Vice President leads prayer after woman collapsed at Nebraska rally

Posted Oct 22, 2026 12:30 PM

North Platte, Neb. (AP) —Vice President JD Vance stopped his speech and led the audience in prayer after a person in the risers behind him appeared to collapse on Thursday.

As emergency workers responded during a rally in North Platte, Neb., Vance asked those “who are of the praying type” to join him in prayer. Vance, a Catholic, crossed himself and recited the Lord’s Prayer as some in the crowd folded their hands and joined him. Vance also asked his staff to send a doctor.

“Always in moments like this, I try to pray as the Lord taught us to pray,” Vance said.

After the prayer, Vance walked into the risers and knelt down as the person was being helped. He later returned to the podium to finish his remarks.

Gov. Andy Beshear invokes faith to defend veto of 'anti-trans' bill, slams JD Vance's Christianity

Kentucky’s Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear has suggested that opposition to taxpayer funding of trans procedures for minors that cause irreversible harm, such as infertility and impaired sexual function, is un-Christian.

In a wide-ranging interview with USA Today’s Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page to promote his new book, Go and Do Likewise, Beshear addressed whether he plans to run for president in 2028, and listed Democratic candidates up for election in November who he says offer an alternative for Christian voters who can’t get on board with Republicans and the Trump administration's agenda.

Touting his record of governing an overwhelmingly Republican state, Beshear recalled how he vetoed what he described as “the nastiest anti-trans bill that my state had ever seen,” and falsely claimed it would have eliminated “all medical coverage whatsoever to children” and take away parents’ rights in making healthcare decisions.

“I remember explaining because it’s how I authentically think and believe that if I believe all children are children of God, I shouldn’t want people picking on these kids,” he added.

Beshear made similar comments on “The View” earlier this year as he invoked the parable of the Good Samaritan to justify his position of supporting body mutilation for teens struggling with gender confusion or same-sex attraction.

Why is JD Vance talking about the Antichrist?

In a podcast episode, the vice president implied that the ‘End Times’ might be near

JD Vance said he might be bringing about the End Times, adding that he would not be “shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us.”

Vance was speaking on the Christian YouTube show The Bryce Crawford Podcast about his memoir, Communion, which covers his conversion to Catholicism from Protestantism.

Numerous Catholics online reacted to his statements with confusion and frustration, saying that the ideas about the apocalypse Vance voiced are not central parts of Catholicism. While Catholicism does discuss the idea of the Second Coming, a time in which Christians believe Jesus will return to Earth, the Catholic Church Catechism — the Vatican’s official statements and teachings about the fundamentals of the religion — says that “we are already at ‘the last hour’” ever since Jesus died; the Antichrist is mentioned only briefly as a “a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God,” not as a specific person who will come to the world.

The Antichrist and Armageddon, however, take center stage in many Evangelical churches, where these concepts often drive other extremist ideas, such as labeling politicians the Antichrist — at one point during the Obama administration, a poll found that one in four Americans thought the president might be the Antichrist — as well as Christian Zionism, an attempt to get all Jews to return to Jerusalem to hasten the apocalypse, when many believe Jews will be sent to Hell.

As one snarky Catholic commenter put it, Vance’s apocalypse-heavy discussion of his Catholicism sounded like “three evangelicals in a trench coat.”

It also sounded a lot like Peter Thiel, the billionaire Palantir founder and Vance’s mentor, donor and former employer. Thiel has a famed obsession with the Antichrist; earlier this year, several Catholic institutions distanced themselves from a series of lectures Thiel gave in Rome on the topic. Vance cited Thiel as an influence on his conversion in an essay about why he chose Catholicism, despite the fact that Thiel is not Catholic.

When Demanding Political Perfection Leads to Tyranny

 The Andrew Branca Show

Vice President JD Vance is widely perceived as the most likely candidate to be America’s 48th President, followed closely by the excellent Marco Rubio.  And certainly Vance presents many personal and professional qualities one would seek in a President of the United States, not least his patent love of nation.

The elephant in the room, of course, is that JD Vance is married to a woman, Usha, who although born in America is in many ways culturally Indian, including in her religious dietary practices.

This at a time in American history when we seem awash in tens of millions of Indian migrants who appear utterly resistant and disinterested in assimilating into our American culture, instead establishing their own ethnic enclaves, arguably engaging in predatory take-over of many American industries that were traditionally paths of upward mobility for American citizens, and to a large extent making America less America and more Indian—which would seem to be in neither the interests of America nor India.

This has led some prominent voices on the American political right, perhaps more accurately termed the nationalist right, meaning prioritizing the interests of the American nation over other interests, to proclaim that if JD Vance is the candidate they will decline to cast a vote in the 2028 Presidential elections on the grounds that they are not interested in voting for an American president with an “Indian” spouse.

JD Vance Just Pushed This Sunday Law Nobody Saw Coming

Nolte — Report: Trump Backs Vance over Rubio as 2028 Successor

24 Jul 20264,199

President Trump has a luxury problem on his hands: Does he choose Vice President JD Vance as his successor or Secretary of State Marco Rubio? Both are remarkably gifted politicians. Both are trusted and well-liked by Trump’s MAGA base. Both are more than capable of defeating whichever loser the Democrats sacrifice in 2028.

What to do?

What to do?

Well, for now at least, according to this report from MS Now, Trump sees Vance as his chosen and likely successor.

“For months, Trump treated Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as something like rival contestants, polling aides and donors on the two men and floating each as a possible heir without tipping his hand,” reads the report. “In recent weeks, that has stopped, according to five people familiar with the president’s running commentary on the race to succeed him in 2028.”

The apparent tipping point was Vance’s successful book tour, where he walked out of interviews smelling like a rose after parrying with the harridans on The View, with Bill Maher, Megyn Kelly, and various Fox News hosts.

Trump is also reportedly happy about Vance’s recent weight loss and his work leading the antifraud task force.

This paragraph, though, makes the most sense to me:

Whether Trump was ever really weighing Vance against Rubio is itself contested. Camps for both men have insisted that any rivalry between the two has been overblown and that Trump has historically enjoyed keeping potential successors competing for his favor rather than settling on one.

A good manager, and Trump is obviously one, knows how to create a productive (rather than toxic) climate of competition to get the best out of people.

And let’s not forget that Rubio has already stated and restated that if Vance chooses to run in 2028, he won’t challenge him.

Rubio is young enough (55) and talented enough to make an excellent vice president for Vance before running for president himself at a relatively young 65.

But let’s face it, both men are made of presidential timbre. Both are superbly gifted politicians. Both dwarf anyone currently huddled on the Democrat Party bench. Kamala? Gavin? Pete? AOC? Whatever.

The thing is that no matter whether it’s Rubio or Vance, Trump will still rule the MAGA roost. That might sound like a bad thing, but it’s not. He is the force that holds that base of support together, and that base is what has won two presidential elections — some people might say three.

Finally, Rubio and Vance seem to genuinely like one another. Granted, you never know about these things. After all, everyone said Barry Obama and Hillary Clinton liked one another when we all knew they didn’t. Still, the public has an instinct for these things, and JD and Marco both seem secure enough in who they are not to let political aspirations get in the way of a genuine and mutual respect. Besides, they can help one another reach those aspirations. Honestly, if they don’t allow pettiness and jealousy to sour their friendship, this could be remembered as one of history’s great and effective political partnerships.

V.P. JD Vance on Sunday Blue Laws

 AI Overview

Vice President J.D. Vance supports Sunday blue laws, arguing that the government should protect the Sabbath as a sacred day. In his book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, he advocates for legislation that restricts commercial activity so workers can rest, spend time with their families, and fulfill their religious obligations.

These traditional restrictions, sometimes called Sabbath laws or Sunday closing laws, were historically adopted to promote Christian worship by closing businesses or halting certain forms of retail. While most modern blue laws have been repealed, several states still maintain restrictions on Sunday commerce, such as limits on auto sales or alcohol availability. Vance's promotion of these policies centers on the idea that the state has a role in safeguarding societal morals and protecting time for church.

The young Catholic elite poised to take over MAGA

Source images: Getty© Source images: Getty

Story by Nate Weisberg

On a muggy Saturday evening in May, 30 young men and a few women, all Christian and mostly Catholic, filed into a 19th-century redbrick building on Capitol Hill, part of Hillsdale College’s Washington, D.C., campus. The occasion was the monthly meeting of the Cicero Society, a parliamentary debating club committed, according to its terse website, to “developing excellence, preserving the Western intellectual tradition, and forming young leaders” — which in Washington is usually code for conservative job placement.

Despite the oppressive humidity, tweed jackets were the outfit of choice. The young men carried themselves like people twice their age or perhaps from a different era. One even had a cane, though it was hard to tell whether this was an accessory or a necessity. The setting was equally fusty. The debate was held beneath a large painting of the signing of the Constitution. Nearby were relics from the days of the Founding Fathers: an original copy of Thomas Paine’s American Crisis No. 1, a first edition of The Federalist.

Some of the society’s formal members, several of whom are political appointees in the Trump administration, wore pins on their jackets depicting the society’s crest, a quill pen crossing a sword. Others, pinless, worked the room, hoping to make a good impression. Some would later give floor speeches responding to the evening’s resolution, the main route to being accepted as a full member. The few women present weren’t auditioning quite as strenuously, perhaps because they were less eager to be admitted to what is, in essence, a fraternity.

After cocktails, guests settled into their chairs. I was handed a laminated guide: no one to speak unless recognized by the chairman; members to refer to one another as “the gentleman” or “the lady”; approval and disapproval to be expressed through “pounding of feet and hisses,” which, the guide explained, promoted “a lively atmosphere.” The session then began with a recounting of the minutes of the previous month’s debate, “Did William F. Buckley Jr. Fail?” Buckley, the founder of National Review, is best understood here as a stand-in for the kind of overpolite, free-market conservatism the Ciceronians reject. The chairman recalled that a young man of Indian descent had earlier “confessed to the society that, in many ways, Buckley was the reason he was there.” (An internship at National Review brought him to the U.S. from Canada.)

The room hissed.

It would be easy, from this alone, to mistake Cicero for a bunch of nativist trolls. But the society is more interesting than its casual cruelties, which did not, in any case, seem to offend the Indian immigrant in question, who is one of the members. Founded in 2020 by Ivy League conservative Christians, Cicero once attracted a more mixed crowd. A woman involved with the society since its early years told me that, at its height in 2021, the gender ratio was more balanced. Then, she said, “the normal people left and the weirder people came.” Talk about Groypers and incels spooked the women. Late last year, the Harvard Crimson reported that a Harvard debate society called the John Adams Society, a feeder for Cicero, had stopped allowing women to participate altogether; Cicero has not gone that far, she told me, but some members would like it to. The rules hardened. “The people who really love Robert’s Rules started having a little too much fun,” she added. The group’s politics also shifted, becoming a magnet for young New Right devotees who felt history moving their way as Donald Trump returned to the White House. Some members, another woman involved with the society told me, are hoping for it to become a staffing network-in-waiting for a future J.D. Vance administration.

Air Force major arrested on Capitol steps during protest calling for Trump impeachment

A U.S. Air Force major was arrested Wednesday for protesting alone on House steps as he called for the immediate impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump.

Maj. Jason Watson was arrested by Capitol Police officers at approximately 1:15 p.m. local time for demonstrating on the House steps without a sitting member of Congress, Capitol Police told Military Times. Watson, an active-duty service member with a military career dating over 20 years, walked halfway up the steps of the House to its chained railing to hold a sign that read “Impeach Convict Remove.”

Watson was first escorted to the bottom of the steps by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who then left the area, causing the officers to arrest Watson under 22-1307 Crowding, Obstructing and Incommoding.

“When the Member of Congress left the area, our officers gave the man lawful orders to stop the illegal demonstration, or he would be arrested,” the spokesperson said. “The man refused our lawful orders.”

The spokesperson highlighted that there are other areas on the Capitol where demonstrating is allowed.

Watson stoically stood wearing his uniform on the steps for roughly one minute before officers first approached him. Another minute later, he was again approached by an officer, who spoke to him briefly and was nodded at by Watson, as shown in video footage posted by Removal Coalition founder Jessica Denson, who organized the demonstration.

Over a minute later, Watson was approached for a third time. But this time, he quietly and peacefully placed his sign down and was arrested by Capitol Police before being escorted off the steps by multiple officers as protesters chants of “Who do you serve? Who do you protect?” rang clear.

Vice President JD Vance has launched a fresh attack on the Vatican in a new book on his faith.

In his memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, Catholic convert Vance details his encounter with church officials in April last year.

In extracts published by The Washington Post, Vance wrote that the Vatican’s secretary of state Cardinal Pietro Parolin discussed the topic of migration with him during their meeting.

However, the vice president was not pleased with the tone of the conversation and described it as “unsettling.”

“Here I was, the most senior Catholic in the United States government, and the Vatican seemed unwilling to move its moral guidance past the point of trite platitudes,” Vance wrote.

Vance ‘looking forward to reading’ Pope Leo’s AI encyclical

by Kate Scanlon - OSV News May 20, 2026

WASHINGTON (OSV News) — Vice President JD Vance said May 19 during a press briefing at the White House that he is “looking forward to reading” Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming first encyclical, “Magnifica Humanitas,” addressing artificial intelligence.

“I think when the pope issues an encyclical on artificial intelligence, it’s going to have some influence,” Vance said in response to a question on the topic, adding, “I, of course, don’t know how much influence. I don’t know exactly what it’s going to say, but I think when the leader of the world’s largest Christian denomination speaks on an issue like that, it’s certainly going to have some influence.”

The title of the encyclical is Latin for “Magnificent Humanity,” and it will address artificial intelligence and human dignity, the Vatican has announced. It will be published May 25.

Vance said he is sure the encyclical will “contain a lot of insights, some of which I’ll probably agree with, some of which I may not, but I think that it’s going to be a very, very important document.”

In response to a related question on whether the government should create a new mandatory review process for new AI models, Vance argued that President Donald Trump “wants us to be pro-innovation” on AI.

“He wants us to win the AI race against all other countries in the world,” Vance said. “He recognizes that AI is going to be an important tool, not just for our economy, but for our military, and so he wants to ensure that we are winning that particular race. We also want to make sure that we’re protecting people, we’re protecting people’s data, we’re protecting people’s privacy.”

But Vance also acknowledged the technology “does have some downsides.”

“We’re trying to balance that safety against innovation, and we think that we’ve got the right balance here in the Trump administration, but something we’re going to have to keep on working on, because that’s just the nature of these technologies, is they certainly change,” he said.

Pope Leo has consistently expressed interest in the issue of artificial intelligence and the dignity of work since the first days of his pontificate, telling the College of Cardinals shortly after his election in May 2025 that he took his papal name partly in honor of Pope Leo XIII, whose landmark encyclical “Rerum Novarum” has shaped the Church’s social teaching for more than a century.

By Mary Rose

Vice President JD Vance spoke May 21 at a monthly gathering of Catholic lawmakers and congressional staffers on Capitol Hill, sharing details of his conversion to Catholicism and his thoughts on the role of faith in public life.

The event, called “Catholic Connections,” is hosted by House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., who holds the informal, off-the-record discussions to allow Catholic elected officials, aides, and others to connect over their shared faith.

Vance, a 2019 convert to Catholicism who previously identified as an atheist, shared his Christian testimony and discussed living a life of service to others, according to lawmakers who attended.

“It was an honor to have @VP JD Vance, the highest-ranking Catholic in U.S. government, at Catholic Connections this morning,” Emmer wrote in a post on X. “Thank you, Mr. Vice President, for joining us and sharing your story of faith, family, and public service.”

Rep. Bob Latta, R-Ohio, praised Vance for joining the group and noted that the vice president “shared his testimony, his faith, and the importance of living out our values through service to others.”

Rep. Michael Baumgartner, R-Wash., who had spoken at a previous session, said Vance’s remarks were “thoughtful and inspiring.”

Rep. French Hill, R-Ark., said it was “Wonderful to have the Vice President visit the U.S. Capitol and share his faith journey from atheism to conversion to the Roman Catholic faith.”

According to Emmer’s office, Catholic Connections is dedicated to “fostering a faith-based community among Catholics working on Capitol Hill.”

Pope declines invite to America’s 250th despite Vance's 'in-person' invite

Pope Leo XIV has officially dissed Catholic JD Vance’s formal invitation to the upcoming July 4th 250th festivities in the United States. Instead, the Pope, formerly of Chicago, will be celebrating that day “on the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa — a migrant gateway in the Mediterranean,” reports Christopher Hale, who chronicles the Vatican’s doings with his “Letters from Leo” reports.

“… [B]ack in May 2025, JD Vance personally invited Pope Leo to take part in the anniversary celebrations. Many assumed Trump and Vance would welcome the first American pope with open arms during this historic jubilee. But Pope Leo never accepted the offer,” reports Hale, adding that the rejection came days after the Vatican also rejected an invitation to President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace.”

Worse, the Vatican quietly confirmed the pope has no plans to visit the United States at all in 2026.

“Instead, on the very day of America’s 250th, [the pope] will kneel on a rocky outcrop closer to Tunisia than to Washington, bearing witness to those dying in desperate search of freedom,” said Hale. “The contrast could not be sharper. President Trump envisions F-35 flyovers and fireworks in the capital’s sky; Pope Leo will stand under the same sun on Lampedusa, greeting strangers at the door.”
