Something Is VERY WRONG With Times Square Right Now

Something Is VERY WRONG With Times Square Right Now

What Happened America?

Sep 20, 2026

Times Square is the most visited place in America and one of the few addresses on earth that needs no introduction. It is also a place almost nobody who lives in New York will willingly walk through.

This video traces how the "Crossroads of the World" became something New Yorkers actively route around: an eighteen-month Broadway shutdown that theaters are still recovering from, a retail corridor where independent businesses were replaced by chains and then by empty glass, a pedestrian plaza experiment that solved traffic and created a new problem, and an ongoing fight over costumed characters, ticket hustlers, and who the square actually belongs to.

The strange part is that the visitor numbers keep recovering while the experience keeps getting worse — and the people who run Times Square know it. This is what happened to the most famous intersection in the world, and why fixing it has proven harder than anyone expected.

NYC braces for multiple daily protests as world leaders arrive for UN General Assembly

NEW YORK — As New York braces for multiple daily protests around this year's United Nations General Assembly, NYPD officers will flood midtown Manhattan to protect the public and controversial world leaders scheduled to attend, including President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Thursday.

"Every year, we see an uptick in demonstrations and protests coinciding with the U.N. General Assembly, and as always, the NYPD will facilitate First Amendment activity," Tisch said at a briefing at NYPD headquarters Thursday. "At the same time, there will be intolerance for violence or destruction of property."

Beginning Friday, the NYPD will be monitoring 55 permitted UNGA-related events, NYPD officials said.

"We're expecting multiple protests every day," Tisch added.

There are currently no credible threats against the event, said Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who also attended Thursday's briefing.

Mamdani did not speak about Netanyahu's attendance at the U.N. General Assembly, even though he has repeatedly called the Israeli leader a "war criminal" and had demanded his arrest over the war in Gaza just two months earlier.

"He is the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people," he said in a video posted online on July 21. "There is a reason the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest."

Although he vowed to arrest Netanyahu on the warrant during his campaign, he acknowledged in the same July video that New York City "does not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant" and encouraged the federal government to arrest him.

How a Family of 4 Lives on $225,000 a Year in Washington Heights

How can people possibly afford to live in one of the most expensive cities on the planet? It’s a question New Yorkers hear a lot, often delivered with a mix of awe, pity and confusion.

We surveyed hundreds of New Yorkers about how they spend, splurge and save. We found that many people — rich, poor or somewhere in between — live life as a series of small calculations that add up to one big question:

Ellen Hagan grew up in a small town in Kentucky, and moved to New York City as quickly as she could after she graduated from college. She arrived a few weeks before Sept. 11, and tried to get her bearings in a city turned upside down.

She found a group of fellow young artists and writers who wanted to take advantage of everything they could in the city, on very limited budgets. They went to poetry readings and dance parties, and rented tiny apartments in the East Village.

All the while, Ms. Hagan was diligent about saving money, even when she had very little of it.

“I didn’t know what I was saving for, but I knew I wasn’t going to have a job that would give me a pension,” she said. “I wanted to make enough money to live the New York existence I was dreaming of.”

(New York, NY) – After a weekend full of Iranian Americans celebrating the killing of Ayatollah Khomeini in the streets, now the mourners are taking over Washington Square Park. The vigil is being hosted by several left-wing activist groups including Crown Heights Bites Back and the Bronx Anti-War Coalition. The groups have held similar events for other notorious leaders from the Middle East including Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

In an Instagram post promoting the event, organizers say: “this vigil is a solemn reminder that Amerikan colonial violence is a singular evil”. Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, who could be facing censure by the council’s ethics committee, decried the event on social media.

Meanwhile, Operation Epic Fury continues in Iran. President Donald Trump says a ground incursion would be a waste of time. The Islamic Republic has been hit hard according to US officials, however Iran is still launching attacks using drones. Iran is vowing to retaliate after the US successfully sank an Iranian warship. There is still a power vacuum left after the death of Khomeini. The late Supreme Leader’s son has been selected as his replacement, but President Trump says that would be the worst possible choice and vows the US will play a role in choosing the future leader of Iran.
