Florida’s no-children-at-drag shows law upheld by federal appeals court

A federal appeals court has upheld a Florida law banning children from attending drag shows, a measure put in place with the support of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In an 8-5 opinion handed down Tuesday, the majority ruled the law was constitutional, while those on the dissenting side criticized the measure as overreach.

“The act is a straight forward regulation of obscenity,” wrote Judge Andrew Brasher, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, on behalf of the majority. “Preventing children from attending adult live performances obscene for them is rationally related to Florida’s interest in safeguarding the well-being of minors.”

DeSantis posted on X that “this shouldn’t even be controversial, yet our law protecting kids required to fend off lawsuits and win a case before a divided appellate court.”

The Legislature in 2023 passed SB 1438, the “Protection of Children Act.”

The law threatens fines, loss of operating licenses, and criminal penalties against any venues that expose any “child” to “lewd” performances, even if the child has parental consent.

The legislation sailed through the New York State Senate this week after previously passing the Assembly, marking a significant victory for progressive lawmakers who have championed gender-neutral language in government documents. Proponents argue the change promotes inclusivity and recognizes diverse family structures in modern society. Critics, however, see this as yet another attack on traditional values and an erasure of biological reality from legal frameworks that have served families for generations. The bill would fundamentally alter how New York recognizes parenthood in legal contexts, affecting divorce proceedings, custody battles, adoption paperwork, birth certificates, and school enrollment documents.

Conservative advocates warn this represents a dangerous trend of ideology trumping common sense in state governance. The practical implications extend far beyond semantics. Medical professionals, legal experts, and family court judges would be required to adopt this new terminology despite its clinical awkwardness and departure from universally understood biological terms. The gestating parent designation explicitly centers pregnancy and childbirth as defining characteristics, while non-gestating parent creates a negative definition based on what someone did not do rather than their actual parental role.

Governor Hochul has remained publicly silent on whether she will sign the measure into law, though her administration has consistently aligned with progressive legislative priorities throughout her tenure. New York would join a small but growing number of jurisdictions implementing similar language policies in official government communications. The timing of this bill comes as parents across America increasingly push back against what they view as ideological overreach in schools and government institutions. Taxpayer-funded trans dolls with removable genitalia to hit classrooms this fall for kids as young as 4 to ‘learn about different options’

They’re dolling up the trans agenda — and taxpayers are footing the bill.

“First-of-their-kind” transgender dolls — complete with removable genitalia — will debut in some Minnesota classrooms this fall to kids as young as 4 years old.

The paper dolls, with gender-neutral names like “Sam,” “Rory,” “Avery” and “Parker,” have removable internal and external genitals, along with more than 100 interchangeable pieces of clothing, accessories and hairstyles — like a trans Mr./Mrs. Potato Head.

The goal is for kids to “learn about the different options that exist for who they can be,” according to a therapist at the University of Minnesota Medical School, which spent over half a decade developing the controversial project funded by lefty Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz


The Medical School’s Institute for Sexual and Gender Health research over those six years included paying $20 to $60 for “trans and gender diverse” children and their parents to play with the dolls and “talk about gender and bodies” in groups.

Prototypes of the dolls were shown in a 2024 conference where one named “Sam” can be seen in what appears to be some phase of a gender transition, with a detachable penis off to the side, and a dress and girls’ underwear within reach.

The trans dolls — which promise to “make gender fun” — will be made available to teachers, school counselors, pediatricians and mental health providers, according to a website of the “MyGender Dolls” company. It features an image of a boy doll wearing a dress and others in various states of sexual identity confusion.

It’s not known whether parents — or children themselves — will be able to order a doll, or if they will only be marketed to professionals and schools. It is not known if parents will be able to opt out of such “therapeutic play” for their kids.

The dolls began as a University of Minnesota research project, which was later spun into a commercial venture — “MyGender Dolls” — by two licensed psychologists who are professors at the medical school.

The website does not reveal the cost of the paper dolls.

The University of Minnesota’s Medical School has been receiving $15 million annual funding from the state via Walz — cash earmarked to “increase the medical school’s research capacity” and “ensure its national prominence.”

My Return to Kinship Kampmeeting

Back in the late 1980s, I was a new pastor in the San Francisco Bay Area. At a church event I met sociologist Ron Lawson, who was researching a book on Seventh-day Adventists. Ron told us of a still relatively new organization called Kinship, a gathering for gay and lesbian Seventh-day Adventists. (Bisexual, transexual, and intersex people weren’t yet on the category list, though they were surely present in the church.) Kinship’s Kampmeeting (always spelled with a K) was at the Monte Toyon Retreat Center in the Santa Cruz Mountains the next week, Ron said, and would I come and speak to the group?

I did—and I should admit that I was well out of my depth. I tried. But I had just come from being a pastor in rural South Dakota, and though I was liberal in my beliefs, I was inexperienced and unconfident. I wasn’t fully comfortable in my own pastoral role. I was addressing a group of people who I sympathized with, but didn’t really understand.

Although everyone was kind to me, I do remember it as a tense and occasionally angry gathering—and for good reason. Back then, most were young. (The group is older now.) Then there was little Christian fellowship for people who openly identified as L, G, B, T, I, or otherwise Q. Some hoped that they could “come out” and still be Seventh-day Adventists. But most had, by that time, realized that wasn’t going to happen quickly—or possibly ever. A few were church workers who desperately needed reassurance, but were terrified they might be exposed.

The Colin Cook affair—denominational leaders’ continuing support of a gay ex-pastor who sexually abused young men under the cover of changing them into straight people—was very much on their minds. AIDS had emerged just a few years earlier; there had already been fatalities, and everyone knew there were going to be more.

Blakeman accuses Hochul of anti-Catholic bigotry over LBGTQ law that would force hospice nuns to violate their beliefs

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman is accusing Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul of religious bigotry for enforcing a transgender rights law she approved that is forcing Catholic nuns who run a hospice program to choose between their beliefs or caring for indigent, terminally ill patients.

The controversy concerns the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne in Westchester County who run Rosary Hill Home — a Catholic hospice for the poor.

The order filed a federal lawsuit accusing the state of violating their constitutional rights with a 2024 law that requires the facility to affirm patients’ gender identity in regard to pronouns, room assignments and restroom usage.

The law bars nursing or long-term care facilities from discriminating against any resident based on the resident’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or HIV status.

But the Trump Justice Department recently intervened in the case on behalf of the Dominican Sisters, claiming New York is engaged in religious discrimination at the 42-bed hospice care facility.

“What Kathy Hochul is doing to the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne is an absolute disgrace. For over 120 years, these incredible women have done God’s work, providing unconditional love, comfort, and dignity to people in their final days,” Blakeman told The Post.

“They are saints walking among us, and they represent the absolute best of New York. Yet, Kathy Hochul is actually willing to shut them down, strip away their license, and throw terminal cancer patients out on the street—all to enforce her woke garbage.”

La Sierra University Selects Lesbian to Give Commencement Address

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – On Sunday, June 14 almost 400 La Sierra University graduates celebrated their graduation to a commencement speech by California State Sen. Sabrina Cervantes.

A Democrat, Sabrina Cervantes currently represents the 58th Assembly District, which comprises portions of the Inland Empire. Sabrina was first elected to the State Legislature in 2016, and from 2022-2024, served as Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus. She is also the first openly LGBTQ+ hispanic person to represent Western Riverside County in the Legislature. “Sabrina and her ‘wife’, Courtney, are the proud parents of triplets.”



Other speakers were Sam Leonor (of One Project infamy) and Criston Arthur, the previous provost of Andrews University.

Arthur spoke for the Lavender (LGBTQ+) Graduation on June 5. To the LGBTQ+ Lavenders Arthur said “You are La Sierra,” affirming that the university community is “big enough for all,” and expressing his support for them.

Leonor spoke at the baccalaureate.

The lesbian State Senator Sabrina Cervantes gave the commencement address.

I wonder what Harold Marshall Sylvester (HMS) Richards (who has a building named after him on LaSierra campus) would say about this lavender graduation? I wonder what he would say about them having a lesbian with a ‘wife’ give the commencement address?

Giants’ Pride hat controversy: Tolerance does not apply to Christians

The San Francisco Giants held their annual Pride Night last week to honor the LGBTQ+ community. The celebration included 10 gay couples renewing their wedding vows and a drag queen standing along the first base line.

Four Christian ballplayers on the Giants chose to make a statement about their faith. While all the other players wore a “Pride” hat (a Giants hat with a rainbow patch attached), one pitcher, Sam Hentges, wore his regular Giants cap without the rainbow.

Three other Giants pitchers — Landon Roupp, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker — wore the Pride hat, but cited Bible verses next to the rainbow logo.

Hentges added: “It’s just something that I feel like I was forced to support when I don’t morally support it. There wasn’t hatred behind it. I think that’s kind of something that’s misinterpreted. I don’t hate the LGBTQ community.”

The Jerusalem Pride and Tolerance Parade is set to take place on Thursday evening, with participants expected to gather in central Jerusalem before beginning their march toward the city center.

The event marks the opening of Pride Month in Israel and is expected to draw participants, supporters, and observers from across the country.

Police have completed their preparations ahead of the event, deploying officers throughout key areas of the city to manage traffic, ensure public safety, and maintain order along the route.

Authorities said the operation includes both visible and undercover units, with an emphasis on safeguarding participants and minimizing disruption to daily activity.

As part of the arrangements, several main roads in the city are expected to be temporarily closed or restricted during the march, with alternative routes recommended for drivers. Traffic management plans will remain in place for the duration of the event and will be adjusted as needed.

Loma Linda University is a faith-based institution historically rooted in Seventh-day Adventist Christian teachings. They traditionally affirmed a biblical view of sexuality (male-female marriage, with sexual relations reserved for that context). We still do. But look at them:



Observations

This LGBTQ+ program frames homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and related identities as something deserving a dedicated "safe space" for affirmation, "self-acceptance," coming-out discussions, and navigating "religion and spirituality" conflicts. It positions these identities as neutral or positive variations to be celebrated and supported with institutional resources, staff time, and a designated facilitator (Jana Boyd), while emphasizing confidentiality to shield discussions from outside scrutiny.

Critics (like Fulcrum7, for instance) would argue this represents institutional capture by contemporary gender and sexuality ideology rather than neutral support. And they are right.

Instead of offering compassionate pastoral care or counseling aimed at alignment with the university's professed Christian anthropology (human sexuality as defined by God in the Bible), it normalizes behaviors and identities that many religious traditions, including conservative Christianity / Adventism, view as disordered or sinful (Leviticus 18:22).

By providing an official platform for "sharing common experiences" and "increasing understanding" around these topics, the group risks functioning as an echo chamber that reinforces confusion, discourages repentance or desistance (especially concerning for students and those with gender dysphoria), and pressures the broader campus community to affirm contested claims about identity.

The "not a counseling or therapy group" disclaimer is telling — it avoids professional accountability while still addressing deep psychological and spiritual matters. In a religious university setting, resources might be better directed toward biblical counseling, addiction recovery, anxiety/depression support, or family strengthening in line with historic biblical truth, rather than subsidizing identity-based activism that conflicts with Adventism’s biblical teaching on human sexuality.

Much of our contemporary culture sees inclusion as the ultimate virtue and exclusion the ultimate vice. Equality is the new moral righteousness of ideologically-captured (former) SDA institutions. So how do we see this? We see this as another example of church institutions quietly shifting from their founding principles toward secular progressive orthodoxy under the banner of "inclusion."

To put it in street lingo, ‘They gone.’

How did you first meet, and what drew you to each other in the beginning?

Kendra and Roxan

Well, surprisingly, and ironically we met at seminary.

But our love story wasn’t a clean simple journey that people often imagine when they think of two people falling in love. Maybe it’s just us, but I suspect a lot of queer couples, especially those raised in more conservative religious spaces, understand that reality. Seminary was the last place anyone would expect queer love to happen.

Our lives hold a lot of beauty now, but that’s not necessarily how it started.

I sometimes wish our journey began the way love stories are “supposed” to start, the ways we see in movies or portrayed in social media. You like each other, you go on dates, your friends are excited for you, your families are supportive, everyone celebrates it. But when you are living inside a tight-knit religious community, people often feel deeply invested in your life choices, especially if they feel you are “walking in sin,” and partaking in actions that will lead to your eternal destruction. Believing our budding relationship was something we needed to “repent” of, doesn’t exactly create the cinematic portrayal of romance.

For me, the beginning of our romantic relationship meant the collapse of my relationship with Adventism.

When we met, we were both in seminary trying to understand ourselves, God, and what we were meant to do with our lives. Seminary was a spiritual journey for me, completely existential. For women to go to an Adventist seminary at all, means something else is driving her than the hope to one day be an ordained pastor. We enter school knowing that ordination is not possible for us, but we go anyway hoping that some church will recognize our intelligence and ability to lead, and invite us alongside them in “the work.”

We met in a class where a professor described having excommunicated a woman from his church some years ago because 10 years after she divorced her physically abusive husband, she wanted to remarry. She had been single for 10 years, but this professor believed scripture meant she no longer had the right to marry again. I remember another student, a young man, actually, getting so upset that he walked out of class entirely.

And I remember thinking: Something is very wrong here. Where is the common sense? The compassion, the humanity, the shame. I looked around seeing so many heads nodding in agreement or in silent acquiescence. Roxan did not nod along or fear confrontation. Much like me she had a righteous stubbornness.

It was sad to see the scarcity of those willing to openly challenge what felt so obviously oppressive. For some it was ignorance. For others, cowardice. For Roxan, it was neither.

That was our first real connection.

We would spend hours at the coffee shop after class debriefing on the absurdity and hurtfulness of the myriad of beliefs that continued to deny the validity of our experience and value as women. We admitted to each other and ourselves, all the ways we could no longer force ourselves to carry a yoke of beliefs that were crushing us.

The beginning of our love story felt biblical. Like the Exodus. “You have broken the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders,” (Isaiah 9:4, author paraphrased).

Blending Adventism with Lavender Graduation is like mixing used motor oil with fresh orange juice. It profanes the sacred with rainbow glitter poured over the altar.

Yet on June 5, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in Sierra Vista Chapel at La Sierra University Church in Riverside, Kinship Sabbath School will host its Lavender Graduation for the “LGBT+ Class of 2026.”

They celebrate “resilience and resistance.” It is a resistance to the plain Word of God. This is no innocent ceremony. Lavender graduations began in the 1990s to celebrate what Scripture calls sin. Now it invades a Seventh-day Adventist chapel. Graduates wear lavender stoles, hear their identities cheered without repentance, and turn a house intended for worship into a platform for pride — the very spirit God resists (Proverbs 16:18; James 4:6).

Friends and “chosen family” will applaud as rebellion is renamed righteousness.

Liberal adventism (lower case intentional) thrives on this. It craves cultural applause, trading “Thus saith the Lord” for “Thus feels the culture.” Biblical authority bends to personal experience.

Objecting to this abomination will get you called ‘homophobic.’ The sad truth is these people are Biblephobes and Holinessphobes.

Notice the profound difference beween this Seventh-day Adventist school and Biola University, a non-Adventist school.

“Biola University’s position on marriage affirms the goodness of sexual relationships as designed by God to be expressed within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. More information on the University’s theological position regarding human sexuality may be found in its Board of Trustees’ approved Statement of Biblical Principles: God’s Intentional Design for Life.

We believe that sexual activity outside of marriage, behavior involving or having the potential to lead to sexual activity outside of marriage (including, but not limited to nudity, cohabitation, pornography), and sexual activity between two persons of the same sex (whether or not married) is contrary to God’s intentional design for sexuality. Living out God’s intent for sexual expression, while requiring sacrifice at times, is ultimately a source of freedom (John 10:10). Biola hopes to foster a community where living according to this intent helps each person thrive personally, relationally, and spiritually.

Biola’s Position on Gender

Biola University’s position on gender affirms the goodness of God’s creation of humankind as male and female. Specifically, in its Statement of Biblical Principles: God’s Intentional Design for Life, Biola states, “We believe God created all things and set in place the laws of nature, not according to random chance but according to his perfect, miraculous and purposeful plan...God created the natural world and called it good, and after he created male and female he declared his creation very good.”

Our sex as male or female is a biological given of the individual human person from conception made manifest at birth, and is a stable characteristic of the person determined by God’s creational intent.”
