A newly established nonprofit launched a crowdfunding effort to construct a papal tiara that will contain Catholic and American symbolism, with the plan to offer it to Pope Leo XIV as a gift from American Catholics for the first pontiff from the United States.

“Historically, the majority of papal tiaras are gifts, usually from the home diocese of the pope or from religious [communities] they may be affiliated with,” Isaac Smith, a convert to Catholicism and the founder of Amici Vaticani, told EWTN News.

Smith said he was motivated to launch the project to provide Leo with a papal tiara based on the desire for “us, as Americans, to continue that tradition.” He said the first American pope is “such a historical milestone” for Catholicism in the United States.

The history of papal crowns dates back to at least the eighth century with the word “tiara” first used in the 12th century. A second crown was added to the tiara in the 13th century to symbolize that the pope holds authority in both spiritual and temporal matters.

A showdown over Catholic statues on a public building in a Massachusetts city represents yet another fight in a national conversation about the separation of church and state.

Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch commissioned statues of St. Michael and St. Florian, the patron saints of police and firefighters, to adorn its new police headquarters. But more than a dozen residents are suing Koch, alleging that the city is violating religious neutrality as outlined in the state constitution.

A judge granted a preliminary injunction in mid-October, barring the statues from being installed as litigation continues.

Koch told The Patriot Ledger, part of the USA TODAY Network, that the city would be appealing the ruling.

"We chose the statues of Michael and Florian to honor Quincy’s first responders, not to promote any religion," Koch said. "These figures are recognized symbols of courage and sacrifice in police and fire communities across the world.”

 

5 "Sacred" Papal Symbols and Their Significance

In the Roman Catholic Church, the pope is the sucessor to St. Peter, who was given authority by Jesus to establish His church on Earth, according to the New Testament. The pope is the Bishop of Rome and the chief pastor of the Roman Catholic Church, which claims nearly 1.4 billion adherents worldwide.

The ancient office of the pope, also known as the Holy See, is rich in symbols and insignia. Here are some of the most visible and meaningful of the papal symbols.

1.

The Papal Tiara

Known as the papal tiara or the “Triple Crown,” this historic headdress is the most revered and sacred symbol of the papacy. In addition to appearing prominently on papal emblems and coats of arms, the tiara was also a physical crown worn by popes for more than 1,000 years.

The Latin name of the papal tiara is the triregnum or “triple reign.” It’s a cone-shaped headdress composed of three layers, giving the impression of an elaborate beehive adorned with gold and precious gems.

According to historians, the tiara didn’t always have three layers. The earliest versions, dating back to the fourth century, were inspired by a conical Greco-Roman headdress called a Phrygian cap, as well as a Byzantine hat known as a camelaucum.

The tiara got its first ringed “crown” in the 900s to represent the pope’s authority over the Papal States, large swaths of land in central Italy that included Rome. Even though they weren’t kings, popes in the Middle Ages enjoyed a certain level of earthly power, says Christopher Bellitto, a historian at Kean University.

The second crown debuted on the tiara of Pope Boniface VIII in 1298, who wanted to emphasize the spiritual dominion of the pope. A third crown was added a century later, perhaps to indicate the pope’s supreme spiritual and moral authority over earthly kings.

Over time, the papal tiara became more and more elaborate and bejeweled. Pope Julius II was crowned with a tiara in 1503 that was valued by a Milan jeweler at 200,000 ducats (each ducat was 3.5 grams of pure gold). Each new pope was crowned with a tiara at their coronation and wore it during special processions from St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

The physical tiara was removed as part of the pope’s official vestments as part of the Vatican II reforms of the 1960s.

“The last pope who had the tiara put on his head was Paul VI in 1963,” says Bellitto, author of 101 Questions & Answers on Popes and the Papacy. Paul VI’s stunning golden tiara is on display at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

As an emblem of the papacy, the tiara is depicted as three tiered crowns topped with an orb and a cross representing the dominion of Jesus over the world. The papal tiara figures prominently on the coat of arms of the Holy See.

German Christians debate whether conservative state’s new law honors or hijacks the core symbol of their faith.

“A clearly visible cross must be placed in the entrance area of every service building to serve as a reminder of the historical and cultural influence of Bavaria.”

So reads a controversial new law introduced in Germany’s second-most populous state.

Markus Söder, premier of Germany’s Christian Social Union party (CSU), was the driving force behind the new law, which went into effect on June 1 and has caused a schism between church and state leaders.

Söder called the ruling an “affirmation of our cultural and historical, as well as spiritual values.” He acknowledged the cross is “primarily a religious symbol,” but also said it is foundational to the secular German state.

The law is viewed by many as an effort to lock down conservative voters in the run-up to state elections this October. The CSU currently dominates the state’s legislature, but some of its core constituency has been lured toward the anti-immigration Alternative für Deutschland party (AfD) in light of more than 1 million refugees—most of them Muslims from the Middle East and North Africa—who have flooded into Germany over the last few years.

The decision, which was accepted in April and has now been implemented, is a key component in an attempt to bring voters back.

In Bavaria, where more than half of the population is Catholic and 1 in 5 are Protestants (while 4% are Muslim), the move to promulgate crosses in public spaces is popular. More than 56 percent of residents favor the decision, though only 29 percent of Germans nationwide do likewise, according to a poll for the Bild am Sonntag, Germany’s largest Sunday newspaper, and cited in the Independent.

Some of the greatest opposition within Bavaria has actually come from church leaders. The highest officials in both the Bavarian Catholic and Protestant churches came out against the law.

“If the cross is only seen as a cultural symbol, it has not been understood,” said the head of the Catholic German Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Reinhard Marx, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

One thing I have noticed is this flame symbol showing up in the logos of politicians and also in false Dominionist, globalist Christian ministries. It seems to be all over.

Is this symbol being so widely used as a nod to Lucifer as the "bringer of light"? Is this an advanced torch symbol now always with three tiers to the flame? Surely some use the symbol not knowing it's real meaning but have you noticed this one is growing more numerous? I believe the three lines or "flames" have meaning too. "Triple flames" appear in the occult. Even the Celts had a symbol that was three flames:

and then there is this:


"Tomoe (Mitsu tomoe, Futatsu tomoe, Tomoe-mon, Fire-wheel)

This symbol is ubiquitous on Buddhist and Shinto temples all over Japan. Its name is tomoe, meaning turning or circular, referring to the motion of the earth. The tomoe is related to the yin yang symbol, and has a similar meaning, representing the play of forces in the cosmos. Visually, the tomoe is made up of interlocked flames (or magatama) resembling tadpoles.

The most common tomoe emblem has three flames (triple, or ‘mitsu’ tomoe), but one, two, or four are not uncommon. A mitsu- tomoe reflects the threefold division of Shinto cosmology, and is said to represent the earth, the heavens, and humankind. It is often associated with the Shinto war deity Hachiman."Some will claim that the Holy Spirit is displayed as a tongue of fire, and that is all that these churches are doing, but I think there is something more insidious about this flame symbol especially the ones with three parts. This is connected to torch symbology as well.

The TORCH is a symbol used within the occult:

Notice how many of these are shaped like tear-drops or "6"s as well. They draw the flame a certain way on purpose.
