The law is part of the New South Wales Conversion Practices Ban Act of 2024, and includes: "... performing a ritual, such as an exorcism or prayer-based practice to change or suppress someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity." The new law was challenged but then was "reaffirmed" by Attorney General Michael Daley in Sept. 2025. “Some prayers are now illegal in NSW,” said Lyle Shelton, who is the national director of the Family First Australia political party. He went on to say that: “If a mum, dad, pastor, or friend prays with someone who asks for help to follow God’s word, they could face sanction.” Since laws and doctrines have a way of creeping from places like Australia and the U.K. across the water and into the United States ... could this insanity one day be empowered in America? Islamophobia training cancelled over teachers’ ‘anti-Semitic’ posts
Academic speakers at event for psychotherapists compared Zionists to fascists and accused Israel of ‘genocide’ on social media
A training session for psychotherapists on tackling Islamophobia was cancelled after three academics leading the event were accused of posting anti-Semitic material on social media.
Messages posted or shared by the trainers on X described Israel as a Nazi state and referred to “a Zionism problem” in healthcare institutions.
The event, organised by the professional body for psychotherapists, had been intended to help therapists and wellbeing practitioners become aware of the impact of Islamophobia on mental health.
But the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) cancelled the session after complaints about the three trainers prompted an internal investigation into their social media activities.
The speakers at the May 15 event were to have been Ghazala Mir, a professor of health equity and inclusion at the University of Leeds; Dr Tarek Younis, senior lecturer in psychology at Middlesex University, and Prof Ahmed Hankir, a consultant psychiatrist and visiting professor at the University of Cardiff.

Why The Bridge Initiative?
The Bridge Initiative was born out of recognition that the age of the Internet-with its democratization of communications-presents unique challenges and opportunities for those seeking to educate the public and inform popular culture. In recent decades, anti-Islam and anti-Muslim bigotry and discrimination has increased exponentially in the United States and Europe, with national and global consequences. Pseudo-scholars and polemicists peddle their writing online, are viewed by many as credible and reliable voices, and therefore strongly impact popular culture. The emergence of a well-funded organized Islamophobic network (OIN) has spawned websites and false narratives on the Internet that seep from the web into media and popular culture. As a result, Americans - the majority of whom look to the Internet for information and answers on pressing questions - miss credible empirical information and are bombarded with pseudo-scholarship that fosters prejudice and fear. This pioneering "crossover" initiative brings faculty, subject-matter experts, and researchers together to examine attitudes and behaviors towards Muslims: to dissect public discourses on Islam; to uncover the operational mechanisms of engineered Islamophobia; to develop and disseminate alternative narratives that raise public awareness and enrich public discourse on this dangerous form of prejudice.
Why ACMCU?
The mission of Georgetown University's Center, since its founding in 1993, has been to build stronger bridges of understanding between the Muslim World and the West, focusing on Islam AND the West and Islam IN the West. Based in Washington, D.C., ACMCU has played a significant role informing and educating not only about Islam and Muslims but also, since the late 1990s, about the emergence and impact of Islamophobia. Faculty have published books and articles, participated in conferences nationally and internationally, and been visible in media and social media. ACMCU has convened major international conferences on Islamophobia, which resulted most recently in Islamophobia and the Challenge of Pluralism in the 21st Century (Oxford University Press 2011).
What is Islamophobia?
Islamophobia Defined : Islamophobia is prejudice towards or discrimination against Muslims due to their religion, or perceived religious, national, or ethnic identity associated with Islam. Like anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia, Islamophobia describes mentalities and actions that demean an entire class of people. Jews, African-Americans, and other populations throughout history have faced prejudice and discrimination. Islamophobia is simply another reincarnation of this unfortunate trend of bigotry. What Islamophobia Isn't : Rational criticism of Islam or Muslims based on factual evidence is not intrinsically Islamophobia, just as criticism of the tenets or followers of other religions or ethnic groups does not necessarily indicate bigotry or prejudice. Two Michigan residents attended a BRIDGES meeting hosted by the Detroit office of the FBI recently that left them stunned by the level of Islamist infiltration at the Bureau.
BRIDGES is a quarterly FBI outreach program that stands for Building Respect in Diverse Groups to Enhance Sensitivity, whereby the FBI hosts workshops for law enforcement and various immigrant communities. They’ve been held in Boston, Detroit, Houston and Minneapolis-St. Paul and some city police departments host similar meetings on their own, without the FBI in attendance.
According to the FBI website, BRIDGES “brings together members of diverse communities and state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies to discuss issues and concerns within their communities.”
In southeastern Michigan, those diverse communities include an array of Islamic migrant enclaves, both Shia and Sunni, as well as Coptic, Chaldean and Assyrian Christians forced to flee their Middle Eastern homelands by the Islamic State and other jihadist groups.
The outreaches can sometimes go to bizarre lengths to demonstrate the FBI’s respect for Islam.
In St. Paul, for example, the FBI boasted in its Oct. 7, 2014 edition of the Law Enforcement Bulletin that the local police department “hosted its first halal cookout” with the Somali Muslim community.
The Jan. 10 BRIDGES meeting in Michigan serves as a fresh reminder of how the FBI has made a concerted effort to divert the eyes of law enforcement away from Muslim communities as potential breeding grounds for terror and refocus attention on “Islamophobic” American citizens.
The meeting, held at the Troy Police and Fire Training Center in Oakland County, an affluent suburb of Detroit, was described as “painful to watch” by two guests who attended.
Dick Manasseri, an activist with Secure Michigan and a resident of Oakland County, gained entry to the meeting by way of a guest invitation from the American Middle Eastern Christian Congress, a regular attendee. But he said he heard nothing about the plight of persecuted Middle Eastern Christians now living in Oakland County.
Instead, almost the entire hour-and-a-half meeting was spent focusing on Islamic religious and cultural practices and trying to debunk any derogatory information police officers may have received about Islamic ideology.
The FBI’s point person for this task was Bushra Alawie, a young female Muslim wearing a full head covering, or hijab. Alawie served in the Army National Guard and upon leaving the Guard in September 2016 the FBI hired her to be its “community outreach specialist” in Detroit.
The mother of four spoke confidently and without any trace of an accent during her presentation on Islamic “cultural education.”
“I get that initial look like, ‘is that really Bushra’ because of my visibly Muslim attire,” she told Detroit’s WXYZ-TV in 2016. “Immediately those rumors are dispelled and it’s business as usual.”

Free Speech or Hate Speech? Britain Bans U.S. Anti-Muslim Bloggers

LONDON — A British decision to bar a visit by two prominent American anti-Islam activists has prompted righteous indignation from the targets of the ban as well as a more measured debate about the limits of free speech.
Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, right-wing bloggers and co-founders of Stop Islamization of America, on Wednesday received letters from Theresa May, Britain’s home secretary responsible for interior affairs, telling them that their presence would “not be conducive to the public good.”
The pair had been due to address a rally on Saturday of the far-right English Defense League (E.D.L.) in the London suburb of Woolwich, whereLee Rigby, a British soldier, was killed in a vicious daylight attack on May 22.
Their association with the E.D.L. stems from the British group’s pastsupport for their campaign against the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque,” a planned mosque and community center near the site of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.
The decision to keep them out was based on the likelihood they would use their visit to repeat what were regarded as their unacceptable and provocative statements about Muslims that might foment violence.
Ms. Geller, a self-styled human rights activist, wrote on her blog, Atlas Shrugged, that her only crime was her “principled dedication to freedom.”
Mr. Spencer, who runs the Jihad Watch Web site, said the British decision amounted to a ban on those who “oppose jihad violence and Islamic supremacism.”
Ms. May took her decision in the context of a reported increase in attackson mosques and other Islamic centers since Drummer Rigby’s murder, for which two Muslims have been charged and which the E.D.L. is accused of exploiting in order to fuel anti-Islamic sentiment.
News of the ban coincided with reports that a mosque in the English town of Redditch was broken into and daubed with Swastikas, racist slogans and the letters “EDL.”
As Ms. Geller proclaimed that Britain had killed the Magna Carta, a government spokesman was quoted by the BBC as saying, “We condemn all those whose behaviors and views run counter to our shared values and will not stand for extremism in any form.”
The ban followed a campaign by Britain’s anti-fascist Hope Not Hate movement against allowing the pair into the country.
Matthew Collins, a researcher with the organization, welcomed the decision and said, “They only wanted to come here and help the E.D.L. stir up more trouble. Britain doesn’t need more hate even just for a few days.”
Keith Vaz, an opposition Labour Party legislator, also welcomed Ms. May’s decision, saying, “The U.K. should never become a stage for inflammatory speakers who promote hate.”
However, James Bloodworth, a left-wing British commentator, warned of the risk of turning Ms. Geller and Mr. Spencer into “free speech martyrs.”
Writing before the ban was announced, he said it would be counterproductive.
“These people already self-pityingly style themselves as a silent majority whose opinions are repressed by the state,” he wrote at the Left Foot Forward Web site. “Do we really want to provide them with such easy ammunition to throw back at us?”
“Banning them for what they might say is also dangerous territory,” he wrote. “Free speech within the law should be paramount.”
Ben Cohen, a British contributor to the American magazine Commentary, said the ban reflected double standards on the part of a country that had put up with the presence of Islamic extremists.
“One does not have to an admirer of Geller and Spencer — to my mind, their views are terrifyingly shrill and bigoted — in order to consider this decision outrageous,” he wrote.
“Banning Geller and Spencer will not mollify those British Muslims already on the path to self-radicalization,” Mr. Cohen wrote. “Nor is it likely to end the disturbing spate of attacks on mosques in the wake of Lee Rigby’s killing.”
The main result of the ban was to make British democracy look weak and spiteful at precisely the time it needed to look strong and confident, he concluded.

OIC calls for ban on attacks on religious symbols

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called for the adoption of international laws to criminalize all forms of attacks against Islam and other religions.
On Friday, OIC foreign ministers issued a joint statement after a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, calling on governments around the world "to take all appropriate measures, including necessary legislation against these acts that lead to incitement to hatred, discrimination and violence.”
The foreign ministers of the 57-nation bloc issued the statement in response to a blasphemous movie produced in the United States and a French magazine’s publication of cartoons that insult Islam and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
They condemned "intolerance, discrimination, profiling, negative stereotyping, stigmatization, religious hatred and violence against Muslims, as well as denigration of their religion" caused by the blasphemous materials.
"These Islamophobic acts stand in violation of the freedom of religion and belief, guaranteed by international human rights instruments, and have deeply offended" Muslims across the world, the statement added.
"We acknowledge the importance of freedom of expression, but at the same time stress the need to ensure that this freedom should be exercised by all with responsibility and in accordance with the relevant international human rights laws."
The OIC ministers called for "global awareness about the dangerous implications of incitement to religious hatred, discrimination and violence."
Anti-US demonstrations, which began on September 11 over the blasphemous movie, continued on Friday, with protesters chanting slogans against Washington, marching on US embassies, and torching US flags in several Asian cities.
Muslims in Iran, Turkey, Sudan, Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Thailand, Iraq, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, Nigeria, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Australia, Britain, the United States, France, Belgium, and several other countries have held many demonstrations to condemn the blasphemous movie over the past weeks. Protests were also held in Kashmir and the Gaza Strip.

Petraeus has a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy from which he graduated in 1974 as a distinguished cadet (top 5% of his class). He was the General George C.
