biden's hands on his shoulders, and at one point Obama appeared moved as he gazed across at the boy and signed his name with 20 separate pens to preserve the moment for posterity.

Republicans, who opposed the signing ceremony en masse and who hope Tuesday's event marks the moment that Democrats will have bound themselves to an unpopular big government "power grab", were nowhere to be seen.

"We've heard a lot today about how historic this bill is, and it's true," said Republican National Committee (RNC) chairperson Michael Steele in a statement.

"It is an historic betrayal of the clear will of the American people. It is an historic loss of liberty."

House Republican leader John Boehner added: "This is a somber day for the American people. Americans have never felt more disconnected from their government than they do today." - AFP

Benjamin Domenech: The Fine Print Doesn't Square With the President's Soaring Rhetoric on Health Care

Health Care Special Deals: What's Left In?
Dems Sweeten Health Bill in Final Push

The New Ledger) Benjamin Domenech, a former speechwriter and political appointee at the Department of Health and Human Services, is managing editor of Health Care News.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Barack Obama’s final speech before this weekend’s anticipated vote on health care legislation had the same soaring rhetoric he’s been known for, those turns of phrase that sound awfully pretty unless you think about them too hard.

Obama’s speeches are what a speechwriter I knew liked to call “cotton candy communication”-sticky sweet and airy, made for children, comforting to the listener as they hear, but melting away, instantly forgettable. Plus, ingest too much of it and you get sick as a dog.

There was one note in this speech, though, that stuck out by typifying Obama’s views, encapsulating his approach to health care policy, and indicating a disturbing level of desperation in his young presidency.

“In just a few days,” Obama said, referring to the Sunday roll call, “a century-long struggle will culminate in an historic vote.”

Obama likes to cast things in terms of century-long battles. He did so in his State of the Union address, referring to a law considered half that age at most, which prompted a headshake from Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. But what is prompting him to make this assertion regarding his health care legislation, which dramatically affects an arena of government policy that has not even existed for a hundred years?

There is no conceivable date he could be measuring from, unless he has a strong sense of irony not previously in evidence. Trust-busting Teddy Roosevelt would undoubtedly excoriate the idea of special interests setting the parameters of national reform, with support campaigns from unions and activist shell groups, PhRMA in the room during every significant negotiation, more than a hundred-million dollars in propagandistic ads for legislation which will protect the industry status quo, and the like.

The fact that Obama continues to spend such energy in support of legislation that all reputable independent data suggest will raise premium costs, increase the entitlement burden, destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs, and enforce a dramatic disincentive for success indicates that this is all about politics, not which policies actually work best for the American people.

Over the past week, in backroom conversations with members of Congress, Obama changed his negotiation tone from demanding to desperate. He told progressives that the outcome of the rest of his term depended on what happened on health care, and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus confided to Politico that Obama changed his position on this weekend’s vote by saying “the fate of his presidency” rested on it.

It’s not hard to see why the president would feel this way. The tidal wave of popularity he rode into office has crashed and withdrawn. This week Gallup found, for the first time, that more Americans disapprove of President Obama than approve - a shift made all the more jarring when you consider how little he has achieved in his short tenure in return for so much spent political capital.

Such crumbling popularity would give any politician pause, especially one who has spent most of his political career appearing before cheering crowds who proclaim trust, optimism, and hope for him. Obama’s dedication to passing this spectacularly flawed and unpopular health care bill appears to be based on the assumption that the American people like a winner even if the victory comes at their expense.

Other presidents have made this mistake. Voters may not have memories as long as they once did, but they will remember who this brave new health care world belongs to, and the blame for it will be a palpable political factor in the decades to come.

As the dangerous outcomes of this plan become apparent, Obama may well come to regret this moment when he chose political expediency over what’s right for the nation. When historians judge this presidency they may well point to this moment as signaling the end of Obama’s cotton candy storyline of “the people vs. the powerful,” the rhetoric that once drove to his side multitudes of people fed up with the ways of Washington, the lies, kickbacks, shady backroom deals, and lack of transparency.

Once, they trusted and hoped in his ability to achieve change. Now the American people know whose side he’s on.

New Missile Defense Agency logo more than meets the eye?

By Thomas R. Horn
February 25, 2010

NewsWithViews.com

A new logo for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is strikingly similar to the one Obama used during his 2008 campaign. Designed by TMP Government, the new emblem bears an Islamic crest amidst the same color scheme and three red stripes that defined the official Obama campaign logo during his run for the presidency.

Given MDA's mission within the Department of Defense to "develop, test, and field an integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all ranges of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight," the new logo looks and feels oddly out of place. The old logo (below left) clearly represented the defensive responsibility the MDA holds in protecting the United States and its interests from airborne threats, while the new logo appears to reflect ambiguous metaphysical ideas, employing the same color scheme -- blue, white, and three red stripes -- of Obama's campaign logo, plus a stylized earth as an Islamic crest.

Old MDA Logo ------ New MDA Logo --------- Obama Campaign Logo
Worse, the symbols and numerological values on the new seal mirror Islamic and Christian beliefs about the final world leader -- the Antichrist -- say prophecy experts. This new logo may even cleverly perpetuate Obama as a type of, if not the, Antichrist.

If a logo was designed representing Islamic and Christian eschatology concerning the final world leader, it could look very much like the new MDA seal. Its has 7 rays that stand alone. The 8th joins a red swath, which itself is divided into 3 red stripes. These 8 plus the 3 red focal points equal 11. Prophecy scholars will immediately recognize the value of this specific symbolism and numerology -- the numbers 3, 7, 8, and 11 -- as connected to the coming of Antichrist. When the Islamic crescent is added to this mix of symbolism within the context of what is believed about Obama's true origin of birth and religion, it is quite disturbing.

But should symbols and parts of a logo be interpreted in this way?

Absolutely. Notwithstanding the MDA is denying any connection to the Obama campaign logo, corporations and agencies develop logos to convey meaning and the Obama logo may be the most well-known in recent history. This is Semiotics, also called semiotic studies or semiology, in which signs, symbols, and logos are meant to communicate something about the parent organization, its purpose and mission. Sometimes it is also intended to have a subliminal effect upon those that look upon it, to influence them in ways they may not even understand.

According to famous Freemason, Foster Bailey, symbols intentionally hide "a secret…which veils mysterious forces. These energies when released can have a potent effect."

Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle once famously added: "By symbols, accordingly, is man guided and commanded, made happy, made wretched."

Sidney Webb, founder of the Fabian Society described this process as having the ability to play "those millions of minds, to watch them slowly respond to an unseen stimulas, to guide their aspirations without their knowledge—all this whether in high capacities or in humble—is a big and endless game of chess, of ever extraordinary excitement."

Well-known prophecy expert Steve Quayle sees a hidden message in the new MDA logo as well: "One cannot get away from the fact that the twelfth Imam is heralded in Islamic apocalyptic writings as the coming messiah. I believe Obama sees himself as this Imam Mahdi. The monkey god Hanuman, the talisman that Obama carries in his pocket, is portrayed in the Indian epic 'Ramayana' as an intermediary between two worlds, the celestial and the divine. This new logo at MDA embellishes the crescent and star symbol of the coming 'GREAT WAR' between heaven and earth, between angels and demons, between this devil and his legions and Almighty God."
Award winning filmmaker Christian J. Pinto believes the symbolism in the new Missile Defense Agency logo matches prophecy concerning the man of sin and a New World Order as the Revived Roman Empire of prophecy, in that the Reformers, such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, believed that Rome and Islam were "the two horns of the beast." Prophetically speaking, the two legs of the statue envisioned by King Nebuchadnezzar became the Eastern and Western Roman Empire, he says, where the West was ruled by the Vatican, while the East eventually fell to the sword of Islam. "The Reformers believed that the Islamic Antichrist would destroy the body of the Church through slaughter, while the Roman Antichrist would destroy the soul of the Church through false doctrine," he says.

The numerological significance of the new MDA logo envisions this prophecy. The numbers 3 and 7 hold special places in biblical end times events and are directly related to deity, while the number 8 represents resurrection, and 11 represents evil incarnate, disorder, and judgment. When referring to the beast with ten horns (Roman Empire), the prophet Daniel, as he was considering these horns, said, "there came up among them another little horn" (Daniel 7:8). According to scholars, this 11th horn is the Antichrist, who will derive power from a revived Roman Empire and New World Order. In Jewish mysticism and numerology, the number 11 is thus considered the essence of all that is sinful, harmful, and imperfect. Any biblical scholar of numerology and symbolism would agree therefore that, if interpreted based on their fixed numerological, historical, and prophetic meaning, this logo if interpreted based on its occult significance literally means: evil incarnate (11) will be resurrected (8) as deity (3 and 7) and hold Islam in esteem.

David Hitt, an intellectual property attorney and former 32nd degree Freemason with an interest in occult symbolism observes that the three red stripes in the logo come to an end at the crescent, at which point the eighth ray, which is small relative to the other rays, emerges in their place. This is in line with Daniel's specific prophecy that three horns of an original 10 horns are cut off in favor of a small, eighth horn. Additionally, the glaring light from which the rays on this new logo emanate depict a sun rising, perhaps to signify the dawning of a new, occult age.

On pages 106-107 of Apollyon Rising 2012 important additional information says:

A Hadith (tradition) sacred to Shiite Islam from the seventeenth century contains a prophecy from Ali ibn Abi-Talib, which predicts that just before the return of the Mahdi (the end-times redeemer of Islam), a "tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West." This leader will command "the strongest army on earth" and will bear "a clear sign" from the third imam, Hussein. The prophecy concludes that: "Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us."
Does this Islamic prophecy identify Obama as the "promised warrior" who comes to help the savior of Shiite Muslims conquer the world? Amir Taheri asked this very question for Forbes Magazine in October 2008, pointing out how "Obama’s first and second names—Barack Hussein—mean ‘the blessing of Hussein’ in Arabic and Persian" while his "family name, Obama, written in the Persian alphabet, reads O Ba Ma, meaning ‘he is with us,’ the magic formula in Majlisi’s tradition."

Many have pointed out how reporters, politicians, celebrities, and even preachers celebrated the "spiritual nature" of Obama’s meteoric rise from near obscurity to U.S. president, and how this may have reflected people’s strong desire for the coming of an earthly savoir.

San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford characterized Obama as "a sort of powerful luminosity." In Morford’s opinion, this was because Obama is "a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to…help usher in a new way of being on the planet."

The dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, Lawrence Carter, went further, comparing Obama to the coming of Jesus Christ: "It is powerful and significant on a spiritual level that there is the emergence of Barack Obama.… No one saw him coming, and Christians believe God comes at us from strange angles and places we don’t expect, like Jesus being born in a manger."

Dinesh Sharma, a marketing science consultant with a PhD in psychology from Harvard, appraised Obama likewise: "Many…see in Obama a messiah-like figure, a great soul, and some affectionately call him Mahatma Obama."

While the dismal state of the economy has tempered the messianic language around Obama lately, a belief involving his divinity remains beneath the surface, waiting, some believe, for the right moment when he will be presented as something more than human. Washington Post film critic Michael O'Sullivan noted just last week that the new teen film Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief suggests that such a scenario, in some peoples opinion, could eventually illustrate that President Obama is a demigod.

Obama yet to kick smoking habit, should eat better

AP – President Barack Obama returns to the White House from the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, …

By STEVEN R. HURST, Associated Press Writer Steven R. Hurst, Associated Press Writer – Sun Feb 28, 2:51 pm ET

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama hasn't kicked the smoking habit, takes anti-inflammatory medication to relieve chronic tendinitis in his left knee and should eat better to lower his cholesterol, his team of doctors concluded Sunday after the 48-year-old's first medical checkup as commander in chief.

The hoops-happy chief executive, who has endured an exhausting White House run and yearlong battles with congressional Republicans, was otherwise declared in excellent health and fit for duty.

The White House physician, Navy Capt. Jeffrey Kuhlman, said Obama should stick with "smoking cessation efforts," the use of nicotine gum, and come back in August 2011 after he turns 50.

Obama cholesterol levels have crept up to borderline high and he should alter his diet accordingly, according to a report the White House released after the 90-minute examination at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. While at the facility, he visited 12 military service members receiving treatment and rehabilitation for injuries suffered in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The president is the picture of health, eats modest portions and exercises regularly. He is an avid basketball player and golfer. The slightly elevated cholesterol levels, tendinitis in his left knee and occasional smoking were the only negatives noted.

Obama said at a June news conference that he still had an occasional cigarette. It was his first public acknowledgment that he hadn't kicked the habit. He chews nicotine gum to avoid regular smoking, and his doctor said that should continue.

Kuhlman also said the president should modify his diet to bring his LDL, or bad cholesterol, below 130. At the time of his last exam, Obama's total cholesterol was 173, while his LDL was 96 and HDL, or good cholesterol, was 68.

This time, total cholesterol was up to 209, with HDL down slightly at 62. LDL was up to 138. Borderline high cholesterol starts at 200, with LDL considered in the same category at 130.

Kuhlman said Obama last checkup was in July 2008 when he was seen by the attending physician to Congress when Obama was an Illinois senator. During the 2008 White House race, his campaign released a statement from his longtime Chicago doctor saying Obama was in excellent health when examined January 2007.

Sunday's report said Obama is 6-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds in shoes and exercise clothing. His pulse rate is 56, which is very good, as is his blood pressure — 105 over 62. The doctor said Obama's vision was 20/20 in both eyes for both distance and near vision.

The president was checked for and found free of colon cancer with a virtual colonoscopy, a scan that avoids the more invasive visual inspection with a camera device that is passed into the large intestine.

The tendinitis that Obama suffers in his left leg could be the result of his regular basketball playing.

Kuhlman said that there was mild popping and grinding in Obama's left knee and "some weakness" in his left hip, also possibly a result of rigorous and extended periods on the basketball court.

The doctor said Obama should:

_Have another exam for colon cancer in five years

_Continue smoking cessation efforts, a daily exercise program, a healthy diet, moderation in alcohol intake, periodic dental care, and remain up to date with recommended immunizations.

_Keep up a modified exercise regimen to strengthen his legs to ward off more difficulties with his knee.

_Modify his diet to lower his LDL cholesterol below 130.

Obama Misses Point on Prayer Breakfast

Written by Bruce Walker
Saturday, 06 February 2010 12:00

It is hard to imagine how a National Prayer Breakfast could be controversial, but it has become that. This tradition stretching back through five decades of American political life and including every American president during that period, has become controversial under President Obama. A gathering which has included people as diverse as Tony Blair and Mother Teresa has somehow come to be seen as exclusionary. How?

The National Prayer Breakfast, although very inclusive, does have some framework. The same broad Judeo-Christian values that were recognized early by the Founding Fathers are part of the event. Those values inevitably involve some proscribed actions and beliefs. Atheism, for example, is incompatible with the National Prayer Breakfast. Prayers, after all, are directed at a divine being.

In fact, the National Prayer Breakfast is supported by a Christian organization called the “Fellowship” or the “Family.” Those ideologically on the Left have begun to openly call for political leaders to attend alternative prayer events, with the emphasis on those areas in which traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs are deemed no longer in synch with modern life.

President Obama, when he addressed the National Prayer Breakfast, called for a return to civility in politics. He equated the lack of “civility” with citizens pressing their claim that Obama was not actually born in the United States. Obama also equated the lack of “civility” with those the sincerity of Obama’s faith. He also specifically tied “civility” to common efforts by “Americans of faith, and no faith, united around a common purpose.”

The president’s remarks seemed to minimize the importance of the traditional religious faith of Christians and of Jews in favor of a sort of Confucian protocol of manners, a society of communal rather that personal good works, and a religious vessel so hollowed out as to effectively be agnostic or atheistic. Stripping traditional spiritual values, the foundational principles of our nation, out of the National Prayer Breakfast seems part of a broad attack on those parts of religion that place stop signs on immoral behavior. The emphasis of Obama on “civility,” while not wrong per se, appears to make hurt feelings, acceptance at any cost, and the inclusion of every type of behavior as moral behavior always able to trump the idea that there are objective wrongs or sinful behavior, that preachers and prophets (in the tradition of Jews and Christians) condemn such behavior no matter how popular it might be, and that divine forgiveess requires repentance and remorse.

The National Prayer Breakfast, a private event, was never intended to end religious values in the name of tolerance. It was intended instead to celebrate those values that priests, ministers, and rabbis throughout American history have championed and preserved. Although those values are broad, like America, the values are not infinitely malleable or subject to political or popular modification.

US President Barack Obama has called for world leaders to take action over climate, telling delegates at the Copenhagen summit ''the time for talk is over''.

He said all major economies must put forward action to reduce carbon emissions, and added there had to be a mechanism to review emissions on a global scale.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is giving himself "a good solid B-plus" grade for his first year in office.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday night, the president claimed progress on economic and international fronts.

Obama says the only thing that stands in the way of giving himself a better grade is the fact that some elements of his agenda — health care reform and putting more Americans to work — remain undone.

On the ABC special "Christmas at the White House," Obama told Winfrey that "the biggest burden on me right now is that economic growth has happened, but job growth has not happened."

He sees as a plus the fact that the United States is pulling out of Iraq and says the U.S. is on the correct path in Afghanistan.

P.S.
He sure is over-confident about his accomplishments!
The question is: What grade do Americans give him?
