Christian J. Pinto: The Society Of Jesus Their Moral Maxims And Plots

The Real Reveal

Jul 18, 2025

The Society of Jesus (a.k.a. the Jesuit Order) is perhaps the most controversial organization of the last 500 years.  Their activities have been warned about by kings, princes, preachers, and even American presidents.  By the year 1931, the Jesuits had been expelled from at least 83 countries, city states and cities for their subversive activities around the world.  Nineteenth century historian, Thomas Carlyle called their founder, Ignatius Loyola “the poison fountain from which these rivers of bitterness that now submerge the world have flowed.”  Despite these things, few Christians in modern times know either their history or their present activities in the world today.

In this dynamic audio CD, documentary filmmaker Christian J. Pinto interviews Dr. Ronald Cooke, author of the book, The Jesuit Kulturkampf in the United States, as they unfold important information about the Jesuits in modern times.  This CD differs from our other CDs on the Jesuits in that it specifically focuses on their activities in America today through ecumenism and communitarianism.

Why True Christians Reject the Pope and Roman Catholic Doctrine (Ian Pai...

The Sharper Sword

Sep 19, 2015

Ian Paisley in an awesome sermon warning against the Pope and the coming kingdom of Antichrist from the very frontlines of the onslaught of the ecumenical movement which he and his congregation stood against in Ulster, successfully. Paisley teaches us by his life's example what spiritual warfare will be like for true Christians all over the world in these final days of this Age. This sermon touches on many verses to support the idea of purity in both doctrine and deed, including Biblical support for the permissibility of protesting and resisting all heresy, ungodliness, and cultural wickedness; but this sermon is most prominently rooted in the prophecies, of 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2, which tell of the coming Antichrist. And for nearly 1600 years now, the most Antichristian force in the Western world has been the Roman Catholic Church. Although there are many in that church and elsewhere who (falsely or not) call themselves Christians, you ought to know by now that the devil prefers to camouflage himself as a friend rather than to appear overtly and honestly in a form that shows who he truly is in his heart: a liar, a thief, and a murderer from the beginning. Follow along in the real Bible here: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/....

Development Of The Papacy From Gregory VII To Boniface VIII

Now to the last great struggle. There lacked one grade of power to crown this stupendous fabric of papal dominion. Spiritual Supremacy was achieved in the seventh century, the temporal sovereignty in the eighth; it wanted only the pontifical supremacy, known as the temporal supremacy, to make the Pope supreme over kings, as he had already become over peoples and bishops, and to vest in him a jurisdiction that has not its like on earth - a unique jurisdiction arrogating all powers, absorbing all rights, and spurning all limits. Destined, before terminating its career, to crush beneath its iron foot thrones and nations, and masking ambition as astute as Lucifer's with dissimulation as profound, this power advanced at first with noiseless steps. It stole upon the world as night. Its strides grew longer and swifter as it reached its goal finally vaulting over the throne of monarchs into the seat of God.

Claiming to be the vicars of Christ, the popes knew that it would be imprudent, indeed impossible, yet to assert it in actual fact. Their prudent motto was Spes messis in semine. Discerning "the harvest in the seed", they skillfully and perservingly lodged the principle of supremacy both in their creed, and in the European mind, knowing future ages would ripen it.

Papal daring and ambition

At length came overt measures. It was 1073. Perhaps the greatest of all the Popes, Gregory VII, the noted Hildebrand, held the papal chair. Daring and ambitious beyond all preceding, and beyond most to follow, Gregory fully grasped the Theocratic concept. He equated the reign of the Pope with the reign of God. He tirelessly sought the subjection of all authority and power, spiritual and temporal, to Peter's chair. "When he drew out the whole system of Papal omnipotence in twenty-seven theses in his Dictatus, he repeated the Isidorian decretals giving them the appearance of antiquity by new fictions." For example the eleventh maxim says, "the Pope's name is the chief name in the world;" the twelfth teaches that, "it is lawful for him to depose emperors;" the eighteenth affirms that "his decision is to be withstood by none, but he alone may annul those of all men". The nineteenth declares that, "he can be judged by no one". The twenty-fifth vests in him the absolute power of deposing and restoring bishops, and the twenty-seventh the power of annulling the allegiance of subjects. Gregory flung down this gage before kings and nations - for the pontifical supremacy embraces all who dwell upon the earth.

POPE v EMPIRE

The mitre and the (Holy Roman) empire were now at war. Gregory sought to wrest from the emperors the power of appointing the bishops and the clergy, assuming into his sole and irresponsible hands all the intellectual and spiritual machinery by which Christendom was governed. The strife was bloody. The mitre nevertheless continued to gain steadily upon the empire. The superstitious spirit of the times helped the priesthood struggle with the civil power. Superstitious to the core, the age was nevertheless thoroughly ecclesiastical. The crusades broke the spirit and drained the wealth of the princes. The growing power and riches of the clergy militated ever more against the State.

Gregory VII briefly tasted this immortal power. He saw Henry IV of Germany, whom he had smitten with excommunication, stand barefooted in sackcloth, waiting three days and nights at the castle-gates of Canossa, amid winter drifts, suing for forgiveness. Hildebrand stood on this dazzling pinnacle for a moment only. Fortunes of war quickly turned. Henry once humiliated became victor in his turn. Gregory died in exile upon Salerno's promontory. But his successors strove by wiles, by arms, and by anathemas, to reduce the world under the sceptre of the Papal Theocracy. For two dismal centuries melancholy, stricken and bloody fields, empty thrones and sacked cities were beheld!

INNOCENT III

But through all this misery the idea of Gregory was perseveringly pursued, till at last the mitre triumphed over the (Holy Roman) empire and Innocent III. (1198-1216) celebrated this great victory. Pontifical supremacy had reached its fullness. One man and one will governed the world. In stupefied awe we see that colossus, Innocent III, rearing up, all the mitres of the Church on his head, all the sceptres of the State in his hand. "In each of the three leading objects which Rome has pursued, independent sovereignty, supremacy over the Christian Church, control over the princes of the earth it was the fortune of this pontiff to conquer. "Rome then inspired all the terror of her ancient name; she was once more mistress of the world, and kings were her vassals." Innocent appointed all bishops and presided over all tribunals, from the mightiest to the humblest cause. He claimed all kingdoms as his fiefs, all monarchs as his vassals; and launched with unsparing hand the bolts of excommunication against all who withstood his pontifical will. Hildebrand's idea was now fully realized. The pontifical supremacy was beheld both in the fullness of spiritual and temporal power. But the noon of the Papacy was the midnight of the world.

THE CHURCH MY SPOUSE

Pope Innocent III. affirmed "that the pontifical authority so much exceeded the royal power as the sun doth the moon". As Jehovah said to his prophet Jeremiah: "See, I have set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down". Innocent boasted "The Church my spouse is not married to me without bringing me something. She hath given me a dowry of a price beyond all price, the plenitude of spiritual things, and the extent of things temporal, the greatness and abundance of both. She hath given me the mitre in token of things spiritual, the crown in token of the temporal; the mitre for the priesthood, and the crown for the kingdom; making me the lieutenant of him who hath written upon his vesture, and on his thigh, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. I enjoy alone the plenitude of power, that others may say of me, next to God, and out of his fullness have we received".

UNUM SANCTUM

Boniface VIII added in his bull Unum sanctum, "We declare define, pronounce it to be necessary to salvation for every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff". This subjection is declared in the bull to extend to all affairs. "One sword," says the Pope, "must be under another, and the temporal authority must be subject to the spiritual power; whence, if the earthly power go astray, it must be judged by the spiritual". Such are only a few of the "great words" heard to issue from the Vatican Mount, that new Sinai.

Such contrast between the first and the last estate of the pastors of the Roman Church is lamented by the poet Dante. Addressing Peter, he says:

"E'en thou went'st forth in poverty and hunger
To set the goodly plant that,
From the vine it once was,
Now is grown unsightly bramble".

Petrarch the poet amplifies the same theme:

"The fire of wrathful heaven alight,
And all thy harlot tresses smite,
Base city! Thou from humble fare,
Thy acorns and thy water, rose
To greatness, rich with others' woes".

There is something here out of the ordinary course. For of the 130 Popes between Boniface III. (606), who, in partnership with Phocas, laid the foundations of the Papal grandeur, and Gregory VII, who realized it, onward through another two centuries to Innocent III. (1216) and Boniface VIII. (1303), who at last put the top-stone upon it, not one lost an inch of ground which his predecessor had gained! There is nothing like it in the history of the world. This success was audaciously interpreted proof of the divinity of the Papacy. Behold, it has been said, when the throne of Caesar was overturned, how the chair of Peter stood erect! Is not (this proof that the Church of Rome is) the Church of which Christ said, "The gates of hell shall not prevail against it?"
Boasting of a supposed donation of the kingdom of Hungary to the Roman See by Stephen, a Romanist historian says, "It fell out by a wonderful providence of God, that at the very time when the Roman Church might appear ready to fall and perish, even then distant kings approach the Apostolic See, which they acknowledge and venerate as the only temple of the universe, the sanctuary of piety, the pillar of truth, the immovable rock. Behold, kings - not from the East, as of old they came to the cradle of Christ, but from the North - led by faith, they humbly approach the cottage of the fisher, the Church of Rome herself, offering not only gifts out of their treasures, but bringing even kingdoms to her, and asking kingdoms from her. Whoso is wise, and will record these things, even he shall understand the loving kindness of the Lord."

THE RUIN OF ALL SAVE HER OWN

But the apparent success of the Papacy when closely examined cannot be justly pronounced legitimate, or fairly won. Rome ever swims with the tide. The evils and passions of society, which a true benefactress would have made it her business to cure - at least, to alleviate - Rome has studied rather to foster into strength, that she might be borne to power on the foul current which she herself had created. Amid battles, bloodshed, and confusion, has her path lain. The edicts of subservient Councils, the forgeries of hireling priests, the arms of craven monarchs, and the thunderbolts of excommunication have never been wanting to open her path. Exploits won by weapons of this sort are what her historians delight to chronicle. These are the victories that constitute her glory! Yet another great deduction from the apparent grandeur of her success is the success the clergy. During her early career, the Roman Church rendered certain important services to society but when she grew to maturity all acknowledge that her principles implied the ruin of all interests save her own.

But the career of Rome, with all the fictitious brilliance that encompasses it, is utterly eclipsed when placed beside the silent and sublime progress of the Gospel. The latter we see winning its way over mighty obstacles solely by the force and sweetness of its own truth. It touches the deep wounds of society only to heal them. It speaks not to awaken but to hush the rough voice of strife and war. It enlightens, purifies, and blesses men wherever it comes, and it does all this so gently and unboastingly! Reviled, it reviles not again. For curses it returns blessings. It unsheathes no sword; it spills no blood. Cast into chains, its victories are as many as when free, and more glorious; dragged to the stake and burned, from the ashes of the martyr there start up a thousand confessors, to speed on its career and swell the glory of its triumph. Compared with this how different has been the career of Rome! - as different, in fact, as the thundercloud which comes onward, mantling the skies in gloom and scathing the earth with fiery bolts, is different from the morning descending from the mountain-tops, scattering around it the silvery light, and awakening at its presence songs of joy.

Roman Catholicism - The Conversion of Europe by Ian Paisley

The Eucharist is most likely the foundational teaching of Catholicism and it's main Biblical support is John 6:53, where Jesus said with witnesses present, eat my flesh and drink my blood, knowing full well this violated Leviticus law, resulting in death. Leviticus 7:27 Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people. Leviticus 17:10,11 Leviticus 17:14

Since in John 7:1, they sought to kill him, so what better way to bring a death penalty charge against Jesus, then by using his own words against him.
This was evident in Luke chapter 11, when Jesus rebuke the lawyers, they would use their verbal skills to trap him and waited for those words from Jesus that would condemn him. What Jesus said, with witnesses present, in John 6:53 would have certainty been sufficient to prove him a blasphemer and worthy of death.

In addition, in John 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy (Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 21:3); and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. In this verse the Jews accuse Jesus of blasphemy, but not a peep from the lawyers, scribes, or Pharisees concerning John 6;53. Why? Because of John 6:63, with witnesses.

The Jesuit Oath Exposed

"Go ye, then, into all the world and take possession of all lands in the name of the Pope. He who will not accept him as the Vicar of Jesus and his Vice-Regent on earth, let him be accursed and exterminated."
Professor Arthur Noble

[The following is the text of the Jesuit Extreme Oath of Induction as recorded in the Journals of the 62nd Congress, 3rd Session, of the United States Congressional Record (House Calendar No. 397, Report No. 1523, 15 February, 1913, pp. 3215-3216), from which it was subsequently torn out. The Oath is also quoted by Charles Didier in his book Subterranean Rome (New York, 1843), translated from the French original. Dr. Alberto Rivera, who escaped from the Jesuit Order in 1967, confirms that the induction ceremony and the text of the Jesuit Oath which he took were identical to what we have cited below. – A. N.]

When a Jesuit of the minor rank is to be elevated to command, he is conducted into the Chapel of the Convent of the Order, where there are only three others present, the principal or Superior standing in front of the altar. On either side stands a monk, one of whom holds a banner of yellow and white, which are the Papal colours, and the other a black banner with a dagger and red cross above a skull and crossbones, with the word INRI, and below them the words IUSTUM NECAR REGES IMPIUS. The meaning of which is: It is just to exterminate or annihilate impious or heretical Kings, Governments, or Rulers.

Upon the floor is a red cross at which the postulant or candidate kneels. The Superior hands him a small black crucifix, which he takes in his left hand and presses to his heart, and the Superior at the same time presents to him a dagger, which he grasps by the blade and holds the point against his heart, the Superior still holding it by the hilt, and thus addresses the postulant:

(The Superior speaks:)

My son, heretofore you have been taught to act the dissembler: among Roman Catholics to be a Roman Catholic, and to be a spy even among your own brethren; to believe no man, to trust no man. Among the Reformers, to be a Reformer; among the Huguenots, to be a Huguenot; among the Calvinists, to be a Calvinist; among other Protestants, generally to be a Protestant; and obtaining their confidence, to seek even to preach from their pulpits, and to denounce with all the vehemence in your nature our Holy Religion and the Pope; and even to descend so low as to become a Jew among Jews, that you might be enabled to gather together all information for the benefit of your Order as a faithful soldier of the Pope. You have been taught to plant insidiously the seeds of jealousy and hatred between communities, provinces, states that were at peace, and to incite them to deeds of blood, involving them in war with each other, and to create revolutions and civil wars in countries that were independent and prosperous, cultivating the arts and the sciences and enjoying the blessings of peace; to take sides with the combatants and to act secretly with your brother Jesuit, who might be engaged on the other side, but openly opposed to that with which you might be connected, only that the Church might be the gainer in the end, in the conditions fixed in the treaties for peace and that the end justifies the means. You have been taught your duty as a spy, to gather all statistics, facts and information in your power from every source; to ingratiate yourself into the confidence of the family circle of Protestants and heretics of every class and character, as well as that of the merchant, the banker, the lawyer, among the schools and universities, in parliaments and legislatures, and the judiciaries and councils of state, and to be all things to all men, for the Pope's sake, whose servants we are unto death. You have received all your instructions heretofore as a novice, a neophyte, and have served as co-adjurer, confessor and priest, but you have not yet been invested with all that is necessary to command in the Army of Loyola in the service of the Pope. You must serve the proper time as the instrument and executioner as directed by your superiors; for none can command here who has not consecrated his labours with the blood of the heretic; for "without the shedding of blood no man can be saved". Therefore, to fit yourself for your work and make your own salvation sure, you will, in addition to your former oath of obedience to your order and allegiance to the Pope, repeat after me:

(Text of the Oath:)
I_______________ , now in the presence of Almighty God, the blessed Virgin Mary, the blessed St. John the Baptist, the Holy Apostles, St. Peter and St. Paul, and all the saints, sacred host of Heaven, and to you, my Ghostly Father, the superior general of the Society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius Loyola, in the pontification of Paul the Third, and continued to the present, do by the womb of the Virgin, the matrix of God, and the rod of Jesus Christ, declare and swear that His Holiness, the Pope, is Christ's Vice-Regent and is the true and only head of the Catholic or Universal Church throughout the earth; and that by the virtue of the keys of binding and loosing given to His Holiness by my Saviour, Jesus Christ, he hath power to depose heretical Kings, Princes, States, Commonwealths, and Governments, and they may be safely destroyed. Therefore to the utmost of my power I will defend this doctrine and His Holiness's right and custom against all usurpers of the heretical or Protestant authority whatever, especially the Lutheran Church of Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, and the now pretended authority and Churches of England and Scotland, and the branches of same now established in Ireland and on the continent of America and elsewhere and all adherents in regard that they may be usurped and heretical, opposing the sacred Mother Church of Rome. I do now denounce and disown any allegiance as due to any heretical king, prince or State, named Protestant or Liberal, or obedience to any of their laws, magistrates or officers. I do further declare the doctrine of the Churches of England and Scotland of the Calvinists, Huguenots, and others of the name of Protestants or Masons to be damnable, and they themselves to be damned who will not forsake the same. I do further declare that I will help, assist, and advise all or any of His Holiness's agents, in any place where I should be, in Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Ireland or America, or in any other kingdom or territory I shall come to, and do my utmost to extirpate the heretical Protestant or Masonic doctrines and to destroy all their pretended powers, legal or otherwise. I do further promise and declare that, notwithstanding, I am dispensed with to assume any religion heretical for the propagation of the Mother Church's interest; to keep secret and private all her agents' counsels from time to time, as they entrust me, and not to divulge, directly or indirectly, by word, writing or circumstances whatever; but to execute all that should be proposed, given in charge, or discovered unto me by you, my Ghostly Father, or any of this sacred order. I do further promise and declare that I will have no opinion or will of my own or any mental reservation whatever, even as a corpse or cadaver (perinde ac cadaver), but will unhesitatingly obey each and every command that I may receive from my superiors in the militia of the Pope and of Jesus Christ. That I will go to any part of the world whithersoever I may be sent, to the frozen regions north, jungles of India, to the centres of civilisation of Europe, or to the wild haunts of the barbarous savages of America without murmuring or repining, and will be submissive in all things, whatsoever is communicated to me. I do further promise and declare that I will, when opportunity presents, make and wage relentless war, secretly and openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Masons, as I am directed to do, to extirpate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex nor condition, and that will hang, burn, waste, boil, flay, strangle, and bury alive these infamous heretics; rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women, and crush their infants' heads against the walls in order to annihilate their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly I will secretly use the poisonous cup, the strangulation cord, the steel of the poniard, or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honour, rank, dignity or authority of the persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agents of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Father of the Society of Jesus. In confirmation of which I hereby dedicate my life, soul, and all corporal powers, and with the dagger which I now receive I will subscribe my name written in my blood in testimony thereof; and should I prove false, or weaken in my determination, may my brethren and fellow soldiers of the militia of the Pope cut off my hands and feet and my throat from ear to ear, my belly be opened and sulphur burned therein with all the punishment that can be inflicted upon me on earth, and my soul shall be tortured by demons in eternal hell forever. That I will in voting always vote for a Knight of Columbus in preference to a Protestant, especially a Mason, and that I will leave my party so to do; that if two Catholics are on the ticket I will satisfy myself which is the better supporter of Mother Church and vote accordingly. That I will not deal with or employ a Protestant if in my power to deal with or employ a Catholic. That I will place Catholic girls in Protestant families that a weekly report may be made of the inner movements of the heretics. That I will provide myself with arms and ammunition that I may be in readiness when the word is passed, or I am commanded to defend the Church either as an individual or with the militia of the Pope. All of which I,_______________, do swear by the blessed Trinity and blessed sacrament which I am now to receive to perform and on part to keep this my oath. In testimony hereof, I take this most holy and blessed sacrament of the Eucharist and witness the same further with my name written with the point of this dagger dipped in my own blood and seal in the face of this holy sacrament.

(He receives the wafer from the Superior and writes his name with the point of his dagger dipped in his own blood taken from over his heart.)

(Superior speaks:)

You will now rise to your feet and I will instruct you in the Catechism necessary to make yourself known to any member of the Society of Jesus belonging to this rank. In the first place, you, as a Brother Jesuit, will with another mutually make the ordinary sign of the cross as any ordinary Roman Catholic would; then one crosses his wrists, the palms of his hands open, and the other in answer crosses his feet, one above the other; the first points with forefinger of the right hand to the centre of the palm of the left, the other with the forefinger of the left hand points to the centre of the palm of the right; the first then with his right hand makes a circle around his head, touching it; the other then with the forefinger of his left hand touches the left side of his body just below his heart; the first then with his right hand draws it across the throat of the other, and the latter then with a dagger down the stomach and abdomen of the first. The first then says Iustum; and the other answers Necar; the first Reges; the other answers Impious. The first will then present a small piece of paper folded in a peculiar manner, four times, which the other will cut longitudinally and on opening the name Jesu will be found written upon the head and arms of a cross three times. You will then give and receive with him the following questions and answers:

From whither do you come? Answer: The Holy faith.

Whom do you serve? Answer: The Holy Father at Rome, the Pope, and the Roman Catholic Church Universal throughout the world.

Who commands you? Answer: The Successor of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus or the Soldiers of Jesus Christ.

Who received you? Answer: A venerable man in white hair.

How? Answer: With a naked dagger, I kneeling upon the cross beneath the banners of the Pope and of our sacred order.

Did you take an oath? Answer: I did, to destroy heretics and their governments and rulers, and to spare neither age, nor sex, nor condition; to be as a corpse without any opinion or will of my own, but to implicitly obey my Superiors in all things without hesitation or murmuring.

Will you do that? Answer: I will.

How do you travel? Answer: In the bark of Peter the fisherman.

Whither do you travel? Answer: To the four quarters of the globe.

For what purpose? Answer: To obey the orders of my General and Superiors and execute the will of the Pope and faithfully fulfil the conditions of my oaths.

Go ye, then, into all the world and take possession of all lands in the name of the Pope. He who will not accept him as the Vicar of Jesus and his Vice-Regent on earth, let him be accursed and exterminated.

Ian Paisley retires from ministry

Paisley tells east Belfast congregation he intends to write his autobiography

Ian Paisley has retired from ministry in the fundamentalist Protestant church he founded 60 years ago.

The 85-year-old has stepped down from his role as a minister in the Free Presbyterian Church.

Paisley told the Martyrs Memorial Church he helped build in East Belfast of his decision on Sunday. He intends to devote his time to writing his autobiography.

The former first minister of Northern Ireland founded his breakaway church in 1951 after a split with the main Presbyterian church over its embrace of ecumenism and greater links with the Roman Catholic church.

Addressing his congregation at the church on the Ravenhill Road Paisley informed them of his intention to finally pen his memoirs.

"I will be telling some stories that will make some people laugh and others blush," he said.

For most of its six decades in existence Paisley was moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church. Despite being a relatively small denomination it wielded enormous political influence on rightwing unionist politics. During the years of the Troubles the Free Presbyterian Church became the Democratic Unionist party-at prayer.

Almost all the leading figures of the party, which Paisley founded in the early 1970s, were members of the church. The exception was his closest aide and confidant Peter Robinson, the current first minister, who was a member of the Independent Methodist church.

During his long tenure as head of the Free Presbyterians, Paisley embarked on several high-profile moral crusades, including an unsuccessful battle to oppose the legalisation of homosexuality in Northern Ireland. In response to Paisley's Save Ulster From Sodomy campaign the Northern Ireland Gay Rights Movement depicted the DUP leader as an "ayatollah" who was the enemy of individual freedom in Northern Ireland.

Free Presbyterians in the DUP also used their influence on councils to close parks and playgrounds on Sundays and even opposed a rock concert by ELO in a Ballymena leisure centre because it was being held on a Sunday.

Days of Deliverance Part 6: Deliverance After The Irish Massacre Of 1641

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr Clive Gillis

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chr. 7:14

The Anniversary of the Irish Rebellion of 23 October 1641 is day a of national deliverance now lost from our Protestant calendar.

Following the initial outrage, the Lord graciously delivered his people who would otherwise have faced a choice between complete annihilation or conversion to Roman Catholicism.

In the year 1662 the Irish Parliament legislated that the 23rd of October, the day the Rebellion came to light, “shall be kept and celebrated as a holy day in this kingdom for ever”. It was celebrated both in Ireland and on the mainland.

Like the anniversary of the discovery of the Gun Powder treason, the tradition continued well into the nineteenth century. It was marked by Church Services and public demonstrations.

What Irish children learn

A recent, illustrated booklet by Helen Litton, Irish Rebellions 1798-1916, would appeal to history teachers. It is of course written from the standpoint of Irish Nationalism. The booklet describes the Irish Rebellions of 1798, 1803, 1848, 1867 and of course 1916. The 1641 Rebellion is not covered. In 1966 the National gallery of Dublin held “Cuimhneachan - 1916 - A Commemorative Exhibition of the Irish Rebellion of 1916”. Pictures and exhibits illustrating Irish History from medieval times to 1916 were on view in chronological order. But according to the catalogue the siege of Kinsale 1601 lead straight on to the siege of Derry in 1688. There was nothing about the events of 1641.

Helen Litton refers to 1641 in her Preface as follows: “The Tudor system of plantations – that is “planting” Protestant settlers from Britain in confiscated areas of Ireland, - continued throughout the seventeenth century. Any kind of Rebellion simply provided the authorities with more excuses for confiscation, a sort of fig leaf to conceal greed. The tensions created by placing small groups of vulnerable settlers among large numbers of dispossessed natives often lead to brutal and despairing out breaks … One of these was the Rising of 1641 planned in Ulster by the dispossessed noble Gaelic families … This rising went down in Protestant mythology as an example of what (Roman) Catholics were capable of if they were not strictly controlled or preferably exterminated.”

This is what Irish children and students are being taught, while Protestants fail to defend their heritage.

Was the solemn commemoration of this Day of Deliverance a “fig leaf to conceal greed”? Was the glorious deliverance mere “Protestant mythology”? Are the Protestants charlatans? Let us try to discover what the Protestants who took part thought themselves. Let us see to what extent they cast the blame at the door of the Church of Rome. Let us hear what lessons they derived from their experiences to guide them in the future.

Ralph Lambert DD

Some of the Sermons Addresses preached on the 23rd October, thanking God for his delivering mercies in the events following the 1641 Rebellion, have survived. The sermon was preached by Ralph Lambert DD at the Parish Church of St James Westminster in what is now Piccadilly, London. This minister would appear to be the Bishop of Meath who is listed in the Gentleman’s Magazine Volume II p 631 as dying in February 1732. The sermon is addressed to the Protestants of Ireland, “In Commemoration of their Deliverance from the Barbarous Massacre committed by the Irish Papists in the year 1641”. It was preached on the 20th year following the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and concerned events that took place before nearly all those present were born.

St James Westminster

There was a large community of Irish Protestants in London, swelled by refugees from the events prior to the Williamite war. St James was a prestigious venue.

Christopher Wren, St James architect, wrote: “I can hardly think it practicable to make a single room so capacious, with pews and galleries, as to hold 2000 persons, and all to hear the service and see the preacher. I endeavoured to effect this in building the Parish church of St James’, Westminster …”.

On 23rd October 1708 Lambert’s sermon so moved both the stewards of the church and the “Noblemen and Gentlemen” present that besides being printed in Dublin for circulation in Ireland it was at their request reprinted in London to be circulated throughout the land through the bookshops.

Ralph Lambert’s text was Isaiah Chapter 59 verses 7 and 8. “Their feet run to evil, and they make hast to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting a destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgement in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall knot know peace”.

He begins, “The prophet seems in these words to have chiefly intended a description of some revolting and apostatising Jews, who forsaking the true worship of God have sunk into all the sins and corruptions of the idolatrous nations …”

God’s infinite mercy

He continues, “this prophetic description will fairly reach beyond its first design and describe the practices of all who entertain a False Religion … This day then my brethren, has this scripture been literally fulfilled in your ears; the influences of a false and idolatrous religion have filled that country to which most of us here do belong, with such a scene of blood and cruelty, wasting and destruction as hardly ever appeared in so many shapes of horror … It was owing to God’s infinite mercy alone that a small remnant escaped, whose posterity are now met, to praise the Lord for His goodness, and to continue the Remembrance of so great a Judgement and so miraculous a Deliverance to all generations”.

He then speaks of the purpose of this Day. “That we may never forget whose feet they were, that then, were so swift to shed the blood of so many and to remember that their thoughts of Iniquity are still full of the same designs of wasting and destruction should the Lord give us into their hands. They are strangers to the ways of peace and justice. Since Divine Providence has rescued us and our fathers from destruction, however smooth and fair they may carry it to us (behave towards us) now, while the Laws, the Sword and the Government are on our side, if we suffer ourselves to be hoodwinked or lulled asleep by their false insinuations we shall, perhaps too late, find that whosoever goes into their paths or measures shall never know peace”.

‘Bloodshed, Barbarity, wasting and destruction’

Lambert then announces his main points. “On the occasion of this solemn meeting I shall enlarge on these four particulars.

I. That a false and idolatrous religion does naturally produce Bloodshed Barbarity Wasting and Destruction. II. I shall describe the effects of it in a few instances of Cruelty committed in the dreadful massacre of this day. III. I shall prove the Doctrine and Practice of the Church of Rome do allow and justify such barbarous massacres and in particular they have justified and applauded that of this day. IV. I shall make some inferences from the whole which may be of good use to us in our present circumstances.”

From this long address let us draw that which these Protestants felt to strengthen and guide. Lambert’s first point illustrated at length form scripture the parallel between the outworking of the Religion of the people of the one true God in Israel and the contrast with the barbarism and human bloodthirstiness of neighbouring heathen nations. In his second point he describes the details of the massacre which even if overestimated in extent, by the details he supplies alone was frightful beyond measure in its qualities. These details were then still fresh in family lore. Such things are too terrible to repeat here.

His third point, the general persecuting tendency of Rome to provoke terrible massacres of her enemies is familiar to readers. However the details of Rome’s part in the 1641 Irish Rebellion have been suppressed and are hence less well known. They will be covered fully DV in the next article. Lambert states categorically that 1641 “was contrived and perpetrated in Obedience to the Church of Rome” and goes on to prove it. It had nothing to do with the “greed” of Protestants. Certainly their wealth creating industriousness, a universal feature of Protestantism, drew forth envy from the Romanists.

Is popery then the same?

Lambert’s fourth point looks to the future as he draws “inferences which may be of good use to us in our present circumstances”. He cautions, “that we may not be lead astray into their crooked paths, nor wander into those ways, wherein we shall never know peace”. He asks the burning question again: “Is Popery then the same thing at this Day that it was in Forty One? Or has it abated of its fury and violence and become mild and tractable? Has there been no blood drawn since for the advancement of the (Roman) catholic cause, and the extirpation of the Northern Heresy? Have so many hundred thousand people run away from their houses and livelihoods through panic and groundless fear? Or did many of us run away from our wits and dwellings at once but to travel? No! Certainly Popery is still the same.”

“Let them name but one place where Popery prevails and the Roman Church can exert its power and that place is free of persecution of those that differ with it and we shall own them a merciful people. And if Popery be not changed, how is it that we become every day less apprehensive of it? If we would secure ourselves and our posterity, we should not always expect that God will work miracles and raise up Deliverers. We ought to oppose as much as in us lies that spreading of enslaving principles …. (designed) to take away our senses and fit us for Transubstantiation. They (The Romanists) constantly lie in wait for us as we grow secure.

Fomenting divisions

“Another method in which the Papists have been fatally successful against us is by creating jealousies and fomenting divisions amongst us. Tis most melancholy to observe how unexpectedly prosperous (successful) they are in (using) this stale artifice against us. They formerly divided us from the dissenters. Now they invent a new and odious distinction of High and Low Church trying to divide us. We must show the distinction groundless. We ought also to treat the greater part of the Dissenters (It has to be said that sadly the Quakers though their doctrines and pacifist nature had drifted into a most unhealthy alliance with the Romanists) with confidence and affection as they are embarked on the same common cause against the Papists.

“Finally since God has delivered our ancestors from the horrid destruction designed on this day, and preserved us let us give to Him our true Tribute and Praise for this Great Mercy, with hearts truly sensible to so undeserved a blessing. Let us endeavour to convince our Popish adversaries of the Truth of our Religion, by showing in our lives and actions that its influence is stronger to operate all that is good in us …”.

Such was the sentiment of a Day of Deliverance from our glorious Protestant past now lost.

What is Ecumenism?

Critical to our understanding of what the New World Order really is, is our understanding of what Ecumenism really is. Read these two articles and you will be well on your way to understanding what the Ecumenical Movement is and how it relates directly to the New World Order.
