"Close Borders, Save Europe": Afroditi Latinopoulou’s Vision for Europe

"Close Borders, Save Europe": Afroditi Latinopoulou’s Vision for Europe

The Financial Express

Oct 13, 2026

At a political gathering in Italy, Greek politician Afroditi Latinopoulou delivers a forceful critique of the European Union, accusing Brussels’ institutions of undermining national sovereignty, traditional values and democratic accountability. Aligning herself with right-wing European figures including Matteo Salvini and Viktor Orbán, she calls for tighter borders, mass deportations and a rejection of policies she associates with the EU establishment. Her speech also attacks what she describes as excessive bureaucracy, state intervention and the political left, while emphasising the themes of nation, religion and family. Latinopoulou presents the debate as a struggle over who should shape Europe’s future: national governments and their citizens, or institutions based in Brussels. This report examines the arguments and political rhetoric behind her challenge to the European project.

Darializa Avila Chevalier, a democratic socialist overwhelmingly favored in the race for a House seat representing part of New York City, was arrested Thursday while protesting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations.

Avila Chevalier, who ousted longtime Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D) in a June primary, had been among hundreds of people who rallied outside the U.N. headquarters and blocked traffic with a coalition of pro-Palestinian groups.

“I refuse to allow a war criminal to roam the streets of our city unchallenged,” Avila Chevalier said in a statement. “I refuse to play host to a man who has overseen the slaughter or injury of more than 64,000 children in Gaza with American taxpayer dollars.”

Avila Chevalier ran for Congress in part on her past activism on the war in Gaza. She participated in the 2024 encampments at Columbia University, her alma mater, and was also arrested this spring at a protest asking Sens. Chuck Schumer (D) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D) to vote against selling weapons to Israel.

She said she decided to challenge Espaillat in part because of his slow response to the federal detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a constituent and Columbia University encampment organizer.

A spokeswoman for Avila Chevalier said police instructed demonstrators to disperse or risk potential arrest. She had not been released as of about 3:30 p.m.

Several other progressive Democratic nominees for the U.S. House, including Melat Kiros (Colorado), Chris Rabb (Pennsylvania), Adam Hamawy (New Jersey) and Brad Lander (New York), were also at the demonstration, her spokeswoman said. Comedian Caleb Hearon and actor Hannah Einbinder were also arrested.

Avila Chevalier is all but guaranteed to win her general election in the deep-blue 13th District in New York that backed Kamala Harris by nearly 60 percentage points.

Rick Santorum Full 2026 PA March for Life Speech

Rick Santorum Full 2026 PA March for Life Speech

Pennsylvania Family Council

Sep 22, 2026

Hear Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum's remarks at the 6th annual Pennsylvania March for Life!

Be Fearless. Be Courageous. Stand for Life.

Transcript lightly edited for clarity and readability.

Thank you, Michael. Thank you so much, and thank you to the Pennsylvania Family Institute and the March for Life. It's an honor to be here, but [most of all], I want to thank you.

Every time I get an opportunity to come and speak to the people of Pennsylvania, I just want to thank you. You may think, ‘Well, he’s thanking us for electing him to the Senate.’ Yes, but more importantly, thanking you for giving me the opportunity to experience something that changed my life. You notice when Mike talked, he said [I] was one of the great, fearless leaders in the United States Senate.

But I served two terms in the House before I became a United States Senator, and Mike didn't mention my fearless leadership there for a reason, because it wasn't. I was like most folks who are pro-life, which is the easy road, which is to vote pro-life and keep your mouth shut. To vote pro-life and never ever author a bill, never champion a cause.

What I found, out and most politicians know, is that if you just vote pro-life and don't really try to win, they're going to leave you alone. It's when you stick your head out of the foxhole that they come after you. And that's who I was until I came to the United States Senate thanks to you.

This is why they want to kill me. I spoke at Harvard about exposing fraud with a $500 camera — Minnesota daycare scams, California Medicaid fraud, death threats, and the law they nicknamed the Stop Nick Shirley Act. This is my story. From the source. No spin.

When vulgarity becomes ordinary: What the F-word says about us

By Mark Creech, Op-ed Contributor Tuesday, September 08, 2026

Why does seemingly everybody have to be using the F-word these days?

You hear it almost everywhere. It pours from television, movies, music, podcasts, social media, sporting events, workplaces, restaurants, and everyday conversations. People who would once have been embarrassed to say it in public now use it repeatedly, sometimes almost unconsciously.

The word is f@#k.

It is, in my estimation, the foulest and most vulgar word in the English language. Yet what was once considered almost unspeakable has become a conversational commonplace.

How did this happen?

The word itself is quite old. Its precise origin is uncertain, though etymologists generally link it to Germanic words associated with sexual intercourse or breeding. Despite popular legends, it did not originate as an acronym such as “Fornication Under Consent of the King.”

For centuries, however, the word remained socially taboo. Respectable writers, publishers, broadcasters, and ordinary people generally avoided it. Samuel Johnson omitted it from his famous dictionary, and from 1795 until 1965, the word did not appear in a single English-language dictionary.

That very restraint gave the word enormous rhetorical force.

Profanity of this degree certainly has its shock value. But when such obscenity is repeated constantly, something curious happens — eventually, it loses its ability to rattle us.

So, the F-word has undergone an extraordinary transformation in our time.

Speaker Mike Johnson: God Is Not Done With America After 250 Years | ADF Summit 2026

Alliance Defending Freedom

Jul 19, 2026

Mike Johnson is the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a Republican member of Congress serving Louisiana's Fourth District. ADF Summit 2026 was a gathering of leaders from many different spheres, including law, public policy, media, business, education, and Christian leadership. The inspiring annual event focuses on advancing the right to live and speak the truth for all people, while offering a compelling vision of freedom and human flourishing. This year’s event, which celebrated the historic 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, explored why our founders held certain truths to be self-evident and what we must do to reclaim the spirit of 1776 today. It was organized by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the world’s largest legal organization advancing every person’s God-given right to live and speak the truth.
