Jordan Peterson slams Pope Francis’ fixation on ‘climate change’: ‘He should be saving souls’
Saving souls is ‘how you save the planet, not by worshipping Gaia,’ Jordan Peterson said, criticizing ‘contemptible’ efforts to make the Church ‘more relevant’ since the ‘60s and Vatican II.

TORONTO (LifeSiteNews) — Prominent Canadian anti-woke psychologist Jordan Peterson blasted Pope Francis for neglecting the salvation of souls and focusing on “climate change” and criticized attempts to make the Catholic Church “relevant” since the 1960s and the Second Vatican Council.
On February 11, Peterson joined Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) reporter Colm Flynn to discuss a sundry of topics, including his wife Tammy’s miraculous recovery from cancer, the widespread loss of faith in the Catholic Church since the 1960s, and Pope Francis’ fixation on “climate change.”
“That’s not working. It’s shallow,” he said, slamming the “guitar and hippies” that proliferated in the Church following the ’60s and Vatican II.
Peterson explained that religion is “supposed to be an invitation to the great adventure of life.”
“What’s the great adventure of life?” he questioned.
“Pick up your cross and follow me,” Peterson responded, quoting Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew.
“That’s a h-ll of an invitation,” he admitted, “but that’s the invitation, and the Church lost faith in that.”
Peterson explained that efforts in the Catholic Church to make the Gospel message more “relevant” have clouded the Gospel’s true calling.
“As soon as you say that you need to be more relevant than that what you’re doing, technically it is putting something else above that,” he said.
“Well, that’s not going to work not if the original proposition was correct,” Peterson warned, adding, “and obviously the original proposition is correct.”
Peterson explained that just as “Christ faced and triumphed over death and hell,” each person must likewise triumph over death and hell in their own lives. According to Peterson, the Catholic Church is currently not challenging Her members to take the difficult path.
“The gateway to Paradise is barred by the cherubs who have swords that flame,” he said. “It means it’s hard to get into the club, man.”
“Anything that isn’t worthy gets cut and burned away,” he warned, adding, “well of course that’s hell.”
“There’s no sugar-coating that and that isn’t what people want anyways. Young people want an adventure,” Peterson said.
He stated that the desire for adventure is the reason that young people feel called to “save the planet” from “climate change,” which “Pope Francis seems to be on about constantly when you should be saving souls.”
“That’s how you save the planet, not by worshiping Gaia,” Peterson stated, referring to the pagan name for “Mother Earth.”
“I don’t see for the life of me what the Catholic Church has to do with the ‘climate crisis,'” he continued. “Just the formulation is wrong; the priority is wrong; you save the world one person at a time.”
“It lacks faith in its own mission,” he added.
While his wife Tammy is set to enter the Catholic Church this Easter, Peterson has yet to publicly affiliate himself with one specific religion but says he remains dedicated to searching for the truth.
However, he admitted that “there’s plenty of things the Catholic Church got right,” for which he has an “appreciation.”

Sunnyvale Seventh-day Adventists Stay Current With CHAUVET Professional

SUNNYVALE, CA – All churches serve a higher spiritual mission, and most houses of worship also strive to remain relevant to the people in their immediate communities. For the Sunnyvale Seventh-day Adventist Church, which is located less than a 15-minute drive from the world headquarters of Apple, Google, Intel, Cisco and a host of other Silicon Valley powerhouses, this commitment helped prompt a technological upgrade that included the installation of LED fixtures from CHAUVET Professional.
“Being located in Silicon Valley, the church serves people who are surrounded by technology every day,” said Matt Gordon of Legend Theatrical (Scotts Valley, CA), which managed the lighting and video upgrades of the remodeling project. “The new lighting system and other enhancements have given the church a more contemporary look, which connects to worshippers.”
Sunnyvale Seventh-day Adventist’s technical director Greg Richmond described the changes made to the church’s lighting system. “We had a few fixed, incandescent ‘hardware store’ style flood lights controlled by on/off relays,” he said. “Now we have much more energy-efficient, DMX-controlled multicolor LED lights, some of which have remote positioning and focus to allow spot lighting of features on the church platform that change with the season and during special events.”
Sunnyvale Seventh-day Adventist’s technical director Greg Richmond described the changes made to the church’s lighting system. “We had a few fixed, incandescent ‘hardware store’ style flood lights controlled by on/off relays,” he said. “Now we have much more energy-efficient, DMX-controlled multicolor LED lights, some of which have remote positioning and focus to allow spot lighting of features on the church platform that change with the season and during special events.”
The new lighting rig at the church includes 18 Ovation E-190WW LED ellipsoidal fixtures – eight with 19° lenses and 10 with 26° lenses — four Rogue R1 Spot 140-watt LED moving fixtures that are used to create special looks during services, 14 COLORado 2-Quad Zoom VW Tour par-style fixtures, 20 COLORdash Par-Hex 12 RGBAW+UV pars and four COLORado Batten 72 Tour washes. Richmond also used DMX LED strip lights to backlight a patterned metal screen and as wall wash along the 6 vertical columns at the back of the platform and in front of the church.
In addition to audio, video and lighting, the remodeling project features a reconfigured platform and screen walls, reupholstered pews, new carpeting, stonework and glass. Many of the new design elements in the church are tied together by the upgraded lighting system.
“The lighting not only illuminates the presenters, musicians and drama team members, but also the columns and stonewalls,” said Richmond. “The new stone veneer is three dimensional, so we’re able to create a nice pattern of shadows and color images when we uplight it with the COLORado Battens or hit it with side light from the COLORdash pars.”

Prior to the renovation, the church had one large screen in the center of its sanctuary that wound up distracting from the visual height of the area. Now the church has screens on either side of the sanctuary to draw the eyes of worshippers to the focal point of the services. The connection between worshippers and services is enhanced further by the flat even light field of the Ovation ellipsoidal fixtures, which are mounted on the ceiling at various points throughout the room.
Richmond also plans to take advantage of the Rogue R1 Spot’s two gobo wheels (one of which rotates and has 7 interchangeable gobos) and 16.5° beam angle to create custom looks for the church. “We’ll also be experimenting with various gobo messages and graphics,” he said. “Our goal is to use proper lighting in conjunction with the various styles of worship presentations and music to increase the impact of the Gospel messages being shared.”
Based on the aesthetic balance achieved with the new lighting system, this goal has been achieved in beautiful fashion.
