Churches Strike Blow to Trump Admin in Fight Over ICE Raids

A federal appeals court has allowed a coalition of religious organizations to pursue its challenge to the Trump administration’s decision to lift restrictions on immigration enforcement at houses of worship.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled 2-1 Tuesday that the religious organizations had sufficiently demonstrated standing at this stage of the case, reversing a lower court decision that found the threat of enforcement was not sufficiently imminent. U.S. Circuit Judge Florence Pan, a Biden appointee, joined by U.S. Circuit Judge Robert Wilkins, an Obama appointee, wrote the majority opinion. The case was sent back to U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich, a Trump appointee, to reconsider the request for a preliminary injunction. U.S. Circuit Judge Neomi Rao, a Trump appointee, dissented.

The ruling does not decide whether the administration’s policy is lawful, nor does it prohibit ICE from carrying out enforcement actions at churches.

What to Know About ICE Arrests at Churches and Schools

The legal disputes follow the administration’s elimination of protections that had generally discouraged immigration arrests and other enforcement activity at sensitive locations.

Religious organizations challenging the change say immigration enforcement in and around churches can deter some people from attending worship services and participating in ministries. The administration has argued that immigration officers should retain discretion to enforce federal law rather than be governed by categorical restrictions on particular locations.

Mamdani advisor’s secret Cuba diary exposes anti-US plot, luxe trip

By David Spector
Published Oct. 11, 2026, 5:13 a.m. ET

A friend and advisor to socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with the president of Cuba during a luxe trip to the communist nation — where they conspired to subvert US foreign policy, according to a since-deleted travel diary obtained by The Post.

Danny Valdez, who hosted a fundraiser for Mamdani’s mayoral campaign in 2025, traveled to Cuba with a delegation from the DSA International Committee from Oct. 22 to Oct. 26, 2023, according to the Nov. 9, 2023 blog post, entitled “The Cuba Diaries.”

The delegation met with President Miguel Diaz-Canel on the third day of the trip with the purpose of partnering to end the US embargo, in place since 1962, three years after Fidel Castro imposed a communist dictatorship on the island, he recalled.

DSA national co-chair Ashik Siddique and Valdez are seen posing in a group photo with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.Obtained by the NY Post

“It was genuinely a big accomplishment for our delegation that this meeting took place. It was a sign that the Cuban government took our organization seriously and saw us as potential partners in the work of ending the US blockade,” Valdez wrote.

During the meeting, the Cuban president whined about the US-imposed blockade.

“No other country has to operate under such conditions. Vietnam and China are not under blockade, and are able to develop their approach to socialism,” Diaz-Canel said, according to Valdez.

Modi Calls for Global Governance Reform as BRICS Adopts New Delhi Declaration

09/15/2026 // Edison Reed // 1K Views

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the changing world "cannot be steered by outdated institutions" on Saturday, according to remarks delivered at the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi. BRICS leaders adopted the New Delhi Declaration during the two-day gathering, which ran September 12-13 and was hosted at the Bharat Mandapam convention center, the report stated [1][2].

Modi called for reforms in representation, responsiveness and rule-making, and for a greater role for the Global South in international decision-making, according to his remarks [1]. The declaration backs reform of the UN and global financial institutions and condemns unilateral coercive measures that are contrary to international law, according to the document cited in coverage [2].

The summit marks 20 years since the first BRIC foreign ministers' meeting in September 2006 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to RT [3]. India holds the rotating BRICS chairship this year and is hosting the leaders' summit, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov said ahead of the event [4].

New Delhi Declaration Backs UN, Financial Institution Reforms

The New Delhi Declaration supports giving developing countries greater representation in global institutions and reaffirms the bloc's opposition to unilateral coercive measures that run counter to the UN Charter, according to the document cited in coverage [2]. Modi said "Reforms are essential in representation, responsiveness and rule-making," according to his remarks at the leaders' session [1]. Indian MP Sujeet Kumar told RT that BRICS seeks greater representation for developing nations and argues that the existing governance architecture no longer reflects economic and demographic realities [1].

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a pointed swipe at the existing global governance structure at the BRICS Summit, describing it as a “pyramid of privilege” and calling for it to be transformed into a “platform of partnership.” Modi said the Global South is at the forefront of global crises but remains at the back of decision-making, urging greater representation, responsiveness and participation in global rule-making.

US urges NATO allies to prepare in case Russia attacks

In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker said allies need to be ready, in case Russian President Vladimir Putin decides to attack.

Updated Sept. 2, 2026, 8:49 a.m. ET

BRUSSELS – Russian President Vladimir Putin may not be planning an imminent assault on NATO nations, but the United States says its military allies need to train and invest like he is, so they’re ready to fend off a sudden attack.

After leaked U.S. intelligence reportedly revealed that Russia could launch a limited assault, such as a land incursion or cyberattack, on a member country within the next few years, America’s allies have been on high alert.

The warning contradicted assessments that Putin would not attempt to draw NATO into a fight while he’s battling Ukraine – and came amid concerns about a U.S. weapons shortage, as the Trump administration wages war on Iran.

In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY at the military alliance’s headquarters in Brussels, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker declined to comment directly on the leaked intelligence, while stressing a need for allies to be vigilant in their defense spending and weapons production.

“You can't predict what Vladimir Putin's going to do or any adversary. All you can do is be prepared for it and deter and make it not worth their time to make that move,” Whitaker said. “And I think we are preparing every single day to prevent that from happening, and if it does happen, to be ready for it.

“We should know that our adversary invaded Ukraine, and so we should all be pretty clear-eyed,” Whitaker added.

Progressives, socialists to travel to PanAmerican summit to push back on Trump’s policies in region

U.S. lawmakers and candidates will gather in Uruguay to forge cross-border links, aiming to counter the Trump administration's “Donroe Doctrine” and promote an alternative foreign policy.

A group of progressive U.S. lawmakers and socialist candidates are set to attend the PanAmerican Congress in Uruguay later this month to “build a lasting coalition” of progressives to push back against the “right-wing forces” in the Western Hemisphere.

“We need to build a durable and lasting coalition of progressives that can take on the right-wing forces and answer them with the necessary call of the people,” Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a leading progressive in the House said in a statement.

Along with Jayapal, other progressive and Democratic Socialists are set to attend the conference, which will take place from Aug. 21-23.

Two Democratic Socialist candidates who won their primary elections earlier this year in New York City, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier, will make the journey to Montevideo, Uruguay, where it is being held. They will also be joined by Rep. Chuy Garcia, D-Ill., and New Jersey House candidate Adam Hamawy.

“We need a foreign policy built on international solidarity and cooperation — not imperialism, war and extraction,” Valdez told Politico Playbook. “The threats we face, from climate change to mass displacement to the rise of fascism, don’t stop at borders, and neither can our response.”

The PanAmerican Congress was founded in 2024 to bring “together progressive legislators from across North, Central, South America and the Caribbean” to cooperate across national boundaries and to push back against ascendant right-wing governments across Latin America.

Last week, Rep. Jayapal sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio outlining her opposition to the Trump administration’s “Donroe Doctrine,” a new spin on the historic Monroe Doctrine–a 19th century policy of the U.S. government that declared the Western Hemisphere off-limits to further European colonization.

Jayapal said that the Trump administration’s policies, which include collaborating with friendly Latin American governments to combat the drug trade, fight transnational crime, and reduce illegal immigration flows, are for partisan gain.

“Taken together, the interventions conducted under the banner of the ‘Donroe’ Doctrine appear to follow a partisan playbook: the endorsement of favored candidates, the placement of political allies, the weaponization of tariffs and sanctions, and, where those fail, the application of direct military force,” Jayapal and 10 other House colleagues wrote in the letter obtained by The Hill.

“These are tactics that destabilize our hemisphere and endanger our neighbors,” the lawmakers added.

The Unholy Alliance You Weren’t Supposed to Notice

Kelsey Reinhardt on August 12, 2026

Something unusual happened on October 8, 2023.

The morning after Hamas slaughtered 1,200 people in southern Israel, after women were raped, children were burned, and families were dragged into tunnels, demonstrators took to the streets and college campuses across the US, not in mourning, but in celebration.

Progressive activists marched alongside Islamist organizers. Transgender flags flew next to keffiyehs. Students at elite universities declared a sadistic massacre to be the opening act of a revolution.

It was, as one observer noted, Bolshevik demagoguery at its finest. The raped and murdered were recast as oppressors. The rapists and murderers became the oppressed.

What you were witnessing has a name.

Scholars and analysts call it “the red-green alliance”: a working coalition between the radical secular left and Islamist political movements. It is not a formal organization. It has no single headquarters. But it is real, it is growing, and its ambitions are not modest.

To understand it, you have to understand what holds it together: because on the surface, it makes no sense at all.

The radical left champions women’s autonomy, sexual liberation, and secular governance. Islamist political theology holds to the authority of Sharia, traditional gender roles, and the supremacy of religious law. These are not minor differences. They are irreconcilable visions of human life and social order.

And yet they march together. They fundraise together. They are reshaping Democratic primaries together.

What binds them is not a shared vision of the future. It is a shared enemy: the Judeo-Christian foundations of Western civilization, our natural law tradition, our ordered liberty and our understanding of the human person as made in the image of God and therefore possessed of an inherent dignity that no state can confer or revoke.

Both movements, in their activist forms, are united by what they oppose. And that opposition has proven sufficient to make them allies.

Iran looks to ramp up economic alliance with BRICS nations as war with U.S. drags on

Key Points

  • Iran is set to join the BRICS New Development Bank, the country’s central bank chief said Thursday.
  • Iran would have to move through the NDB’s accession process before it can become an official member country.
  • The war with the U.S. and Israel has further ramped up the pressure on the Iranian economy, with inflation surging, growth plummeting and its currency in freefall.

Iran is set to join the BRICS New Development Bank, the country’s central bank chief said Thursday, as Tehran seeks to shore up its economic alliances almost six months into its war with the U.S. and Israel.

The BRICS alliance was set up in 2006 by founding members Brazil, Russia, India and China, with South Africa joining in 2010.

It has since expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Indonesia, with various other nations — including Belarus, Cuba and Nigeria — joining as partner countries.

Iranian state media reported Thursday that Abdolnasser Hemmati, governor of the Central Bank of Iran, had announced Iran would soon become a member of the BRICS Bank. Hemmati is currently in India ahead of next month’s BRICS Summit, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

“We are seeking to establish bilateral and trilateral monetary cooperation with member states,” Hemmati said, per Tasnim’s report.

The NDB was established by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to help mobilize resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging markets and developing countries.

A spokesperson for the NDB told CNBC the bank cannot confirm information regarding Iran’s membership.

Churches respond to earthquake in Colombia with solidarity and accompaniment

World Council of Churches (WCC) member church, the Presbyterian Church of Colombia, and ecumenical organizations in Colombia are mobilizing in solidarity with communities affected by a powerful earthquake that struck the western and central parts of the country on 10 August.

According to preliminary figures, the 7.4-magnitude earthquake, with an epicentre near San José del Palmar in Chocó, has affected 16 departments. Authorities report over 110 deaths, hundreds of people injured, and over 1,000 homes damaged.

In a communiqué to ecumenical partners, the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Colombia expressed its solidarity and called for prayers for affected families and communities, as well as for those engaged in rescue and emergency response efforts. The church is monitoring the situation in areas where it has a presence and is coordinating with its Presbyteries to develop an organized and responsible response based on the needs identified locally.

"May the God of all consolation sustain those who today face fear, pain, or uncertainty, strengthen those who are serving in the midst of this emergency, and enable us, as a church, to walk together and be instruments of hope, solidarity, and service,” reads the message signed by Rev. Leonardo Vargas Delgado, moderator of the church, and Marwin Hurtado Echavarria, executive secretary.

“Christian fellowship becomes especially visible through prayer, closeness, service and solidarity.”

Community infrastructure, including schools, health centres, and community buildings, has also been affected, while damage to roads and bridges has disrupted connectivity in several areas.

The ACT Alliance Colombia Forum is likewise in close contact with local churches, partner organizations, and community networks to assess the impact of the earthquake and identify humanitarian needs.

The forum will assess how its members and the ACT Alliance’s response mechanisms can complement the national emergency response, according to available capacities and presence in affected territories.

Churches and ecumenical partners emphasize that any response will be locally led, needs-based, and grounded in dignity and human rights. Alongside humanitarian assistance, they will continue providing pastoral presence, psychosocial support, and accompaniment through existing church and community networks.

The churches call on the ecumenical family to remain attentive to official updates and coordinated opportunities to support affected communities.

A Romp through the Fauci Diaries: Fame Turns to Shame

A Romp through the Fauci Diaries: Fame Turns to Shame  What's in Them?

By Jeffrey A. Tucker August 3, 2026

Brownstone Journal

On the fifth anniversary of Brownstone Institute’s founding, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released the diaries of Anthony Fauci during the Covid years until his retirement. They were written on government computers with the assistance of aides, so in no way are they private. They belong to the public, though it’s my judgment that it was intended to be notes toward an autobiography.

Reading them carefully (1,100 pages but in book form it would be twice that long) took me almost a full week. It is a look inside the state/corporatist system possibly without precedent. It doesn’t provide the entire picture of events but it is remarkably candid, especially if you read and know the context outside of the diarist’s head.

The first spin on this book is partially correct: it’s an exercise in vanity. True. Vast amounts of the text consist of hagiographic tributes without a hint of the grave damage done to people’s lives by the lockdowns, closures, and censorship.

But there is much more here. It’s the story not only of the wreckage imposed on a nation and generation of kids; it’s also the story of the descent of a soul at every stage of decline: social climbing, fame, egomania, political machinations, megalomania, duplicity, self-deception, intensifying levels of malice, exhaustion using courtiers as salve, and ending in total defeat realized only inchoately.

Reading it is a remarkable experience. It’s obviously not well written but that is a strength, a bit like how the Blair Witch Project is scarier due to its low budget. It’s raw and painful, alarming and shocking, and ultimately speaks to much more than the life of the author. It’s really a window into systemic corruption of nearly all the commanding heights of society itself, and offers a devastating indictment of the ruling class in government, media, science, and industry.

Does Fauci catch on that the media was using him as much as he was using them; that is, that he inhabited a world of fakery? Maybe but he decides early on that it is his only choice. He has to keep it up, otherwise his whole world crumbles. He just kept going for one year, two years, then three.

This Icarus just kept flapping his wings without realizing that they were melting.

Welcome!

Faith in New Jersey (FINJ) is a multi-faith and multi-racial network of faith leaders and faith communities working together to advance a social and economic justice agenda at the local, state and federal level. Faith in New Jersey’s mission is to develop grassroots community leaders, analyze the policies that shape our communities, and mobilize faith voices and faith voters to effectively act on the prophetic call to build the Beloved Community.

Grounded in the various faith traditions of our participating congregations, as well as Dr. john a. powell’s landmark work on race and bias, we seek to widen the circle of human concern by putting people at the center of decisions that impact their lives. We believe that all communities, even those at the margins, can and must come together and act powerfully to transform the structures that shape their lives in order to create communities that reflect the dignity inherent in all of God’s children.

FINJ has been organizing statewide (as PICO New Jersey) since 2010 and changed our name in 2015 to better reflect our goal of building a powerful faith voice in New Jersey. We are affiliated with the Faith in Action Network (Formerly known as PICO National Network), which involves 45 federations with more than 1200 congregations in 21 states across the US in faith-based community organizing initiatives to reduce racial and economic disparities – making us one of the largest community-based efforts in the country.

As the only faith-based organizing institution in the State of New Jersey, FINJ has developed a model that leverages commonalities of faith to transcend political divides and effect positive change within a political environment with stated hostilities towards progressive issues. FINJ starts by building relationships with congregations and faith communities that reflect the diversity of the state, providing faith leaders and laypeople with the training and resources to form organizing teams who can rally their communities to action. For many, this represents the first time they have heard about these issues from a faith-based perspective, which is effective in creating buy-in from communities members outside of the traditional progressive base. Unlike other organizations doing similar work, FINJ goes beyond education to effectively mobilize and organize our constituents. This model has proven its effectiveness and is currently being replicated in other states.

FINJ’s model is effective in part due to a structure that allows it to reach diverse faith communities across the state. FINJ currently has four county regional chapters; Essex, Union, Middlesex, and Camden. Each region consists of clergy of different faiths, congregation members, community leaders, students, and partnership organizations that support and complement FINJ’s work. Segmenting our work by regions enables FINJ to organize communities and collectively advance statewide legislative agendas. All regional members participate in a leadership institute training and are ready to advocate for statewide issues, as well as more localized issues in their regions, creating collective power through regional diversity.

We also have congregations that are part of FINJ in counties outside of our regional chapters, as statewide partners. They work on our statewide and/or national issues. They may also be members of thier closest regional chapter where they gain training, build power, and strategize to build their regional chapter. We believe this method of growth builds a sustainable regional and statewide movement to build the Beloved Community we believe in; one of hope, justice, opportunity, and love.
