The DSA Wants to Abolish America

We should, in fact, be ‘scared’ by Megan Romer and her ilk.

I understand that it is considered déclassé to participate in what the self-consciously serious among us have termed the new “Red Scare.” Well, okay then: déclassé it is. There is virtue in calling things by their names, and the appropriate name for the Democratic Socialists of America is “red.” They are communists. They are Jacobins. They are wreckers and despoilers and iconoclasts, who, if left unchecked, would wipe the United States from the face of this earth. To be “scared” by such figures is not only rational, it is imperative.

Asked on television by Fox News host Shannon Bream to give a thumbs up or thumbs down to each of our civilizational building blocks, the co-chair of the DSA, Megan Romer, casually dismissed each in turn:

It’s turned into an efficient assembly line. Right before the checkpoint, a welcome center staffed by volunteers. They offer food, shelter, legal representation, and transportation. When ready, they’re taken to a point of entry. The checkpoint of course being completely swamped, prints off ticket #46,992,137 for their court date 37 years from today. They walk across the border, and into the very next building - another welcome center. Next stop: Nashville, San Diego, Richmond. Wherever they want. There’s (There ARE) offices like this in all 50 states, and you fund them. Not just through taxes, but also your Sunday offerings.

Because these aren’t government offices, they're churches.

The invasion at the southern border has developed into an untenable situation. Last year, the state of Texas became a minority White state for the first time in its history. By the end of this year, 10% of the population of the entire country will be illegal.

As tensions flare between state and federal governments with natives seeking to exert control over the situation, people are evidently starting to have enough. They see the impact free access to the country's wealth has on housing, competitive wages, and social cohesion. Someone is to blame for this, someone has to be held accountable and begin to mitigate for the damages.

This period of global migration is the largest in human history, so there is plenty of blame to dish out. Chief among the responsible is our governments, who are more than capable of turning any border into Passchendaele overnight, but refuse to do anything approaching this. Indeed, there are a number of secular NGOs and international institutions which have played a heavy hand. Interestingly, however, the single largest and most responsible operation has gone largely unblamed: simple, good-hearted, Christian charity.

In terms of individuals assisted in settling into the US, Christian churches make up the lion’s share with millions of migrants a year brought into the US through their networks on record. The Catholic Church alone is the largest (and possibly oldest) immigrant trafficking organization in history, and they claim this proudly. They have deep roots within the Western political system, including the International Catholic Migration Commission in Brussels, which has advocated for migrants directly to EU officials and European states since the end of WW2.

‘Climate of Fear’: Church Leaders Slam Mass Deportations

Archbishop Paul Coakley of Oklahoma City said the Trump administration’s mass deportation plans are creating fear and uncertainty in immigrant communities.

Supporters of the administration argue that stepped-up enforcement is a lawful response to years of inconsistent immigration policy and is aimed at restoring deterrence. They say it’s crucial to restore border control and credibility to the legal immigration system, not targeting communities indiscriminately.

Coakley said, “It’s instilling, as I said, fear in a rather widespread manner. So I think that’s something that concerns us all, that people have a right to live in security and without fear of random deportations. Be generous in welcoming immigrants. We certainly have a right and a duty to respect borders of our nation.”

He urged officials to welcome immigrants with generosity while also respecting the nation’s borders.

Coakley said immigration policy must uphold human dignity and criticized indiscriminate deportations and the vilification of migrants.

The Bishops’ statement said, “We are disturbed when we see among our people a climate of fear and anxiety around questions of profiling and immigration enforcement. We are saddened by the state of contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants. We are concerned about the conditions in detention centers and the lack of access to pastoral care.”

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement, endorsed by Pope Leo XIV and Bishop Ronald Hicks, that condemned the raids and raised concerns about detention conditions and limited pastoral care.

Pope Leo XIV said, “I think we have to look for ways of treating people humanely, treating people with the dignity that they have. If people are in the United States illegally, there are ways to treat that. There are courts, there’s a system of justice.”

Pope Leo XIV blasted the new arms race and the failure to address the climate crisis and social inequality in his message for the Catholic Church's World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR).
"The current global context is sadly marked by wars, violence, injustice and extreme weather events, which force millions of people to leave their homelands in search of refuge elsewhere," Leo said in the message, which the Vatican released on Friday before this year's WDMR on October 4-5.
"The widespread tendency to look after the interests of limited communities poses a serious threat to the sharing of responsibility, multilateral cooperation, the pursuit of the common good and global solidarity for the benefit of our entire human family.

"The prospect of a renewed arms race and the development of new armaments, including nuclear weapons, the lack of consideration for the harmful effects of the ongoing climate crisis, and the impact of profound economic inequalities make the challenges of the present and the future increasingly demanding.

"Faced with frightening scenarios and the possibility of global devastation, it is important that there be a growing desire in people's hearts for a future of peace and of respect for the dignity of all".
The pope said that migrants and refugees "stand as messengers of hope" in a world darkened by war and injustice.

"Their courage and tenacity bear heroic testimony to a faith that sees beyond what our eyes can see and gives them the strength to defy death on the various contemporary migration routes," he said.
