Ms. Rachel teams up with N.J. Democrat to protest Delaney Hall: ‘It just broke my heart’

Ms. Rachel, a popular children’s entertainer, teamed up with U.S. Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) on Tuesday to condemn the separation of children from their parents detained at Delaney Hall.

Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, visited the immigrant detention center in Newark on Monday to meet with children whose parents have been detained. In recent months, she has been an outspoken advocate of children and their families who have been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a video shared by Kim on Tuesday, Ms. Rachel described her visit to Delaney Hall. She also blasted Dilley Immigration Processing Center — a detention center in Texas — for detaining children.

Ms. Rachel thanked Kim for speaking out against the conditions of Delaney Hall and showed him letters from children being held in the Texas detention center. The video was taken in the Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

“Senator Kim, thank you so much for taking the time to look at the letters and the children at Dilley Immigration Detention Center, who’ve been in there sometimes for many months and who are still there now, and for reading their words and hearing their voices. It means the world to us,” she told Kim.

“I also want to thank you so much for all you’ve done for Delaney Hall. I was there yesterday, and I was up till 2am worried about these kids and families. They’re so wonderful, and they just miss their parents so much. And the trauma was just very obvious. And it just broke my heart,” she said.

In 1620, the Mayflower plowed across the Atlantic through headwinds and ocean currents at an incredibly slow two miles per hour. The overcrowded vessel’s crossing took more than two harrowing months. On the way, its 102 passengers witnessed an astonishing scene. During a fierce storm, an indentured servant named John Howland had come topside for fresh air when the ship rolled violently, casting him into the raging sea. He sank well beneath the waves. Such a fate almost certainly meant death by drowning. Yet, somehow, Howland had managed to grab a halyard on his way overboard, and desperately clung to it long enough for the crew to haul him back to safety.

Back in 2019, the founders of Amazing Discoveries (AD) split apart from the ministry to form a new ministry, Quo Vadis.

It seems that there were differences between the founders and their daughter, Wendy. It is now becoming apparent that some of those differences are theological. Matthew Schanche, formerly affiliated with Amazing Discoveries made this statement two days ago:

“Blessings, brothers and sisters. After years of working together, my journey of spreading the message with Amazing Discoveries has come to an end. It has become evident that my beliefs and convictions no longer align with AD’s current direction and teachings. I’ve received numerous questions about my absence, and in this video, I respectfully share where I stand on key issues, why I can no longer be associated with certain views promoted by AD, and discuss what comes next.”

Observations

We are told that numerous people left AD over the last couple years, due to their support of the ‘2520’ theory.

Steve Wohlberg wrote an excellent article in 2020 about the dangers of the 2520 theory. We recommend avoiding the 2520 theory. It has unnecessarily divided churches, marriages and families. Back in August, at least 5 people left AD because of the 2520 nonsense. Over the last three years, around 30 have left for the same reason. Proponents of it generally believe it is a salvational issue to accept it.

According to the above video, AD teaches that Islam will play a key role in the end time events, a view that Walter Veith shared in the past, although he saw the papacy as the malevolent puppet master behind the scenes.

Apparently, Amazing Discoveries’ new view of Islam is that it is the king of the north and is responsible for the seven last plagues. This has led Matthew to separate himself from AD.

We don’t take a hard line stance on the King of the North and the King of the south. We do believe that God will make the identity of these entities plain, in His good time.

It is also noteworthy that Walter Veith recently separated himself from Amazing Discoveries. There appears to be a trend, here.

The United Nations has an image problem. Founded in 1945 while the world was still reeling from World War II, the organization was touted as a means to bring peace and security to the world. Considering how many wars have been fought since then, it is a fair statement that the United Nations has not made the world more peaceful. A partial list of wars since the United Nations came into existence includes the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Soviet-Afghan War, the Gulf War, the Yugoslav Wars, the U.S. War with the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, the Syrian Civil War, the Yemeni Civil War, the war in Sudan, the Russo-Ukrainian War, the Israel-Gaza War, and a conflict with Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, which could soon escalate into a full-scale war involving multiple countries. Against the backdrop of an increasingly volatile world, the United Nations has developed a reputation as an ineffectual entity on the geopolitical stage.

The growing dissatisfaction with the UN is evident in a piece published by Bloomberg News last year. The September 2023 piece declares in its headline “World Disappointed by the UN Now Look Elsewhere for Answers.” (1) The piece notes that China has offered to spearhead efforts to establish an alternative entity to the UN. Speaking at a speech given to the BRICS alliance, Chinese President Xi Jinping told his audience, “We should help reform global governance.” BRICS is an acronym for an intergovernmental organization that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. (2) In early 2024, the group expanded, adding the nations of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. (3) In September 2024, Turkey announced its intention to join BRICS as well. (4)

The United Nations claims to be an entirely secular organization. The UN Charter contains no mention of Jesus Christ, and this explains why they have been unsuccessful in bringing peace and security to the world. You cannot have genuine peace without the Prince of Peace. In John 14:27, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ tells us that the peace that comes from Him is different from the false peace of the world. This verse declares, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

In addition, Tom Monaghan [Domino’s Pizza boss at http://www.usdreams.com/Monaghan7677.html ], and Robert Novak well known conservative Chicago journalist often seen on Meet the Press, are cooperators, including conservative Catholics like Tim Russert of NBC news, Chris Matthews of NBC news and MSNBC, just to name a few of the important government, economic, and media personalities tied to or supporters of Opus Dei (Cocozzelli 2006; http://www.mond.at/opus.dei/ ; http://supreme.justia.com/scripts/search ). Further, a number of Opus Dei cooperators are also connected to the Neo-conservative think-tank Project for the New American Century, and the Institute on Religion and Democracy (Cocozzelli 2006-2007). Opus Dei seeks out the elite and wealthy for leadership, with the goal of infusing the U.S. [and the world] with a pre-Vatican II morality. Opus Dei elite and supporters are Republican and staunch supporters of President George W. Bush. The Society did not find much support, however, from either Pope John XXIII nor from Paul VI, but has found enormous support and stature under Pope John Paul II and the present Pope Benedict XVI. 31 531 U.S. 98 (2000)

Washington (AFP) - This week's Oval Office meeting between Barack Obama and Pope Francis will be the 29th encounter between a Catholic pontiff and a US president. But for decades such a meeting was improbable.

Obama, a Protestant, has been effusive in his praise for the pontiff, but many previous US presidents have been more cautious. Mistrust had long colored relations between the United States and the Vatican.

American Catholics -- largely of Irish, Italian, Polish and Hispanic extraction -- have been accused of having more loyalty to Rome than their homeland.

"The United States had a long history of anti-Catholicism since the first settlers were mostly Protestants who brought with them their disdain for Catholicism," said Thomas Reese, a senior analyst for National Catholic Reporter.

"They also feared that if Catholics ever got power, they would impose their religion on the country. The Know Nothings, the KKK, and anti-immigrant movements were all anti-Catholic."

When Democratic governor Al Smith ran in the 1928 presidential election, he came under withering attack.

"Some critics said that if he won, he would build a tunnel from the White House to the Vatican," said Reese.

The first meeting between a pope and a president did not come until 1919, until after World War I — when Woodrow Wilson held an audience with Pope Benedict XV.

The next meeting would not be for 40 years, between Dwight Eisenhower and Pope John XXIII.

"Post WWII, American Catholics began to become more integrated into American culture and society,” said Chester Gillis, a professor of theology at Georgetown University.

Many Catholics gained access to university, thanks to the “GI Bill” which helped troops get a university education and enter the middle class.

Mixed-religion marriages became more and more common.

In 1961, John F. Kennedy became the first Roman Catholic president, and the only one to date.

But his path to the White House was not without difficulty.

"Many thought if you elect a Catholic, then the pope will have an influence on political policy in America,” said Gillis.

"There was a fear the president's first loyalty would be to his church and Kennedy assured people he would not do that. And he did not do that."

"I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute; where no Catholic prelate would tell the President -- should he be Catholic -- how to act,” he said in one 1960 speech when still a presidential candidate.

"I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party's candidate for President who happens also to be a Catholic,” he said.

"I do not speak for my church on public matters; and the church does not speak for me."

After Kennedy there was a burst of presidential-papal pow-wows. Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford all meet their Vatican counterparts.

The Second Vatican Council, which began in 1961, made it clearer that any future Catholic presidents may not face the same doubts Kennedy did.

The church "no longer required Catholics if they came into power to make Catholicism the state religion. The church became a supporter of religious freedom and freedom of conscience,” said Reese.

But in a country where 20 percent of the population is Catholic, it still was not until Jimmy Carter’s presidency in 1979 that a pope — John Paul II — would come to the White House for the first time.

Many of these meetings were little more than symbolic gestures, with little political substance.

But the relationship between Ronald Reagan and John Paul II marked a shift; both were vehemently anti-Communist.

Obama has already met Pope Francis once and it has been a meeting of minds.

Both have urged action to tackle climate change and Obama’s efforts to restore ties with Cuba has gelled with the current pope’s efforts to see Havana open up politically.

That has irked Obama’s Republican foes, who oppose the perceived papal blessing for Obama’s political agenda.

In a sign of just how deep the anger is, Paul Gosar a Republican Catholic from Arizona, has stated that he will boycott the Pope’s historic speech to Congress.

“When the Pope chooses to act and talk like a leftist politician, then he can expect to be treated like one,” he said.

He accused Francis of adopting "the false science being propagated by the Left."

"If the Pope wants to devote his life to fighting climate change then he can do so in his personal time. But to promote questionable science as Catholic dogma is ridiculous.”

Gosar and others may take some comforting in the fact that on issues like abortion and same sex marriage there is still a vast distance between Obama and the head of the Catholic church.

Pope Francis' upcoming visit to Cuba has prompted Cuban American faithfuls like Frances Gomez and Martha Lidia Serra Mohr to travel to the island for the first time in decades, with hopes that the pope will bring change to Cuba.

Pope Francis will visit Cuba on his way to the United States in late September, the Vatican announces
Pope Francis on Wednesday confirmed he will travel to Cuba before his trip to the United States in September.

His spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, announced at the Vatican that Francis had accepted the invitations of Cuban government officials and the island’s Roman Catholic bishops to visit.

Francis’ decision comes at a time of a historic renewal of diplomatic ties between the United States and Cuba after more than half a century, a breakthrough for which the pope has received much credit. Adding Cuba to the itinerary seals that accomplishment, in which he served as a bridge between the two erstwhile enemies.

As The Times reported in December after Presidents Obama and Raul Castro announced the thaw in relations, Francis had worked behind the scenes, steering complex negotiations between representatives of the two governments and then overseeing the final talks in Rome in October.

"Today we are all happy because we have seen how two peoples, who were far apart for many years, yesterday took a step to get closer," Francis said after the presidents’ announcement.

The first pontiff from the Americas, Francis, an Argentine and a Jesuit, is scheduled to begin a three-city tour of the United States on Sept. 23. His agenda includes speeches at the United Nations in New York and before Congress in Washington. In addition, he will meet with Obama and speak to a gathering of Catholic families in Philadelphia.

Both of Francis’ previous two predecessors also traveled to Cuba. In the first such trip by a pontiff, John Paul II went in 1998 for a groundbreaking meeting with Fidel Castro that is largely credited with the beginnings of slightly more freedom for the island’s Catholics.

Benedict XVI followed in 2012, when he saw Fidel’s successor, brother Raul Castro, and offered an important boost to Cardinal Jaime Ortega, who was also engaged in a form of rapprochement with the Communist government.

Benedict at the time reiterated long-standing Vatican positions -- condemning both Marxism and the U.S. embargo against Cuba -- but he recognized the beginnings of change.

“It must be said with joy that in Cuba, steps have been taken to enable the church to carry out her essential mission of expressing her faith openly and publicly," Benedict said in Havana.

"Nonetheless, this must continue forward, and I wish to encourage the country's government authorities to strengthen what has already been achieved and advance along this path of genuine service to the true good of Cuban society as a whole."

Mario Paredes, an expert on the church in Latin America with the American Bible Society, said Francis' decision to travel to Cuba was in keeping with his commitment to helping Latin America come to terms with the role the Cuban Revolution played in the region.

Paredes noted that the then-archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who would later become Pope Francis, wrote a book about the first papal visit to the island in 1998, entitled "Dialogue between John Paul II and Fidel Castro."

"Even then he was already reflecting on Cuba and in defense of dialogue ... as a way of mending situations marred by mistrust and confrontation," Paredes said in a telephone interview from New York.
