Ready Or Not?
Like so many of you, I’ve been watching the recent prophetic developments including the rapidly increasing influence and in-roads of the Papacy – truly one of the more impressive historic and prophetic developments of our time.
And yet, this should not come as a surprise to Seventh-day Adventists, who have long held that the Bible teaches a resurgence of this power, and that the world will “wonder after the beast…” (Revelation 13:3).
These developments have also provided striking reminders of the accuracy of what we’ve read about in the Spirit of Prophecy regarding end time events. It reminds me of hearing someone say a few years ago that the book Great Controversy, which has embarrassed some SDA’s, would prove to be so accurate that in the end, those same people would be embarrassed by their once lack of faith in it.
Well with the things we’re witnessing, we certainly see prophecy being fulfilled with striking accuracy.
But amidst all the discussion, the many comments from my fellow believers about the rising of the beast power and the reminders of her sins, I feel something is not being emphasized enough.
Lately, I find myself thinking more and more about the importance of practical godliness. I’m talking about real depth of character. In fact, let me be more honest – not just talking, but rather I find myself asking: “do I have it?” – The character of Christ?

Why We Left Our Country Home
Thursday, 21 January 2010 00:00
We have many fond memories of how God has worked in remarkable ways in our lives during our time in Malo. So many experiences were truly life changing. When we purchased our home in the spring of 2001, we took out a mortgage to do so. It was the only debt we had, but as time passed, we could see the disadvantage of debt of any kind. Also, after doing some research, we came to the conclusion that with increased market values since 2001, we could conceivably sell our home, pay off the mortgage, and have enough left over to start again and potentially remain debt free. Of course the most feasible way to avoid borrowing again would be to start over with raw land, and build a simple home emphasizing sustainability. Laura and I had already started recognizing the value of becoming less dependant on the bigger "system", and learning to truly live off the land, trusting in God's sustaining providence in nature. As time passed, I could see that starting again would also have another potential benefit - it would encourage those who are just now beginning this quest, and it could potentially provide instructive value as we would chronicle the process in our own experience, and share that with others.
Ultimately, we decided that God would have us sell, so we listed our place on www.forsalebyowner.com. That was several years ago. We decided not to advertise our home to our ministry mailing list to avoid hindering our message with the possible misconception of a conflict of interest. Of course we prayed that the Lord would send the right buyer, and I hoped that it would be someone who would appreciate the value of what we had worked hard to develop and the potential for use of the property in God's work in the coming days. Who better would that be than a Seventh-day Adventist with an understanding of end time events and the usefulness of country property for outreach and ministry. Almost a year ago, such a family contacted us. They were coming for a job interview and to check out the area. In June, they purchased our home and graciously invited us to spend the summer with them as they learned about the orchard and berries, irrigation system etc.. It was a real blessing, and Allison enjoyed the friendship of their children.
This fall we moved to a rental. It's a smaller home, situated on ten acres nestled in a little valley surrounded by mountains covered with pine and tamarack. There's a separate building on the property which has become the new Back to Enoch Ministries office. We'll be here through the spring, and maybe a bit longer as we look for a new place. Because this is temporary, the ministry address will remain the same - P.O. Box 281, Malo, WA 99150.
Do I still believe in the country living message? Absolutely. In fact, more now than ever before. I recently heard someone say that they thought it was too late to get out of the cities now. I couldn't disagree more. If we can start again now, so can you.

Thoughts on The Wilkerson Warning
On March 7, 2009 Pastor David Wilkerson, founder of World Challenge, Inc., issued a warning to everyone on his mailing list that "An earth-shattering calamity is about to happen. It is going to be so frightening, we are all going to tremble - even the godliest among us." Pastor Wilkerson went on to describe blazing fires and riots in "major cities all across America." His post closed with the solemn words, "I do not know when these things will come to pass, but I know it is not far off. I have unburdened my soul to you. Do with the message as you choose."
For Seventh-day Adventists these words sound familiar. We were warned long ago about calamities coming to the cities:
For Seventh-day Adventists these words sound familiar. We were warned long ago about calamities coming to the cities:
"I am bidden to declare the message that cities full of transgression, and sinful in the extreme, will be destroyed by earthquakes, by fire, by flood. All the world will be warned that there is a God who will display His authority as God. His unseen agencies will cause destruction, devastation, and death." Evangelism, 27
The troubling fact is that Seventh-day Adventists have not been at the forefront of warning the cities of what is coming to these great population centers. Those who do bring such a warning message about calamities coming to the cities are often labeled as "Alarmists" and discredited as trying to frighten people unnecessarily. Yet here is a pastor, not of our faith, who is, without apology, predicting catastrophic events focused on the cities. So when these calamities do fall, who will be remembered as the one who gave the warning? Who will people turn to as the one who knew it in advance? Could it be that many will conclude that since Pastor Wilkerson knew it was coming, perhaps he has the right answers about how to turn back these judgments? What will Pastor Wilkerson tell them? We can't know that for sure, but we were told long ago that in the face of calamities, men in the popular pulpits of the land would tell the people that the only way to turn back the wrath of God would be to honor Sunday:
"...So completely will men be deceived by him that they will declare that these calamities are the result of the desecration of the first day of the week. From the pulpits of the popular churches will be heard the statement that the world is being punished because Sunday is not honored as it should be. . . ." That I May Know Him, 355
If we think about what's at stake here - what we risk by our silence or fear of being viewed as alarmist, we can see the importance of taking up the task that was given us long ago -
"The inhabitants of the ungodly cities so soon to be visited by calamities have been cruelly neglected. The time is near when large cities will be swept away, and all should be warned of these coming judgments. But who is giving to the accomplishment of this work the wholehearted service that God requires?" Evangelism, 29
That's a question you and I must ask ourselves.
