AND THE THIRD ANGEL FOLLOWED THEM, SAYING WITH A LOUD VOICE, IF ANY MAN WORSHIP THE BEAST AND HIS IMAGE, AND RECEIVE HIS MARK IN HIS FOREHEAD, OR IN HIS HAND. *** REVELATION 14:9

On the “March to Death”
The world, who act as though there were no God, absorbed in selfish pursuits, will soon experience sudden destruction, and shall not escape. Many continue in the careless gratification of self until they become so disgusted with life that they kill themselves. Dancing and carousing, drinking and smoking, indulging their animal passions, they go as an ox to the slaughter. Satan is working with all his art and enchantments to keep men marching blindly onward until the Lord arises out of His place to punish the inhabitants of earth for their iniquities, when the earth shall disclose her blood and no more cover her slain. The whole world appears to be in the march to death.—Manuscript 139, 1903.

In the Roman Catholic Church, it was called the “Francis effect,” a feeling that the arrival of the more inclusive Pope Francis in 2013 would invigorate the faith and get people back in the pews.
On Monday, Francis’ passing at the age of 88 led to an effect of a different kind: a surge in viewership for Conclave, director Edward Berger’s Oscar-winning film about what happens in the Vatican when church leaders are locked in a room—or, well, the Sistine Chapel—to decide who will be the next pope.
Streaming viewership for Conclave increased 283 percent after Pope Francis’ death, jumping from 1.8 million minutes watched on April 20 to 6.9 million minutes watched on Monday, according to data from analytics firm Luminate. Netflix’s The Two Popes, meanwhile, saw a 417 percent increase in viewership over that same period, jumping from 290,000 minutes to 1.5 million minutes.
In some ways, these numbers are to be expected. Conclave’s arrival last year and eight Oscar nominations (it won for Best Adapted Screenplay) had already made it a popular film. The fact that the Vatican is about to start a real-life conclave in just a few days only increases the attention on the film. The Two Popes, meanwhile, is about Pope Francis himself, and the relationship he had with his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI.
While the numbers are impressive, Luminate has seen similar boosts after other significant news events, according to spokesperson Jimmy Harney. When presidential candidate Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his running mate during the Republican National Convention last year, viewership for Netflix’s Hillbilly Elegy, based on Vance’s memoir, jumped 1,180 percent, according to Luminate. When news came out that Vice President Kamala Harris would likely be the Democrats’ candidate for president, US viewership for HBO’s Veep increased 353 percent.
Theoretically, Conclave’s viewership numbers could climb even higher in the coming days. On Monday, thanks to one of the many cumbersome deals that dictate the modern streaming landscape, viewers needed to rent or buy the movie in order to watch it. It cost between $6 and $20 on Amazon Prime Video. Early Tuesday, the movie became available to stream for Prime members.
Following Pope Francis’ death—an announcement that sent Catholics around the world into mourning—several news outlets (including this one) pointed to Conclave’s timeliness. The film, about a series of high-profile cardinals and their efforts to become the next pontiff, is a highly dramatized, and drama-filled, version of what the secretive conclave process looks like.
Francis’ funeral will be held in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on Saturday. Cardinals from around the world are headed to Italy to attend. After which, they will take part in the conclave, a name that’s derived from the Latin “with key,” meaning they will be locked in the historic church while they deliberate. No outside contact is permitted during the process; no phones, televisions, newspapers, or messages are allowed. Members of the College of Cardinals, the church’s most senior clergy, under the age of 80 get a vote, so about 135 of the 250-member body will be involved in the choosing.
According to Luminate data, other pope-centric films like Netflix’s Pope Francis biographic series Call Me Francis, haven’t seen the same huge spikes—yet. Maybe viewers just need to get back in the habit of watching Catholic content.

INTRODUCTION
This is a book about the influence of the Roman Catholic institution over Hollywood during its so-called “Golden Age”, then the waning of that influence, and the frequently open hostility towards Roman Catholicism, in the post-“Golden Age” period. The purpose of this book is to provide evidence of the way in which the Roman Catholic institution pursues its never-ending objective of conquering the world, in particular what could be called the “Protestant world”, by seeking to harness and make use of the most powerful entertainment medium the world has ever known: the movie industry.
This is a battlefield which almost no one recognises as such. The Papacy works through politics; through religion; through international finance; and many other channels to achieve its objective. But Hollywood? Moviegoers have no idea, as they sit munching their popcorn and viewing the films they love so much, that they are being deliberately indoctrinated, subtly, slowly, via the very movies they naively think they are watching solely for entertainment. And this indoctrination is virtually as old as Hollywood itself. Their beliefs, morals, worldviews, are all being shifted, changed, altered; and this is being done gradually, film by film, year by year, decade by decade, without them being aware of it. The morality and religious thought of the western world is nothing like it was prior to the advent of the movies. The harm that has been done, and is being done continuously, by the movie industry can never be fully calculated. But it is beyond all doubt that the movies have played one of the greatest roles of all in the destruction of the morals of the West, and the destruction of the Protestantism of the West as well.

Christian author and filmmaker DeVon Franklin announced that he's struck a deal with CBS where he plans to “create new opportunities for people of faith and people of color.”
Franklin, president and CEO of the Franklin Entertainment production company, made the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday.
“Thanks for all the thanks and congrats! I’m beyond excited to expand into TV with CBS Studios!” he wrote. “I’m excited to create new opportunities for people of faith and people of color! I believe entertainment is one of the most powerful mediums in the world and we can use it to help shape hearts and minds for the better. Now when you see the announcement of a deal, it’s the beginning of something, not the end. So now the real works begins, so please keep your prayers going up (I need them!) and I commit to doing my best to bring you the best shows I possibly can!”
Though the CBS deal marks Franklin’s first foray into television, his production company also has a multi-year first-look film deal with Paramount Pictures and a second-look deal with Netflix, according to Deadline.

Saddleback Church on Sunday, Feb. 9, threw a huge bash at the church’s main campus in Lake Forest.
The event, which fell on the birthday of Kay Warren, wife of Pastor Rick Warren, celebrated the church’s 40 years in the community and those who had helped it grow.
Church officials expected between 25,000 to 30,000 parishioners from its 14 campuses across Southern California to come out. Special guests from Saddleback’s four international campuses were also invited.
Festivities included a Ferris wheel, a zip line and an opportunity to learn about the church’s history during a film screening.
Rick and Kay Warren selected the Saddleback Valley in 1980 to start their church with a plan of staying in one spot for 40 years. Rick Warren’s first Bible study was held on Jan. 26, 1980 and the first church service was held with 205 people in a classroom at Laguna Hills High School that Easter.
Warren, who has 8 million social media followers, has written eight books including “The Purpose Driven Life,” which has sold nearly 40 million copies in English, according to Publisher’s Weekly. In 2005, Time magazine named Warren one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World.”
In August 2018, Saddleback Church reached a milestone when it held its 50,000th baptism. It has launched three community PEACE Centers with food pantries and has a farm that produces 15,000 pounds of produce for church food pantries, serving 20,000 families a year.
For church officials and the Warrens, Sunday’s celebration was about celebrating the people who helped the church grow over the past 40 years and to inspire future generations.

Seventh-day Adventist presence and input were significant at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle on May 19, 2018, thanks to the work of arranger Mark De Lisser and soloist Paul Lee.
A Custom Arrangement of an Old Favorite
De Lisser, an Adventist musician from Great Britain, arranged the song ‘Stand By Me,’ sung by The Kingdom Gospel Choir during the ceremony. It is estimated that 1.9 billion people followed the ceremony on TV or online around the world.
Many experts and commentators agree that in the midst of the usual pomp and circumstance usually associated with these events, the May 19 ceremony had a rather significant spiritual tone. This was evident through the familiar hymns, Scriptural passages, a rousing address that contained the elements of salvation, and the gospel choir during the holy matrimony.
‘Stand by Me’ was chosen by the royal couple Harry and Meghan, De Lisser shared, because of the words that, for them, depicted commitment and faithfulness within marriage. With this honorable motive in mind, De Lisser rearranged the original version to reflect the emphasis on staying beside your loved one. The idea was to focus on the fulfillment of marital vows, which reflect ‘standing by’ “from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.”
For De Lisser, it was about getting this message of commitment and permanence across to all people within a marriage relationship today, irrespective of culture, faith, or belief. It was an emphasis achieved in light of the popularity it has galvanized with increasing downloads on Spotify and other social music platforms. Also, it has sparked discussions and topical debates, bringing marriage back to the forefront.
An Unexpected Role
Assistant to the South England Conference (SEC) president Paul Lee, singing the lead role in the song, was a recognizable face on television among the Adventist population. Among the numerous TV and radio interviews that followed, Lee shared with British Union Conference (BUC) Newshow he had sung with The Kingdom Gospel Choir several years ago and was asked to assist the choir for this performance. The lead role was reserved for a well-known singer. When a contingent of the choir which included Lee, however, met with Harry and Meghan, a practice performance in which Lee temporarily stepped into the lead role led to the royal couple to request that Lee sing the lead on their wedding day.
Lee’s background in music spans over 40 years during which, on a professional basis, he has been singing and performing. His musical prowess was discovered at the young age of eighteen when he was recognized on television after creating a jingle for a children’s TV show.
The Adventist Church has for long taken note of Lee’s talent. Lee was eventually asked to serve as a regional Music director for several years, before taking on his current role as assistant to the Conference President.
Since the involvement of Lee and De Lisser, there has been increased activity on the regional church website and BUC News social media platforms, as viewers try to learn more, church leaders shared. “It has provided a unique opportunity for the public to get acquainted with other sections of the Seventh-day Adventist Church website, which explain the beliefs, mission, and community activities in the United Kingdom and around the world,” they said.

It’s ‘digital heroin’: How screens turn kids into psychotic junkies
By Dr. Nicholas Kardaras

Susan* bought her 6-year-old son John an iPad when he was in first grade. “I thought, ‘Why not let him get a jump on things?’ ” she told me during a therapy session. John’s school had begun using the devices with younger and younger grades — and his technology teacher had raved about their educational benefits — so Susan wanted to do what was best for her sandy-haired boy who loved reading and playing baseball.
She started letting John play different educational games on his iPad. Eventually, he discovered Minecraft, which the technology teacher assured her was “just like electronic Lego.” Remembering how much fun she had as a child building and playing with the interlocking plastic blocks, Susan let her son Minecraft his afternoons away.

Photo: AFP/Getty Images
At first, Susan was quite pleased. John seemed engaged in creative play as he explored the cube-world of the game. She did notice that the game wasn’t quite like the Legos that she remembered — after all, she didn’t have to kill animals and find rare minerals to survive and get to the next level with her beloved old game. But John did seem to really like playing and the school even had a Minecraft club, so how bad could it be?
Still, Susan couldn’t deny she was seeing changes in John. He started getting more and more focused on his game and losing interest in baseball and reading while refusing to do his chores. Some mornings he would wake up and tell her that he could see the cube shapes in his dreams.
