DeVon Franklin lands deal with CBS; plans to 'create new opportunities' for Christians, people of color

Christian author and filmmaker DeVon Franklin announced that he's struck a deal with CBS where he plans to “create new opportunities for people of faith and people of color.”

Franklin, president and CEO of the Franklin Entertainment production company, made the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday.

“Thanks for all the thanks and congrats! I’m beyond excited to expand into TV with CBS Studios!” he wrote. “I’m excited to create new opportunities for people of faith and people of color! I believe entertainment is one of the most powerful mediums in the world and we can use it to help shape hearts and minds for the better. Now when you see the announcement of a deal, it’s the beginning of something, not the end. So now the real works begins, so please keep your prayers going up (I need them!) and I commit to doing my best to bring you the best shows I possibly can!”

Though the CBS deal marks Franklin’s first foray into television, his production company also has a multi-year first-look film deal with Paramount Pictures and a second-look deal with Netflix, according to Deadline.

Married Christian couples will be the focus of a new OWN docu-series called "Black Love."

The series will explore five celebrity marriages with the goal of answering the age old question: "What is the secret to making a marriage work?"

The couples who will appear on the OWN series include Oscar winner Viola Davis and Julius Tennon; Hollywood power couple Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin; NAACP Image Award-winner Tia Mowry-Hardrict and actor Cory Hardrict; NAACP Image Award-nominee Flex Alexander and Grammy-nominated recording artist Shanice; gospel singer Erica Campbell and music producer Warryn Campbell; and NAACP Image Award nominee Vanessa Bell Calloway and Dr. Anthony Calloway.

The series which debuts on Aug. 29 was created by Codie and Tommy Oliver, husband-and-wife filmmakers who are known for films like "1982."

"Husband-and-wife filmmakers Codie and Tommy Oliver present real, honest, emotional and sometimes cringeworthy love stories from some of the most successful people in business and entertainment as well as everyday couples," according to OWN's description of the series.

Many of the Christian couples who will be featured on the show have spoken about their God-centered unions in the past. One of those people is Viola Davis who previously revealed that she prayed for her husband.

"I asked for a husband who was emotionally available, someone who was older, someone who maybe had a family before," Davis told Essence magazine during an interview in 2013. "I like older men. Someone from the South. Someone who loves God more than he loves himself."

Franklin and Good previously wrote a book about dating, celebacy, and marriage in their book, The Wait: A Powerful Practice for Finding the Love of Your Life and the Life You Love. In an interview with The Christian Post the Hollywood power couple spoke about how they want their God-centered relationship to be an example and guide other people in love.

DeVon Franklin Talks New Company; 'Heaven is For Real' Producer Aims to Touch Lives at Box Office

DeVon Franklin, a Hollywood executive and Seventh-day Adventist minister, is launching his own production company called Franklin Entertainment and is speaking about how it will contribute to the world of film.

Franklin, the 36-year-old husband of popular Christian actress Meagan Good, is no stranger to the Hollywood scene where he formerly served as senior vice president of production for Columbia Pictures. Now, with his Franklin Entertainment production company, the preacher is working with Sony to change people's lives one film at a time.

"It's about finding great content with mass appeal that still has an uplifting quality about it," Franklin recently told Millennial Magazine. "I want people's hearts to be touched, their lives to be touched, and I want the evidence of that to show up at the box office."

Franklin is no stranger to box office success with films like "Heaven Is for Real," "The Karate Kid" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" under his belt. Doug Belgrad, the president of Columbia Pictures previously spoke about why he believes Franklin's production company will work in both film and television.

"This is a plan tailor-made for DeVon's specific skill set and interests," Belgrad previously told Variety. "It's clear that his ambition was to get closer to the product and maintain his speaking and writing career."

By being focused on the faith-based and urban community markets, he is able to remain unphased by any outside distractions.

"You can't worry about external forces, you have to focus on – this is what I'm here to do, this is what motivates me, this is how I'm called to live," Franklin told Millennial Magazine.

Franklin previously explained how he is able to merge his Christian faith and career.

"The more I started embracing the ministry side, the more it actually added to my career in Hollywood," Franklin told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year. "Knowing what challenges people are facing and then working on movies that can address those real-life issues gave me a path in this business."

Preacher's Wife Meagan Good Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction in See-Through Outfit

Megan Good gave the press an eyeful at the GQ Man of the Year Awards.

Meagan Good left little to the imagination when she suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the GQ Men of the Year annual bash.

The 29-year-old Hollywood actress, who married DeVon Franklin, a TV/movie executive and Seventh Day Adventist preacher in 2012, accidently flashed too much flesh while she posed on the red carpet.

Photographers got more than an eyeful when flashbulbs revealed that her sleek black mini dress was far from conservative and that she had gone braless to the glitzy event.

Images of Think Like A Man star's wardrobe malfunction posted online quickly provoked a major discussion within the Christian community with some claiming Good was dressed inappropriately as a preacher's wife.

"When the mentors are dressing like this?What should the Mentee wear....or probably go naked." One unimpressed viewer said.

"She's young. Let her be. She's growing, she will live and learn as everyone else does. Remember God does not judge the outward appearance it is what is in the heart that matters. Remember the parable of the cup."

Earlier this year Good face criticised for wearing a nipple-revealing, skin-tight, long-sleeved gown which hugged her curves and also featured a thigh-length slit for the 2013 BET Awards.

She defended controversial choice of outfit choice of outfit and claimed that Christians are often too quick to judge others saying: "It just makes me sad that us as Christians can't see beyond our initial reaction and don't seek God before the attack other brothers and sisters [sic].

"I merely picked a dress I saw and loved... God knows my heart and that I didn't do anything wrong."
