Ilhan Omar’s sister skips book tour event amid week of chaos following raid on progressive’s DC home
By Peter D'Abrosca, Fox News

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The older sister of embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who is currently on a book tour promoting a memoir about her life as a Somali immigrant, skipped a scheduled event due to a “family emergency” amid the fallout from the raid on the congresswoman’s home.
As Omar faces a federal government probe related to potential immigration fraud as well as a separate investigation into her financial disclosures, Sahra Noor was scheduled for a book tour stop at the University of Minnesota Rochester on Thursday night.
She currently lives in Nairobi, Kenya, according to her LinkedIn page, but is on a worldwide book tour promoting her recently-released “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Noor for comment but did not hear back at time of publication.
According to a flyer, which was posted on Facebook by Rochester-based bookstore Garden Party Books, the event was scheduled for Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. It was set to be held at the Intercultural Student Center at the University of Minnesota Rochester.

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s relatives subpoenaed by feds as DHS investigates lawmaker’s immigration history

The subpoenas went out to Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other member of her family as part of the ongoing criminal fraud investigation, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.
Noor is the author of a recently published memoir about immigrating from Somalia. She also runs a Minneapolis-based consulting firm that touts having secured “more than $20 million in funding for health initiatives and consulted on projects backed by” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, United States Agency for International Development and other groups.
Noor did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Federal investigators have been looking into the immigration history of Omar’s family, including whether the congresswoman’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, lied or omitted information on immigration forms before becoming a citizen, the outlet reported.
Omar’s 2022 congressional primary opponent, AJ Kern, obtained documents from a US Citizenship and Immigration Services information officer in 2023 showing “no record” of Nur Omar Mohamed having been naturalized as a US citizen, The Post reported earlier Monday.
Omar has long claimed she became a citizen at the age of 17, through her father’s naturalization.
The subpoena revelation comes one day after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raided the home Omar shares with her husband, Tim Mynett.

I Went No Contact with My Parents. I Regret It.
A therapist told me my mom and dad were causing all my problems—so I cut them off for five years.

In 2008, Christina Buttons took the advice from her therapist to cut off her parents completely. (Illustration by The Free Press)

“We have two adult children, a son aged 30 and a daughter aged 27. We are estranged from them both,” wrote a 60-year-old mom.
“Our oldest son, 27, has gone no contact with our entire family,” wrote a 57-year-old mom.
“It seems like she’s been influenced by the “no contact” movement too common in her generation, which rejects normal parents as toxic,” wrote yet another mom, this one 55, whose daughter doesn’t speak to her.
I’ve read so many messages from people who are desperately sad that their adult children don’t talk to them. That’s because I’m the editor of Tough Love with Abigail Shrier, our weekly advice column, so it’s my job to sort through the letters she gets. You ask: How do you rebuild a relationship with your son when you’ve been cut off? If your daughter’s decided you’re toxic, how do you cope with the pain?
At the heart of these questions is another, even deeper one: How could my own child reject me like this?
In her essay today, Christina Buttons answers that question—explaining why she went no contact with her parents for five years, at the age of 19, and why she’ll always regret it.
If you’re one of the many people who’s told us that your child isn’t speaking to you right now: This is proof that there’s always hope.

How a Family of 4 Lives on $225,000 a Year in Washington Heights
How can people possibly afford to live in one of the most expensive cities on the planet? It’s a question New Yorkers hear a lot, often delivered with a mix of awe, pity and confusion.
We surveyed hundreds of New Yorkers about how they spend, splurge and save. We found that many people — rich, poor or somewhere in between — live life as a series of small calculations that add up to one big question:
Ellen Hagan grew up in a small town in Kentucky, and moved to New York City as quickly as she could after she graduated from college. She arrived a few weeks before Sept. 11, and tried to get her bearings in a city turned upside down.
She found a group of fellow young artists and writers who wanted to take advantage of everything they could in the city, on very limited budgets. They went to poetry readings and dance parties, and rented tiny apartments in the East Village.
All the while, Ms. Hagan was diligent about saving money, even when she had very little of it.
“I didn’t know what I was saving for, but I knew I wasn’t going to have a job that would give me a pension,” she said. “I wanted to make enough money to live the New York existence I was dreaming of.”

Polyamorous Relationships Rapidly Gaining Gov’t Blessing

“Why only two?”
The question, posed six years ago by J.T. Scott, a member of the city council of Somerville, Massachusetts, is at the heart of the debate concerning government recognition of polyamory.
Scott and his colleague on the city council were considering a domestic partnership ordinance. The original language of the draft specified a domestic partnership as being “between two people,” according to The Harvard Crimson.
Councilor Lance L. Davis paused, saying “something didn’t feel quite right,” reports The Crimson. Scott asked the question: “Why only two?”
Davis, in his words, executed a “few simple tweaks,” altering the ordinance to permit groups of more than two adults to register in domestic partnerships together. The city council voted 11-0 to pass the ordinance.
It was signed by then-Mayor Joe Curtatone on June 29, 2020, becoming the first “multiple-partner domestic partnership ordinance” in the United States, according to the Harvard Law Review.
Cambridge, Somerville’s neighbor, followed suit, amending their existing domestic partnership statute to cover two or more persons in 2021.

NEED TO KNOW
- Zohran Mamdani was born in 1991 to dad Mahmood Mamdani, a professor, and Mira Nair, a filmmaker
- Zohran's parents raised him in Uganda and South Africa before their family relocated to New York City in 1999
- Zohran is now the Democratic nominee for New York mayor, and Mahmood and Mira have spoken out in support of their son
Mahmood is a professor of government and anthropology at Columbia University, and Mira is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker who focuses largely on South Asian and Indian stories. The couple met in the late 1980s in Uganda and welcomed their son in 1991. The family lived in Africa for nearly a decade before moving to New York when Zohran was 7 years old.
The New York City mayoral candidate's views have been shaped by his upbringing, from witnessing his father’s career in academia and watching his mother’s movies, which often showcase overlooked perspectives.
Zohran told City & State in April 2023 that he spent time as a child attending rallies and marches with his parents, including protests over the Iraq war and Marxist lectures.
“When you’re the kid of two parents who are very involved in social justice, a lot of times what you remember as a playdate was you being at some rally or some march,” he said.
Here's everything to know about Zohran Mamdani’s parents, Mahmood Mamdani and Mira Nair.
They raised Zohran in Uganda, South Africa and New York

Zohran Mamdani’s Democratic Socialists of America comrades push ‘abolition’ of traditional family
By Rich Calder
Published Aug. 9, 2025, 8:50 a.m. ET
Zohran Mamdani’s twisted comrades at the Democratic Socialists of America pushed for the “abolition” of the traditional family at their annual conference, called marriage and sex work “two sides of the same coin” and proclaimed abortions should be done in churches.
Panelists at the “Socialism 2025” conference last month in Chicago did victory laps over Mamdani’s June win in the Democratic primary for NYC mayor, repeatedly touting his lefty agenda over the four-day commie-fest, video of the event shows.
Speakers at “The Left and the Family” seminar ignored the Uganda-born Mamdani’s ultra-privileged upbringing by his Hollywood-director mom and radical Columbia University dad, all while parroting central tenets of Marxist ideology to the audience — that the nuclear family is inherently repressive, racist, sexist and promotes capitalism.
“In addition to the abolition of family policing [government-run child protective services], we argue for abolition of the family in general and say that the institution of the family acts as part of the carceral system in that it reinforces children as property,” said panelist Olivia Katbi, co-chair of the DSA in Portland, Ore.
Eman Abdelhadi, another panelist who is also an assistant professor at University of Chicago’s Department of Comparative Human Development, said many fellow lefties are “surprised at how few people are ready for revolt.”
