More Taxes for Struggling Economy? Senate passes Internet Tax

AIM Newswire — May 8, 2013

WASHINGTON – In an unsurprising move, the U.S. Senate voted to pass a bill for taxes for Internet purchasers. In a time of economic slowdown, is this what American consumers want to hear?

American consumers cannot shop for free online anymore and this has caused quite a buzz on Twitter and other social media platforms. The bill, officially named the Marketplace Fairness Act, is opposed by the prominent anti-tax group Americans for Tax Reform and the nonpartisan National Taxpayer’s Union.

The U.S. economy is struggling under Obama’s presidency, with low GDP almost stagnating in addition to rising payroll taxes. Some even worry that the U.S. economy will go back into recession.

The question is whether it can survive a House vote, where Republicans hold a majority. The House Republicans see it as a tax relief, but that did not stop a several Senate Republicans from voting for the tax.

The Republicans that voted for it were:
Lamar Alexander (TN)
Roy Blunt (MO)
John Boozman (AR)
Richard Burr (NC)
Dan Coats (IN)
Johnnie Cochran (MS)
Susan Collins (ME)
Bob Corker (TN)
Mike Enzi (WY)
Deb Fischer (NE)
Rob Portman (OH)
Lindsey Graham (SC)
John Hoeven (ND)
Johnny Isakson (GA)
Mike Johanns (NE)
John McCain (AZ)
Jeff Sessions (AL)
Richard Shelby (AL)
John Thune (SD)
Roger Wicker (MS)
