Florida’s no-children-at-drag shows law upheld by federal appeals court

A federal appeals court has upheld a Florida law banning children from attending drag shows, a measure put in place with the support of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In an 8-5 opinion handed down Tuesday, the majority ruled the law was constitutional, while those on the dissenting side criticized the measure as overreach.

“The act is a straight forward regulation of obscenity,” wrote Judge Andrew Brasher, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, on behalf of the majority. “Preventing children from attending adult live performances obscene for them is rationally related to Florida’s interest in safeguarding the well-being of minors.”

DeSantis posted on X that “this shouldn’t even be controversial, yet our law protecting kids required to fend off lawsuits and win a case before a divided appellate court.”

The Legislature in 2023 passed SB 1438, the “Protection of Children Act.”

The law threatens fines, loss of operating licenses, and criminal penalties against any venues that expose any “child” to “lewd” performances, even if the child has parental consent.

They’re dolling up the trans agenda — and taxpayers are footing the bill.

“First-of-their-kind” transgender dolls — complete with removable genitalia — will debut in some Minnesota classrooms this fall to kids as young as 4 years old.

The paper dolls, with gender-neutral names like “Sam,” “Rory,” “Avery” and “Parker,” have removable internal and external genitals, along with more than 100 interchangeable pieces of clothing, accessories and hairstyles — like a trans Mr./Mrs. Potato Head.

The goal is for kids to “learn about the different options that exist for who they can be,” according to a therapist at the University of Minnesota Medical School, which spent over half a decade developing the controversial project funded by lefty Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz


The Medical School’s Institute for Sexual and Gender Health research over those six years included paying $20 to $60 for “trans and gender diverse” children and their parents to play with the dolls and “talk about gender and bodies” in groups.

Prototypes of the dolls were shown in a 2024 conference where one named “Sam” can be seen in what appears to be some phase of a gender transition, with a detachable penis off to the side, and a dress and girls’ underwear within reach.

The trans dolls — which promise to “make gender fun” — will be made available to teachers, school counselors, pediatricians and mental health providers, according to a website of the “MyGender Dolls” company. It features an image of a boy doll wearing a dress and others in various states of sexual identity confusion.

It’s not known whether parents — or children themselves — will be able to order a doll, or if they will only be marketed to professionals and schools. It is not known if parents will be able to opt out of such “therapeutic play” for their kids.

The dolls began as a University of Minnesota research project, which was later spun into a commercial venture — “MyGender Dolls” — by two licensed psychologists who are professors at the medical school.

The website does not reveal the cost of the paper dolls.

The University of Minnesota’s Medical School has been receiving $15 million annual funding from the state via Walz — cash earmarked to “increase the medical school’s research capacity” and “ensure its national prominence.”

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman is accusing Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul of religious bigotry for enforcing a transgender rights law she approved that is forcing Catholic nuns who run a hospice program to choose between their beliefs or caring for indigent, terminally ill patients.

The controversy concerns the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne in Westchester County who run Rosary Hill Home — a Catholic hospice for the poor.

The order filed a federal lawsuit accusing the state of violating their constitutional rights with a 2024 law that requires the facility to affirm patients’ gender identity in regard to pronouns, room assignments and restroom usage.

The law bars nursing or long-term care facilities from discriminating against any resident based on the resident’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or HIV status.

But the Trump Justice Department recently intervened in the case on behalf of the Dominican Sisters, claiming New York is engaged in religious discrimination at the 42-bed hospice care facility.

“What Kathy Hochul is doing to the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne is an absolute disgrace. For over 120 years, these incredible women have done God’s work, providing unconditional love, comfort, and dignity to people in their final days,” Blakeman told The Post.

“They are saints walking among us, and they represent the absolute best of New York. Yet, Kathy Hochul is actually willing to shut them down, strip away their license, and throw terminal cancer patients out on the street—all to enforce her woke garbage.”

Can men get pregnant? Is our society going insane?

In a Senate hearing yesterday, a display of leftist insanity revealed a culture on the brink of disaster

Can men get pregnant? Can you believe such a question would ever be asked in a Senate hearing? Can you imagine that a doctor would refuse to answer the question?

If you have been paying attention to our continuing cultural breakdown, perhaps you can imagine such astounding nonsense. But, thanks to a U.S. Senate hearing yesterday, you don’t even have to use your imagination. You can just watch the insanity unfold.

In a hearing held by the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on the safety of chemical abortion drugs, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., asked Dr. Nisha Verma, an obstetrician, a very simple question: “Can men get pregnant?” But, astoundingly, Dr. Verma would not answer the senator’s question. Sen. Hawley pressed again and again, asking the same straightforward question. Dr. Verma just stonewalled, and stonewalled, and stonewalled.

The exchange is riveting. No work of fiction could match the intensity of the insanity. “Can men get pregnant?,” Hawley asked repeatedly. Dr. Verma responded with a carefully planned obstructionism. “I’m not really sure what the goal of the question” is, she asserted. Sen. Hawley just stated: “The goal is just to establish a biological reality.”

A Christian pre-med student has gone viral in recent days for filing a religious discrimination complaint with the University of Oklahoma after a trans-identified teaching assistant allegedly flunked her for an essay stating that gender ideology is "demonic."

Samantha Fulnecky, a junior at the University of Oklahoma who is majoring in psychology, received a zero out of 25 for a 650-word opinion essay she was told to write in her "Lifespan Development" class in response to an article about social gender expectations, according to The Oklahoman.

According to a copy of her essay published by the local outlet, Fulnecky asserted that God created two distinct genders with different roles, and that the idea of changing one's gender is a satanic assault against that design.

"I strongly disagree with the idea from the article that encouraging acceptance of diverse gender expressions could improve students' confidence," she wrote. "Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be what they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth."

Graduate teaching assistant William "Mel" Curth, who uses "she/they" pronouns, took apparent offense at Fulnecky's claims in the essay, and was especially upset at her use of the word "demonic" to describe gender ideology.

"To call an entire group of people 'demonic' is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population," Curth reportedly wrote in an online grading portal.

"Please note that I am not deducting points because you have certain beliefs, but instead I am deducting point [sic] for you posting a reaction paper that does not answer the questions for this assignment, contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive," Curth also said.

"I implore you [to] apply some more perspective and empathy in your work," Curth added.

Fifty trans women had lunch with Pope Leo: "A gesture of welcome.

"The group, accompanied by Father Andrea Conocchia and Sister Genevieve Jeanningros, said: "A sign of concern for the LGBT community."

Smith College, a historically all-female institution, on Sunday gave an honorary degree to a man who identifies as a woman. The college presented Rachel Levine, a man originally named Richard, with the degree during its 147th commencement ceremony. Levine also spoke to the school’s graduating class. He was the assistant secretary for health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Biden administration. Smith College said it was honoring him for his work in public health and advancing LGBTQ advocacy.

Representatives of Women’s Declaration International, a feminist organization that advocates for sex-based protections for women, protested outside the school the day before the ceremony.

Who else was honored at the ceremony? The school also gave honorary degrees and speech slots to three women for their work in political theory, music performance, and mental health. Smith College began admitting male students who identify as women in 2015, according to Inside Higher Ed.

What is Levine known for? His 2021 appointment as assistant health secretary made him the highest-ranking openly transgender U.S. official. He also was celebrated as the first female four-star admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, according to the National Women’s History Museum. Levine notably pushed to remove age limits for genital surgery from guidelines published by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

New York Attorney General Letitia James warned local hospitals Monday that they will be in violation of state discrimination laws if they comply with President Trump’s executive order aimed at outlawing sex-change procedures for minors.

“Regardless of the availability of federal funding, we write to further remind you of your obligations to comply with New York State laws, including those that prohibit discrimination against individuals based on their membership in a protected class, such as sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, creed, color, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, military status, disability, or marital status,” James wrote in a letter to New York health care facilities.

“Electing to refuse services to a class of individuals based on their protected status, such as withholding the availability of services from transgender individuals based on their gender identity or their diagnosis of gender dysphoria, while offering such services to cisgender individuals, is discrimination under New York law,” she added.

Reading for the bottom line has become almost instinctual in US public discourse; we’re hungry for a digestible takeaway. When The New York Times recently announced that a new “Vatican Document Casts Gender Change and Fluidity as Threat to Human Dignity,” it’s safe to assume that most readers skimmed the article, if they even read past the headline. It’s the sort of headline that zeroes in on the personal interests of a significant part of the Times’ audience, addressing political hot buttons in language that, understandably, arouses strong feelings in the reader. When the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) released Dignitas Infinita on April 8, many had likely already made up their minds about the document, and it’s not clear how many proceeded to actually read it. But those who did, particularly those who have most reason to feel threatened by it, might have found themselves bewildered.
