San Francisco Central SDA Church Vandalized With Slurs and Swastikas

No church-goer should arrive at their church on Sabbath morning to see swastikas and hate speech graffiti on the walls of their church. Unfortunately, this was the reality for congregants of Central Seventh-day Adventist Church on the Saturday morning of February 28.

Officers arrived at the church in San Francisco’s Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood at around 8:45 am. Reports were of swastikas, antisemitic language, and homophobic slurs written in fresh paint on the side of the church. The police estimated around $20,000 worth of damage to the church and city utilities located in the 2800 block of California Street. That same day, Sadat Mousa, 51, was arrested in connection with the crime.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Mousa was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism with a hate crime enhancement, terrorism for desecrating a cross on private property, and possession of graffiti instruments.

Mousa appears to have a history with law enforcement, including a prison sentence for making threats of violence to family members in a 2010 domestic violence case.

His bond was set at $100,000.”

Some were fearful that the outburst of hate speech might have been in response to heightened tensions regarding the recent Iran strikes. However, The church’s pastor, Mark Ferrell, does not believe it was influenced by the recent attacks by the U.S and Israel.

“Personally, I don’t think it was directed so much at the church,” Ferrell said Saturday night. “There’s a lot of high emotions right now in a lot of people. It’s not just what happened today in Iran.”

The police wrote in a statement:

“This kind of hateful act will never be tolerated in our city,” said SFPD Chief Derrick Lew. “We will do everything in our power to protect our communities and ensure justice is served in this case. I want to thank our officers who acted swiftly to make an arrest in this case.”

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Tensions in Minneapolis have reached a boiling point as new videos circulating online show Minneapolis protesters smashing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and FBI vehicles in the wake of a spate of shootings involving ICE agents.

The latest flashpoint comes just days after an ICE officer fatally shot 37‑year‑old Renee Nicole Good, sparking widespread outrage, and a subsequent Wednesday night (January 14) arrest operation in north Minneapolis ended with federal agents opening fire after officials say a suspect and others attacked an officer with a shovel.

In one clip, people rummage through broken windows, scattering documents, gear, and laptops across snowy streets. Another video shows protesters slashing tires and breaking windows.

In a separate clip, people surround and loot an ICE vehicle, and readable ICE operational details, including agent names, contacts, and protest‑response information, were visible and spoken aloud. A viral image also shows a graffiti‑covered, damaged ICE vehicle on a snowy street with onlookers nearby.

Minneapolis officials called for calm after a federal immigration officer shot a man. The city said on X that the man was hospitalized with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

“We understand there is anger,” the city tweeted. “We ask the public to remain calm.”

Vatican Calls on Israel to Safeguard Holy Sites

The Roman Catholic official in charge of the Vatican's properties in the Holy Land on Thursday urged Israel to safeguard Christian holy sites, following a number of vandalism attacks on churches and monasteries ahead of a visit by Pope Francis.

Vandals have recently scribbled anti-Arab and anti-Christian graffiti on several Christian holy sites and properties, including an attack this week on the Vatican's Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

Israel's Shin Bet internal security agency says it fears there could be similar attacks as the pope's visit approaches at the end of the month. He is scheduled to visit Jordan, the West Bank and Israel from May 24 to 26.

The "Custody of the Holy Land" issued a statement expressing concern about the attacks and said the uptick in violence appeared to be connected to the visit. It called on Israel to "work urgently against extremist elements" to ensure peace and safeguard Christian holy places.

In recent years, vandals believed to be Jewish extremists have attacked mosques, Christian holy sites, Arab properties and even Israeli military bases and vehicles in Israel and the West Bank to protest what they perceive to be the Israeli government's pro-Palestinian policies. The attacks are known as "price tag."

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Thursday that police had arrested a 25-year-old Jewish extremist who confessed to involvement in at least 10 vandalism attacks aimed at Arab targets.

Rosenfeld said police have "stepped up" patrols and surveillance across the country, and that thousands of police officers would be deployed during the pope's visit to ensure it goes smoothly.

Jewish extremists vandalize Christian village in Israel

TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Suspected Jewish extremists on Thursday slashed the tires of over 40 cars and sprayed racist graffiti in a predominantly Christian town in northern Israel, Israeli media reported.

The perpetrators sprayed "Only goyim should be evacuated from our land" on a wall in the village of Jish, a majority Maronite village of some 3,000 residents.

The attackers also slashed the tires of 40 cars.

Israeli police have opened an investigation into the incident, and labeled the incident a suspected "price tag" attack.

On Tuesday, Jewish extremists sprayed anti-Christian graffiti on the walls of a convent west of Jerusalem and damaged vehicles parked nearby.

Slogans including "Mary is a cow," "price tag" and "America (is) Nazi Germany" were sprayed in Hebrew on the walls of the Roman Catholic sanctuary.

Last July, two suspects were arrested in connection with the 2012 torching of the door of a Trappist monastery in Latrun, about six miles from the scene of the convent attack.

In the 2012 attack, the arsonists scrawled "Jesus is a monkey" on a nearby wall in an incident that shocked the religious and political establishment.

In Egypt, mob burns Adventist Church in Assiut

The burning of a Seventh-day Adventist Church in the city of Assiut during rioting last night was not part of a wider, organized political movement, local church officials said.



The Adventist Church in Assiut, Egypt, was burned by extremest attackers on August 14. Adventist Church officials stressed that the attack was not part of a wider political movement. The government has pledged to pay for the repairs of the extensive damage of many Christian churches in the region . [photos: Amgad Negah] 





The Assiut Adventist Church, located approximately 220 miles south of Cairo, was attacked by a mob and heavily damaged after it was set on fire. The pastor and his wife hid in their upstairs apartment and were not found by the attackers, who set the building on fire. The pastor and his wife were rescued from the burning building by Muslim neighbors.

“This was a small group of people bent on doing harm. This event was not representative of Egypt or the people of Egypt,” said Llewellyn R. Edwards, president the Adventist Church’s Egypt-Sudan Field, based in Heliopolis.

“As Adventists we want our relationships to be strong with Egyptians of all faiths in the country,” Edwards said.

Muslim neighbors rescuing the Adventist couple shows “the true picture of most people in Egypt,” Edwards said.



Edwards said the government has announced it will pay for the rebuilding of all churches destroyed last night during rioting in several cities.

Several other Christian churches were also attacked in Assuit, as well as the shop of the Egypt Bible Society, Edwards said.

The Adventist Church operates two schools in Egypt – Nile Union Academy northeast of Cairo, and Zeitoun Adventist School. Both institutions have positive relationships with their communities, Edwards said.

Satanic graffiti found on Gastonia church

GASTONIA, N.C. -- Vandals strike a Gastonia church spray painting hateful words and images. This happened the same week that children are at Covenant Baptist Church for vacation bible school.

"Can't understand why anybody would do something like this? How much did they accomplish," questioned Pastor Olin Byrum.

A blanket covers up the graffiti in the back of Covenant Baptist Church in Gastonia. Vandals wrote an expletive word and then God plus an upside down cross. Pastor Olin Byrum says it's very disheartening.

"We're trying to reach out to people, share Christ with others, and now we have to spend time doing things like that," said Byrum.

It's spray painted on the back of the church where the kids play on the playground. All this week they've had vacation bible school for the children.

"Fortunately they haven't been back here, so, and hadn't even wanted to come back here, so I guess that's good for us; we've kept them busy.”

The church has already tried twice to clean the graffiti off with no luck so far. Pastor Byrum says he just wants the people responsible to come forward, take responsibility and they are forgiven.

"I just can't understand why you'd do something like that, of course there's no hate, God loves them, we love them hopefully they'll repent and see the error of their ways," Byrum expressed.

Vacation Bible school continues Friday, meanwhile they say they believe they'll have to sandblast the wall to get the graffiti off.

So far no arrests have been made in the case.
