Regional Conference Weighs in on Voter ID and Redistricting
May 26, 2026 NewsHound
On their Facebook page, the South Central (regional) conference posted a statement yesterday about voting rights. Here’s the statement:

Some Online Comments:
- “For all those saying this is inappropriate? Remember that this church was founded on the abolition movement, religious liberty (for all), and supporting public policies that improve the social fabric (as misguided as temperance was). The SDA movement was progressive and political”
- “As a SDA, and a person of color. I would like say this to this woke conference that no one is denying anyone to vote, especially me since I've been voting here in Georgia for many years. BTW...Showing your id to vote, is not racist. Perhaps the racists is the South Central Conference, please stop speaking for us, thank you.”
- “No one is being denied the right to vote. Redistricting needs to be done in some cases to prevent the gerrymandering that has gone on for years. The church needs to stay out of this.”
- “So what exactly is this letter saying? As far as I know, if you are a US citizen you have the right to vote. If you have to show identification to prove you are a citizen, I don't see the problem. Why would redistricting cause any issue? You still have that right. These are genuine questions, not arguments. Im not looking for opinion, I'd like facts.”
- “This is pure politics dressed in holiness robes. Gerrymandering voter districts by race is illegal! That it has been done, and a slight bit of it is now being UNdone, is not a civil rights issue to begin protesting.”
- “I wonder where the similar outrage post was when Virginia, California, New York, Massachusetts, etc. were all making similar redirecting changes. Strange how SDAs had no concern with politics then?”
- “Thank you for this statement! HOWEVER!! This is NOT the stance of “the church“ by and large ( that a party or candidate is not endorsed). We need to address that. We are here because of “the church’s“ participation in what got us here in the first place.”
- “Not like some SDA members care what is voted for. We voted on “no” women pastors but here we are.”

Shooting Suspect ID'd as Cole Allen Pinned to Ground at White House Correspondents' Dinner

Cole Allen, 31-year-old California teacher, ID’d as White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter
Published April 25, 2026, 11:01 p.m. ET
WASHINGTON — The gunman who opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night has been identified as Cole Allen of Torrance, Calif. — with President Trump calling him a likely “lone wolf whack job” who “looked pretty evil.”
The 31-year-old, whom a federal law enforcement source confirmed is a teacher, was arrested after allegedly entering the Washington Hilton hotel and charging toward the ballroom where Trump and roughly 2,500 guests had assembled.
The gunfire broke out near the event’s indoor security screening area just after 8:30 p.m. — as salad was being served. The Secret Service rushed Trump out of the room as members of his cabinet ducked under tables before they too were evacuated.
Allen’s neighbor, who gave the name Jeff Smith, told The Post that “maybe he could be on the spectrum.”

House GOP pushes strict proof-of-citizenship requirement for voters ahead of midterm elections

WASHINGTON -- House Republicans rushed to approve legislation on Wednesday that would impose strict new proof-of-citizenship requirements ahead of the midterm elections, a long shot Trump administration priority that faces sharp blowback in the Senate.
The bill, called the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility, or SAVE America Act, would require Americans to prove they are citizens when they register to vote, mostly through a valid U.S. passport or birth certificate. It would also require a valid photo identification before voters can cast ballots, which some states already demand. It was approved on a mostly party-line vote, 218-213.
Republicans said the legislation is needed to prevent voter fraud, but Democrats warn it will disenfranchise millions of Americans by making it harder to vote. Federal law already requires that voters in national elections be U.S. citizens, but there's no requirement to provide documentary proof. Experts said voter fraud is extremely rare, and very few noncitizens ever slip through the cracks. Fewer than one in 10 Americans don't have paperwork proving they are citizens.
"Some of my colleagues will call this voter suppression or Jim Crow 2.0," said Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., presenting the package at a committee hearing.
But he said "those allegations are false," and he argued the bill is needed to enforce existing laws, particularly those that bar immigrants who are not citizens from voting. "The current law is not strong enough," he said.

Authorities have released photos and videos of a possible suspect and offered a reward as the manhunt continues. The school said in a statement that "local police have advised they do not believe there is any immediate threat to Brown or the local community."
Many students stopped by a makeshift memorial to remember the victims before leaving for winter break.
"It's just heartbreaking for the community, we're all really in shock right now," student Jack Cox told CBS News Boston.

Goodbye to showing your passport—the TSA launches contactless identification at airports in major US cities
TSA is implementing a lot of changes so that our experience going through security checks isn’t so complicated, and now they’ve launched a new Touchless ID system for people who have PreCheck. What does this mean? Well, with facial recognition (yes, they scan your face) you don’t need to show your ID at some airports in the country. And it’s not just a few, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco have already joined this change because speed is what matters most to these users. And now it will be even faster, you’ll look at a camera, and in less than a blink the system will recognize your face and off you go! The best part? You don’t even have to stop to talk to anyone.
What is Touchless ID
This new system is called TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, and it’s already working in the main cities of the country. If you already have PreCheck, you just have to activate the option from your airline’s website or app (in the travel documents section), and from there, in compatible airports, all you need is a face scan. They take a photo, compare it to the one they already have in the database (from your passport or real ID), and if everything matches, you pass “the test”.
