MEXICO IN CHAOS: Guadalajara Palace Set on Fire Over Brown Tap Water

Riot Watch

Oct 20, 2026  #Mexico #Guadalajara #MexicoProtests

Mexico in chaos: the doors of Guadalajara's 18th-century Government Palace set on fire, Molotov cocktails at the Jalisco state Congress, and riot police who this time barely stepped in. The fuse was not a cartel, it was brown, foul-smelling tap water in one of Mexico's biggest cities. What happened at Sunday's "mega march for water", what's in the water, the tear gas crackdown one week earlier, who the masked men were, and why the US Embassy is watching.

AS OF: Tuesday, Oct 20, 2026, 3:30 PM Central European time (9:30 AM ET / 7:30 AM in Guadalajara). Figures are provisional; this is a developing story.

From France to Albania, social unrest is setting Europe’s streets ablaze

Rising fuel costs, discontent with the state of schools, declining public services and a housing crisis are fueling an autumn of protests in Europe. Crowds have protested for weeks in major cities, with some demonstrations marked by arrests, looting, injuries and violence across France, Spain, Italy and Albania.

MADRID (AP) — Rising fuel costs, discontent with the state of schools, declining public services and a housing crisis are fueling an autumn of protests in Europe.

Crowds have protested for weeks in major cities, with some demonstrations marked by arrests, looting, injuries and violence across France, Italy and Albania. In Spain and Portugal, tent camps have sprung up to protest unaffordable housing.

Young Europeans are experiencing “a strong sense of uncertainty and a lack of control,” said María Silvestre, professor of sociology at the University of Deusto in Spain. “And when specific situations come together, a spark suddenly ignites that is capable of channeling that discontent and driving people into the streets.”

Cities have turned into battlefields as top EU economies, including France, Italy and Spain, approach pivotal elections, while far-right parties have made electoral gains in Germany and could do so elsewhere. It also comes as Europe faces a critical moment in its support for Ukraine, with President Donald Trump making overtures to President Vladimir Putin even as Russia is blamed for increasingly frequent arson attacks, cyberattacks and other acts of sabotage in NATO countries.

Right-wing politicians have seized on the chaos. While protests in France have appeared broad-based, Trump portrayed immigrants as responsible for the destruction, writing Monday on his Truth Social platform: “The migrants have taken over France. They must CLOSE THE BORDERS, FAST!”

Many of the protests have been fueled by frustrated young people. Other actors, including black-clad, masked agitators, have fomented violence, but French authorities and police have not blamed immigrants.

The Revolutionary Side of Paris | From Protest to Chaos

The Revolutionary Side of Paris | From Protest to Chaos

Slow Walk Journey

Oct 18, 2026  PARIS

Experience a very different side of Paris in this immersive walking documentary, following the events of October 17 and their aftermath on October 18.

The video alternates between scenes filmed during the demonstrations on October 17 and the streets of Paris the following day, revealing the contrast between the protest itself and what was left behind.

Please note that the October 17 and October 18 sequences were filmed in different locations across Paris and are edited together to show the contrast between the protest and its aftermath.

What begins with marches through the city gradually grows more tense : crowded streets, confrontations with police, fires and scenes of unrest. Between these moments, we return to Paris on October 18, where the consequences become increasingly visible, littered streets, damaged Vélib’ bikes and street furniture, burned shops, shattered storefronts and the remains of destroyed vehicles.

As the video progresses, the intensity rises, creating a cause-and-aftermath perspective on two very different days in the streets of Paris.

This is not a conventional Paris walking tour, but a street-level record of a city experiencing protest, tension, disorder and the morning after.

School Blockades Continue Across France as Protesters Are Called to the Bastille

Thursday October 15th, 2026

The Epoch Times, by Etienne Fauchaire: Blockades at high schools and universities continued across France on Oct. 7, a day before students and teachers were expected to return to the streets for another nationwide protest.

The Student Union called on high school and university students to resume blockades on the morning of Oct. 8 before “converging on Bastille” in Paris at 3 p.m., a call seen as a reference to the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, during the French Revolution.

Several education unions, including SNES-FSU, France’s largest secondary school teachers’ union, also called for strikes and demonstrations in support of the students.

The number of disrupted high schools fell significantly on Oct. 7. Classes were fully or partially suspended at 459 schools, compared with 891 the previous day, according to the Education Ministry, which described the movement as being in sharp decline.

The Oct. 8 demonstrations will mark the fourth nationwide day of action in a protest movement led largely by far-left student organizations and initially fueled by grievances over school conditions.

6. SOUNDBITE (French) Sophie Bordy, literature teacher: "The youth is extremely anxious. High school students are very anxious, mainly because of Parcoursup (France’s online platform for university admissions). Regarding all high school students in France, there is a lack of places in higher education, and the algorithms make it unclear why some of our students don't have a place in higher education even though they have excellent records, have passed the baccalaureate with honors, and therefore, we as teachers understand this movement."

9. Wide of high school students gathering on the street during protest in France and drivers passing by and honking in support
10. SOUNDBITE (French) Sophie Bordy, literature teacher:
"I think the French support the movement because, those who have children understand the anxieties that students, young people, experience regarding Parcoursup (France’s online platform for university admissions) and the future being offered to them. We are coming out of an extremely severe heatwave. Here, they took their exams in gyms, basements, on ping-pong tables. The public needs to know that we did not have the same study conditions; I am 50 years old. It has deteriorated significantly."

12. Close up of protest signs at the high school demonstration in France demanding justice and critiquing police presence. (French) 'Police Everywhere, Justice Nowhere'
13. Mid of protester holding a sign reading (French) 'To protest is a fundamental right'
14. SOUNDBITE (French) Sophie Bordy, literature teacher:
"In my opinion, the treatment by the State and police violence only make things worse. It seems quite urgent to me that the State considers having the minister meet with the young people and understand that their anxieties are real. And these are young adults, you know, they are 16, 17, 18 years old. They are future citizens. Some of them are even citizens already. They must be urgently received so that a genuine signal of appeasement is given by the government."
15. Wide of students gathering outside a high school in France during the protest
STORYLINE:
High school students built a barricade in front of  Voltaire High School in northeastern Paris on Friday, in a fifth day of protests in the French capital demanding more resources for education and denouncing pressure on students.

Voltaire High School is one of the 400 high schools that remained closed on Friday, but students nevertheless gathered in front of it. Students taking part in the protest cited staff shortages, deteriorating conditions in some schools, long school days and Parcoursup, France’s national online platform for university admissions.

Sophie Bordy, a literature teacher in Voltaire high school  says there are reasons for the students to be anxious and that parents and, more generally, the population have understanding.

Fall of Nations

Iran’s streets are filled, but not just with mourners. Beneath the surface of state-controlled narratives, a quiet revolution is brewing. Official statistics claim overwhelming religious devotion, yet independent surveys reveal a shocking disconnect. Why are young Iranians, especially women, openly defying laws like the hijab, challenging decades of enforced faith? This video uncovers the hidden struggle within the Islamic Republic, where the deepest threat isn't from abroad, but from a generation that has stopped believing in the very system built to rule them.

Leftist and liberal gun groups are seeing a rush of new members

Several niche, left-leaning gun advocacy groups said that since the killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis, they can hardly keep up with the surging demand for firearms training.

With President Donald Trump sending armed federal agents into communities around the country, even more once gun-shy liberals and leftists are considering getting armed. And while Americans tend to think of gun owners as leaning more Republican and male, already more women, gay people and people of color have taken up arms in recent years, particularly after 2020.

Weekend classes at L.A. Progressive Shooters are sold out through March. Registrations for permit-to-carry courses at Pink Pistols Twin Cities, which serves LGBTQ people in Minneapolis and St. Paul, are up from an average of five people per class to 25 — the group recently added seven more courses to accommodate increased interest, and those are filling up, too. To paraphrase a recent meme: The right is arguing for gun control, and the left is buying guns.

“In the past couple of days, there has been a shift,” Lara Smith, national spokesperson for the Liberal Gun Club, says. “This changed views on the left.”

Alex Pretti, a beloved ICU nurse who cared for ailing veterans and an outdoorsman who was concerned about the environment, was also, like one-third of Americans, a gun owner. He was carrying his lawfully owned weapon in a holster before federal agents disarmed him and then fatally shot him.

Jordan Levine, founder of the inclusive gun community A Better Way 2A, says his organization has seen an influx of gun groups and instructors asking to join its resource page in the last few weeks — Ready Rainbow in Chicago, Grassroots Defense in Iowa and Solidarity Defense in Sacramento are a few recent additions. “People are scared and angry and want to equalize the power imbalance that we’re seeing on the news, where you’ve got ICE steamrolling people with no recourse,” he adds.

Philip Smith, founder and president of the National African American Gun Association, says membership in his organization has grown since Trump’s second term began and since Pretti was killed. “People join when they’re scared,” Smith says. “People join when certain people get in office, because it scares them. People join when they see these shootings across the country, and it seems like it’s just madness starting to grow more and more.”

Dems urging troops to ‘disobey’ are playing a dangerous game

Disgusting: Democratic members of Congress are now actively encouraging troops to disobey their commanders.

That’s the clear thrust of the one-minute video released Tuesday featuring Sens. Elissa Slotkin (Mich) and Mark Kelly (Ariz.) warning “This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals . . . against American citizens.”

Other veterans now serving in the House chime in: “Our laws are clear: You can refuse illegal orders,” pronounce Reps. Chris Deluzio (Pa.), Maggie Goodlander (NH), Chrissy Houlahan (Pa.) and Rep. Jason Crow (Colo.).

Yes, they’re all emphasizing the duty to disobey illegal orders — but if they actually saw any real sign that the president or other high commander is issuing such orders, they’d be doing a lot more than just cutting an ad.

Indeed, they plainly don’t believe one word they’re saying, or they’d detail exactly what illegal orders Team Trump has issued.

All of them know that the modern US military takes great care to lay out what constitutes an illegal order; no one now in uniform has the least need for added instruction about it.

The real target audience is the Bluesky addicts and so on who’ll wallow in this propaganda porn — a fantasy that pretends President Donald Trump is an out-of-control dictator poised to sic the military on civilians in some sort of coup, and so panders to progressives’ desperate desire to see themselves as stalwart patriots resisting an outlaw regime.

It’s a disgrace that these veterans are milking their own service to rally partisan support (and raise funds down the line, no doubt) by insinuating that the sitting president is ordering service members to violate the Constitution.

Worse is the real and obvious danger that some in lower ranks could take this nonsense seriously, and think they have a duty to indulge in quiet acts of mutiny — disobeying legitimate orders because they foolishly trust a US senator to play it square with them.

That is: Two members of the Senate and four of the House are all but calling on soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen to defy legal orders — or, say, leak classified info or otherwise sabotage the chain of command.

Until now, we’ve respected Kelly and Slotkin; it’s appalling to see them sink so low.

This isn’t simply a cynical stunt; it’s a contemptible gambit that tiptoes to the edge of sedition. For shame.

Syria rebels met with bishops says nuncio

'They promised respect and reconciliation, now end sanctions'

The Vatican nuncio in Syria said Sunday that the Islamist rebels who have swept to power in Damascus ending Bashar al-Assad's brutal regime had met with local bishops pledging respect and reconciliation and this deserved to see an end to western sanctions on the country.

"The road is all uphill, those who promised that everyone will be respected, that a new Syria will be created," Cardinal Mario Zenari, apostolic nuncio to Damascus, told Vatican News.

"The rebels met with the bishops in Aleppo, assuring them that they will respect the various religious confessions and Christians, we hope that they will keep this promise and that we will move towards reconciliation and that Syria can also find a little prosperity.

"The hope is that the international community will also respond, perhaps by abolishing sanctions, because they are a burden that weighs heavily especially on the poor people.

I want to hope that the sanctions will be eliminated little by little".
