Vice President leads prayer after woman collapsed at Nebraska rally

Posted Oct 22, 2026 12:30 PM

North Platte, Neb. (AP) —Vice President JD Vance stopped his speech and led the audience in prayer after a person in the risers behind him appeared to collapse on Thursday.

As emergency workers responded during a rally in North Platte, Neb., Vance asked those “who are of the praying type” to join him in prayer. Vance, a Catholic, crossed himself and recited the Lord’s Prayer as some in the crowd folded their hands and joined him. Vance also asked his staff to send a doctor.

“Always in moments like this, I try to pray as the Lord taught us to pray,” Vance said.

After the prayer, Vance walked into the risers and knelt down as the person was being helped. He later returned to the podium to finish his remarks.

With the migrants – In search of peace

24 Jan 2025

By Pierre Bélanger, SJ

Jesuits and their partners in mission are present at the very heart of the world. They are sensitive to the challenges of our time. They reach out especially to those in need of support. They want to help create a better world for everyone.

This is what emerges from the 2025 edition of the yearbook published by the General Curia of the Society of Jesus: Jesuits 2025. More than 40 articles and 10 personal testimonies provide food for thought on two key issues facing our times: forced migration and the search for peace for so many peoples suffering from war and other divisions.

The cover is striking: Rohingya refugees persecuted in Burma had fled to Bangladesh. They were forced to take to the sea again, and have now landed in Indonesia in the hope of finding a welcoming home.

The section on support for migrants

• highlights many facets of the work of JRS, the Jesuit Refugee Service;
• presents several examples of the welcome given to migrants by groups linked to the Society of Jesus;
• helps to raise awareness of the challenges of internal migration, particularly in South Asia;
• introduces the testimonies of Jesuits and JRS team members who have themselves been refugees or stateless.

The section entitled ‘In search of peace’ helps us to reflect on the meaning of peace according to Sacred Scripture, on the implications of reconciliation between individuals and peoples, on the dangers posed to peace by capitalism and its pursuit of profit, and on what it means to pray for peace. It presents several peace initiatives with which Jesuits have been or are associated, in the Holy Land, in India and Pakistan, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Northern Ireland... But also projects that help people who are trapped in labyrinths of destructive tensions.

What a rich collection of articles! Above all, how rich is the commitment of the Society of Jesus to helping build societies where life will be better! Conspiracy Of Silence (The Franklin Scandal)

Uploaded on Nov 11, 2011

Conspiracy of Silence was a documentary about child trafficking in the U.S. that was to be shown in the United Kingdom, but it was suppressed by the Discovery Channel. However, a rough-cut of the documentary was leaked..this is the leaked version.

The book "The Franklin Scandal" by Nick Bryant deals with the same pedophile ring. The Franklin Scandal is the story of a nationwide pedophile ring that pandered children to a cabal of the rich and powerful. The ring's pimps were a pair of political powerbrokers who had access to the highest levels of our government. Nebraska legislators nearly exposed the ring in 1990, but its unveiling had the potential to produce seismic political aftershocks.The legislators' efforts resulted in rash of mysterious deaths and the overpowering corruption of federal and local law enforcement, including the FBI, Secret Service, and Justice Department, effecting an immaculate cover-up of the trafficking network.

Pastors: Homosexuality not a sin

Russ Jones - OneNewsNow - 7/16/2011 3:45:00 AM

A group of Omaha pastors has issued a proclamation that states homosexuality is not a sin.

More than 100 ordained Christian ministers have signed the proclamation, including leaders from Lutheran, Episcopalian, United Church of Christ, United Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.

David Bydalek is executive director of Family First, the family policy council for the state of Nebraska. He deems this effort troubling for many Nebraskans and contends the ministers involved are from liberal denominations that do not respect the orthodox biblical teaching on homosexuality.

"When they come out with this sort of statement, I think they really do not reflect the mainstream feeling in the state of Nebraska," Bydalek suggests. "When we passed our marriage amendment years ago, we had about 70 percent of those in Nebraska who opposed 'gay marriage.'"

But when Christians take a stand to support traditional biblical teaching on the issue, the Family First executive director laments that they are often perceived as "bigots" or "homophobes." He suggests, however, that the loving response to those trapped in homosexuality teaches that the lifestyle is indeed sinful, but that freedom can be found through Christ.

"It's going to be more difficult, the more these…activists [gain] inroads into our culture and the more common it becomes," Bydalek warns. "So we have a very difficult task ahead of us as those who stand for truth."

Meanwhile, creators of the proclamation argue the document displays full acceptance of lesbian, "gay," bisexual and transgender people.
